The Heart of Your Home {With Jules Blane Davis} So many of the ways we live and love begin in our kitchens. And, how we were or weren't nourished in our childhood kitchens shapes every aspect of our lives today. Our kitchens can become a place to nourish, gather, connect, heal and most of all, share and create the ongoing stories of our lives. It is in the kitchen where we can also find our way home to our true selves. How we empathize is a deeper look into our capacity to understand and relate to what another person is experiencing. When talking with my friend Wendy De Rosa on this months episode of SATIATE, I learned some clear distinctions between being overly empathic and being an empowered empath. The former, feeling overly sensitive, disconnected from our sense of self, and most often totally drained. The ladder, feeling what is true and reclaiming our intuitive power in doing so. Similarly, when our empathic nature (especially as women) becomes overly empathic and out of balance, it can deeply effect our relationship with food. While empathy is a natural human response –– feeling the energy around us and connecting with another's emotions –– taking on these emotions as our own (feeling it as if it is happening to us) can be where problems arise.Becoming an empowered empath is where we transform our empathic nature to become our greatest superpower.
As many of you know, over the past many months, I have been cooking up my next book. If you have dabbled in the book writing process, you might know that there are many hoops to jump through –– creating clarity, a book proposal, sample chapters, finding an agent, platform growth, submissions, and hopefully a wonderful editor and publisher to publish the final book. (Plus, plenty of book launch strategies and promotions once the book comes out!) Book writing is a process that for me, has required a lot of patience, resiliency, tons of growth and transformation, and especially steadfastness in keeping on with the vision and process, even if it feels hard. On my journey, there have been both many obstacles to overcome and many milestones to celebrate –– some big and some small. If you are curious about my book story, I have a new SATIATE episode for you. Join me as I speak with my very own book coach, Joelle Hann (AKA The Brooklyn Book Doctor), all about my book journey.

For much of my life, people pleasing kept me from speaking my authentic voice, carving out time to care for myself, and living my authentic truth and life. I know I am not alone. When our mental health suffers it takes a toll on our bodies –– specifically on our adrenal health. When our bodies continue to perceive an imminent threat, we release stress hormones that can lead to burn out, brain fog, extreme fatigue, sugar cravings, overwhelm, restlessness, low energy, and metabolic sluggishness. It is no surprise, as of late, that these symptoms have worsened far and wide across our population. If you are experiencing mental health challenges and/or burn out, heightened stress, or any symptoms listed above, be sure to listen to this weeks brand new SATIATE episode: "On Healing Adrenal Fatigue" with Dr. Erin Kinney. Listen and Hear: *What causes adrenal fatigue *How to recognize adrenal fatigue in your own body and life *How to identify the internal/external factors contributing to adrenal fatigue *The relationship between cortisol and melatonin and how it plays out in your sleep quality, energy, inflammation, focus, cravings, and healing *Nourishment principles (that go beyond food) to consider in your healing journey *Advice on how to get enough rest and reset your circadian rhythm Now is the time to amplify your self-care, to deepen the connection and community in your life, and to remember to ask for support when you need it. Listening to each vulnerable share underscored the human condition in how WE get in our own way— through our internal dialogue, our habitual patterns, our self-aggressive thoughts, our limiting beliefs, and our fears. It is clear that upgrading our relationship to ourselves (our thoughts about ourselves, how we talk to ourselves, and how we unconditionally love ourselves) is where we can reclaim our greatest power. The way we narrate our lives shapes what our lives become. When we turn this conversation to food and body, most of us know how complex this can get. What we do with food is what we do with life –– there is no separation. In honor of valentines weekend and getting out of our own way, I have a very special episode of SATIATE for you. [PODCAST] Practicing Unconditional Self-Love ~ With Michelle Hannah Listen and Hear: *A truer (and impactful) definition of unconditional self-love *How to use the 4 B's (breakup; breakdown; breakthrough; breakout) on your self-love journey *What are the Self Vows and how to take them *How to make your self-care an expression of unconditional self-love Find out more about Michelle Hannah: https://www.michellerhannah.com/ Check out her two books: The Self Vows: Seven Vows That Will Change Your Life: https://www.amazon.com/Self-Vows-Seven-That-Change/dp/1532094469 The Breaking Point: A Full-Circle Journey: Living Life Beyond all the Broken Pieces: https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Point-Full-Circle-Journey-Living/dp/1469777053/ref=pd_bxgy_img_1/137-0275251-9091644?pd_rd_w=QBnnl&pf_rd_p=6b3eefea-7b16-43e9-bc45-2e332cbf99da&pf_rd_r=NGB5K92NAFGKPEMARWNM&pd_rd_r=e9fcbcba-72a4-48a7-bc80-d96fcd734c2b&pd_rd_wg=0vx0j&pd_rd_i=1469777053&psc=1 Learn more about Boulder Nutrition here: www.bouldernutrition.com/ Sue on Instagram: www.instagram.com/bouldernutrition/ Sue on Facebook: www.facebook.com/yoginibliss
Making peace with your plate is not about guilt, restriction, body shaming, or attaching your personal value in the world to impossible food and body standards. Making peace with your plate is much more about learning to eat to feel how you want to feel, to being able to track into the intelligence of your body (including hunger and fullness), to find pleasure with food that makes you feel good, and loving and nourishing yourself with your eating. Peace begins with peace. Self compassion starts with small compassionate moments, thoughts, and gestures. Healing happens with love and kindness. What if we ring in the new year by appreciating our body and rejecting diet culture? If you are looking for some ways to take this even deeper, be sure to listen to this weeks podcast episode where my guest, Athina Crilley, shares what can happen when we give into diet culture (including her personal story and all the damage that ensued) rather than learning to eat to feel how we want to feel, be present with our feelings, and create capacity to hold it all. LISTEN AND HEAR: What years of eating disorder recovery, therapy and personal transformation taught Athina about herself, her eating, and her happiness The practices Athina used in healing her mindset –– her primary approach to healing her eating disorder What inspired her to write her book: Diary Of An Anorexic ~ A Recovery Journey How she uses her robust social media platform to promote healing our relationship to food and our bodies. After talking with my client, Taylor Patrice, I learned that the most needed items in the German Afghan refugee camps she is working in are underwear, feminine hygiene products and hijabs. That said, this issue does not lie merely in the fact that people need bloomers. While these items are not only significant to their comprehensive health, they also play a crucial role in the physical and sexual safety of refugees. Hijabs too? Yes hijabs too. This is where cultural understanding and nuance comes into play. If you want to learn more about women and children's comprehensive health issues as they relate to displacement, and how we can help all the new neighbors we will be gaining stateside from Afghanistan before the end of the year, be sure to listen to today's episode of SATIATE This is to remind us all that WE can make a difference in our world (big or small). Something you should know about me: I am a recovering busy body. I have spent the majority of my life rushing, pushing myself, focusing on my productivity and feeling the pull of the ever present hamster wheel. I could blame it on my many years of competitive sports, single parenting or entrepreneurship, but according to my mother, I came out of the womb like this. Recently, I caught myself in a relapse...because old patterns tend to die hard. That said, as I get older, I am learning more and more how to catch these mini-set backs swiftly. Life has taught me a lot about what it takes for me to show up most fully for myself and for the people in my life. Rather than the hamster wheel approach to life, how about the much more enticing magic carpet ride? Listen and learn how I find my magic carpet amid it all.
