What happens when you stop waiting for change and decide to create it yourself? In this episode of Building Confidence, I sit down with Amanda, founder of Awesome Women in Construction, to talk about how one breakfast with 14 women grew into a thriving community supporting women across every part of the construction industry. From networking events and regional roadshows to awards nights and programs helping women return to the workforce, Amanda shares what it takes to build a movement that creates real opportunities. We also dive into the power of asking for help, finding your community, creating flexible career pathways, and why backing yourself—even before you feel ready—can open doors you never imagined. In this episode, we discuss: How Awesome Women in Construction began and has grown over the past decade Building a supportive community in the construction industry Why networking is about connection, not perfection The importance of sponsorship, advocacy, and creating opportunities Supporting women returning to work and into apprenticeships Flexible work, career pathways, and the future of construction Knowing when it's time to leave an unhealthy workplace Why asking questions and asking for help are career-changing skills Whether you're just starting your career, looking for your next opportunity, or wanting to connect with like-minded people in the construction industry, this conversation is a reminder that you don't have to do it alone. Sometimes all it takes is walking through the door, asking the question, or reaching out to your community to discover what's possible.

What does it take to support the women who quietly sustain Jewish life? In this inspiring conversation, Joanne Greenaway speaks with Aliza Bulow, founder of Core, a global organization that equips and connects women who serve as spiritual guides, community builders, educators, rebbetzins, mentors, and caregivers. From a handful of participants to a worldwide network spanning more than 100 cities across six continents, Core has become a movement dedicated to strengthening the women who strengthen everyone else. Aliza shares her remarkable personal journey: from converting to Judaism as a teenager in Portland, Oregon, to studying in Israel, serving in the IDF, and ultimately creating an innovative model of leadership development rooted in connection, wisdom, and spiritual resilience. Along the way, she reflects on faith, loss, marriage, community responsibility, and why women's often-unseen leadership is indispensable to the future of Jewish life. Together, Joanne and Aliza explore what it means to be a community pillar, how leaders can avoid burnout, why women need stronger support networks, and how trust, hope, and faith are transmitted from one generation to the next. This is a conversation about leadership, purpose, and the extraordinary impact of women whose influence ripples far beyond what most people ever see. If you've ever wondered who supports the people everyone else turns to, this episode is for you. This LSJS podcast is powered by The Walder Foundation and a generous anonymous donor. Order NOW to get exclusive signed editions from BN.com AND the Special Edition from Target! In the winter of 1980, wealthy socialite Martha “Sunny” von Bulow was found unconscious in the bathroom of the mansion she shared with her husband, Claus, in Newport, Rhode Island. An ambulance was called and Sunny was rushed to the nearest emergency room, but paramedics and doctors were unable to revive her and Sunny would remain in a coma until her death in 2008. At first, Sunny's coma was a mystery to doctors, but soon suspicion fell on her husband, Claus, who appeared indifferent to her condition and was openly carrying on an affair with another woman. The family launched a private investigation and eventually turned up strong evidence they believed implicated Claus in the attempted murder of Sunny, but, as they soon learned, believing it and proving it were two very different things.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1985. Send us a textThis case is in living memory. Going back to 1974. Egon Von Bulow's parents came from South America, had him while in the UK, then left him when they went back home. Not an ideal start for him. He grew up anti authoritarian. He shot three policemen and committed other crimes after seemingly losing control during July 1974. He could be living near you today.
Send us a textBefore the OJ Simpson trial, the Claus Von Bulow case was the trial of the century. It was the first nationally televised criminal trial. This case has it all wealth, sex and murder. This case provides a peek into the secretive lives of socialites. Sunny Von Bulow inherited over 200 million dollars at age three. She was a constant on the Manhattan and Newport society scene and her apparently aristocratic husband Claus, fit right in. As the 1980's rolled around the talk of divorce was in the air, that certainly that concerned Claus. The case would culminate in a prolonged coma for Sunny and a possible life sentence for Claus Von Bulow. Dominick Dunne writes just one little paragraph in his reporting on the von Bulow case that was definitely worth investigating. Dunne makes a mention about Paul E. Molitor, Jr., who was kind of a big deal in Newport for a little while, for his preservation efforts and being a houseguest of Sunny and Claus. But it is really his mysterious death, just at the height of his triumph, that is the real mystery. Continue your investigation with ad-free and bonus episodes on Patreon! Dunne offers intimate portraits of his sister Dominique, an actress on the rise four decades ago (having starred in Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist in 1982) who was strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend; his father, Dominick, whose coverage of Dominique's murder trial in Vanity Fair turned him into the marquee chronicler of celebrity true-crime cases of the Eighties and Nineties, from O.J. Simpson to Claus von Bulow to the Menendez brothers; and his aunt, the legendary Joan Didion, about whom Griffin made an acclaimed Netflix documentary.
