Have you ever found yourself struggling to get a good night's sleep - and not just for a time or two but for nights on end? The weight of our work as leaders and responsibilities of our personal lives can be enough to steal our rest for sure. Many times there is something far deeper at work - a question that haunts us and makes us doubt our very core - Is this all there is? It's an unnerving thought but one that's actually pretty common for driven leaders who are constantly striving to be their best yet wonder what is the purpose in all the work we do and is there something to experience in our leadership journey? The good news is yes, there is more. Elise Mitchell, CEO, Mitchell Communications Group, CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network, has asked these same questions and has found some powerful answers that have changed the way that she works, lives and loves those around her. Most importnatly, she's learned there is far more than simply striving for and reaching the destination.

Balance: Living on the High Wire

Pastor Tom Frase taught this month on the pillar of Balance. One of the most difficult problems we face as professionals is the struggle for a workable balance between our work life and home life.  Tom Frase provides his insights as to how we can look at this dilemma and find a way of maintaining proper balance...and the answer is NOT how I can figure it out all for myself.  Maintaining proper balance will require us to allow those around us to help and advise us because we often become so accustomed to being out of balace that we don't even realize it, much less know how to correct it.

Pastor Tom Frase spoke this month on the pillar of Excellence. What do you think of when you think about doing your work with excellence? Does excellence really mean perfection in todays vernacular?  Can someone really do everything with excellence without falling over from exhaustion? Who's definition of excellence should we use.   Tom Frase, Founder of WorkMatters offers a great teaching that will answer these questions and provide you with solid scriptural basis for backing up his thoughts.

We are very excited about this year's Eight to Five.   This is the fifth season of presenting a powerful monthly opportunity for marketplace professionals to gather and hear about ways that their peers are living out their faith at work.  This year, we want to go to a deeper level.  So many of you have told us that you really enjoy the talks, but you want to learn more about faith and work principles.  You have said you want to talk about real world issues that you face every day in your job that challenge you to live out your faith.  Our plan is to use each monthly event to focus more on teaching “how to do it?” which is an often asked question.  We are not saying that we have all the answers to every question you might have, but we want to focus on some of the most important issues and questions that you might have regarding what does living out my faith really look like. Using the WorkMatters Seven Pillars of faith and work as a framework, our goal is to address real life issues we face every day and for you to leave our meetings with solid application points to take back to your workplace.
