Effectively, in a polarized America, where partisan divides fuel everything from family feuds to social snubs, bumper stickers aren't going to sway anyone to your position, however they may result in more hostility being directed towards you.

Chris Merrill rejoices in the fact that the reports of the demise of Dolly Parton were greatly exaggerated... Which can only mean one thing... Yesterday's prayers for the safety of Dolly were met! She only has kidney stones, and nothing worse!!! Also, Chris is still befuddled by how versatile YouTube is, especially if you get Premium, so the music doesn't get interrupted...And Chris is REALLY annoyed by your bumper sticker.

Aviation expert Scott Hamilton joins Chris Egert on that topic before a discussion about a perceived lack of leadership within the Democratic party and a new study showing that your bumper sticker may create more anger in other drivers than you realize.

Judgement. Talk about a gateway to misery. Sure. It may feel satisfying for a hot minute, but just like letting fly with a nasty statement in retaliation when my feelings are hurt, the feeling is fleeting.More to the point, when I'm judging others, it says more about me, than it does about them. After all, who the f*ck am I to judge, anyway? And yet, we all do it.What if, in the moment the judgement arises, instead we get curious? That's what I discuss this week. Inspired … by a bumper sticker. In a world where what passes for radical honesty usually means someone is just letting things fly outta their pie-hole without much care for others, it's time for radically authentic conversation. Conscious communication is simple, but often isn't easy. That's why Cathy Brooks created Talk, Unleashed – a weekly podcast of radically honest conversation about — everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, each episode invites curiosity. Curiosity not about what people do, but why they do it. Who they are and what makes them tick. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. A mix of solo episodes where Cathy shares her insights and experience or Cathy engaged in conversation with fascinating humans doing amazing things. No matter the format - it's unvarnished, radically honest and entirely unleashed. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy works with symphony orchestras, corporate clients, and individuals to help them unleash and untether their leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages.#judgement #bumperstickers #compassion #understanding #dogbehavior #baddogbehavior #dogtraining #shiftingbehavior #brutalhonesty #radicalhonesty #consciouscommunication #leadership #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #fiercecompassion #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

Thanks so much for listening to our podcast! This sermon is based on Genesis 1:26–31, and is the final week of our "Bumper Sticker Theology" summer sermon series, in which we have unpacked various popular phrases on bumper stickers, in memes, and so forth! In this sermon we wrestle with God's gender in Scripture and what it means to be people of faith in a world where many of us struggle to understand gender diversity and the "gender revolution" we are going through in our culture. We hope it will be a meaningful word to you this week as we try to think more deeply together. To find out more about our church, you can head on over to www.williamsburgbaptist.com. I call it, “Bumper-sticker Theology.” That's my label for the kind of theology that involves no deep, contemplative, pondering or meditation of the weighty issues of faith. But rather it's like a drive-by approach to significant issues where we just wave at them as we go past and summarize our conclusions in pithy phrases that fit well on t-shirts or bumper stickers. We have a plague of bumper-sticker theology in our generation.Daniel Schreiner, “Engaging with ‘Practicing the Way': Nine Thoughts on John Mark Comer's Best Seller,” March 12, 2025.

Do you know what the letters WWJD stand for? You'll find the acronym on everything from bracelets to T-shirts to key chains. The letters stand for, What Would Jesus Do? This phrase reminds Christians to put Jesus first in all that we do. As parents, we need this reminder, but so do our kids. And the best way for them to learn this is to see it demonstrated in action. So the next time you're faced with financial stress, work problems, or a health crisis, take a moment to sit next to your son and go to the Lord in prayer. When your son sees and hears you ask the Lord for help, he'll understand that WWJD is more than a bumper sticker. It's a way of life. For more encouragement and parenting advice, visit Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

LA-based artist Christopher DeLoach and I talked about his path from class clown to intrepid traveler—walking the Appalachian Trail—to becoming an artist and creator of the iconic bumper stickers you know and love. He shares a series of surreal encounters, including rides with enigmatic characters while hitchhiking that challenged his worldview. Our conversation spans from his childhood in NYC to an unexpected adventure in his early 20s and how both continue to shape him today. We talked about identity, American culture, his painting process, funding and sustaining a career in LA, becoming known for something, doubt, belief, and even death. It's a humorous and earnest conversation that I really loved—let us know if you listen!Show notes:- Find Christopher on the Web | Instagram -The bumper sticker story we talk about- My Substack | IG: @letitouttt + @katiedalebout- Zine shop is here! - My Creative Clinic If you liked this episode, try out from the archive:Episode 393: Kismet Color with Artist Kimmy Quillin: Painting, Living in NYC as an Artist, and Highs and Lows of Creating
