Graham Coath talks to North Carolina indie pop outfit The Mystery Plan. They will talk about Their new album 'Haunted Organic Machines', released via American boutique label 10mm Omega Recordings. Their eighth full-length album and 13th major release to date, the band explores new, but familiar territory from spacey dance grooves to spooky, moody dream pop and then some. This record finds the group in new and very strange soundscapes. While the last few records were co-produced and mixed by the legendary John Fryer (4AD, This Mortal Coil, Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails, Love & Rockets), this one is produced by Jason Herring and Rob Tavaglione exclusively. It's a little louder, while being equally textured and strangely arranged. "This is an emotional album. The songs from this record were born during the pandemic, either during lockdown or as we were coming back into a somewhat more normal life. There is no denying the emotional tug between longing for companionship and the celebration of togetherness. Some songs are about sorrow while others are of the love of life. 'Big Bliss', the opener, is about both of those things together. This album has sadness and joy, uneasiness and comfort, depending on the song. The closing song, 'Holding My Interest' actually did not originate during the pandemic, but was reworked during the downtime and transformed into a love song. Jason wanted to end the album on a sweet note and leave our listeners with a feeling of hope and warmth," explains Amy Herring. "Our albums have always offered a variety of musical styles and a journey of feelings and, of course, this one does that as well. We do not believe in playing to one style of music over and over again. Our band leader Jason is a DJ by trade and has been making mixed tapes since he was a child. He has always loved taking his listeners on a journey, giving the audience a variety of lovely tunes to grace their ears keeping them from ever being bored… That is exactly what he's doing here, only we're making the music ourselves."
This week's food guests are Tamy Rofe and Felipe Donnelly, husband and wife team behind beloved Colonia Verde in Fort Greene and newly opened Disco Tacos in Williamsburg. Felipe, a Colombian chef who spent his childhood throughout Spain, Brazil and Mexico, and Tamy, a sommelier, worked for award-winning global advertising agencies for more than a decade, before they began to host weekly dinner parties in their apartment. The dinner series quickly grew in popularity and evolved into pop-ups, and then their first restaurant in Soho, Comodo. In 2014, the restaurateurs opened James Beard award-nominated Colonia Verde, the Latin American restaurant in Fort Greene known for its sold-out Sunday Asado backyard party series featuring guest chefs from around the world. The team also operates Comparti, a full-service catering company, and Casa by Colonia Verde, a pantry and marketplace of curated prepared foods, fresh produce, home goods, wine and more.In Summer of 2020, they wanted to bring moments of joy during a stressful time and opened Disco Tacos, a food truck with disco music and vibrant neon colors. One year later after countless tacos served all over New York, the food truck transitioned to a full service restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg, which just opened a few weeks ago. Today we’re going to talk about the journey and the destination and how my view of these concepts has radically changed because of Law of Attraction This episode is perfect for anyone who wants to learn… The strained relationship the pre-LoA version of me had with the journey and my misunderstanding about the point of having goals Real-life examples of sacrificing the journey when there is an over-focus on the destination Why you should want what you want, but how you might be pre-paving against yourself Why I used to rush through and past the delicious unfolding of what I wanted—and how you might be doing this too The breakthrough a client had about goal setting Abraham’s reminder about relaxation and fun and happy endings Get the show notes here: https://jennifer365.com/blog/love-your-life-podcast-130

Hnry Flwr's bio reads like this: “My mother gave psychic readings to new friends in new towns all through my childhood, she meditated, we fled a cult, practiced Judaism for a year, and then she became a born again Christian. She was and still is a seeker. At fourteen, I went to a punk show. There I witnessed and felt the drive to save people with music, performance, and experience, the way I was saved as a young adult. At sixteen I left home and have been writing songs and practicing a sort of secular spirituality, where music is the prayer, ever since.” Hnry and We Color Live's Jocelyn Simone come to the studio where Hnry and I go deep into what his experience was like and how it affected him, creatively and otherwise. It seems that Hnry has taken fairly extreme circumstances and put them to great use in his own weird development. More about Hnry Flwr HERE YOU CAN SEE Hnry Flwr LIVE Jan. 29!!! - TICKETS HERE We Color Live PRESENTS: WAITING ROOM OF THE GREAT BEYOND In celebration of HNRY FLWR's first official release since 2017's “Brilliant” (GoldFlakePaint) FLOWERAMA EP, We Color Live presents WAITING ROOM OF THE GREAT BEYOND— A carefully curated bill of the top up and coming crooners, JW Francis, Big Bliss and Viktor Longo of New York City to celebrate the release of the “Waiting Room” single. A sweet tooth, a passion for perfume, a healthy dose of early onset entrepreneurship and good ol' fashioned hard work all helped fuel Jeni Britton Bauer on her journey to the top. She's the founder of the eponymous artisanal ice-cream company, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, and she sits down with us to share stories of growing up in Ohio, how she launched her brand and how she dreams up the most creative flavors in the game. We continue with the theme of hard work when we meet up with Brooklyn band, Big Bliss. The post-punk trio--composed of brothers Cory and Tim Race, and their friend Wallace May--was crowned “NYC’s Hardest Working Band of 2017” by Oh My Rockness, and true to form, they talk to us about the merits of doggedly practicing one's craft. Big Bliss is currently busy working on an upcoming LP, and just recently released their 7-inch single, "Contact." Snacky Tunes is powered by Simplecast

Oh My Rockness has a list of what they call the “Hardest-Working Bands of 2017” -- the artists who they listed the most shows for last year. Of the ten on the list, six will be playing a show together on Friday, February 2nd at Baby’s All Right. And we have music from five of those six to start this episode off: Big Bliss, Fruit & Flowers, Darkwing, Grim Streaker, THICK. After that, we have excellent new music from Kid In The Attic and TKR TKR. And we end with a block of music by the now Grammy-winning outfit Lost Bayou Ramblers from Lafayette, Louisiana, in town for one of their final shows before going on hiatus after nearly two decades of activity. 00:00 - // StereoactiveNYC / BTRtoday ID // 00:40 - // Welcome // 01:21 - // NYC’s Hardest-Working Bands of 2017 / Oh My Rockness // 04:48 - “Contact” (BTR Live Studio, 2017) - Big Bliss 08:58 - “Constants” (BTR Live Studio, 2017) - Big Bliss 12:42 - “Out Of Touch” (BTR Live Studio, 2016) - Fruit & Flowers 15:52 - “Quid Fakere (BTR Live Studio, 2017) - Darkwing 18:42 - “Babysitter” (BTR Live Studio, 2017) - Grim Streaker 20:42 - “Puke’s Diner” - THICK 24:23 - “Wasting My Time” - THICK 27:49 - // New music from KITA and TKR TKR // 33:32 - “More” - Kid In The Attic 36:28 - “Fragile Ego” - TKR TKR 38:49 - “Help Me” - TKR TKR 42:18 - // Lost Bayou Ramblers return to Brooklyn // 49:36 - “Bastille” (BTR Live Studio, 2012) - Lost Bayou Ramblers 53:19 - “Croche” (BTR Live Studio, 2012) - Lost Bayou Ramblers 57:03 - “Carolina Blues” (BTR Live Studio, 2012) - Lost Bayou Ramblers 59:36 - // Outro + Disclaimer // 60:51 - // Finish.
