TCW Podcast Episode 232 - All the Other Home Pongs The home Pong market of the mid-1970s extended far beyond the big three—Atari, Coleco, and Magnavox. Numerous smaller companies entered the scene, not only in the United States but also across Europe and other parts of the world. As the home gaming industry rapidly evolved, many manufacturers introduced unique systems powered by integrated circuits. The market truly took off with the advent of “Pong-on-a-Chip” technology, which made it possible for virtually anyone to build a Pong console. Combined with affordable manufacturing in the Far East, this innovation drove costs down and helped the market reach new heights. Yes, there is news to talk too - some of it huge. Like a certain huge dragon. Huge fundraisers. Huge SDCC ecto-glow announcement. Two huge properties join forces (gotta build 'em all). One huge Shredder (bro lifts). But bigger than ALL of those, is the unexpected parcel of absolute joy sent by our favourite Canadian, the one and only Colin Betts. This has to be seen (heard?) to be believed. In spite of some truely awful postage costs, comes so many gifts filled with attention to detail, insight, humor and most importantly, love. Colin - a huge thank you!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We are a couple of members down today so yes, it's a Lisa episode. Scot and Frank take the wheel to look at a new Origins reveal, some Latest Scores (where Scot goes BIG) but mainly wax on/off about the finale of Cobra Kai. Did they stick the landing or sweep the leg? How was Anthony Mackie's first solo run as Captain America? Hoe tough is it to integrate two cats into the same space? All these un-expected questions and more await! Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; we have special guest DaveyDamaged join us yet again to round out the last episode for this year. Keeping in theme with this time of year; we start things off with our Annual Kris Kringle. We keep things so secret, we forget to name the gifts themselves! Then onto the final round of Patreon Questions. The stand-out being linked to the episode art- if we where famous actors - who would we would be? From the mind of Davey: Ben- Jackie Earle Haley; Trent- Jermaine Clement; Frank- Oscar Isaac & Scot- Mark Strong. Davey is kind of left officially unanswered. Who do you think would play him? Also; please don't zoom in on the cover art as it may give you nightmares! Overall heaps of laughs. Merry Christmas to you all! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; we have special guest DaveyDamaged join us in studio to boost up the antics & derail our otherwise PG rated episode. Starting things off, Ben has a very scary - very Australian story about an uninvited guest entering his Toyroom.... Then we change gears and celebrate something exciting; the HasLab Ecto-1 Vehicle has smashed it's goal & is now a guarantee for all those that backed it! Then we get into the main segment of this episode; which is entirely made up from Patreon Questions - with specific request, to try & make them non-toy related. Yeah, this is a great opportunity to get-to-know us more, and find out how we tick. This was a really fun episode, and we hope you come out of this knowing us a bit better. Enjoy! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; instead of coming up with a witty & ground-breaking new segment; we decide to actually go back & finish off some of the older segments that we have started. So this round we each have a Top 5 selection of Heroic Toy Beasts & Vehicles that had a release in the 70's & 80's. We come up with a very diverse list; even with some questionable nominations too! Then; in keeping with this episodes theme, we look back at the Films we initially shouted out for 2024: & do a round table review on what we actually thought on them. Surprising that collectively there are many we still haven't seen! But as always, some are clear standouts over others! All this & more. Enjoy! This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; Scot comes up with a new segment - taking inspiration of the Perfect style Team; built up from a bunch of elite characters. First round in this discussion is all centred round the Vintage Masters Of The Universe - Heroic Warriors! We take careful steps to narrow down our specialists; and also select an iconic Vehicle too! Then we have a welcomed gift from Morgan, with a little something for each of us. Rounding out the ep, is a very causal chat around the Silly Season. What do we each have planned, and how are we likely to celebrate?! Another fun episode. Enjoy.Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; we find out why Ben doesn't do the intros very often.... So without Trent; the show must go on! We have lots of cool News to chat towards - including yet another New Batman Figure from McFarlane; plus a Variation of Swamp Thing; and a combat ready, Black Light Charged Violator! Then we discuss one of the Exclusives from Designer-Con - the absolutely incredible Anti-Eternia Battle Cat - with an equally large price tag too. Naughty Mattel, Wicked Disney; but long-live Porn!?!? More exciting reveals from Joy Toys & the reveal of Super Shredder from Mondo. But Mondo also reveal a New vinyl figure too, that looks JAWSOME! A very strong wave from Legions Con announced known as the Reign of the Beasts; plus a Giant Dragon that is simply incredible! Rounding out the ep we do a Recap of the latest Radical Rewind, that showcased the Classic Jurassic Park Film! With highlights of a themed display, Cosplay & just a really well made Film too that still holds up darn well!! All this and more, Enjoy! This week on The Toy Power Podcast, we are feeling the build-up of the festival season; and must record on a School Night! Trent had far too much homework, so its just a trio recording this round. We touch-on the latest news topics that are hitting our radar; which include a Tully Take-over from the Ghostbusters team. Justice League Task Force build their team up, & more unique Star Wars characters that are kind of neat. Marvel Legends, Toxic Crusaders, Space Godzilla, plus more Ben Cooper inspired kids too! A run-down from Ben around the niche custom efforts of Fans in the Battle Beasts community; with some announcements from TFCon. Studio 86'Constructions are deconstructed on the when, what & price tags. Then we share immense joy towards the Adelaide Christmas Pageant event!! Rounding out the ep we chat about our Latest Scores. This week on The Toy Power Podcast, with Halloween still fresh in our minds, we invite DoesTEN back on the show to give us a great insight on how the American's Celebrate this famous Halloween event. Including some neat stories from his youth. Then keeping with that similar scarry topic, we embark on creating a Top 10 list, detailing some of the more questionable Horror Themed Toys that where marketed to Kids (pre 2000). Some of them derive from Horror Films of the same name, and others are stand-alone properties that have Horror themes. We absolutely must give Swamp Thing a shout-out too as he has been depicted in some quite mature Comicbook story lines too. Did we miss anything, please let us know!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New York NEW YORK - it's a wonderful towwwwwwn! As NYCC 2024 comes to close, we begin to open our collective wallets. There's something for everyone from Kryptonians, Latvreian Rulers, Spectral Catchers, Big Rubber Guys, X-Hunters and even more Mutated Adolescents. Too cryptic? It shouldn't be cause if you love this stuff like we do, you already know what I'm talking about! Time to make Fry say the thing! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we bring a bunch of Toys into the recording studio and promote what we have got to each other. Ben brings in some Beast Saga figs, Trent gets pretty excited with his new found action feature discoveries, Scott has a toy that he has been chasing for ages & Frank has something that is just awesome! All this and some stories to fill an hour of banter.Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
After a week off, we've got tales from two of our favourite events: Adelaide Toy and Comic Fair and Radical Rewind Presents: Goonies. There's mixed opinions on Goonies but its ok cause we all have alcohol to drink, right? Then it's Talkin' Bout Toy Fair with all interactions, tales, special guests and some very special pick-ups to talk too. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Special Guest: Craig Goldberg just us! Well known on the Toy Anxiety Podcast as well as the greater "YHS" Community! We run Craig through the standard initiation questions, with his answers heading towards his passion towards Sports Stars and defending Movie Sequels... Then we get into a bit of a round trouble discussion about our own 'State Of The Nation.' Where are we at with our Toy Collecting habits & what might be on the horizon? Plus some fun reflection stories from the past too; (or two?). A little bit of Hot Toys banter; with a name drop of a potential on-par competitor company by the name of Jazzinc Dioramas - their Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman is outstanding! We question- who and what is a Matt Bush?! Then we get the low down on just how YHS began, but also their impressive involvement in all things Ghostbusters related; - including some involvement with the new films!! Then we do another round table segment of Latest Scores otherwise known as Pick-ups! Find more from Craig on: The Toy Anxiety Podcast as well as the YHS (Yes Have Some) Podcast too!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today we have a bit of everything. There's some cool cool reveals to chat through including Secret Wars, deep cut Batman 66 and The Loyal Subjects big announcement. Another great kickstarter to spend monies on and the always awesome Radical Rewind event to recap. Then its present time as we get a care package from the legend Tealo! We attended a Toy Store grand opening and while it was amazing, it was also the source of some Toy Power controversy - one of the team has some explaining to do! In this special Toy Power episode we are joined by author Paul Flavel. He's just released an amazing new book called John Martin's: The Story of South Australia's Beloved Department Store, which has been over 5 years in the making. We chat about many amazing memories of this beloved South Australian department store, from the incredible toy department (largest in the Southern hemisphere, that's a fact, Jack) to the indispensable Eliza's cafeteria (where the malt for your milkshake is always available), through to the Christmas pageant and the undisputed home of Father Christmas. If you have a love for this beloved SA retailer, do yourself a favour and check it out at https://www.johnmartinsbook.com (print run 1 is selling fast). You can curl up with your Marty bear and a cup of coffee from Eliza's and enjoy this beautiful book that so beautifully captures an important part of our State (and Australian) retail history. Darren, this one's for you buddy!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have Matt Teale back, to join us for another fun episode. But first, Matt would like to promote his upcoming journey in the "Shitbox Rally". Which translated into driving through Australia, across some very formidable roads. Matt & co-driver Chris aka Darstardly & Muttley, will be embarking on this journey next year, and is looking for donations, in a campaign for the Cancer Council. (Link bellow.) Then we jump into our Main Topic, which is another Best-Of-Voting crusade; this time all based around the Toy Heroes released from the 70's & 80's. We each have 5 votes each, with rules of no double-ups and no calling out the same character each from a franchise. This is another great run-down and suprisingly diverse too. With an extra voter on the pannel this round, its not suprising we have a few double-ups, but thankfully we have some secondary fall back choices. Rounding out the ep, we run out of time for a proper Latest scores chat, but there is a suprise for Frank that he opens on air. This week on the Toy Power Podcast we have Special Guest Colin Betts, back to help us cover the very underrated 1988 Hasbro Toyline; that was COPS N' Crooks! Central Organisation of Police Specialists (against the) Committed Rough Offenders Obstructing Cops & Society! Set in Empire City; in the year 2020. These toys sporting O'rings & completely unique sculpts. With an overall manufactured run of 29 unique Figures and 9 Futuristic Vehicles; assisted with a 65 episode Cartoon run! Plus a 15 issue Comic-Book run by DC. All these Figures & Vehicles featured a Cap-Firing Action Feature in some way shape or form. With ties not just to G.I Joe, but also maybe Gotham City as well?!? Utilising the amazing collection of ToyFair Catalogues for Colin's Collection - we analyze each year of the Toyline & what was released. We also touch on the Unreleased 3rd Year of Figures - that would have maybe seen 7 New Cops & potentially 5 New Crooks Figures.... Enter in The Clowns as well as The Great Felloni?!?! Then we Transform into an exciting segment; in which Colin promotes his upcoming Panel for TF Nation in UK; which he plans on talking about the first 2 years of Transformers in the Catalogues from different variations around the World! Rounding out; we have a very spoiler free review of the new Deadpool / Wolverine Film! Enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Merrrrrry SDCC! It's that time of year where we constantly refresh our phones to see what new joys our fave companies bring us. With Scot being at the Con itself, we roped in our mate Colin Betts to assist in getting through our biggest runsheet ever! Was also have our first ever gatecrasher... The reveals are vast and many and even in just over 2 hours, we STILL didn't get to them all! Who won the Con in our eyes? How many Shut-up and Take My Money's can we cram into one episode? All this and much much more awaits! Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have special guest Criss Fresh back to join us for another fun new segment. This round we each pick a multi-year spanning Vintage Toyline & then narrow it down to what wee each personally believe was it's best year. Spinning out of the choices are: Frank picks: 1986 Hasbro G1 Transformers. Fresh goes with: 1990 Hasbro WWF. Ben leans on his nostalgia & brings back all the memories of 1989 Playmates TMNT. Then Trent decides to chat about the 1988 Kenner Real Ghostbusters Toyline. With each of our choices, we look at what was released during that period and how it compared to the rest of the Toylines Run. This was a lot of fun to analyse. Then we round out the with a classic Latest Scores chat. Enjoy!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we have special guest: Jay Harps join us, to school us on all things Dungeons & Dragons. With the usual get-to-know-you questions; then into a chat on all things D&D related. Where to start, where to play & where to seek assistance. Then we Roll The Dice, as Jay transforms into his Dungeon Master Form! Trent portrays Fugitoid, Frank a witty and Charming Hero & Ben naturally takes on the form of Shredder! Jay has a genuinely fun Trek cooked up for us, for our characters as we embark on traveling from the discarded Toy Bin to greater Hight's on the Toy Shelves! With the assistance of some fantastical characters & enemies on the way! Plus a surprise in-house guest thanks to Scot. So join us as we play D&D for the first time on TPP! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we have a lot of News announcements to get through! Kicking off with Star Wars, & then moving to the Brothers from the Sewers. McFarlane Super Powers gets a Boost, & the Wesayso Dinosaur from Neca. Somewhere its Crime Fighting Time; before we cover the Marvel Legends Reveals! Snake Cobra Commander & Easy Rider Maul rounding out the reveals. Playing out the episode, Frank shows off his New Lego build! This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we are each given a tasked of calling out Five iconic Toy Villains. But we have placed some ground rules down, and narrowed the window of this rounds Evil Doers release dates to the years between 1970 & 1989. With the four of us in the room each voting; we will ultimately form the Toy Power Top Twenty Villains! This is a lot harder than one may think.... Do we let Nostalgia take-over our choices? Or do we have other methods in mind...? When push comes to shove, our individual choices might surprise a few people & our decisions are quite diverse! Then; rounding out the ep, we have a entertaining chat around the Reading, Watching, Playing. Enjoy!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast we have our very knowledgeable Guest: Floppy; back in studio with some proper get-to-know-you Questions. Then we MASK-UP as we sing our way into the mid-eighties Toyline that was M.A.S.K. from Kenner. We each pick out a standout release from each wave. This is incredibly fun, as some of us in the room aren't as familiar with the Toyline as others. This is where Floppy's general passion for this property really comes though! Then rounding out the ep, we have a unique un-boxing to do - with an in-hand Ramen Toys - Makina Labs - Red Gullwing. How does it compare to it's eighties counterpart? Credit to the Band: Punk Rock Factory - for the cover version of the M.A.S.K. intro played in this episode. This week on the Toy Power Podcast we have a very special guest join us; Mr. Floppy Starick! (more about him next episode...) Straight into the news, we have Darkseid unveiled in a MegaFig sized offering! The Famous Vincent Price is remade in plastic form from Neca, and captures him throughout his career. Mondo reveal a new line of Sofubi style TMNT and that has us all quite impressed! The Great Deku Tree, from Zelda is announced from Lego - but do we see value for money here? Super Shogun Metallic Mecha-Godzilla, now sporting 'Space Titanium' is certainly an upgrade to their previous release. Marvel Legends 3pk: The Cabal sports some wicked Villains & we are rather impressed by the news of Marvel X McFarlane statues depicting famous Comic covers. Then, we switch gears, & review what happened & what we saw, plus scored from the Adelaide Mega Toy Fair event! It's the other (better?) half of our fave Canadian duo - Jay Bartlett! He's here to talk about the upcoming release of N64 Quest, the highly anticipated sequel to the much loved Nintendo Quest. What are the rules this time around? Time crunch, budget pressure - how does Jay handle it? We've been granted special access to watch the first ep - no spoilers here but oh boy, we are in for a treat. We then end up talking about N64 memories, retro gaming in general and the prices of figures is just too damn high! Follow Jay in all his retro glory and N64 Quest for more details. This week on the Toy Power Podcast, we are back to exploring all the Toy News that has hit our radar. Kicking things off, we are back on the McFarlane bandwagon with a 3pk Super Powers Batman set. New style 66' Batman figures. More offerings from Trick Or Treat Studios - with the offering of Dr. Killemoff, with a neat action feature! Hotwheels offers up a 1/64 Transforming Optimus Prime - but the price is at a Decpeticon level. New announcements from the most recent Transformers Live Stream - Studio Series 86; plus an old favourite out of the Marvel Comicbook run! Storm Collectables announce the 2nd Gatchaman character in their line-up - in the from of Jun the Swan. Finally Extandar has made it into the Origins line-up; and Mondo try their hand at Cartoon Turtles.... but just how successful do they look? Then we transition back to 1991 - as we review the most recent Radical Rewind screening of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Trent has some recordings from the night itself; and we chat about the overall sell-out event itself. One of the coolest benefits of being a content creator is having the opportunity to actually speak with some of the key figures who laid the foundation of the video game industry, and my guest for this video is without a doubt one of those individuals. He was there in the very early days of Activision when they were forging new ground as the first third-party game developer for Atari and later others, he is the wizard behind such successful titles as Keystone Kapers, Pressure Cooker, and Coleco's Donkey Kong, and is still blazing that trail today with other Activision alumni over at Audacity Games. In this interview, Garry Kitchen sets the record straight on the urban legend that Coleco intentionally designed the Atari 2600 port of Donkey Kong to make the ColecoVision version look that much more superior.
