In this episode Steven talks with Chris Webber MInstD  who sits on the board of health provider Te Rau Matatini (Te Rau Ora) and is a strong advocate for Māori-run health programmes. In this podcast, Webber talks about wayfinding, a concept which comes from the Pacific navigation methodology. In this context, wayfinding is about how you maintain your waka, he says. “You point it in the right direction, you take notice of all the signs that come, that you have trained to be aware of, and the island comes towards you. It's another way of thinking about things.”Boards need to choose a destination and take notice of signs – be they changes in the world, transformations in communities or legal and regulatory challenges – as they navigate their organisations, Webber says. Chris Webber is a Member of the Institute of Directors.Connect with Chris: linkedin.com/in/chris-webber-05aaa89/Find out more about the Advanced Directors Course:https://www.iod.org.nz/governance-courses/advanced-directors-course-2/Find out more about the Institute of Directors: https://www.iod.org.nz/

Another offseason, another Kings flashback game where hosts Owen and Fong watch a Kings games from way back when, usually when they were good. This year, they're going to watch the Kings vs the Mavs in game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-finals. This is a game that features a Mavs team that is led by a young Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash going up against a grizzled Kings team that after losing last year's epic series against the Lakers in the Western Conference Final, is now seasoned and ready to win a championship. This game however, is for better or for worse, the final game in which we would get a prime Chris Webber for a full game before he injures his knee and would never be the same again. But with a healthy Webber for this game, the Kings absolutely dominated the Mavericks, making viewers question how the Mavericks were the #2 seed in the West and led the league in offense and were ranked 9th in defense. While the Mavs were the better team in the regular season this year, The Kings showed them they were leagues ahead of them as a playoff team. Back to the modern day, The Kings released their schedule for the 2022-23 season and it's ... interesting to say the least. The Kings basically start and end the season with a lot of difficult matchup and the main takeaway is that if they're serious about making the playoffs, they'll have to earn their spot. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sackingtherapy/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sackingtherapy/support

In our seventh episode, we  reflected on Rest and Relaxation, both what we do and enjoy, and what God says about this topic. Yes we are called to work as though working for the Lord, but there is also the invitation and commandment to rest - what does this look like?In the opening dialog we answered some 'open questions' regarding 'important' facts from earlier episodes...The song "Take the Long Way Home" was written by Supertramp. The Fab Five (U of Mich basketball) are Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. If you have input, feedback, or other things to request, please send us an email at:checkpoint@hillcrestcrc.comQuiet time scriptures we reviewed:Isaiah 55:1Exodus 34:5-7Proverbs 19:11James 5:12Each of us shared some of the things we like to do to rest and relax. These included: walking with our wife, bicycling with the guys, observing the Sabbath by worshipping and not working, family hikes together, taking a run after work, playing a simple game like FreeCell or watching a simple TV show, campfires, camping and last - but not least, going fishing. The disciples, after Jesus death and resurrection, got away for a while to fish. When done fishing, Jesus was waiting for them. Often we need to get away from our normal routine and look for Jesus to be waiting for us to connect in a new, renewing way. (John 21:3)Our soul needs God. God brings us to places where we can connect to Him and experience his restoration. We need to rest in Christ, he is faithful. (Psalm 23:1-2)God commands and invites us to rest, to observe the Sabbath. What is rest? It can be physical, or simply a break from our regular routine.  The most important rest is rest for our souls. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus calls out to those who are 'weary and heavy laden' and explains the key to finding rest for our souls.  The answer is being yoked to Jesus, to be hooked or connected to him.  We wondered out loud, what if?  What if I  would only do what God says is right, how many things go away and I can truly rest.  If I take out of my life things not of God and take on the things of God, how much trouble and turmoil in my life would fade away?We cannot do this on our own strength, but when we submit to God and live by the Spirit and not by the flesh, this is the way of God, of living in His kingdom that does bring a peace that passes understanding. This is the first step, getting out of the worldly rat race and focus on God and who he is calling you to be.FINAL THOUGHTSTake time to rest! Get connected with your Savior and King, your Lord and your God.Bottom LineOur hope is that this encourages you to think about the areas of being a godly man we have been discussing on this podcast where God wants YOU to grow. The purpose of our podcast is to help each other be better leaders, husbands and fathers for God's glory. Our discussions are based on elements from the Men's Ministry at Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church in Hudsonville, MI. For more information about us, check our website and hillcrestcrc.org.

Here's today's You Get The Gist!  If you've been watching March Madness recently, hopefully you've seen the new commercials, sponsored by Powerade, supporting the power of pause. They feature premiere such as Simone Biles, Premier League soccer manager Antonio Conte and Olympic Gold diver Tom Daley as they take pause to relax and enjoy unexpected hobbies. Also featured are former NBA stars Chris Webber and Jason Williams. Let me quickly say that I have no relationship with Powerade; my fascination is with the power of this campaign – not only for athletes but for driven perfectionists  - no matter what their field. “I've come to recognize the power of the pause and the Powerade brand's campaign is a timely reminder to take a moment when we need it—whether for a deep breath, a timeout or even a season out,” Biles said in a statement. “We push ourselves hard physically and emotionally to achieve our dreams but if we are not our best mentally, then we are not maximizing our full potential. I want to help encourage everybody to be kinder to themselves, because that's when we're at our strongest and we can achieve the most. Here's the commercial! Rich comments on the Indianapolis Colts landing yet another big name quarterback in Matt Ryan (following Philip Rivers and Carson Wentz) and says why Indy could be a legit contender to reach the Super Bowl, and breaks down the limited options for Baker Mayfield who might have to wait out the NFL Draft to see which teams might be interested in trading for the Browns now-backup QB in the wake of the Texans trading Deshaun Watson to Cleveland. Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Webber tells Rich what it was like to celebrate with their Michigan Wolverines in the locker room following their Big Dance 2nd Round win over Tennessee to send their alma mater to the Sweet 16, says why Juwan Howard's suspension for instigating a post-game brawl vs Wisconsin is not indicative of his true character, says why LeBron James knows the clock is ticking on the Lakers' ability to turn around their season, and gloats over his prediction before the NFL season that Matthew Stafford would lead the Rams to a Super Bowl win.  Learn more about your ad choices.
