291 – What does it really mean to preach the Gospel to all creation? How do you feel when you read Jesus's command to his disciples to preach the gospel to every creature, to all creation, to all mankind?Does this get you excited to go share your faith with as many people as possible? Or does it make you cringe because you don't feel qualified to preach the gospel to even one or two people, let alone the whole world? And how would you be able to do that anyway? Or maybe you just shrug your shoulders because you decide this command of Jesus really only applied to his immediate disciples at the time, or to preachers and evangelists today. In this episode we're going to talk about the idea of preaching the gospel to all creation and how that applies to you.You have a ministryStart where you areWatch for opportunities to share your faithThe best way to preach the Gospel is to live your faith every day And pray for God's guidance on who you can tell about the kingdom of heavenGod has called you to let your light shine, to share your faith and your love for Christ with others. Sometimes it's just by living your faith, sometimes with words, but always it's with love for God and all God's children.Previous episodes mentioned:Episode 32: The Parable of the Unbaked CakeEpisode 288: Jesus's Death on the Cross Does not Save You from Your Sins; it's His Resurrection Show notes:Full transcript and Bible quotes: thebiblespeakstoyou.com/291Text me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster. Luke 7:48-50 Your SINS have been FORGIVEN.. Your FAITH has saved you; go in peace.
Jesus Tells Us …. Go In Peace, Your Sins are Forgiven Among the contribution of Pope Benedict 16th ‘s papacy was a rekindling in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Pope wrote several series / books on Jesus Christ. In one of the Pope's writings, he speaks of the Gospel. He explains when many read the Gospel, they look at it as ordinary words … as the Good News of Jesus Christ. In the Roman times, the words Good News meant that the Romans were victorious in battle and would share the Good News with Rome's king. St. Paul Defines The Term Good News Paul uses this term in the first reading. I bring you the Good News. For Paul, the Good News is that Jesus was nailed to The Cross, died and was Resurrected from the dead. This is the Good News for all mankind. The Resurrection of Jesus, and what it means, is why we have the Catholic Church. It is why we are Christians and worship the Lord at Mass. Why Does Paul Emphasize Our Lord's Death in Speaking of the Resurrection? Why does Paul emphasize the Resurrection after the death of Jesus? Indeed, why focus on death when discussing the Resurrection? Why? Because Our Lord's death was a brutal death . . . a death on The Cross. In Roman times, the cross was a symbol of power for the army … for Rome . . . for the secular world. Which means all the powers of the world have no power than that of God. The Resurrection shows us there is a more perfect world to come . . . the kingdom of God in Heaven! So, what is the lesson for us? We cannot live in this world as though this is the end. There is a resurrection and a new world to come; we will be in communion with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Gospel Story of the Anointing of Jesus Feet Today's Gospel is the story of Mary washing and anointing the feet of Jesus. Her life is perceived by the religious leader . . . she is a sinner. Jesus says she loves Him and He knows of her sins. He forgives her sins. In the Homily we hear more about this story. The Gospel today tells us God is merciful. The end of the Gospel . . . we hear the same words we hear within the sacrament of Reconciliation. Listen to this Meditation Media. Listen to: Jesus Tells Us …. Hey Everyone Thanks for tuning in! This is Day 3 of the YouVersion Devotional Favor. Today I read how in order to receive Favor from God we need first to be forgiven and in order to be forgiven we need to repent of our sins. The Bible says in Acts 3:19 Now Repent or Your Sins and Turn to God, so that your Sins will be wiped away. Jesus first was baptized and then led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. If Jesus was tempted by the devil than so will we, if you have fell victim to his temptation in your life and has caused you to sin then repent and turn to God today. Let Him forgive you and wash you and reconciliation and His Favor over your life as you walk in obedience to Him! When do white folks learn they're white? And how do they start to understand the scope of benefits that whiteness affords them? For Jessie Daniels, these uncomfortable questions are only the beginning.Jessie Daniels is a Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center, a research associate at the Oxford Internet Institute, and a professor of Sociology, Critical Social Psychology, and Africana Studies at Hunter College and The Graduate Center at CUNY. She is a world-renowned expert on Internet manifestations of racism, and her latest book Nice White Ladies: The Truth about White Supremacy, Our Role in It, and How We Can Help Dismantle It is available now from Seal Press.I imagine there are people who are going to read this book and throw it against the wall. And that's okay. But I would just encourage you to pick it up again, after you've thrown it against the wall the first time, and keep reading and sit with the discomfort and also ask yourself, why are you uncomfortable? I would argue that, to the extent that white people are uncomfortable hearing what I have to say, and white women in particular, is because we're holding on to whiteness in some way. We want that to not be a problem. We want that to mean that we're innocent, that we're beautiful, that we're better than other people. And it just doesn't mean that. Let's let go of that idea of whiteness. —Jessie Daniels, author, Nice White LadiesWe talk about:How feminism and white supremacy often coexist and how “gender-only feminism” always ignores raceWhite women's complicity in slavery and its lasting effectsThe “meme-ification” of the Karen archetype and the real dangers they poseThe path Jessie took to discovering her own whitenessHow to divest from the culture of whitenessThe power, and necessity, of sitting in discomfortPlus: in this week's You've Got This, Sara discusses how white women hold onto whiteness in the workplace, and the hidden meaning in terms like “professionalism,” "culture fit,” and "niceness.” For more on reckoning with whiteness in your workplace, head on over to https://www.activevoicehq.com/podcast.Links:Jessie Daniels' websiteNice White LadiesRacism ReviewThey Were Her Property by Stephanie Jones-RogersCuster Died for Your Sins by Vine Deloria, Jr.The Red Record by Ida B. For You, Jesus “humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” for Your Sins; What Are You Willing to Sacrifice for Him? MESSAGE SUMMARY: What have you, personally, sacrificed for the Gospel? Some have lost jobs, friendships, and family members because of their faith. Others, outside of the US, are losing their lives following the Gospel of Jesus the Christ. For example, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) reports that 6,000 Christians were killed between January and June 2018 in Nigeria. What have you sacrificed for the gospel? You cannot earn your Salvation by your actions like standing up for your faith – Salvation is provided to you by God though His Grace and your faith. Paul, in Philippians 2:8-11, posits the Gospel’s intended impact for followers of Jesus: “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.". However, there is a joy to you when you sacrifice something in your life for Jesus and the Gospel rather than always living for yourself. What have you sacrificed for the Gospel – Jesus gave His all for you? TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Addictions. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Self-Control. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). MESSAGE SUMMARY: We are told by the prophet Isiah that God is the awesome God who put it all into effect by creating everything. Therefore, you should not be surprised to learn, in Proverbs 1:7 and 3:13, that fear and respect for our “awesome God” is smart: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction . . . Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding," Also, our “awesome God”, In Isaiah 64:11-13, is disappointed in being snubbed by His chosen people, the Jews. However, Isiah describes how pleased God is with being welcomed by the Gentiles: “’But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.’ Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame.’". God takes care of His own. Those who wait upon {seek} the Lord will not be disappointed. Malachi presents, in Malachi 4:1-3, God’s support for those who fear His name and who will be spared as He punishes evildoers: “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the LORD of hosts.". TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be ashamed of the Gospel. I will not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (including me). (From Romans 1:16). MESSAGE SUMMARY: Even though we are followers of Jesus, we live in a world of hurting people; but we have the answer to their pain. God has blessed us so that we might be a blessing to others, and He has healed us so that we might provide God's healing powers to others. He has saved us so that we might be His ambassadors. While we have the answer, we keep it to ourselves in the way we live and by not speaking about Jesus to others. Before Jesus Ascension, He instructed us, in Matthew 28:16-20, that we must “Go” and tell others about the answer, which the Gospel provides, by “making Disciples”: “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”. Therefore, you must, as a follower of Jesus, communicate the Answer of Jesus and the Gospel to others through both your “talk” and the way that you “walk” in your life. Walk the walk and talk the talk to share Jesus with others. TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Evil Ways. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Goodness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). MESSAGE SUMMARY: The earthly byproducts of today’s Coronavirus include the real potentiality of severe illness and death which produce new levels of fear and uncertainty in lives today. Having yourself and the ones you love live with the constant material risk of death, from a source about which few were aware only ten weeks ago, can be a source of anxiety. Daily, the media depicts a world with increasing fear of earthly death while peace in our lives seems to be losing to the virus. You must constantly remember Jesus’ promise to you, in Matthew 6:34, that His followers should not be anxious: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”. However, you must be ready for the end of your earthly life and the return of the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, Paul writes to the Christians at the church in Thessalonica: “Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So, then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.”. Are you ready for your earthly death? Are you sure in your Salvation? If not, make yourself ready and keep ready! God’s Grace and the Gospel of Jesus prepare you for your earthly death while providing the means for your Eternal Life! TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Lust. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Perfect Provision. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Matthew 10:37-39; 1 Corinthians 9:12-23; James 3:13-18; Hebrews 4:15-16; Psalms 65:1-13. MESSAGE SUMMARY: Have you, in your life, become a follower of Jesus? The stories of the New Testament tell us that Jesus was no ordinary man. The Apostle John, in John 1:1-5, points out that Jesus, the Word, was the Creator of the Universe: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.". They tell us that Jesus had authority over nature, over creation, and over life itself. They tell us that Jesus was the life-giver that came to earth for us. In John 20:26-29, Jesus asked the Apostle Thomas a fundamental question that Jesus asks you – “Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me?’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”. Can you answer Jesus’ question about your belief in Him with a resounding: “My Lord and my God!”? If not, why not? TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, God is working His will in my life. (Philippians 2:13). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): John 1:1-18; Isaiah 7:2-14; Matthew 1:21-24; Psalms 67:1-7. MESSAGE SUMMARY: Pray and listen for the Lord, who always walks with the followers of Jesus; but He is there, as your counselor and advocate, in difficult circumstances. The Lord will speak to you, but sometimes it takes your listening AND fasting to hear Him. There are times when you need clarity, understanding, knowledge and insights from the Lord about the specific issues that you are facing. For example, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14): “Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life. Daniel’s prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God: “Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.’". TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Despair. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Joy. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Joel 1:13-16; Matthew 6:16; Daniel 9:3-7; Psalms 114:1-8. DEVOTIONAL VIDEO MESSAGE SUMMARY: Be Strong & Courageous (Commencement -- Reformed Episcopal Seminary; Oreland, PA) Courage is acting and speaking even though you are afraid. If you follow God’s call and seek His will to live and act in His Word, there is no reason to be overcome by fear because: “your God is with you wherever you go”. After God’s grace through Jesus, God is in you through His gift to you of the Holy Spirit. You get strong by exercising the “muscles” of your faith and commitment to God’s will and His word – often pushing your “commitment to God” beyond levels you thought possible. In Joshua 1:9, God commands you to be strong and courageous because He is with you: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”. When you obey God’s commands, He steps into your life with support for you to achieve His command. You have been equipped, as God told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 29:11-12, for God’s purposes in your life: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.". Spiritual strength comes to you from having God with you and in you. TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Fear. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Faithfulness. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). MESSAGE SUMMARY: Are You Filled with the Holy Spirit? (Highland Chapel; Chattanooga, TN) When we believe in Jesus the Christ as our Lord and Savior; accept God's Grace of Salvation; and follow Jesus, then God provides us with His incredible gift of the Holy Spirit. As we follow Jesus in our daily lives, it is difficult to be “filled with the Holy Spirit” as we are instructed in Ephesians 5:18: “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,". God Himself comes to us in His presence as the third part of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Paul tells us, in Ephesians 1:13, that when we become a follower of Jesus, we are “sealed with the Holy Spirit”. Paul, in Ephesians, tells us that we only have two choices in our life relationship with the Holy Spirit: 1) we either “grieve the Holy Spirit” or 2) we are “filled with the Holy Spirit” – these two options, regarding the Holy Spirit, mean that, as we live our lives, we are either “strong in the Lord” or “we are not strong in the Lord”. In Ephesians 4:30, Paul speaks of “grieving the Holy Spirit”: “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”. “Grieving the Holy Spirit” means that we hurt or wound God's expectations for us as Followers of Jesus, as we live our lives, by not being “filled with the Holy Spirit”. Most of Ephesians 4 and Ephesians 5 describe the binary positions of lives that “grieve the Holy Spirit” or are “filled with the Holy Spirit”. When we “grieve the Holy Spirit”, we limit the power of the Holy Spirit and our access to God through our personal relationship with Him. Therefore, anytime we sin we “grieve the Holy Spirit”. God, through the Holy Spirit, will make us aware of when we grieve Him: and we then have the opportunity for Confession and Repentance of our sin; therefore, we can continue to “be filled with the Holy Spirit” as God wishes and expects. Are you grieving the Holy Spirit or are you filled with the Holy Spirit? TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD.Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. (John 1:12f). “California Noir” is how the long-time roots rocker describes his new album, “Bobby Fuller Died for Your Sins.” The album is a return to the two guitar, bass and drums essence of rock and roll.
Vine Deloria, Jr. wrote in Custer Died for Your Sins“...law became a trap for the weary and a dangerous weapon in the hands of those that understood how to use it.” This concept drives my interest in law and public policy in Indian Country. Tribes need tribal members that understand how to use the law, argue the law, make laws, and influence the law. Laws, regulations and court cases greatly impact how we live our daily lives, especially in Indian Country. This episode provides insight into the “hot” topics in Indian law today. Bryan Newland (Bay Mills Ojibwe) and I discuss some key pending legal cases impacting Indian Country. Bryan previously shared his personal story on the podcast. You can listen to that here. “But I am not a lawyer and this sounds boring and/or intimidating to me. Why should I listen to a podcast about legal cases that don’t involve me or my community?” Because they do. And the concepts at issue in each case are not difficult to understand. I am not a lawyer, and Bryan does a great job describing these cases in a way that non-lawyers can understand and digest. The three cases we discuss are entirely different topics (tax, Indian Child Welfare Act, and sexual assault of a minor), but each impacts the sovereignty not only of those involved but of all tribes. Two of the cases discussed--if decided wrongly--can negatively impact the sovereignty of all tribes. Information about each of the cases is also provided below. This information all links to Turtle Talk, a blog of the Indigenous Law and Policy Center at Michigan State University. It tracks different court cases impacting Indian Country. It is a great resource to track legal developments impacting tribes. Dollar General v. Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians A.D. v. Washburn Seminole Tribe of Florida v. Marshall Stanburg Bryan and I also discuss other topics in this episode including: moving home after being away; where “home” really is; college football (Go Ducks!); healthy outlets; and more.
Matthew 9:1-7 The post Your Sins are Forgiven appeared first on Calvary Bible Church - Wrightsville, PA.
Today we are starting a brand new series called “JESUS IS______”. (Series explanation – We teach the principals found in the bible, in creative forms….) Jesus is______? (How would you finish that thought?) (Good man… Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, etc… teacher, a fable, mad at me, etc) (Jesus Video) No doubt that all of us have some concept of Jesus… BUT DOES HIS EXISTENCE HAVE ANY EFFECT ON OUR LIVES?! Transition: No matter how you would finish that statement… we want to invite you on a journey this month as we discover who JESUS IS! It's so much more than knowing about HIM… This message won't change your life. Church won't put your life in a new direction. BUT experiencing who JESUS really is… and HOW MUCH HE LOVES YOU… will change you forever! Transition: Today we celebrate the greatest truth about Jesus… He didn't just die for us… He defeated death for us! Message Title: Jesus is _____ ALIVE! On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? If we are honest… that's a lot of us. We are looking for life in all the wrong things! 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' ” 8 Then they remembered his words. 9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others… 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. Luke 24:1-12 (NIV) Maybe that's you today… You're wondering… “What does this all mean?” We know there HAS to be more to life than we are experiencing… THERE IS!! The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 (NLT) If you want all your questions answered… I can't help you. If you want an easy life… you won't find it. But if you want a NEW LIFE… A life of Freedom… JOY… HOPE… it's found when you DISCOVER JESUS! Transition: The fact that Jesus is alive is the greatest truth in history… Because anyone can die for you. His death expressed how much he loved us… “while we were still sinners…” The fact that He is alive proved that He was God… and that for Him NOTHING is impossible! Transition: SO today I want to walk you through 3 things that His death AND resurrection mean for us! 1. We have PEACE He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God. Romans 4:25 (NLT) Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand… Romans 5:1-2 (NLT) You see, because of our SIN (rebellion against His standard) we were enemies of God. (Not enemies because HE wanted nothing to do with us… BUT because we wanted nothing to do with him!) Whether you believe in God our not… there is no denying EVIL in this world… in all of us. (Babies – Bent toward sin (sinful nature) – Pictures of Eleanor There is a mark… a standard… and we constantly fall short of it. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Romans 3:23 (NLT) We can strive all we want… and a lot of us are! It's exhausting… (Debt) But WE HAVE PEACE… because of debt has been paid… our relationship reconciled! For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. Romans 5:10-11 (NLT) God isn't just willing to forgive us… He is passionate about it! The Cross / “IT IS FINISHED!” There is more to that statement than we realize… We need a greater view of God and a smaller view of sin. Jesus came to break the cycle of sin and condemnation and give us our future back. 2. We have a new INDENTITY The problem with being separation from God… is that our identity is only understood in the context of a relationship with our creator. Without Him…we're orphans… We're lost… We don't know who we are! Jesus going to the cross was God screaming, “I LOVE you and will do ANYTHING to reach you!” (I left my kid at church once… the feeling of losing your kid!) This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What's next, Papa?” God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what's coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him! Romans 8:15 (MSG) Your father… is searching for you. Calling you to come home. To the life He has always planned for you. You won't discover your identity in anything this world can offer… or anything you can achieve. 3. We have new LIFE (The video… “Why do you seek the LIVING among the DEAD?”) To be honest… this is what we are all after. (Always searching for “The Life”…but always coming up short.) Some of us today… the search is ending… We've found what we've been looking for! Jesus died for YOUR SINS… but He rose for YOUR LIFE You see, the culmination of the story is not the Crucifixion… It was the resurrection!! AND THE STORY ISN'T OVER… we are still living in the aftermath of it! Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God's anger, just like everyone else. Very bleak… but look at the next verse. BUT GOD… God intervenes… butts in… not because of our efforts… or because we bugged Him enough, but because HE LOVED US SO MUCH!! 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:1-10 (NLT) His love is SO deep and wide that in one moment of faith he can forgive a lifetime of sins… past, present and future. Jesus didn't die to establish a moral code of conduct… world peace… so we would go to church and read our bibles…so that we would behave… (And these are all good things!) Jesus didn't die to take you from BAD to GOOD, but to take you from DEATH to LIFE! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) Big Idea: Jesus died for us… to take our place… our punishment. He was buried to signify the death and burial of our sin… AND THEN he destroyed the power of death and sin… when HE rose to life! This is what Easter is all about. Challenge: Some of us today… if we are honest… are trying to find LIFE on our own. In our success… our ability… our addictions… And it's not working… we're lost. THAT is why Jesus did what He did… to show that WE can't… and that it's time to stop trying. HE DID IT! Only Jesus can rescue you. Only Jesus can bring you peace. Only Jesus can bring you to life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 (NLT) All of this… is free gift from God. Free. Grace. Salvation: God take control of my life… It's the easiest thing you will ever do, but I will cost you everything.
