Despite the frenzy of U.S.-led diplomacy around reaching a ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine, the front line has been far from quiet. In fact, the war is now deadlier than ever before. Edition No144 | 20-05-2025 - Journalist Ekaterina Barabash apparently escaped from house arrest, and fled Russia in May 2025. Russian film critic and journalist Ekaterina Barabash has penned an extraordinary article in the Kyiv Independent confirming what many realistic ‘Russia watchers' have suspected through most of the full-scale war. Most Russians ‘don't care about the war' she claims.----------This is not a story about so-called good Russians and bad Russians. I've always felt that was a very unhelpful concept, with little explanatory power or practical use. Are people who actively support the regime doing bad things – yes. Are people who think the war should stop yet perform jobs such as programming Russian FPV drones bad – well, yes. But they may not think of themselves as immoral or even complicit. Are those who are against the war but do not protest in Russia bad? Are those who live outside of Russia, work and live their quiet lives yet don't organise to oppose the regime bad? We could perhaps say the same about most people who don't protest the slaughter in Gaza, Sudan and innumerable other parts of the world. It's complicated. Are people who continue to live and pay taxes in Russia contributing to the slaughter in Ukraine bad? Yes – but don't Europeans by buying Russian LNG gas and oil also directly funding the slaughter of Ukrainians yet may also be vehemently against the war.----------LINK:https://kyivindependent.com/almost-all-russians-poisoned-by-imperial-propaganda-says-journalist-ekaterina-barabash-after-escaping-russia/----------Your support is massively appreciated!SILICON CURTAIN LIVE EVENTS - FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGNEvents in 2025 - Advocacy for a Ukrainian victory with Silicon CurtainNEXT EVENTS - LVIV, KYIV AND ODESA THIS MAY.https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extrasOur first live events this year in Lviv and Kyiv were a huge success. Iar The New York Times apreciază că întâlnirea a crescut speranțele ucrainenilor.
Edition No131 | 18-04-2025 - A man who's been called Trump's spiritual advisor visited Ukraine and then seemed to have a revelation. 'Putin is pure evil', he pronounced in his verdict on Russia's war against Ukraine. Televangelist Pastor Mark Burns declared, "I now believe that supporting Ukraine is America first." He is now urging the US to send Kyiv more tanks, fighter jets, and air defence. This is a dramatic turnaround, because only last month, when Trump paused military aid to Ukraine, Pastor Mark Burns, backed the decision.Burns's dramatic shift in stance comes after a trip to Ukraine. There he witnessed the atrocities committed by Russia first-hand, visiting the site of a missile attack in Kryvyi Rih, which killed 20 people, including nine children.“Being on the ground in Ukraine has changed my opinion significantly.” Said Burns in an interview with The Kyiv Independent. “I am on record as being one of the staunch opponents of supporting Ukraine. But it took me being in Kyiv, being at Bucha, seeing the atrocities that have taken place, innocent lives being killed, executed.”----------Links: https://kyivindependent.com/supporting-ukraine-is-america-first-trumps-spiritual-advisor-pastor-mark-burns/https://www.dagens.com/news/trumps-spiritual-advisor-reverses-course-on-ukraine-calls-russia-pure-evil-after-visit/----------Easter Pysanky: Silicon Curtain - https://car4ukraine.com/campaigns/easter-pysanky-silicon-curtainCar for Ukraine has joined forces with a group of influencers, creators, and news observers during this special Easter season. This week, Scott was joined by his Lawfare colleagues Eric Ciaramella and Anastasiia Lapatina, as well as special guest Kyiv Independent reporter Francis Farrell, for an episode committed to one big topic: what Trump's return to the White House might mean for Ukraine. They tackled the issue in three parts:“What Condition My Attrition Is In.” By most accounts, after more than two years of fighting, the conflict in Ukraine has come to look very much like a war of attrition. How do Ukrainians feel about the state of the conflict and the prospects looking forward? What steps are the outgoing Biden administration taking to change the calculus—and what impact might they still have, if any?“New Boss, Same as the Old Boss.” Donald Trump's return to the White House promises a sea change in how the United States has approached the conflict in Ukraine. What do his early national security appointments—and engagements with, among others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—tell us about his plans? And where do they seem likely to lead?“Flipping the Board.” Trump's election—and whatever outcome he is able to bring about in Ukraine—has the potential to reset the strategic environment in Europe (and the U.S. strategic relationship with Russia) more generally. What might regional security—and security for Ukraine specifically—look like by 2028?For object lessons, Nastya recommended Catherine Belton's new book, “Putin's People,” on the return and rise to power of the KGB. Eric gave a belated endorsement for the Oscar-winning South Korean film “Parasite,” and urged folks to watch it as a celebration of the democratic resilience South Korea demonstrated this week. Scott plugged the holiday variety show he was attending that evening and urged listeners to welcome the season with Aimee Mann's “One More Drifter in the Snow.” And Francis recommended GeoGuessr, the geolocation game that has taken the KI newsroom by storm.Rational Security will be saying goodbye to 2024 in its traditional fashion: by discussing listener-submitted topics and object lessons! Israel spent the last few days engulfed in mass protests and paralyzed by a national strike after the bodies of six hostages, including an American Israeli, were recovered from a tunnel in southern Gaza this weekend. But despite national outcry for a ceasefire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to double down on his terms for a deal with Hamas during a press conference Monday night. While the war in Gaza captured most of the headlines this weekend, Russia's war in Ukraine is showing no signs of letting up either. On Monday, Russia fired a barrage of missiles and drone attacks on the capital city of Kyiv, while President Volodymyr Zelensky conceded that Ukrainian forces holding territory in Russia had not yet managed to divert troops away from the frontlines of the war in the country's east. Kateryna Hodunova, a journalist at the Kyiv Independent, explains where things stand in Ukraine after two and a half years of war.And in headlines: Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden held their first joint campaign event in Philadelphia to promote their support for unions, Brazil's Supreme Court upheld a decision to ban X in the country, and Italian Paralympic runner Valentina Petrillo became the first openly transgender woman to run in the games.
