Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to the first episode of this new series of Attendance Bias: over the next few weeks, we are going to take a look at venue Phish is going to play on their upcoming 2025 summer tour; from old favorites like SPAC and The Mann, to first-time visits for Phish, like Folsom Field and Forest Hills Stadium.Today, I am joined by returning guest Chris Casey and his partner Jenn, both New Hampshire natives, to give us a local view of the SNHU Arena, or the “SNU,” at which Phish will open their summer tour with a 3-night run on June 20, 21, and 22.Phish doesn't have a big history at the venue, but Chris and Jenn have a long history in Manchester, and New Hampshire as a whole. So, what follows is a mix of a venue preview and a travelogue. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to our previews of other venues on the summer tour.

@Notevend2 talks with 2023-24 1st Team All-NE10 player, Matt Becht on this week's episode. Matt Becht attended high school in Virginia where he played for Bishop O'Connell. After a successful high career, Becht committed to Mount St. Mary's. Early in his freshman year, Matt suffered a knee injury that required surgery. That would only be the start of the adversity Matt faced during his college career; in just two years playing for the Mountaineers, Becht went through three surgeries. Matt entered the transfer portal after his second year, and would commit to Division 2, NE10 member, Southern New Hampshire University. The next three years playing for the Penman would be filled with success; in three years Becht averaged over 14 ppg in every year, and shot 45% from three in his final two years with SNHU. In 2023-24 SNHU won a NE10 championship and made a run all the way to the D2 NCAA Elite 8. With one year of eligibility left, Matt entered the transfer portal where he would hear from plenty of Power 5 and high major schools. Becht committed to Merrimack for the 2024-25 season. Merrimack competes in the MAAC conference and kicks off their season Saturday (11/9) against Vermont. Hear about his basketball journey dealing with adversity, his dominant career at SNHU, and his expectations going into his final year of college basketball. For many of us, the word “college” conjures images of old brick buildings, studying on the quad, and lecture halls full of students fervently scribbling notes and engaging in debate. But at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), the entire idea of college—and how we define success there—has been flipped on its head. While four thousand students learn on-site at the school's campus, a whopping 180,000 more study completely online. The school's innovative approach speaks to its own leadership as much as the societal challenges, and opportunities, that we face today. As a result, SNHU has been named, among other accolades, as #12 on Fast Company magazine's “World's Fifty Most Innovative Companies” list. SNHU has succeeded in part because it recognizes that many—if not most—students today face a series of modern obstacles: they work part-time or full-time jobs with erratic schedules, face financial barriers which prevent them from attending more traditional colleges, and often have no realistic path to college straight from high school. In this episode of Deciding Factors, we welcome the President of SNHU, Dr. Paul LeBlanc, for an illuminating and wide-reaching conversation about higher ed in America, and how to make it attainable for everyone. Paul joined SNHU twenty years ago after a seven-year stint as the President of Marlboro College in Vermont. In addition to his work creating and leading toward a new version for the university, he is the author of several best-selling books, including “Broken: How Our Social Systems Are Failing Us and How We Can Fix Them.” Listen along as Paul explains what makes SNHU's approach different from other models of higher ed, how it embraces data to ensure quality in the courses it offers, and how AI's potential impact on the work force could change our expectations around higher education.

Southern New Hampshire University is well known for innovation in online learning, so it may surprise you to learn that prior to the pandemic, the institution had less than 100 employees working remotely, and had only just begun building out its remote work policies. Employee culture was largely reliant on working in a face-to-face environment. But in March 2020, the abrupt shift to fully remote work required a new approach to employee engagement. We spoke with Jennifer LaFountain, director of employee experience at SNHU, about how the institution is developing a culture that allows employees to feel connected no matter where they are located.
