Throughout a career spanning almost a decade, Berlin-based Romanian producer and DJ Cosmin TRG has released music with Hessle Audio, Hemlock, Running Back, Rush Hour and 50Weapons. His latest is an ambient album entitled "Hope This Finds You Well" (available on bandcamp: cosmintrg.bandcamp.com/album/hope-th…inds-you-well). He tells us: "this mix is a collection of tracks I've come across recently that perked my ear. Traditionally, when putting together a mix I used tracks like building blocks that follows a certain narrative. Recently though, I'm much more excited about the relationship between very unique-sounding, individual tracks regardless of BPM, genre and other made-up boundaries. In the end you still get a narrative, but a non-linear one, rather a story that keeps unfolding. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together!" FJAAK, the Berlin-based trio of hardware heads, have been constantly making a name for themselves over the last half a decade. Having grown up together in Spandau on the outskirts of Berlin, Felix Wagner, Aaron Röbig and Kevin Kozicki began quite early to create all different kinds of music before ending up taking on the city’s heritage – techno – to make it their own. It was back then in 2009 at ‘Gewerbe 15’, their 50 qm shared at studio, where they started to develop their very own distinct sound. The trio first cut their teeth in the electronic music scene by organizing illegal raves in and around Berlin, which eventually led them to run their own techno series – Machine Vibes. Based on all hardware setups and vinyl only sets, the series took them not only to clubs beyond the German capital’s borders but all over Europe, steadily growing their reputation and fanbase. 2014 marked the turning point of FJAAK’s career, when 50Weapons bosses Modeselektor decided to take the young trio under their wings. The start of a promising collaboration which saw them release five critically acclaimed EPs on the label within one and a half years, whilst incessantly travelling the world. Despite their young age FJAAK have played over 200 live shows, spreading their elaborate analogue sound all around the globe. From Los Angeles to Beijing, from SXSW back to Berghain, FJAAK were there to deliver what has become their trademark: raw, naturally crafted techno! Their distinctive sound and signature hands-on mentality, as properly captured in their “Against The Clock” feature for FACT Magazine, were reasons enough for BBC Radio 1’s B.Traits to name the trio one of her Future 12 Artists. Over the years the young trio has gained an impressive experience and routine and has much more that is yet to come... Now, as the concept of techno albums has become widely appreciated, FJAAK released their self-titled debut full length on 20 January on Modeselektor’s main imprint Monkeytown Records. What better way to kick off a new year than with a new project? Sure, podcasts are nothing new, but by now the Dekmantel family has grown to the point where we have a lot to shout about. The DJ collective, festival and label are all well established, but we feel we need even more outlets for all the great music we have from our extended family. As such, we are launching a new weekly series that will showcase exclusive mixes from our favourite friends and freaks, with Marcel Dettmann going first. Aside from being a supremely tall and long haired human being, Marcel Dettmann is of course one of the techno powerhouses behind Berghain. It is his long, seductive and firmly rooted techno sets that have made the Berlin club, and man himself, so hallowed around the world. Also a fine producer who lays down his own brand of concrete funk on labels like Ostgut Ton, 50Weapons and his own eponymous label, he inaugurates our series with a very special live recording then from New Year’s Eve 2014 at Berghain. The resulting 90 minute set is everything it should be - supple and seductive, then freaky and funky, then deliciously dark and increasingly weird towards the end, so enjoy the ride.
