Ryan and Patrick return with a special Good Way edition of Between the Lines, reflecting on the first Good Way intention: living deeply rooted in the story of God. They discuss how the stories we inhabit shape the lives we live, beginning with the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 and Isaiah 61 (4:13). They explore sin as humanity's attempt to order chaos apart from God and how Jesus restores dignity and empowers the powerless (12:31). They share personal practices—like hearing others' stories, memorizing Scripture, and integrating Scripture into writing—to show how intention shapes communion with Christ and overflows in love for others (27:21). They close with practical entry points for beginners, including slow reading of John's Gospel, imaginative prayer, and forming practices that fit one's personality and season of life (44:56), before previewing next week's focus on prayer (1:09:56).

In this week's episode of Deep & Wide, we explore the beautiful balance of being Deeply Rooted in Christ while extending Wide Branches to reach and impact others. In this message, we discover that spiritual depth fuels effective outreach. When our roots grow deep in God's love and truth, our branches naturally spread wide—bearing fruit, offering shade, and inviting others to find life in Him. This message encourages us to cultivate a faith that's both rooted and expansive, personal and missional.

We're so glad you are here! Thanks for checking out Sunday's message!-- SUNDAY'S NOTES --Colossians 2:6-76 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.Daniel 1:1-2King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 The Lord gave him victory over King Jehoiakim of JudahThe Lord gave Nebuchadnezzar victory???Messes with my theology. Ever feel like God is giving all the victory to your enemies? When we are rooted in him, we can trust God to strategically use bad situations to bring about profound good.He did it here, He'll do it for you.Daniel 1:3-54 “Select only strong, healthy, and good-looking young men,” he said. “Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good judgment, and are suited to serve in the royal palace. Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon.” 5 The king assigned them a daily ration of food and wine from his own kitchens. They were to be trained for three years, and then they would enter the royal service.Daniel 1:6-76 Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were four of the young men chosen, all from the tribe of Judah. 7 The chief of staff renamed them with these Babylonian names:Daniel (God is my judge) → Belteshazzar (Bel favors him)Hananiah (gracious is Yahweh) → Shadrach (Ishtar)Mishael (who is like Elohim) → Meshach (Marduk)Azariah (he hears Yahweh) → Abednego (Nego)-iah, yah for Yahweh. -el for Elohim. Mesopotamian Gods Marduk, Ishtar, NegoFirst thing they did: they changed their names. Some names given to us, the Church:Dove (So and Psa)God's building (1Co 3:9)God's heritage (1Pe 5:3)Pillar of truth - 1Ti 3:15Free (Gal 4:26)Righteous (Heb 12)Faithful (Heb 13)Peace and mercy-givers (Gal)Being rooted into our name/title… We have these names from God. We need to lean into them by the way we live day-to-day.To be rooted in God means to know, believe, and live out our God-given identity.Daniel 1:8-109 Now God had given the chief of staff both respect and affection for Daniel.“Both respect and affection” - this is what we call favor.Pray for us, for favorWhen we are rooted in Christ, his life flowing in us bears the fruits of respect and favor.Daniel 1:12-1612 “Please test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,” Daniel said. 13 “At the end of the ten days, see how we look compared to the other young men who are eating the king's food. Then make your decision in light of what you see.” 14 The attendant agreed to Daniel's suggestion and tested them for ten days.15 At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. 16 So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others.“So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine” that was given to everyone else.If we're going to stand for Jesus through the winds and storms of life, we must be deeply rooted in Him.We won't stand for long if we don't have deep roots. The deeper our roots, the more solid we will stand.Colossians 2:6-76 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.Coming back to this - “Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught”We might have to wait on a miracle but we don't have to wait to be free. When we are deeply rooted, our loyalty to God is not determined by our circumstances.Colossians 2:88 Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.Closing, altar invitation for those who want to be set free from “empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense”Babylon: Your paycheck is enough.Jesus: I am enough.Babylon: This is too hard. You should give up.Jesus: You can do all things when your roots draw strength from me.Babylon: Your identity is in…Jesus: Your identity is in me. To live a radical life in Christ is to be rooted deeper than traditions, preferences, or surface experiences. When storms come, roots in Him make us unshakable, immovable, and unbreakable. That's why we make the church we go to the church we belong to, the church we serve, and the church we give through. We plant ourselves where God is moving and invest our heart, hands, and resources in His Kingdom. Our giving reflects our heart for His people, and heaven rejoices over every soul that turns to Jesus. Being rooted is about being built up in Him and established in the faith. This is the radical life—to love, serve, and live like never before. ____ Partner with New Tribe: Give | https://newtribe.church/give/ ____ Connect with New Tribe: Website | https://newtribe.church/comeexperience/ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/newtribechurch Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/newtribechurch YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/newtribechurch

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

Beloved pastor Andrew Murray (1828-1917) shared how in his native South Africa, various diseases affect the orange trees there. To the unpracticed eye all may seem fine, but an expert arborist can spot the rot that heralds the tree’s slow death. The only way to save the diseased tree is to remove the stem and branches from the root and graft them onto a new one. Then the tree can thrive, producing fruit. Murray connected this illustration to the apostle Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians. From prison in Rome, Paul wrote a letter that wonderfully summarizes the gospel of Jesus Christ. His pastoral heart shines through when he prayed that the believers would be strengthened with power through Christ’s Spirit in their inner being so that He would dwell in their hearts by faith (Ephesians 3:16-17). Paul longed that they’d be “rooted and established in love” and would grasp the full measure of God’s abundant love (vv. 17-18). As believers in Jesus, our roots sink deeply into the rich soil of God’s love, where the nutrients fortify us and help us grow. And as we’re grafted onto Jesus, His Spirit helps us to produce fruit. We may have to weather storms that bend us one way or another, but we can withstand them when we’re rooted in the Source of life and love.

It's Not About the Alcohol

In today's episode, Colleen introduces a transformative exercise to uncover the deeply rooted beliefs that might be holding you back from achieving your goals around alcohol. Learn how to identify these limiting thoughts, challenge their validity, and replace them with empowering beliefs that align with the identity you want to build. This episode is a must-listen for high-achieving women who are ready to break free from shame-based narratives and create lasting, identity-based change. Key Takeaways: Beliefs Are Thoughts You No Longer Question: Many limiting beliefs feel true simply because they are habitual thoughts you've practiced over time. These beliefs often stem from subconscious narratives about who you think you are. Identify and Challenge Your Limiting Beliefs: Think of someone you admire for their relationship with alcohol and ask yourself: What do you believe about them that makes them capable? Use this reflection to identify the gap between their identity and your current beliefs about yourself. Instead of asking “Why am I like this?”—which reinforces the limiting belief—shift to asking, “In what context is this belief not true about me?” Rewriting the Narrative: Find a context where the limiting belief doesn't apply, or borrow empowering beliefs from your role model. Create a replacement belief that feels true for you and practice thinking it consistently. Remember: Your feelings are a direct result of your thoughts. By changing your thoughts, you change how you feel and behave. Actionable Steps: Reflect on a Role Model: Identify someone whose relationship with alcohol you admire. Write down the beliefs you think they hold about themselves. Uncover Your Story: List the limiting beliefs you have about yourself that might be creating a gap. Identify one belief that feels the most true and painful. Challenge and Replace: Find an instance where this belief doesn't hold true or borrow a belief from your role model. Create a new belief that feels authentic and achievable. Practice replacing the limiting belief with this new thought every time it arises. Monitor Your Progress: Track moments when you successfully challenge old beliefs and celebrate small wins. This builds motivation and reinforces the new identity you're cultivating. Homework: Identify one limiting belief about yourself related to alcohol and replace it with a new, empowering thought. Write it down, and each time the old belief surfaces, consciously replace it with the new one. Over time, watch as your mindset and behavior begin to shift. Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL.
