Look, sometimes we get things wrong. Ok, we get things wrong all the time. But we were very surprised Dave Bond didn't go deeper, as we say goodbye to him on Monday and hello to Bill McKinley and Ashley Chan, who both have a nice week. And we have a nice week too, as John coordinates a Jeopardy! surprise for his Blocked Party cohost Stefan Heck, J! continues their run of Final Jeopardy clues that swing wildly from quite difficult to dead easy, and Emily is really, really committed to getting out of PE. Plus, we dive deep on "I Dream of Jeannie" and its creator, Sidney Sheldon. SOURCE: Forbes: "'I Dream of Jeannie' Home, A Jim Beam Whiskey Bottle, Expected to Fetch $100,000 At Auction" by Roberta Naas; New York Times: "Sidney Sheldon, Author of Steamy Novels, Dies at 89" by Margalit Fox Special thank you as always to the J-Archive and The Jeopardy! Fan. This episode is produced by Producer Dan. Music by Nate Heller. Art by Max Wittert.
John is back and we have an absolutely fantastic of week of games, as we fall in love with Evan Jones and then fall in love all over again once Stevie Ruiz is introduced. And by the end of the week, it's Bond, Dave Bond, who runs roughshod over the competition and looks like a potential ToC contender while giving us another contender for Response of the Year. Plus, we get an anecdote that makes us feel stupider than some of the clues do, Jeopardy! fans can't believe a clue uses the word boob, and we dive deep on the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who apparently might have been a real guy (???). Meet Dave Bond, a remarkable Producer/DJ who hails from the UK. His journey into the world of music is a testament to his resilience and unwavering passion. When faced with a broken leg, he decided to make the most of the situation by diving headfirst into the art of DJing. Armed with a set of 1210's and Serato, he defied his circumstances and honed his craft from the floor. His musical odyssey began with trance, but life took him on a detour. Upon his return, he delved into the realms of tech house and techno, sculpting a sound uniquely his own. This dedication paid off when he achieved a significant milestone – his first track signed and released in 2018. London's dynamic club scene embraced him, offering stages that included the legendary Ministry Of Sound. His remixing talents shone in competitions for esteemed labels like Pure Dope Digital, PDD Tamed, and Future Techno Records. With each project, Dave Bond's production finesse evolved, a testament to his commitment to his craft. His releases found homes on renowned labels such as Red Channel Records, Future Techno Records, and more, showcasing the breadth of his sonic palette. As a featured guest on Dance FM Romania's Selectro show, Dave Bond is poised to cast his spell with trademark style and captivating beats. Get ready to be mesmerized by the sound of resilience and passion coming together in a musical journey like no other.

This week we had the opportunity to go to the Oklahoma Counsel on Public Affairs to talk about some of the policy work they’re doing on education. The OCPA is an Oklahoma think tank committed to advancing principles and policies that support free enterprise, limited government, and individual initiative. Some of their work pertains to Oklahoma but most of our discussion has to do with the tensions over religion and education seen in things like the gender and bathroom disputes, whether or not Christian curriculum should be used in public schools, and the importance of school choice. In the beginning of our conversation, we talk about the difference between politics and policy, and I think you’ll start to hear why they have an interesting perspective on things like education, freedom, and being a Christian in America today. Their principles are not overtly Christian, but they do provide for a lot of Christian ideas and commitments to take root in our culture. You’ll hear a bunch of voices on this episode – and because of that there are some places where the quality is not quite as good as usual. Jonathan Small is the president of the OCPA. Dave Bond is the VP for Advocacy, the lobbying side of the organization Brandon Dutcher is a Senior VP and oversees a lot of their policy research. I learned a lot in this conversation, and I hope you all enjoy it.

How's this for a slice of fried gold? PICK A FLICK! tackles three (or should that be two?) modern classics this time around, with returning host Dave Bond (of Do You Expect Us to Talk?) joined by two show debutantes - Paul Hawkins (one half of the Blokebusters Podcast) and Andrew Dodderidge, in his first ever podcast experience - to talk the 'Cornetto Trilogy'. First, SHAUN OF THE DEAD--the first team up of old friends Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost--followed by HOT FUZZ, and finally THE WORLD'S END. Our trio examine each picture before theorising on what might make a good fourth Cornetto movie if they ever chose to make it. Dave also presents the results of a Twitter poll over what the best Cornetto film is - who reigns victorious. Join them and find out! Coca coooola! Lipstick ring! Dance all night! Dance all night! This is the way you like it as PICK A FLICK! explores music-themed movies with host Dave Bond (loaned from Do You Expect Us to Talk?) plus guests Stacey Taylor (she of the Pop Culture Parlour) and debutante on the show, Lee Grice. Nominated by Zack Lockwood, the trio take a close look at FRANK, the Lenny Abrahamson critically appreciated take on the Frank Sidebottom phenomenon, before exploring FOUR ROOMS--nominated by Pop Culture Rewind--all agreeing it may be the film Quentin Tarantino would like to forget! They also take in audience feedback on their favourite music-themed movies along the way. Plug in the Korg synthesizer and join them! WEEEEEE HAAAAAVE THE POWEEEEEEERRRRRR!!! Ahem. Excuse me for that, but for the latest episode of PICK A FLICK! hosted by Tony Black, it seemed appropriate. Joined this time by on-loan podcasters Dave Bond (of Do You Expect Us to Talk?) and in his first appearance on the show, Owen Hughes (of Failed Critics), they discuss variously Sean Connery, He-Man, toys and zombies. Nominated by Lee Chrimes, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE divides opinion - is it a load of rubbish or a fun slice of 80's popcorn kitsch? ZARDOZ, on the other hand, nominated by What the Craggus Saw, is agreed by all to be an extremely strange beast, but is John Boorman's 1974 oddity actually any good? Along the way, the trio talk childhood toys that became movies, before Owen attempts to take on the leaderboard in QUESTION TIME as he's tested on his chosen film, DAY OF THE DEAD. Join us, By the Power of Grayskull! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
No password required as this week we go down the rabbit hole of secret sexual societies, with a detour involving submarines thrown in. Tony Black hosts, joined by guests Chris Haigh and Dave Bond--on loan from his 007 podcast Do You Expect Us To Talk?--as they take on two more nominations. Firstly they tackle Stanley Kubrick's last picture, EYES WIDE SHUT, as nominated by The Comic Roast, and find themselves entranced yet distanced from a curious last salvo from the great man. They discuss, indeed, the FINAL FILMS OF GREAT DIRECTORS - between your Kubrick's, Hitchcock's, and Lumet's, who comes out top or falls to the bottom? Switching gears, Tony and Dave attempt to turn Chris on to CRIMSON TIDE, Tony Scott's 90's sea bound action thriller, which Chris hasn't had time to see. Will he be aboard this nomination by Jane Douglas-Jones or not? Finally, it's time for Chris to face QUESTION TIME and take on the leaderboard in a discussion of his chosen movie - can he reign supreme? Come on in!
