Our first full episode at "755 Forever" as David & Eric catch you up on the flurry of roster moves that Alex Anthopoulos orchestrated this offseason.(04:00) An extended conversation on the addition of LHP Chris Sale,  who the Braves seemingly have the luxury as slotting as their 4th starter. His ERA was above 4.00 last season in Boston, but he did strikeout 11 batters per every 9 innings. Get to know the litany of pitchers behind him vying for the 5th spot in the rotation.(22:30) Jarred Kelenic is now in a drastically different situation in Atlanta than his time in Seattle. He was traded for during the Winter Meetings and is expected to hit in the bottom part of the order, unlike his time at cleanup with the Mariners.(30:00) Maybe the most important offseason move was the extension of GM Alex Anthopoulos all the way through 2031. Ever since he came to town, the Braves have not lost the NL East.(40:00) A look at how the bullpen is stacking up for 2024. Aaron Bummer was acquired in exchange for 5 players from the White Sox, and Reynaldo Lopez was inked to a 3 year deal. Hear about the other moves that are fortifying the 'pen during this very busy Winter.(48:30) Max Fried has a crucial season upcoming as he will be a Free Agent (as of now) in November. Hear why it is unlikely that he will reach an extension in the middle of the year.(51:00) Next week the new Hall of Fame Class will be announced and among those under serious consideration are Andruw Jones and Billy Wagner. Eric overlapped in Atlanta with Billy during 2010 and very clearly makes the case why "Wags" should be headed to Cooperstown.

Sale comes with some risk, but also potentially big rewards. Anthopoulos is a no-brainer. His long-term future with the Braves brings greater certainty to the Braves' bright future.

From the Henssler Financial Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. Today is Monday, January 8th, and I'm Keith Ippolito. Braves GM Talks Trades and Connection In a recent talk at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Alex Anthopoulos, the General Manager of the Atlanta Braves, discussed the Braves' impact on local communities, his managerial philosophy, and recent trades. He emphasized the importance of sports as a community connector and highlighted the team's recent acquisitions of pitcher Chris Sale from the Boston Red Sox and outfielder Jared Kelenic from the Seattle Mariners. He also stressed the importance of not getting overly fixated on winning the World Series. "I never view it as 'World Series or bust,'" he said. "Only one (team) of 30 is going to win the World Series. So, I think if that's the way you look at it, it's going to be a hard way to go to work each day." Anthopoulos shared that while player trades aren't his main focus in the off-season, fans should never expect the team to settle. "If (a trade) is the right decision for the team, I'm all in," he said. Business leaders in the audience resonated with Anthopoulos' emphasis on teamwork and informed decision-making, drawing parallels between sports and their own professional lives. BREAK: CU of GA – ESOG STORY 1: The Cobb County School District recently named a new school, the Betty Gray Middle School, in honor of the late educator Betty Gray. Initially, Betty's daughter, Della-Lisa Gray, felt indifferent due to her grief. However, her perception changed when she visited the school. Betty Gray Middle School was established in August, serving students in grades 6-8. It is a tribute to Betty Gray's remarkable career, from her beginnings as a teacher to becoming one of the district's first female administrators and principals. The school underwent a $9 million renovation before opening. Betty Gray's dedication to education and her ability to teach English made a lasting impact. She also served 16 years on the Cobb Board of Education, representing South Cobb. Betty Gray is remembered as a trailblazer and advocate for her community. Her legacy inspires others to take the lead in their own lives.......…….Get more stories like this from mdjonline.com     STORY 2: The Atlanta Braves, despite having the best record in Major League Baseball and a potent offense, faced an early postseason exit for the second consecutive year, raising questions about their preparedness and ability to execute. General Manager Alex Anthopoulos is tasked with finding solutions to avoid such outcomes in the future. The team's historic offense underperformed in the playoffs against the Philadelphia Phillies, despite leading MLB in runs and home runs during the regular season. While the Braves' lineup appears strong, they struggled in clutch situations during the NLDS, but Anthopoulos remains confident in their abilities. Decisions regarding free agents like Eddie Rosario and Charlie Morton will influence the team's offseason plans.   STORY 3: Zaid Pineda Santana, a Marietta resident, is facing charges of trafficking methamphetamine. Santana allegedly sold approximately 1,000.9 grams (around 2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine to a confidential source from the Drug Enforcement Administration during a controlled purchase operation on September 14. The transaction took place at the Ivy Commons apartment complex in Marietta. Although Santana is not listed in Cobb County jail records, the DEA issued an arrest warrant for him. Information about his bond status is not available at this time. .......................…..(pause) We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info.   We'll be right back Break: DAYCO – ELON – JRM (CRAFTS & DRAFTS)   STORY 4: Eastvalley Elementary School in Cobb County, Georgia, recently unveiled its new $36.7 million, 150,000-square-foot building on a 20-acre site. The opening was delayed by two months due to supply chain issues. The school, funded by special-purpose local-option sales tax revenues, now features 61 permanent classrooms, more restrooms, a larger gym, additional art rooms, and two playground sets. The old building was too small to accommodate the growing student population. The expanded capacity allows the school district to handle future growth without major redistricting. Teachers and staff are excited about the improved facilities, and the move has been positively received by students.   STORY 5: The Marietta Community Reads program encourages community-wide shared reading for young members of the community. The initiative involves 12 childcare centers in Marietta, including the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, focusing on the same books and themes each month. In October, the theme revolves around community collaboration. Parents are encouraged to read and engage with their children while discussing what it means to work together as a community. The recommended books for October include "Milo Imagines the World," "Stray Dog," "Maybe Something Beautiful," "Last Stop on Market Street," and "Thank You, Omu." Families are also encouraged to partake in community-building activities like sharing artwork, donating books, and baking goods for neighbors. The initiative aims to enhance children's literacy and promote community engagement.     We'll be back in a moment Break: DRAKE – INGLE 4 – POWERS   STORY 6: Leah And now here is Bruce Jenkins' conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on essential oils.   STORY 7: We'll have closing comments after this.   Break: JRM (KENNESAW) – Henssler :60 Signoff- Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Marietta Daily Journal podcast.
