Hot off a placement of 28 Years Later on all of our 2025 top ten lists last week, its sequel — The Bone Temple — has quite large shoes to fill. Can Nia Dacosta capture the same humanist magic of one of last year's best movies? We discuss the villainous Jimmies, Ralph Fiennes continuing barn burner performance as Dr. Kelson, and yet another surprising ending in the 28 franchise.
Bone Temple (2026) is an upcoming horror movie that's already gaining attention as one of the most disturbing and intense films of the year. In this video, we break down everything we know about Bone Temple 2026, including the plot, trailer details, release rumors, hidden lore, and why this movie could become the next viral horror hit. Set around a cursed ancient temple built from human bones, Bone Temple follows a group of explorers who awaken an evil entity tied to forbidden rituals and dark mythology. As the horror escalates, survival becomes impossible and the true purpose of the Bone Temple is revealed. With brutal imagery, psychological terror, and a claustrophobic atmosphere, this film is being compared to movies like As Above, So Below, The Ruins, and The Green Inferno. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series set in the world of Westeros, based on George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg. Taking place decades before the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, the show follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his young squire Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) as they travel across the Seven Kingdoms, encountering knights, kings, conspiracies, and the fading legacy of dragons. On the twelfth night of our #31DaysToHalloween the Mister joins me in reviewing 28 WEEKS LATER (2007), from director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, with a script by Rowan Joffe, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Enrique López Lavigne. Six months after the initial outbreak, the US Army establishes a heavily-guarded safe zone in London for repatriated citizens, believing the Rage virus is dead. However, the virus is unwittingly re-introduced when two siblings sneak out to their old home and find their mother alive but an asymptomatic carrier. The resulting, rapid-fire second outbreak causes the military's strict containment protocol to fail violently, forcing the children and a few survivors to flee a city now being indiscriminately firebombed by NATO forces. The film clocks in at 1 h and 39 m, is rated R and we caught the film on Hulu but you can also catch it on AMC+ and to buy/rent on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.#28WeeksLater #RowanJoffe #JuanCarlosFresnadillo #EnriqueLópezLavigne #RobertCarlyle #Don #RoseByrne #Scarlet #JeremyRenner #Doyle #HaroldPerrineau #Flynn #CatherineMcCormack #Alice ##IdrisElba #Stone #MackintoshMuggleton #Andy #ImogenPoots #Tammy #Horror #SciFi @Hulu @amcplus @PrimeVideo #31DaysToHalloween #SpookySeason #Day12 #FridayFamilyFilmNightOpening intro music: GOAT by Wayne Jones, courtesy of YouTube Audio Library

I'm back on the podcast after a break in September. Today, I want to share my thoughts on '28 Years Later'—a film that Jason and I found pretty impressive. It has definitely made my list of favorites this year, alongside 'The Amateur'. I was particularly struck by the cast, especially the young lead, and the way the film balances emotional intensity with moments of humor that made us chuckle. Jason agreed, noting that the lighter moments added depth compared to darker apocalyptic tales like 'The Road'. We recalled some standout scenes, such as the crawling zombies, the memorable Alpha villain, and Ralph Fiennes' quirky doctor, along with the amusing gang in their stylish tracksuits. While we felt some plot points, especially the mother's death, could have been developed further, we both appreciated the world-building and performances. I rated it a 9/10, while Jason gave it an 8.1/10. We also considered the potential for a trilogy, especially with the sequel, 'The Bone Temple', coming out in January 2026. On a positive note, I mentioned that '28 Years Later' had a budget of $60 million and has already grossed $151 million worldwide, which is a good sign for its success before considering VOD or streaming sales. We left the theater feeling satisfied with how the film strikes a balance between seriousness Thoughts? Comments? Do so on the blog here. Send us a textKatie and Bridget refuse to get on the train to the quarantined zombie land as they re-watch the 2nd installment in the series: 28 Weeks Later! We're back in London where apparently all the zombies have starved out and now the AMERICAN ARMY has come in to take over because that JUST. MAKES. SENSE!(?!) But unfortunately our beloved characters from the 1st movie are nowhere to be seen. Instead we've got siblings Andy and Tammy who are being reunited with their Dad, who shall be known as "Fucking-Don". When they find their Mom alive and well after their Dad gaslighted them into thinking he didn't leave her for dead, chaos ensues and yet another god damn zombie apocalypse commences. Although this time we at least have Jeremy Renner and Idris Elba to look at throughout it, so that's cool. We've got loads of questions, unlikeable/unknown characters, and little to no fun ethical conversations in this sequel to 28 Days Later, which doesn't really compare in the slightest. Released in 2007, it stars Jeremy Renner, Rose Byrne, Robert Carlyle, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Idris Elba, Imogen Poots, and Mackintosh Muggleton.

As Jeff calls it on his Letterboxd review: "A movie of surprisingly gentle compassion but also dudes getting their entire spinal columns hauled out of their neck holes." This week we review the reunion of Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and Anthony Dod Mantle for 28 Years Later, over two decades after 28 Days Later changed the zombie genre forever. We talk about the film's emotional surprises, its misleading trailer, and its franchise future. Tune in!

The gang abandons their wife this week as they review the non-Boyle follow up to small Brit zombie hit... this week it's 28 Weeks Later (2007). With a whole new cast, new director, and a new writer this follow yup to 28 Days Later was noted as a sort of cash grab by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle alike. And while it doesn't have the same secret sauce that the original did, there is still plenty to love about this Post Apocalyptic Dystopian movie that is kicking off our new topic for the month of July. Then, we contemplate the film's episodic structure, producing tonally distinct chapters that feel indebted both to Homeric and Alighierian epics as well as fantasy storytelling. Finally, we engage with the film's perspectives on death and mass crisis in the 21st century, how it speaks to our moment post-COVID and amidst Israel's ongoing genocide, and asks us to honor and value life in ways unfamiliar and reverent.Watch the trailer for 28 Years LaterListen to Taylor Holmes' reading of Rudyard Kipling's "Boots"Listen to Young Fathers' soundtrack for 28 Years Later....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.
This week on DtW, the zombies are fast again! Dan and Raul watched 28 Weeks Later in anticipation for the soon to be released third entry. 28 Days introduced the world to an eerily empty London, a talented young Peaky Blinder and the concept of the running dead, so the sequel had big shoes to fill. Fielding a new director, 28 Weeks Later starts with an incredibly tense and gut wrenching opener that is able to build upon the stylistic triumphs of the original, only to then unfurl an entirely original take on post zombie society. Do you need to listen to this episode to get ready for the fantastic looking 28 Years Later? Probably, yes!

Film journalist and friend of the show Brandon Streussnig returns to discuss Danny Boyle's debut film Shallow Grave, a British riff on the 90s neo-noir template, self-described by Boyle and his collaborators as their take on the Coen's Blood Simple. The film chronicles a trifecta of beautiful, sociopathic yuppies sharing an Edinburgh flat (Kerry Fox, Christopher Eccleston, and Ewan McGregor) who unravel after the untimely death of their new roommate and the discovery of a suitcase full of cash. Frenetic, aesthetically bold, and brimming with terrific performances from its cast of newcomers, Shallow Grave stood in stark opposition to the more muted social realism of established British filmmakers of the era like Mike Leigh and Ken Loach and showcased the collaborative power of Boyle, McGregor, screenwriter John Hodge, and producer Andrew Macdonald only a handful of years removed from their landmark feature, Trainspotting. We discuss Boyle's aesthetic inclinations, his history in the theater, and how the cinematic medium can liberate a particular type of artist from the confines of the stage. Then, we unpack the film's stellar trio of performances, its economy of character, and especially McGregor's star-making turn that suggests the greatness he would achieve with Boyle in their next several collaborations. Finally, we explore the film's ire for post-Thatcherite individualism, its attacks on the moral vacuum of the upwardly mobile, the dramatic irony of a film about the corruptability of money even for those who don't need it.In addition, we spend a brief moment looking forward to Boyle's latest film 28 Years Later (a full Bonus episode on the film coming later this week) and what it supposes for Boyle's late period.Follow Brandon Streussnig on Twitter. We've got more zombies than you can shake a stick at this week on Breakfast All Day. First off, we review "28 Years Later," the long-awaited reunion of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in a Britain plagued by rage virus. This is a non-spoiler review, but we're doing a live spoiler chat at our YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 25 at Noon Pacific, so check back with us then and share your thoughts. In theaters now. Then we catch up with the two films that preceded it: "28 Days Later" (2002) and "28 Weeks Later" (2007). We realized in retrospect that you don't need to have seen either of these movies to get into the new one, but we were glad to have the conversations. If you're looking for something a little more lighthearted for the whole family, there's "Elio," the latest animated adventure from Disney Pixar. It's a sweet, gentle film for these stressful times about a misfit kid who dreams of having aliens abduct him. This is minor Pixar, but it's beautiful. In theaters. Finally, we wrap up with a lengthy Movie News LIVE! Among the topics we discuss are the "Jaws" 50th anniversary, the "Brokeback Mountain" 20th anniversary, the trailer for the new Bruce Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me From Nowhere," and Francis Ford Coppola taking "Megalopolis" on the road.
