Candel Therapeutics CEO Dr. Paul Peter Tak joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce that the company has entered into a five-year, $130 million term loan facility with Trinity Capital, marking a significant step in strengthening its balance sheet and funding its clinical pipeline. The loan consists of four tranches, with the first $50 million drawn immediately upon closing. The second and third tranches, totaling $50 million, will be available upon achieving specific regulatory, clinical, and operational milestones, while the final $30 million tranche may be drawn at the lender's discretion. The facility carries an initial interest rate of 10.25% per annum, either fixed or floating at Candel's option, and a five-year term with an interest-only period of 36 months, extendable by an additional year upon achieving a commercial milestone. The agreement also includes customary covenants and default provisions. Dr. Tak emphasized that this financing provides the company with the flexibility to advance its most promising oncology assets, particularly CAN-2409 and CAN-3110, while exploring strategic partnerships to support additional indications. Candel has prioritized its portfolio to focus internal resources on CAN-2409 in early localized prostate cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)—two of the largest oncology markets—while seeking externally funded partnerships for the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma program. The company reported compelling Phase 2a data, successful enabling work for a Phase 2b/3 trial, and received Orphan Drug Designation from the EMA for this indication. Candel Therapeutics CEO Dr. Paul Peter Tak joined Steve Darling from Proactive to highlight new subgroup analyses from the company's positive Phase 3 clinical trial of CAN-2409 in patients with intermediate-to-high-risk localized prostate cancer. The data were presented at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology or ASTRO. Radiation therapy remains the standard of care for this patient population but has seen little advancement in more than two decades. Despite current treatments, approximately 30% of patients experience disease recurrence within 10 years, underscoring a significant unmet need. The pivotal Phase 3 study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial enrolling 745 patients. Participants were randomized 2:1 to receive either CAN-2409 plus valacyclovir in combination with standard-of-care radiation therapy or standard-of-care radiation alone. The investigational therapy was administered both before and during radiation treatment. The trial met its primary endpoint, demonstrating 30% improvement in disease-free survival, 38% improvement in prostate cancer-specific disease-free survival and at two years, a pathological complete response rate of 80.4% in the CAN-2409 arm, compared with 63.6% in the control arm. Importantly, Candel presented additional subgroup analyses showing that the efficacy of CAN-2409 was consistent regardless of the radiation modality used in the trial. This independence underscores the broad applicability of the therapy across different treatment settings. Recurrent high-grade glioblastoma is a rare and aggressive brain tumor, which today is generally treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Outcomes are poor, with survival ranging from three to nine months and five-year survival rates less than 10 percent. Candel Therapeutics is developing viral immunotherapies that both kill tumor cells directly and enlist the patient's own immune system in the fight against cancer. It's experimental therapy CAN-3110 uses a modified herpes simplex virus that carries a viral gene that is designed to allow the virus to replicate in tumor cells while avoiding healthy cells. We spoke to Paul Peter Tak, president and CEO of Candel, about its viral immunotherapy, how it works, and what clinical studies have shown to date.

Candel Therapeutics CEO Dr. Paul Peter Tak joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's second quarter results and upcoming milestones, highlighted by plans to seek U.S. approval for its lead cancer therapy CAN-2409 in late 2026. The filing follows the success of a pivotal Phase 3 prostate cancer trial and the FDA's decision to grant the therapy Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy designation. The company reported a narrower loss for the quarter, supported by strong clinical data and new financing that extends its cash runway into early 2027. Candel closed the quarter with $100.7 million in cash, positioning the company to continue advancing late-stage development while preparing for launch readiness activities. CAN-2409, an investigational immunotherapy, is being tested across multiple tumor types. Pourtant, la magie opère : on se laisse embarquer par cette douce folie et cette sensibilité dans le spectacle Fusées. Créé par Jeanne Candel à Paris au Théâtre de l'Aquarium et présenté au Festival d'Avignon au Théâtre Benoit Xii, c'est l'un des rares spectacles de cette 79è édition où l'on croise dans le public des enfants (qui rient de bon cœur). Dans ce spectacle minimaliste et inventif, deux hommes se retrouvent seuls dans le cosmos. Une histoire d'abandon qui explore l'aventure de la conquête spatiale et la nature humaine face à l'adversité. Dans Ce que j'appelle oubli, écrit par Laurent Mauvignier, Sophie Langevin met en scène Luc Schiltz. Le comédien délivre sur scène l'histoire d'un homme battu à mort pour avoir dérobé et bu une canette de bière dans un supermarché.
