This podcast is with local community, leader, and pastor, Houston Woodard. Houston is a stalwart in the Phoenix community, and his leader ship is second to none. The following podcast hits several different aspects that many of us are navigating right now in society. Although faith is a large part of many peoples' lives, There are many people who struggle with “church hurt”, hypocrites, and bad leadership within churches. We delve into that and much more in this podcast. Houston breaks down what to look for, and why it is imperative not to put your trust in man, or a ‘building' for that matter. We also discussed the impact of sports, and why it can be such a tremendous tool for change. Houston, at one time, oversaw parts of one of the most extensive sports ministries in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Houston also draws from his military experience, and shares a concept that is timeless. We also talk about church, the diversity in churches, and why church can feel lonely on Sundays. Today's youth are also discussed, and the way individuals experience God is not (and cannot) be the same as some old-school methods that many of us are used to! If you are looking for an authentic conversation About topics that really matter, you've come to the right place. Enjoy!
During this chapel, we discuss how one of the most coveted traits in sports (unity) is achieved. In the entire sporting cosmos, whether you are talking about winning a Super Bowl, NBA Finals, NCAA championships, etc., you would be hard-pressed to find a team who has not figured out the cheat-code to achieving unity. It is very difficult to achieve monumental tasks without having buy-in and unity from a large group of players, coaches, and supporting staff. In this chapel, the primary ingredients that comprise unity are broken down: understanding, empathy, and action. The players learn in a very hands-on way why “understanding” directly impacts levels of unity. We also discuss the importance of listening and spending time with others. Some of the highest paid professionals in the world or sales people, and and an unlikely trait seems to emerge time and time again when you study them closely. We also break down the “7-4-11 Rule”, and how we can use that in our everyday lives. We are also taught the importance of empathy, and what the Bible says about being empathetic. There's also an amazing example that highlights the effect of mirror neurons & soldiers (a very little known story that many people do not talk about). Ultimately the chapel ends with the importance of action, and how nothing matters (our knowledge, our words, etc.) if you do not accompany it with action!
When it comes to desirable qualities for athletes, strength is usually at the top of the list. In this classroom, some of Arizona Christian University‘s top athletes come together to learn and discuss "STRENGTH". We break down what strength is, how to secure and increase it, and what God wants us to do with our strength. Ironically, there are two sides to every coin. Strength is no different. We learn that to secure great levels of strength, you must also have a healthy understanding of both training and rest. What happens when we train correctly? When we train too frequently? and when we don't train hard enough? We also learn to understand the importance of rest, and what happens not only spiritually, but physically and mentally as well. This action-packed classroom puts “strength” into perspective, and ultimately finishes off with what God wants us to do with our strength!
In Part II of this podcast series, Josiah Igono talks to the ACU
In a recent devotional/chapel at Arizona Christian University (ACU), Josiah Igono shares about the power of Relentless Recovery with members of the Women's Vollyeball Team. Many athletes are burnt out! They have reached their end physically, emotionally, socially, and are in serious need of a reboot. When you look at the Biopsychosocial Model, as proposed by George Engel, oncd you addressed the respective areas, it is easy to visualize how to be restored after the rigors of competition & life. #Recovery #Athletes #Mindset #PeakPerformance #Inspiration #Motivation
Today's podcast is with none other than esteemed guest, Dr. Carl A. Blunt. Dr. Carl Blunt has a highly decorated background, and his words are guaranteed to challenge you. Hitting on several elements from Carthaginian wars, historical happenings in the United States, Africa, and abroad, you are sure to learn something that will provoke thinking, after you listen to his take on several issues. Professionally, Dr. Carl Blunt enjoyed a career in Banking and Finance spanning over 35 years, retiring as a Senior Vice President of Bank of America with responsibilities for builder and consumer mortgage lending for the Southwest region of the United States. After retiring, Carl established two entities, Consolidated Resource Partners, a "for profit" entity which provided multiple clients sales training, management recruitment, and seminars along with Arizona Veterans Supportive Services a "non-profit" organization that provided housing, meals and training for homeless veterans in the Metro Phoenix area. Dr. Blunt is also the past Chairman of the Board of the Omega Youth Leadership Academy and has successfully raised community awareness of available scholarships for those aspiring to pursue Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. He is a published author and lecturer, and a prevailing theme you will hear from him is: You cannot tell history from one perspective, but you must include all. History must be chronological, it must be accurate, yet it will always be interpreted by perspective. Born and raised in San Francisco CA, he earned his undergraduate degree from San Jose State, a Master's degree from San Francisco State and his Doctorate from Northern Arizona University. #HistoryEducation #DiversityMatters #ChallengeTheNarrative #USHistory #EmbraceDiversity #History #OneDropRule #America #SocialJustice #Equality #Education #BlackHistory #Inclusion
Godeyvio Castro is not just a dedicated educator in traditional martial arts, fitness, and boxing; he's a transformative guide for those looking to elevate their lives physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Born and raised in a tough urban setting, Godeyvio's life was shaped by adversity—from witnessing violence and drug abuse to becoming a teenage father at age 16 and later a single dad, his journey was far from easy. At the age of 21, a physical altercation resulted in a felony charge, subsequently expunged, that set him on an entrepreneurial path. He founded Awakening Warriors Institute, a sanctuary for unlocking human potential. Here, Godeyvio focuses on activating the WARRIOR Archetype in individuals, guiding them to enhance their spiritual gifts through astral projection, quantum physics, and esoteric wisdom. Beyond his practical teachings, Godeyvio is an academic with a Master's in Therapeutic Martial Arts from the American University of Holistic Healing. He is also yoga-certified and holds an elite level boxing coaching certification. His credentials underscore his commitment to being a well-rounded educator. Spiritual growth has always been the cornerstone of Godeyvio's life. His spiritual journey led him to train with Taoist Monks and explore the jungles of South America, where he further honed his martial arts skills and spiritual practices. One transformative teaching he received was in the meditation practice of Falun Gong. Godeyvio's global mission has taken him to four continents, where he has spoken to over 6,000 indigenous people, helping them integrate into modern society while honoring their spiritual roots. Closer to home, he offers self-defense classes for men, women, and children in Gilbert, AZ, aiming to elevate their quality of life and instill greater self-confidence. #blackbelt #commitment #dedication #nopainnogain #athletemotivation #athletemindset #inspiration

Perfectionism is a topic that is talked about often with high performers, but is gravely misunderstood. Can you strive to be perfect and still be a high-level performer? What happens when things aren't perfect? You would actually be surprised at some of the research that is out there on Perfectionism. In this podcast we look at both the positive and the paralyzing aspects of what happens when things don't turn out perfect. We not only look at how perfectionism can be a driver of performance, but how it can also be debilitating in nature when it is not channeled in the right direction. As an educator of 20 years, Jeffrey Birthwright, a.k.a. Birf, joins me on this thought-provoking podcast on a game-changing topic. Regardless of where you stand, Perfectionism is an important construct in the world of high performance, not only as an athlete and performer, but as a student and an educator. Join us for this insightful conversation, and don't forget to share! This particular episode was as organic as they come! Josiah & Derek hit on many issues that are prominent in the world of sports, some of which will leave you scratching your head. Many times, people say that sports are a microcosm of life. This podcast is no exception. By listening through, you will see how something as simple as a meal, a recruiting practice, or not having both parents at home can hit a nerve with so many people. The episode concludes with a word of encouragement that hopefully puts you in a better place. Also, be sure to download your free copy of the Tactical Field Manual as well. Here are a list of some of the topics that were hit on in today's episode: *Who Takes The PAC 12 this year? *Deion & Some Controversy *Are Stereotypes Gone In Sports? *The Importance Of Fathers *God's Plan > ________ *Jalen Gets Paid *Why Teams Can Never Overpay Players *Rings vs. Cheese *Pay For Own Lunch Bro… *Don't Just Do Something, Stand There FREE Downlad: Tactical Field Manual

In this podcast we talk about the importance of reflection and also the following: *Handling blowouts *The value of evaluating defeat *How and why your brain is always recording *Retrieval problems versus memory problems *The two ingredients for etching a memory *How memory is actually distributed through your brain *What happens every time you go back and retrieve a memory And much more. After taking a break from Superbowl, Derek and Josiah get back after it again. This conversation is hilarious, and you can tell that you can't go too long without speaking because there's no time for anything else! Part II: Burn The Tape (Coming Soon) Many athletes think that after a horrible or embarrassing performance that they need to “flush” the game and move onto the next chapter. We are going to discuss why this is one of the worst things that you can do. The human brain does a tremendous job in recording information (even when we don't want it to). Every time you go back and retrieve a memory, you actually re-insert and reconsolidate it again for long-term use....and this is a great thing! Stay tuned for the next episode. Get your free e-book here: Tactical Field Manual

As we get closer to the end of the NFL season, we break down what happened in the Divisional Round, and make predictions for the respective Championship games. There is spirited debate on some of the top headlines, and ends with a conversation on Circumstance and Identity. The playoffs are where many high performers experience pressure, and may sometimes be judged unfairly. Even though sports is big business, if you are not looking at the appropriate mirrors, the competition will eat you alive. There is only ONE mirror in which any high performing athlete should be looking at. Join Josiah and Derek as they break down the final teams, and leave with an inspirational message that can apply to all of us.
As the NFL playoffs whittle down to 8 teams, Josiah and Derek talk about the remaining group, and they also talk about resilience. Many people get knocked down in life. In fact, we ALL get knocked down in life. And whether or not we get back up and become as good or better than we were before is our choice. Whether you are an NFL coach, a parent, or just someone who is trying to earn an honest living, you are going to face a setback at some point. It will ultimately be your choice how you handle it.

On Monday, January 2, 2022, the sports world saw something that was rare. Many sports aficionados, analysts, fans, and athletes attest that they had never seen anything like it. After a routine tackle, Buffalo Bill Safety, Damar Hamlin, tackled Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals. After the tackle, Hamlin is seen getting up to his feet and immediately collapsing back down. After being resuscitated twice, he was administered into care. At the time of his podcast, Damar Hamlin was still in critical condition. Josiah and Derek tackle this tough topic and shine light on specific areas for discussion. #Damar #DamarHamlinStrong #TeeHigginsToo

In this episode, Josiah puts a bow on the Mastery conversation: The main question he hits on is: *How can I achieve mastery quicker? Although there are many paths to success, achieving mastery usually comes down to 2 things. Josiah also gets into the key ingredient of mastery, and some of the prerequisites before you get to this highly desired place. Join us for this conversation, and be challenged to look at mastery in a whole new light.
Today I wanted to share with you the 5 Levels of Performance. Not everybody attacks their craft the same way. When you look at this list, I want you to determine where you think you are, and what you're going to do about it. Level 1: “I'm happy to be here”. Wide-eyed and bushy tailed; you love the gear, the food, and the amenities. You're just happy you made it to the Show, the League, the Big Time. Level 2: “I just want to play”. Being here is not enough. You want to be on the field, the court, in the arena competition. Level 3: “I don't want to lose my spot.” Self-explanatory. You've done the work, and you're trying to hold onto your position. Come hell or high water, you are going to hold on tight, not giving it up to a younger player, a transfer, a free agent, or any other competitor. Level 4: “I'm going to show you I'm the best.” For many, this is the pinnacle of Performance. This is where you are able to demonstrate on a regular basis just how good you are, as the world takes note. Level 5: “I know that I have been blessed with God-given talent, and I am going to use that talent to make God smile, and bless others” Read Full Article Here

Many people aspire to become a Master of their craft. With that, comes many questions: *Do I really need 10,000 hours to become a master? *What about child prodigies? *At what point do you know that you are a master? *How can I achieve mastery quicker? In this two-part series, we are going to talk about some of the responsibilities and attributes of mastery, understand how someone is progressing into mastery, and some of the science behind how people learn. Deep down, we all have a subconscious comfort with the pilot who has 10 years experience compared to the pilot who's only been on the job for 10 days. We trust surgeons who come highly recommended, credentialed, with experience over a younger counterpart who is just starting their career. Join us for this conversation on mastery, and be challenged to look at this concept in a whole new light.
Many people use terms loosely, and in doing so we lose the actual definitions. This is a problem. Although we speak about several topics in this podcast, three main areas of emphasis are toughness, spirituality, and burnout. These terms are no exception when it comes to vanilla definitions. Can we truly become tougher (mentally, physically, and even spiritually???) Is your faith or your spiritual journey important in your daily life? What is the opposite of burnout? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? The answers in this podcast may truly shock you; they may even make you uncomfortable. This is a different podcast than what we usually do, but here I am interviewed by Chris Twumasi, an aspiring mental health professional. The conversation is action- packed, and it is one that is much needed in the noisy world in which we live. Enjoy.
What do you do with the words? As an athlete, you have likely heard harsh criticism from fans, enemies, and even family members. Some of you may have even had a coach tell you that you would never make it, or that you sucked, and that you should stick with ___fill in the blank___. Many of us have internalized these words and have used it to fuel great careers. In like fashion, many of us have held onto words that have destroyed dreams, and sink our sense of worth. This conversation hits deep, as we will look at what happens when we choose what to do with the words…
Often times in the world of high-performance, you'll run into people with big personalities. Although there is nothing wrong with big personalities, sometimes these big personalities can be intimidating; even worse, they use intimidation to manipulate people and situations. In this show, we hit on current events, and what to do when you run into somebody who is an INTIMIDATOR (some people call them bullies… Lol).
When is it OK to rest? Do the Players know what they are getting into before they strap on the pads? What is the most dangerous sport? We get into ALL of this and then some in today's show. You can't fully justify any controversial side without looking at the OTHER side. Tua Tagovailoa's injury is sure to ratchet up scrutiny concerning certain processes; hoplely this will be a galvanizing moment in the National Football League. Join us as we try to solve the world's problems in a little over 20 minutes....
Victor Makinde is a coach and entrepreneur. He is our special guest today. As a family friend, Josiah has known Victor since childhood. The conversation is both candid and insightful. One of the more nostalgic podcasts for me is with today's guest, Richard Lucero. We were teammates back in 2002 at Northern Arizona University, and we both grew up on the South Side. Rich has an extensive background with sports, specifically the game of football. He was fortunate enough to play the game he loved through college, and a few years professionally. Football has allowed him to live across the country, meet others, and travel to places he would have never imagined. Rich played collegiate football with the University of Umass Amherst, and also at Northern Arizona University. He played the position of Quarterback, and did so for nearly 20 years. He has his Masters in Leadership from Grand Canyon University. For the past 15 years, he has been employed at GCU, and has held many leadership titles. We hit on: *How no one gives you ANYTHING *Why YOUR mindset is the only one that matters *A tribute to his father *How you “can” teach HEART *Richard's definition of “the grind” *Why the PATHWAY changes, but the GOAL does not *Jake Plummer's advice to a young Richard Lucero *The importance of good coaches *Growing up in South Phoenix *How a coach told him he would NEVER play Quarterback (at age 8) *Why nepotism is incredibly hard to beat *The various things you battle as an athlete *AND MUCH MORE You can find and follow Rich on IG as: @rlnau11 For More Inspiration & Life Changing Messages SUBSCRIBE ►►►► https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC36Wt2UBiPnlTQZdXtjZamg?sub_confirmation=1 FaceBook → https://www.facebook.com/AllThingsPerformance1 Twitter → https://twitter.com/JosiahIgono Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/allthingsperformancellc LinkedIn → https://www.linkedin.com/in/josiah-igono-phd-cscs-926bb2172 All Things Performance → https://www.atplions.com Get My Books: https://www.amazon.com/Your-Daddy-Tough-Josiah-Igono/dp/0578987287 https://www.scribd.com/book/542180313/Unconventional-Leadership Download Our Podcast: iTunes → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-things-performance #JosiahIgono #RichLucero #AllThingsPerformance #ATPerformancellc #YouAreNecessary #consulting, #development, #mentalhealth #mentalcoaching #mentaltoughness #mentalskills #performancepsychology If you enjoy the content, and find it valuable, please like, comment and share!

By far, one of my favorite podcasts thus far. Jeffrey Birthwright aka “Birf” joins Derek and I on today's show. We were all teammates back in 2002 at Northern Arizona University. When you get 3 former teammates together to talk about our kids, sports, and current events, it gets intense. Birf is one of the most authentic people you will ever meet. He is hilarious and zeal for helping people shines through. Sports has a way of connecting people for life. If you love sports, love your teammates, and love talking about things that matter, this podcast is for you. We hit on: *Birf's take on Dave Chappelle *Why letting our kids fall on their face is a good thing *Derek on the best thing his dad ever did for him *How childhood affects our current realities *Why true friendship will ‘cost' you *Why ‘speed bumps' are a good thing *A quick story on old school vs. new school coaches and teachers *Why friends are for a reason, season & lifetime…know the difference *AND MUCH MORE You can find and follow Birf on IG as: @dr_jeff_q For More Inspiration & Life Changing Messages SUBSCRIBE ►►►► https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC36Wt2UBiPnlTQZdXtjZamg?sub_confirmation=1 FaceBook → https://www.facebook.com/AllThingsPerformance1 Twitter → https://twitter.com/JosiahIgono Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/allthingsperformancellc LinkedIn → https://www.linkedin.com/in/josiah-igono-phd-cscs-926bb2172 All Things Performance → https://www.atplions.com Get My Books: https://www.amazon.com/Your-Daddy-Tough-Josiah-Igono/dp/0578987287 https://www.scribd.com/book/542180313/Unconventional-Leadership Download Our Podcast: iTunes → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-things-performance #JosiahIgono #DerekDevine # JeffreyBirthwright #AllThingsPerformance #ATPerformancellc #YouAreNecessary #consulting, #development, #mentalhealth #mentalcoaching #mentaltoughness #mentalskills #performancepsychology If you enjoy the content, and find it valuable, please like, comment and share!

Former Major Leaguer turned Mental Health advocate, Drew Robinson, joins us today on the podcast. It is heavy. It is inspiring. It is real. Drew's well documented failed suicide attempt has been the subject of discussion around ENDING THE STIGMA as it relates to mental health. Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV, Drew signed his first professional player contract with the Texas Rangers out of high school and went on to play parts of 12 seasons with Rangers, Cardinals and Giants organizations while spending parts of 3 seasons at the major league level with the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals. In February of 2020, he and ESPN released an E60 documentary on his survived suicide attempt in hopes to create awareness on mental health and end the stigma surrounding it. After losing his right eye in his attempt and eventually completing a comeback to professional baseball, Drew retired after the 2021 season and will be entering his first year under the baseball operations side of the San Francisco Giants organization assisting Dr. Shana Alexander and Dr. Emily Cheatum in the mental health & wellness department. He will be in charge of creating a Peer Support Program throughout the organization to help players & staff feel more comfortable starting their own conversations regarding their mental and emotional wellbeing. Here are a few things we peel back: *The Biggest Lie In Sports *Being Perfect in a Non-Perfect Way *Worthiness, Unworthiness & Perfectionism *The Vicious Cycle Of Relying on Validation *How a “NEXT” Mentality is Unhealthier Than You Think *Spectrums & Sweet Spots *The Power of Zooming Out *The Power of Reflection *Sports As An Escape: The Good & The Bad *Why You Can't Run Forever *Benching 300lbs vs. Seeing a Therapist *Trauma, Confrontation & Freedom *Drew's 3 Pivotal Moments *The Battle of Being Misunderstood *The First Step of Freedom *What a True Support System Looks Like *The Most Important Question You Can Ask A Teammate *Connection As Medicine *AND MUCH MORE You can find and follow Drew on all major Social Media sites as: @Drewrobbb on Twitter & Instagram For More Inspiration & Life Changing Messages SUBSCRIBE ►►►► https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC36Wt2UBiPnlTQZdXtjZamg?sub_confirmation=1 FaceBook → https://www.facebook.com/AllThingsPerformance1 Twitter → https://twitter.com/JosiahIgono Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/allthingsperformancellc LinkedIn → https://www.linkedin.com/in/josiah-igono-phd-cscs-926bb2172 All Things Performance → https://www.atplions.com Get My Books: https://www.amazon.com/Your-Daddy-Tough-Josiah-Igono/dp/0578987287 https://www.scribd.com/book/542180313/Unconventional-Leadership Download Our Podcast: iTunes → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-things-performance #JosiahIgono #DerekDevine #Drew Robinson #AllThingsPerformance #ATPerformancellc #YouAreNecessary #consulting, #development, #mentalhealth #mentalcoaching #mentaltoughness #mentalskills #performancepsychology If you enjoy the content, and find it valuable, please like, comment and share!
