It is a privilege to welcome singer-songwriter Kelsie Watts to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.  Born into a musical family, the Lubbock, Texas native developed her powerful vocals and artistry as a child. Her two musically talented parents encouraged Kelsie to pursue her craft after hearing her sing for the first time at two years old. Growing up performing in church and as the lead in her school plays, Kelsie went on to study opera, vocal performance, and commercial music at Belmont University. In Nashville, Kelsie began to hone her craft by songwriting and creating her own music that would soon launch her career.   Kelsie began writing and releasing music independently, which caught the eye of industry professionals and her peers. In 2020, the emerging artist was asked to be the featured vocalist on AJ McLean's single, "Hurts to Love You, " released under McLean's ATCK venture.   Following the single release, Kelsie auditioned for NBC's The Voice: Season 19. She wowed the judges and viewers with her version of Kelly Clarkson's "I Dare You," securing her a place on Team Kelly. The performance didn't take long to go viral across social media, and it has since gained millions of views.  On the heels of her run as a member of Team Kelly, Kelsie focused on her career as an independent pop artist. Her single "Live Out Loud" was recorded by multi-platinum and GRAMMY Nominated producer NicoTheOwl.  The track was the theme song for the Tokyo Sky Tree Global Campaign, Tree of Hope W1sh Ribbon Project. Legendary photographer and director Leslie Kee directed the official video for "Live Out Loud. The video streamed on loop 24/7 from Tokyo's Tokyo Sky Tree and was featured during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.  In 2021, Kelsie Watts unveiled the powerful "Look What You Missed," an upbeat female empowerment track co-written with Casey Cook. Shortly after, she released "I Can't Say Goodbye," an anthemic ballad for anyone who has gone through a painful loss. Kelsie penned the song about the grief of losing her brother suddenly due to issues with his mental health in the hopes of helping others who have gone through similar anguish.   No stranger to going viral, Kelsie has now accumulated over 100 million views across social platforms, including TikTok and Instagram, with her cover videos of iconic pop music, which she films from her home in Nashville. The Emmett Till Story Part II: Elder Parker Visits McCallie School The Rev. Wheeler Parker, the last surviving member of the family of Emmett Till, who was with Emmett when he was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, visited McCallie School on March 13, 2024 to share his story as a first-hand witness to history. He came to campus as a guest speaker as part of the Mandela Fellow Endowed Fund, a fund established by alumni to enhance students' understanding of what it means to be an agent of hope, reconciliation, and social justice. In this edition of Stories from the Ridge, the Rev. Casey Cook received her masters degree from the University of California Los Angeles. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, NYC and NC at galleries and museums including Dan Bernier Gallery, Lehmann Maupin, I-20, Branch Gallery, Light Art and Design, LUMP Gallery and The Nasher Museum. Her most recent solo show, Kissing The Scarecrow, was in May of this year at Shrine in NYC. Cook works in a multitude of genres including sculpture, video, film, music and predominately painting.  She was a founding members of the art rock band Americans in France and currently fronts Sunny Slopes. She is working on a solo album of her music collaborations to be released in 2023.

Greg, Susan, and their friend, Barb, have a disjointed conversation about M. Night Shyamalan's 2016 film, "Split." The suspenseful tale about a Kevin Wendell Crumb - a man with disassociative identity disorder (DID) who has 23 distinct personalities and kidnaps three girls to sacrifice to an evolving 24th personality known as the beast, stars James McAvoy, Anna Taylor Joy, and Betty Buckley.  They talk about McAvoy's mesmerizing performance,  including the seven personalities into who he transforms throughout the film. William K.C. "Casey" Cook was born in The Hague, Holland in 1945 and his family moved to Burnaby, BC in 1950.He graduated from Burnaby Central high school and played his junior lacrosse inCoquitlam, played up for the senior Adanacs in 1966 and 1967, and played 14 games ofSenior for Coquitlam. In 1969 he joined the New Westminster Blues of the Inter-City amateur league and also played for the Salmonbellies. In the same year he joined the staff of the Vancouver Parks Board, where he would stay as an administrator for the next 34 years. Before joining the Salmonbellies’ organization, he was with the Burnaby Cablevision lacrosse team for 6 years. Casey Cook is an organizational bungy jumper - when a situation needs addressing, confront it boldly and leap feet first into a solution. It’s not that he’s a compulsive overachiever but, rather, an individual who loves a challenge. Born May 11, 1945, in The Hague, Netherlands, little Cornelis arrived in Canada shortly before his fifth birthday with his parents and four siblings. The family settled down in South Burnaby where young Cook picked up his “Casey” nickname and a lifelong love for the game of lacrosse. After moving through the South Burnaby minor box lacrosse system, Casey joined the Coquitlam Junior A team for the 1966 and 1967 seasons, accumulating 42 points in 32 games. Lacrosse in B.C. tasted professional status in 1968, but not wishing to endure lengthy road trips after completing a 4-year scholarship at the University of Michigan, Casey opted to turn senior with the Coquitlam amateur team - the Adanacs, who were now playing out of Portland, Oregon.“I don’t really recall what I did,” said Cook when asked about his rookie season. “It’snot that important.” But what he accomplished was to take the 1968 scoring title. The following season, he transferred to the New Westminster Blues and was instrumental inleading them to a Mann Cup final. In all, Cook picked up 145 points in 62 senior games.By now, however, his interests turned to coaching youngsters. In addition to his jobwith the City of Vancouver Recreational Department, Casey coached minor teams inSouth Burnaby from 1968 to 1973 and held down the association presidency the lattertwo years. In 1974, Casey turned his full attention to coaching the Burnaby Cablevision Junior B team, taking the club to four national finals and to the 1977 Canada Games.Following the 1979 season, he left Burnaby and began his lengthy relationship with theNew Westminster Salmonbellies. “Lloyd Solomon telephoned me and asked if I would be the ‘bellies’ GM,” he recalled. “I jumped at the challenge.” The ‘bellies went to the Mann Cup finals in 1980, but began the following season with a poor 3 and 8 record. Casey assumed the coaching duties, halted the losing woes and directed the team to the Canadian title. With the exceptions of 1984 and 1989 when he co-coached the club with John Hannah, Casey placed all of his efforts into the management end of team business. In 1985, Casey took over the role of Salmonbellies president, a position he held until 2000 when growing outside commitments forced him to step down; however, he remained with the team as vice-president. What were his teams’ records over the 20 years? 4 Mann Cups in 11 trips to the Canadian finals. Somehow, during the same period of time, the durable Dutchman managed to squeeze in time to sit on the WLA Board of Governors for 15 years, three of them as Chair; act as Treasurer for theCanadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame; serve a 5-year stint with the CLA box sector, the lasttwo as Chair; and serve on several BCLA committees. Obviously, people took notice.Casey won the WLA Coach of the Year honours in 1984 and 1989 and Executive of theYear in 1989 and 1992. The BCLA named him Coach of the Year in 1978, 1981 and 1989.In 1990, the CLA presented him with its Award of Distinction.

Matthew F Fisher was born in 1976 in Boston, MA and received his BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design (1998), followed by his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (2000). He has been the recipient of residencies and awards from the Pollock Krasner Foundation (2016), Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, New York (2015, 2007) and the New York Foundation for the Arts (2010), among others. Recent solo exhibitions include Into the Blue, Johansson Projects, Oakland, CA (2018) and Group shows include Pro Forma: Context and Meaning in Abstraction, curated by Dr Vittorio Colaizzi, Work Release, Norfolk, VA (2017).  Matthew stopped in while in from LA for his two person show at Shrine Gallery on the Lower East Side with Casey Cook and he spoke about coming up with titles for work, sports radio, NY vs LA and much more.
