Nico has a problem with this song - in that it reminds him of something completely different and he can't figure out what it is. Until he does. Want to hear every episode, and see every video review? head to https://archive.org/details/headfullofradio
Chase and Nico take a train into Michel Gondry's mind and fall into the darkness of the Knives Out Video. It's a mind mess, especially that weird microphone at the end!
I'm feeling a tiny bit too gassed to look it up, but I think this is maybe the fourth-consecutive episode of the podcast to drop on Thanksgiving.Thursdays aren't fantastic for metrics it seems, but what's more likely is that this thing just isn't really marketable in terms of audience growth. And that's okay. There was never a pipe dream to have it all blow up. It's always been about connecting with people and sharing stories. And I'm pretty proud to be closing in on 200 episodes/four years of sittin' down with folks to talk about life and music.Point being, nobody's really paying attention to anything on Thanksgiving; they're all movin' around and preparing and whatnot. Most folks, anyway. And I want to give a special shoutout to those that aren't: To those that have spent or do spend this particular holiday without friends or without loved ones -- shouts out to you. You are loved, even if sediments of solitude occupy a portion of your day. Or your life.I don't know how the way current times feel compares to The Depression or Civil Rights or the late '70s when there were gas lines or any of the rest of it. I just know that it makes me a little sad everyday that people are being ugly to each other. It almost feels criminal to discover yourself enjoying something like a little time away from the grind when there are people out there that would give anything to have the grind be a part of their lives. So, I'd like to just...share a human moment, and say that I appreciate all of you that are currently inhabiting the planet. I mean, if you're fuckin' with other people and doin' creepy shit that ain't kosher -- well -- knock that off.People in traffic annoy me often. Same with comments-section campers. And don't get me started on the homeslices and the girlfriends that think that what's happening in the United States right now is fine. Lemme tell ya': Fine would be fantastic. Shit's "pretty fuckin' far from okay."So hopefully today some of you can wiggle yourself into that once-familiar feeling of things being okay, and you can enjoy your sweet potatoes, and compliment the pie crust, and -- of course -- offer to do the dishes.Anyway...Matthew Naquin is this week's guest. He was kind enough to share some of a Tuesday evening with me a couple of weeks ago, and together we hammered out Episode No. 192.We talked about his illustrations (Check him out on Instagram at @thesanmateo.), his music (thesanmateo.com plus Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music), life, family, comedy, and a bunch more, including a few of his favorite records, which were these:U2's The Joshua Tree (1987)Gentlemen (1993), The Afghan WigsPortishead's Dummy (1994)F# A# Infinity (1997), Godspeed You! "It gets certain points for just being stylistically cool and different and enjoyable, but I think there's part of it that is a little bit not for me?"
We detangle the backwards/forwards recording of the song, and also listen to what the song sounds like backwards, or forwards? We listen to them both ways. Our heads are spinning, at this point.
Nico: "At First was like, 'yeah you've got me' and now it's like, "well i don't know if you've kept me.' Like a distorted version of being in a meditation lounge".

Nico loves the fact that this song appeared from a jam - "Usually it's like, 'they've spent 365 years underground measuring the antenna of a woodlouse'.. "
What are we teaching Nico in this episode? That music isn't that snake-y."Like adding in a Coda""What's anaconda?""Not anaconda, a coda, like an ending".
Nico finds some logic between AI and Knives out, and he kinda has an interesting point.
Andrew does ASMR. Nico BOPS (not to the ASMR, to the song). Did you know three of the songs on this album are spaced specifically to deal with water related things?
"You told me this was going to be a regular song, but what does regular mean?"- Nico
Nico tenses up and waits for the revolving door to drop. Does it happen? No, it turns into what he calls, "Art Therapy".
"Why is there a car? To be fair that's the least of my concerns right now."...."Oh.. More cars"-NicoRemember to watch along with us on vimeo.com/headfullofradio
Thom: "(For this album) We are definitely having singles, videos, glossy magazine celebrity photo-shoots, children's television appearances, film premier appearances, dance routines and many interesting interviews about my tortured existence."Nico: "Well there's a line..."
The band recorded Optimistic the day after laying the tracks down for this one, so maybe that's telling where it fits within the context of score? Also somehow it took a long time for Andrew to bring up Stanley, which is not what a good host should be doing here. Certainly not shim-shimming.

Nico felt like this was very White Lotus-y, "I don't know, it was just cool. I feel like I certainly haven't processed it. It's confused me but drawn me in." Which is how Andrew feels about ACTUALLY being in the same city, hanging out with his co-host at the time this episode airs!
Ready to learn about Saddam Hussein and Christiane Amanpour? No? Well it DOES have information on where the title of the song came from. We also learn about the United Nations Special Commission and tunnels and more tunnels.
Andrew is transported back into the living room of an old friend who tried to teach him how to play piano, while Nico wishes he was on mushrooms.

一曲目「Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box」は、金属的なビートと冷ややかなヴォーカルが印象的だが、不思議と拒絶感はない。 「You and Whose Army?」

'Tis the season, spooky season that is! We were very fortunate to attend a screening of the silent horror classic Nosferatu devilishly synced with the two most chilling Radiohead albums, Kid A and Amnesiac. What horrors do the albums unleash when paired with the ungodly sights of Count Orlok himself? Which songs pair the best with the vampiric frights and which left us perplexed? Also, the newspile is full of mysterious items such as Thom's first pre-solo show interview, Tom Skinner's illuminating radio interview, Jonny's email Q&As, an enriching Cutouts review, and a coven of curious covers that might just put a spell on you.
Danger With Grainger xx-xx-xx (04) Amourous Amnesiac
Early cinema, despite a lack of conventional sound, has always been engaging as an experience since it's typically been paired with live scores to match a specific film's tone. Screening with live scores can still be found today, but Austin's Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In founder Josh Frank decided to put an interesting spin on the classic concept; Frank decided to change up the experience by pairing silent films with contemporary live performances by bands like Radiohead and R.E.M.. For its first installment of screenings, played in art theaters and drive-ins across the country, they'll be pairing the 1922 horror film Nosferatu with Radiohead's albums Kid A and Amnesiac. So today on FilmWeek, we talk to Josh Frank about his latest venture and the thought process behind it.

I'm very pleased to welcome Sammy Sanchez back to the program for a record-setting fourth appearance on the Badass Records podcast. And none of our chats have been brief ones.Sammy initially came around for Episode No. 44, in which we discussed a few of his favorite records: Pink Floyd's Animals (1977), Rain Dogs (1985) by Tom Waits, and LCD Soundsystem's This Is Happening (2010).For his second appearance, we tackled the Tom Waits discography, and that was super-fun and very educational. On his last go-round, we unearthed all of the Beck albums, and I think we're both glad we did that. This time, though, Sammy took the suggestion lead, and we decided we'd examine the studio albums by one of his all-time-favorite bands, Radiohead. If you're keeping score at home, those'er these:Pablo Honey (1993)The Bends (1995)OK Computer (1997)Kid A (2000)Amnesiac (2001)Hail to the Thief (2003)In Rainbows (2007)The King of Limbs (2011)A Moon-Shaped Pool (2016)Sammy's one of the most intelligent guys I've ever met, and this rich conversation we had was full of gems, i.e. the reminder (for me) that he longs to one day be a contestant on Jeopardy!.In the meantime, he's continuing to launch a new career, set aside a little nest egg, prepare for some quasi-upcoming travels, and possibly start a podcast of his own.Anyway, thanks to Sammy for his time and energy. And thanks to you for checking out the show.p.s. I meant Yo, Flaco, not Yo la Tengo.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained in this episode. Our next guest is a familiar name, having been featured as part of our artist Q&A series. We had such a great time, we knew we had to have him back to talk about his third book. Author Tim Facciola joins us to talk about his soon-to-be-released “The Age of the End,” out on April 16. Here's a quick synopsis of the overall story. In a world where blood is a short resolution for rebellion, Zephryus only knows two things: he is prophesied to bring peace and balance to the world, and he doesn't remember anything before his life as an enslaved gladiator. With the fragmented shards of his memory, he is bought by the prince to fight in the gladiator ring, and spy on the queen's bloody rebellion against the king. Fighting as a gladiator means fighting for his life, and as he faces the prince's foes and thwarts the queen's plans, he also discovers that there is more injustice in this world than he imagined. Will Zephyrus be able to stay alive long enough to enact his revenge? Or will the vengeful plot within this royal family keep him from fulfilling his destiny? Tim shares the inspiration for this book as well as the 10 years he spent developing the world and its characters. He explains how Zephyrus' amnesia shapes the story, as well as the extensive psychological research he did during the writing process. Tim talks about the story's conclusion (with no spoilers!) and the possibility for spinoff or prequel down the road. We go into the many reviews he's gotten, if he reads them, and how such feedback affects him as a writer.
John “Fritz” Johnson was living on top of the world. He was a successful radio personality, television sports director, was married to a beautiful model, and was a champion archer. He was one of the best known and most liked personalities in Omaha, NE. While promoting some archery gear he was approached by someone claiming to be his niece and his 2 brothers, but had no memory of them at all. Today, we'll discuss the life of Lawrence Joseph Bader and some theories on what might have caused him to lose his memories, the fallout that resulted when Bader came back from the dead 7 years after his assumed death, and whether he suffered from amnesia or was running an elaborate hoax. As the end of the 20th century approached, Radiohead took to the recording studio to capture the sound of a society that felt like it was fraying at the edges. Many people had high hopes for the new millennium, but for others a low hum of anxiety lurked just beneath the surface as the world changed rapidly and fears of a Y2K meltdown loomed.Amidst all the unease, the famed British band began recording their highly anticipated follow ups to their career-changing album OK Computer. Those two albums, Kid A and Amnesiac, released in 2000 and 2001, were entrancing and eerie — they documented the struggle to redefine humanity, recalibrate, and get a grip on an uncertain world. In this episode, we travel back to the turn of the millennium with Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood and the music of Kid A and Amnesiac.
