A new episode is out and this time Aaron (Autto421) joins Jordan and me on the podcast. We quickly recap the gritty 3-2 victory NYCFC had against Inter Miami but then the conversation switches to the rumors that Alexandru Mitrita will be loaned, with an option to be bought, to Al Ahli FC. This news couldn't have come at a worse time after Mitrita playing his best two matches of the year and that Maxi Moralez is still injured. Aaron breaks down his thoughts of NYC's season and it's head coach Ronny Deila performance. Then we finish up previewing the match against DC United which is being played for the first time in eight months at Yankee Stadium. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer New York City FC continued their strong run of form, twice seeing off Inter Miami comebacks to win 3-2 at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday courtesy of two goals from Alexandru Mitrita. All five goals came in a rollercoaster of a first half when momentum swung rapidly between the two teams. Mitrita got the scoring going early, running in behind the Miami defense and providing a neat one-time finish to an Alex Ring ball over the top. We had to wait a while for the game's second goal, Lewis Morgan applying an emphatic right-footed finish to a stylish team move involving Blaise Matuidi and Victor Ulloa in the 27th minute. But the goals then came thick and fast. Eight minutes later, Anton Tinnerholm drove forward and cut inside from the right before beating Luis Robles with a low left-footed shot from 20 yards, Miami again pulled level in the 38th minute. Morgan grabbed his second of the night, this one even more spectacular than his first as he struck an unstoppable right-footed shot after a layoff from Gonzalo Higuain. But the parity lasted just five minutes. Mitrita matched Morgan with his second goal, running from deep inside his own half and into the Miami area before getting the benefit of a deflection off Ben Sweat to find the net. That proved to be the end of the scoring, though Miami were celebrating a late equalizer from Julian Carranza only to have it called back for offside following a video review. The last time I recorded an episode was back in early February when @NYCFCTactics and I recapped a month of NYCFC news. This was PRESEASON! Roddy, Juan and Chris P stepped in to record a few but I could NOT let them do Episode 200. This is a special one for sure! NYC was coming off their hottest unbeaten streak and suddenly lost to Portland, Orlando and now the Red Bulls. Aside from reviewing these matches and taking all your questions, this episode, number 200, is a special one because it marks the end of a journey and the start of a new one. This is my last time hosting/recording/producing NYCFC Nation podcast. A lot has happened in the last 9 months and I do not find podcasting as enjoyable as I did. Five years, 200 episodes are in the books and now I plan to take NYCFC Nation on a different path. What will that be? Stay tuned and enjoy the show. Buy our NYCFC Nation merchandise! This is it, one game left against Atlanta to see if New York City has what it takes to win on the road with a 2 goal difference! Post Game Player Reactions & Quotes – New York City FC vs Atlanta United FC – 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinal Audio clips from Jo Inge Berget, Sean Johnson, Jesus Medina (Spanish) and Yangel Herrera (Spanish). Quotes from Domènec Torrent, Alexander Ring, Sean Johnson provided by NYCFC.com NYCFC HEAD COACH DOMÈNEC TORRENT On tonight’s match & looking ahead to the second leg in Atlanta… “Today, it’s a bad result for us but I reminded my players, we need to imagine it’s a final. We need to win the next game. If you’re able to win the next game, you need to score at least one goal. 1-0? Extra time. If you’re able to win the game and score two goals, you are in the [Eastern Conference] final.” On what needs to be adjusted heading to Atlanta… “We need to win the game. I have to find the best solution and the best team to play better. I agree with who played the game in the second half. The second half we played much better, we can play side-to-side, we can play two against one. We played well the second half, they defend very well but we just need to win the game. We don’t need to win 2-0, 3-0, 4-1 - no, no - we need to win. If we win at least 1-0, it’s extra time, if you score 2, you are in the [Eastern Conference final], it’s as simple as that. We need to improve, absolutely. We need to improve for the next game because they have quality and the first half, we didn’t play well because we didn’t have the connection between the central midfielders and the strikers. We didn’t defend well, the set pieces especially. Every single corner, every single free kick, they could finish. We have to improve because in a semifinal or a final, you have to be focused on that, in every single action. But I am happy at the second half because I think we played much better - not in the first half and we have chances to win in Atlanta, why not? They have a good team but New York City as well. Our intention is to go to Atlanta to win the game because we need to win.” On Maxime Chanot… “Maxime, the last month, has played amazing, incredible. He has a special quality, he has a desire to win. It’s about the mentality. The mentality Chanot has shown in the last month is incredible. He was a leader for the defenders, the same with [Alex] Ring and Yangel [Herrera]” NYCFC MIDFIELDER ALEXANDER RING How Atlanta’s physical game effected NYCFC attacking game… “No, I think the first half we didn't play that well from the back, I think the second half we played much better. Their corners and set pieces were dangerous, it's the payoffs and they did a good job but nevertheless we shouldn’t have conceded a set piece.” On what they will like to continue next week… “I think we changed the way we were playing a little bit, pushed a bit higher on the sides. I played alone in the midfield, I think that gave us a better rhythm maybe, where we were better spread out in the pitch than in the first half. You have to give them credit, they did well the first half and they know we like to play from the back, but I think we showed in the second half that if we play like that we’ll have a really good chance in Atlanta.” On having to win the match in Atlanta to advance… “Exactly, it’s one game and we have played there before, we know we can score goals there so yeah, I’m not worried. I’m looking forward to it, like I said, [the] playoffs are what we’ve been working for all year and I’m sure we are going to bring our “A” game when we show up there.” NYCFC GOALKEEPER SEAN JOHNSON Thoughts on today’s game… “I think given our position now, Atlanta is going to be a final. We win and we give ourselves a chance. It’s one goal. If we score two, it’s gonna be a fight. So we just have to treat it like that and It’s gonna be an exciting game. I think we’ll just have to come prepared again. You know, we’d love a goal [today] but not conceding the second goal after conceding one of the set piece is important.” Confidence level on the road for this team right now... “Obviously we know what we have to do. Nothing really matters in the past going forward now. I think it’s really down to a belief in the group and I think we’ve had a little more belief in us the past couple of games and even tonight in the second half. I mean, we came out and tried to take it to them. So, we’re not really looking into our struggles in the past leading up to this next game in Atlanta, so we’re just going to treat it like a final.” How did Atlanta prevent NYCFC from attacking... “I think they did a good job at pressing. I mean, the way they set up, they knew how we wanted to play. I think it was just gonna be a battle to see if we could win a second ball. And I think they won a few more second balls in the first half. But when we did play a little more direct and win a second ball, we were able to advance the ball up the field quite rapidly. So that’s kinda how the game was at home earlier this year for large stretches and away as well…[it] didn’t catch us by surprise if you will. But I think obviously we can improve and figure out a better way to advance the ball and gain more control of the game, cause when we do that, we score.” NYCFC Nation Podcast Show Link & Info Purchase our NYCFC Nation scarf 100% of proceeds go towards City in the Community!! http://thenycfcnation.com/2018/04/nycfc-nation-scarf/ Episode Link: http://thenycfcnation.com/2018/11/nycfc-vs-philadelphia-union-post-game-audio-clips-quotes-10-31-2018 Episode Sponsored by - SportsHosts Andres Emilio Soto @TheAndresSoto - https://twitter.com/TheAndresSoto OhCitySaidI IG @CitySaidI - https://www.instagram.com/ohcitysaidi/ Podcast Outro Song - N/A Leave Us A Rating And Review Like listening to the NYCFC Nation Podcast? In my opinion, the Atlanta United FC match was one of the best games I've watched in a long time. What say you? New York City FC came away with a huge point against a team that is known for their non-stop attack. Though it did take a penalty shot, a goal reversal and an amazing shot by Alexander Ring to come away with a tie. Along with guest Jordan Kessler, Chris P and I discuss the 2-2 result, we choose one player each to analyze and we also preview the upcoming match against Portland Timbers. We also talk about an amazing organization we fully support here on The Nation, South Bronx United. Please find a way to support their cause. This episode is really packed with more goodies as ChrisP is later joined by Nikolai Fedak to talk about the result article YIMBY published in regards to a possible new development project/ soccer stadium for NYCFC called Harlem River Yards. The project coming to the South Bronx would rise adjacent to Somerset Partners’ assortment of new towers already in the works, adding another major affordable housing building, as well as the City’s first dedicated soccer stadium, with 26,000 seats, designed by Rafael Viñoly. Last, but not least, we are excited to announce the sale of our first NYCFC Nation scarf in which ALL proceeds go towards CITC. Click here to learn more. Well, that's all folks. At least for the NYCFC 2017 season as they beat Columbus Crew SC to a score of 2-0 but that's not enough to push them on to the Eastern Conference Finals. For us here at The NYCFC Nation the off-season has started and before we discuss who we want to see leave the team and who we want to keep we do discuss the win and the many questions our Nations have with substitutions during the match and the overall play from our key players. Welcome to the NYCFC Nation Podcast! Yup you read that right. The NYCFC Fan Podcast and NYCFC Nation are now one and the same with the podcast. We are very excited about this announcement coming right at the end of the year and look forward to an amazing 2017. After our discussion about gift giving during the holidays, the evolution of Christmas light decorations and announcing that Chris M is now officially a member of NYCFC Nation we actually go through a ton of topics all related to New York City FC. We start with the MLS Draft and the fact that not one player was selected from NYC's list of unprotected players. We discuss Mix Diskerud's no trade clause and review the two new players that have recently joined NYCFC in Sean Okoli and Sean Everet Johnson. With the acquisition of Sean Johnson that gives New York City a roster of 4 goal keepers. Who is going to start the first match and who is going to be traded? The MLS came out with a list of available free agent players. Should anyone on this list be targeted by NYC? What's going on with Ronald Matarrita's contract and the interest he's receiving from other Clubs? Rumors are out that NYCFC is eyeing Danish midfielder Jeppe Andersen. Plus a lot more, enjoy.
