ANTRA GETZOFF & MARIA ENSEBELLA discuss the healing power of cryotherapy and their new book, “Reinventing Cool: How to Make COLD Your Best Ally Against Inflammation, Pain and Aging,” in which they  explain the science behind why modern-day whole-body cryotherapy is not like ‘an ice bath on steroids' and just why it really is the best option for your health.   Antra Getzoff, born and schooled in Latvia, has been a cryotherapy & wellness entrepreneur for more than 13 years of her diverse career in business.   Like most cryotherapy aficionados, she first discovered the power of cold on her own body, finding stress relief, energy boost and sleep improvement in the difficult times of running a 250-people company through the 2008 financial crisis.   In 2018, Antra founded the International Alliance for Cryotherapy Professionals (CryoProsUnited) – an industry-unifying resource and training platform and community that soon grew to several thousand members worldwide. Reborn into GetResultsCo, her company keeps educating cryotherapy providers and promoting the best practices in the industry. She is also a Vice-Chair of the Global Wellness Institute Cryotherapy Initiative.   Maria Ensabella had always had a keen eye for health and fitness; actually, more aesthetics and fitness than health. Weight training, marathons, yoga, boxing etc.   At the heart of her journey was the amazing concept of Cryotherapy, the centerpiece of her life, and the backbone of her health optimisation and wealth accumulation.   While visiting New York City, Maria was introduced to Whole Body Cryotherapy and decided to research it and try out a session; it felt amazing, like a million bucks. The positive experience with Cryotherapy led to trying further sessions in Melbourne and Sydney, again resulting in amazing results, Maria felt like she was walking on air. So, upon her return to London, she was disappointed to discover that this renewing therapy was simply not accessible. She immediately quit her job and decided to establish a clinic where others could enjoy the numerous benefits of this rejuvenating therapy. It was a huge risk, but one worth taking and so, LondonCryo was born.   In their book they also describes unique client case studies and little-known scientific research.

84: Why I Quit Alcohol & Started Cold Therapy - Ciaran Flanagan

The Primal Shift

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 12, 2025 41:19

For Ciaran Flanagan, quitting alcohol wasn't about having hit rock bottom — it was about realizing just how much better life could be without it. Like a lot of people growing up in Ireland, drinking was part of the culture he grew up in. He wasn't an alcoholic, but he found himself caught in the same cycle so many people fall into: weekend drinking that derailed his focus, energy, and productivity for days. But after a month without alcohol, everything changed. His brain fog lifted, his sleep scores shot up, and he had more drive than ever before. And once he saw the difference, there was no going back. Flanagan is the founder of Inergize Health, a seven-figure wellness brand that's redefining recovery with portable cold plunge therapy. In this episode, we talk about how dropping alcohol wasn't just a health decision, but a complete shift in how he approached performance, recovery and resilience. That shift led him to cold plunging and breathwork, two powerful tools that helped him replace the false boost of alcohol with mental clarity, emotional stability, and sharper focus.  He shares why he prefers cold plunging after workouts and before bed, the science behind the dopamine and norepinephrine response, and how head-dunking triggers the mammalian dive reflex to boost cognitive function. We also dig into breathwork, including why it's one of the simplest yet most overlooked tools for managing stress and sharpening focus. Like cold exposure, breathwork forces you into presence, training you to handle discomfort instead of running from it. And when you stack these practices, the results are undeniable. Healing the Body: A Guided Meditation for Self-Healing

Your body is designed to heal. Science has proven that the mind and body are deeply connected, and through the power of breath, visualization, and intention, you can activate your body's natural healing abilities. In this guided meditation, you'll be led through a practice that combines imagination, breathwork, and intention—helping you align with your body's innate wisdom to restore balance and vitality. Many studies on the placebo effect have shown that belief alone can trigger real physiological healing. Your thoughts influence your biology, and by engaging in this meditation, you're not just relaxing—you're sending signals to your body to repair and regenerate. Whether you're recovering from an illness, feeling stress manifest in your body, or simply wanting to feel more vibrant, this meditation will help you create the inner environment for healing to occur. Beyond the Meditation: Practical Steps for Healing Breathwork for Nervous System Regulation Studies show that deep, slow breathing (such as coherent breathing at 5-6 breaths per minute) activates the vagus nerve, reducing inflammation and supporting healing. Try: Inhale for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds for 5 minutes daily to shift into a parasympathetic (healing) state. Visualizing Your Cells Healing Research in psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) suggests that guided imagery can enhance immune response. Try: Before bed, picture your cells glowing with health, repairing, and renewing—your brain cannot distinguish between real and vividly imagined experiences. Grounding with Nature Studies on earthing (walking barefoot on the earth) show it reduces cortisol and inflammation. Try: Spend 15-30 minutes outside daily, barefoot if possible, to reduce stress and promote healing. Hydration & Structured Water Dr. Masaru Emoto's water studies suggest that intention influences water structure—and since we are mostly water, our thoughts affect our biology. Try: Drink a glass of water infused with intention, mentally affirming health and renewal before you sip. Cold Exposure for Cellular Repair Cold therapy activates brown fat, reduces inflammation, and boosts resilience (Wim Hof Method research). Try: End your shower with 30 seconds of cold water to stimulate circulation and healing. Journal Prompt for Reflection "If my body could speak to me right now, what would it say it needs?" Take a moment to tune in and write freely. Let your body's wisdom come through. You may receive unexpected insights. Final Thought: Healing is a journey of both science and belief. By combining breath, visualization, movement, and conscious intention, you can become an active participant in your own healing process. Let this meditation be the start of a new relationship with your body—one built on trust, gratitude, and the knowing that you are capable of deep transformation. Most people go through life never realizing how good they could actually feel. And when David Maus jumped into an icy river for the first time, he had no idea he was starting a routine that would help him break free from depression, brain fog, and the daily grind that was weighing him down.  Maus is now a health and wellness advocate who left a successful career in the automotive industry to pursue his passion for optimizing human performance. Once a high-level executive, he found himself struggling with low energy and creeping health issues, despite following conventional wisdom. In this episode, we explore how embracing cold exposure caused a pivotal shift in his life, and why it's one of the most underrated tools for mental clarity, stress resilience, and long-term well-being. We also dive into the broader picture of modern health, including how our conveniences —  from temperature-controlled homes to plastic-filled diets — have disconnected us from our primal roots.  Maus shares his transition from running multiple car dealerships to immersing himself in a lifestyle built on movement, natural rhythms and ancestral principles. Along the way, we discuss the real impact of sleep, morning sun exposure, and grounding, as well as the hidden dangers of blindly trusting mainstream health narratives. If you've ever wondered whether you're missing something crucial in your routine, or if you're just starting your health journey and don't know where to begin, this episode is packed with insights that can help you take that next step. Welcome to the Triple P Life Podcast! In this episode, host Dr. Jay LaGuardia delves into the root causes of America's escalating health crisis. Dr. Jay emphasizes that this is not a political issue, but a human one, focusing on the alarming statistics surrounding chronic disease, declining life expectancy, and the exorbitant cost of sick care in the US. He highlights the broken food system, sedentary lifestyles, sleep deprivation, environmental toxins, and the lack of preventative medicine as key contributing factors. The episode introduces a three-part series aimed at empowering listeners to take control of their health.  This first part lays the groundwork by exploring the shocking decline in overall health and then offers actionable steps, or "health hacks," including nutrition, strength training, sleep optimization, hormone optimization, and mindset, to begin reversing these trends and achieving optimal well-being. Dr. Jay emphasizes the importance of making incremental changes and provides a "10x Revitalizing Health and Hormone Roadmap" to guide listeners on their journey to better health.   Episode Takeaways: The US healthcare system is broken: Despite massive spending, America's health outcomes are among the worst in developed nations, highlighting a need for a shift from sick care to preventative care. Lifestyle choices significantly impact health: Diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management are crucial for well-being and can help reverse the trends of chronic disease. Environmental factors play a major role: Toxins in food, products, and the environment, along with EMFs, disrupt hormones and contribute to health problems. Small changes can lead to big results: Focusing on fundamental health principles, like whole foods, protein, and resistance training, can create a foundation for optimal health. Mindset and community are essential for well-being: Cultivating gratitude, embracing challenges, and fostering strong social connections contribute to overall health and happiness.   Chapters: 00:00 - Introduction and Health Crisis Overview 03:45 - America's Health Expenditure and Outcomes 07:30 - Understanding the Root Causes of Health Issues 11:15 - The State of Health in America: Shocking Statistics 15:00 - The Impact of Lifestyle Choices on Health 18:45 - Addressing Chronic Disease and Metabolic Dysfunction 22:30 - The Role of Nutrition in Health and Longevity 26:15 - Importance of Physical Activity and Resistance Training 30:00 - Sleep, Stress, and Environmental Factors 33:45 - The Need for Preventative Medicine 37:30 - Proven Health Hacks for Immediate Implementation 41:00 - Hormone Optimization and Peptide Therapy 44:45 - Cold Exposure and Sauna Benefits 48:00 - Mindset, Gratitude, and Mental Resilience 51:30 - Conclusion and Call to Action Find all things Triple P Life by visiting the website. Send us a textEveryone is on their unique path to healing. While there are many things we can gain from others' journeys, every journey is ultimately different, so it is important to find the path that works for you. Jesse Harless came to terms with this realization once he was introduced to what some may view as an unconventional form of healing, cold exposure, and plant medicine. What he didn't understand at first slowly became the thing to lower his extreme anxiety and keep him going on his path to healing. This week's episode 290 of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast is about connection, cold exposure, and plant medicine! In this episode of the Fragmented to Whole Podcast, Jesse Harless shares his profound journey from being born into addiction to his journey to recovery through focusing on the 12 steps, physical fitness, and nervous system regulation. Some of the talking points Jesse and I go over in this episode include:Jesse's build up of addiction over time and the breaking point that ultimately forced him into recovery. The crucial role that connection played in Jesse's recovery, from finding a mentor and therapist to building meaningful relationships within 12-step fellowships. How cold therapy has helped regulate his nervous system and build resilience. Jesse's approach to researching and incorporating psychedelic-assisted therapy into his recovery plan. When it comes to your own healing journey, trust your own heart, trust your own path and see what works for you, and then study the people who have gone before as guides to see if that serves you.Are you saying yes when you really want to say no? Are you putting yourself last? Perhaps you're the consummate accommodator whose people-pleasing ways are wearing you out.
