Here at AIR, we kicked off festival season in with Sonar Lisboa, the little sister to the famed Barcelona festival, which took place in early April this year and featured acts like Max Cooper, Jennifer Cardini, Juliana Huxtable, and this month's esteemed guest, @MarcelDettmann. A techno veteran whose name is synonymous with big room sound, Marcel recently debuted a new live set, his first ever foray into live performance, the result of a pandemic spent toiling away in the studio and crafting his landmark album Fear of Programming, which formed the foundation for his live act. At Sonar Lisboa, he presented a new version of his project, which he calls My Own Shadow, a mix of his own productions, field recordings, vocal elements, and on the fly craftsmanship. Marcel and I sat down together in Lisbon to discuss his new live set and the creativity behind it, and how his musical and personal life is shifting over years. Amsterdam Dance Event 2023 was an electrifying experience that exceeded all expectations! The city's vibrant atmosphere perfectly complemented the event's dynamic energy. The opportunity to connect with fellow electronic music enthusiasts from around the globe was a highlight, making it feel like a true global reunion of techno aficionados.The music was nothing short of mind-blowing; the pulsating beats and mesmerizing melodies had us dancing until dawn. The lineup featured a perfect blend of established legends and emerging talents, creating a soundtrack for unforgettable nights.But ADE wasn't just about dancing—it was also a hub for networking, where artists, producers, and industry professionals mingled, shared ideas, and created new opportunities. The synergy in the air was palpable, and the potential for exciting collaborations seemed limitless.As the event came to a close, there was a collective sense of satisfaction and inspiration. ADE 2023 was a true celebration of techno culture, reminding us why we all fell in love with this music in the first place. We've got some fresh new techno from Buenos Aires based techno artist Joaquin Ruiz who features on formative techno imprint Molecular Recordings. We premiere ‘XX 13 B1' a driving techno tool that features intricate bass rumbles alongside well crafted syncopated synth lines, creating a hypnotising club tool. DJ and producer Joaquin Ruiz hailing from the west side of Buenos Aires and resident of the well-known club Under Club is one of the most respected names in techno stemming from the Southern Hemisphere. His music has seen support from some of the world's most treasured DJs including DVS1, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Sims, Kobosil, Dax J, Slam and more. Joaquin's music can be described as the perfect blend of ambient & melodic whilst also retaining the physicality of brute-force of techno. His versatility, talent and graft in the studio make him a true representation of what the techno scene in Argentina stands for. The Buenos Aires techno boss now features on Molecular Recordings a pioneering techno imprint founded by Marco Lenzi and Marco D'Arcangelo in 1994. Based in the UK, the label has established itself as a cutting-edge platform for innovative and original techno throughout the years. Kaum zu glauben. Was ursprünglich als „Kopie“ der Berliner Love Parade begann, findet heuer zum 30. mal statt. Die Rede ist natürlich von der Streetparade in Zürich - nach eigener Aussage die GRÖSSTE TECHNO PARTY DER WELT. Es begann 1992 mit 1000 „Demonstanten“ für Liebe, Friede, Freiheit, Grosszügigkeit und Toleranz - so das Motto der bis heute als politische Demonstration angemeldeten Parade. Ein Jahr später kamen schon 10.000 und im Jahr 2001 tanzten zum ersten Mal eine Million Besucher um das Züricher Seebecken. Auch das parallel zur Streetparade stattfindende "Lethargy"-Festival feiert mit seiner 25. Ausgabe ein großes Jubiläum. U.a. mit Kenny Larkin, DJ Hell, Pilocka Krach und Live-Sets von Dachshund, Dub Spencer & Trance Hill und Komfortrauschen. Ursprünglich als ironische Replik zum kommerziellen "Energy" Rave gegründet, hat die Lethargy in der Roten Fabrik in Zürich-Wollishofen längst hohe künstlerische Standards gesetzt. Stilistisch offener als "nur" mit Techno & House aufgestellt, überraschen Petar Klingel und Kollegen alle Jahre wieder mit genialen Ideen - vom Booking bis hin zur Deko. Zurück zur Streetparade: Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein fahren am 12. August wieder 30 phonstarke „Love Mobiles“ in 12 Stunden die rund zwei Kilometer lange Strecke am Seebecken entlang, mitten durch die Zürcher Innenstadt. Letztes Jahr hatte der ex-Frankfurter erstmals die Main Stage gerockt. Das Interview, das ich damals mit ihm kurz vor dem Gig führen konnte, hört ihr als "Special Bonus" in dieser Episode. Insgesamt beschallen über 200 lokale und international bekannte DJs – darunter Anfisa Letyago, Marcel Dettmann und Seth Troxler – um nur einige zu nennen, das auf den Love Mobiles auf 8 Stages mit 1- bis 2-stündigen Sets. Also eine Mischung aus „All You Can Eat“ und musikalischer Delikatessen-Boutique. Von klassischem techno über Hardstyle bis zu Psy Trance ist alles vertreten. Und auf dem Truck von „Daytona Events“ aus dem Kanton Aargau fährt ein alter Frankfurter Bekannter mit, nämlich Talla 2 XLC. Eine weitere Besonderheit – und vielleicht auch das große Erfolgsgeheimnis der Street Parade ist der Umstand, dass alle DJS und Künstler ohne Gage auftreten, zumindest erhalten sie für den Auftritt auf den Stages keinerlei Honorar. Eine, die beinahe von Anfang an dabei war, ist Jris Carducci. Die Aktivistin und Event-Managerin hat mit der „Generations Stage“ einen kleine Hippie-Oase im gigantischen Getümmel geschaffen, wo wirklich Generationen von aufgedrehten Twentysomethings bis zu gechillten Althippies im Rentenalter lautstark, aber friedlich zu PsyTrance Beats miteinander feiern. Peter Sweeney better known as Rustal joins Diffuse Reality with his mini-album ‘Nexus Zeal' which is due for release on the 12th of December. Rustal joins the labels formidable list of previous of previous releases which includes work from Sunil Sharpe, Dez Williams, Orlando Voorn, Marcel Dettmann, Mary Velo, Zadig and more. Before @igor_glushko became a prominent DJ in the local scene, he spent considerable time contributing to the Ukrainian capital's club life in other ways. Whether acting as assistant editor of the country's only electronic music magazine at the time or promoting and organizing his own events, Igor has been at the forefront of what has become one of the brightest and most prolific scenes in Eastern Europe. As a promoter and event organizer, Glushko has brought in such prominent names as Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Mathew Jonson, Convextion, Peter Van Hoesen, Levon Vincent, Move D, Prosumer, and of course many more, who came to Ukraine for the first time only thanks to Glushko and his team. But it wasn't until 2010 that Igor became an important player behind the decks himself. DJing aside, Igor is also known nowadays as being co-founder of @rhythm-buro, the essential techno initiative in Kyiv that brings the genre's most forward thinking minds to various original locations across the city. Glushko is also credited as being head honcho of the recently established record label of the same name. Every few months Rhythm Büro attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors to their events that combine huge line-ups (featuring artists as diverse as Actress, @donato-dozzy, Ulwhednar, and @artefakt-official), original settings that range from film studios to forest locations, and visual arts. As an honored resident of Closer in Kyiv, Igor is one of a dozen local DJs who continue to shape, define and build Kyiv's electronic music landscape ‘one step at a time. Stay Rave with #R13!

Holding a penchant for deep, dark, driving techno, producer and DJ William Kiss has forged a sound entirely unique to himself. Being a resident at Golzheim Düsseldorf and getting involved in west germanys underground scene, it went more serious for him.
