Today's ADHD friend is Dave Cottrell, otherwise known as MindsetbyDave. Dave is an award winning mindfulness coach and mental health educator. In this episode we discuss the importance of building a bridge for yourself, seeing the good in yourself, taking breaks when needed, and so much more. On a personal note, I consider Dave to be a close friend of mine as he leads by the incredible example he sets for so many out there that are part of his community. Dave is compassionate towards all mental health issues, he is an extremely hard worker, and simply put, a kick ass human being. It is for these reasons it is an honor to once again say... Lived Experience Education with Mindset By Dave Untapped Keg Ep 146The conversation of mental health has never been more full of misinformation and outdated methods. In this episode, Rosie chats to Dave Cottrell (aka Mindset by Dave) who is a content creator, mindset coach and fellow podcaster! Dave talks about his journey into becoming a Mindset Coach and Mental Health Educator, and his previous work in challenging the stigma, including in schools. The main focus of the podcast however, is around Dave's upcoming fundraiser and mental health marathon. Instead of running a marathon of miles, Mindset By Dave is hosting a marathon of mental health interviews. A 36-hour stream with 36 different guests. All streamed live via Twitch, raising mental health awareness as well as vital funds for Safe In Our World. We talk about the stigma of mental health challenges vs physical challenges, how we can listen to ourselves to provide the best self care that we can, and promote positive mental health whilst challenging ourselves. I speak with mindset coach Dave Cottrell. Dave shares with us his journey in to becoming a mindset coach before diving in to various topics of mindset including self-compassion, mindfulness, metacognition, acceptance, patience, and much more! Like never before have we needed tools to help navigate ourselves from a rapidly changing world.
Dave Cottrell, Mental Health and Mindset Coach, joins us for an open and honest exploration of mental health issues, the raging tribalism we are seeing today, and anxieties worsened by the COVID-19 crisis. Recorded 20th June 2020. Dave is uniquely positioned to have this conversation. Suffering with Bipolar, a menacing mental condition, since his teens, he has experienced the deepest darkest times followed by mania on an infinite loop for over half his life. Luckily his attempt on his life wasn’t successful, as we are all blessed with his deep empathy, insight and wisdom when it comes to navigating mental health and modern life in general. He’s hung up his nutrition and PT hat to dedicate his energy into unique and deeply caring services of mindset and mental health coaching. We seem more divided and more anxious than ever before. There’s tons of passion, care and energy in the world, but joined with lots naivety, vulnerability, aggression and tribalism. This dark energy is reaching its crescendo with the COVID-19 Pandemic, Lockdown and government responses. But so much has lead to this point - Brexit, UK General Election, Trump Administration, Race Inequality, Veganism, Climate Change. The thing is, much of this energy and fighting would not be possible without social media. We would be otherwise blind to all our differences. The problem is, a huge part of our ability to live long and well depends on our Strong Social Bonds, Community and Optimism. We’re hurting our health and our civilisation - this issue needs attention. In this episode we attempt to bring these issues to the fore, whilst also making it a practical conversation for the listeners. We explore bipolar, mental health issues at large, the root causes, tribalism, the death of the friendly debate, social media, COVID anxieties and how to expand your comfort zone. How often do you challenge your comfort zone, and should you? Lockdown has spurred many interesting conversations, and today is one of those. As people have stayed at home for a long time now, how will that effect us mentally? Have our comfort zones now diminished? Are we aware of it? Are we stronger as a result of Lockdown, or has the fear weakened us? Are we anxious? The 2nd part of this show looks at compartmentalising different emotions so it doesn't take over your whole life, after all, should something like grief change you as a person, or just change part of you as a result of a life event? Dave and I also share our personal approach to managing lockdown so we stayed mentally strong. Join us as we go down a complex mindset rabbit hole, but one crucial to peoples future mental health. Check out Dave online @MindsetByDave

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's edition of the podcast. What an episode I've got for you this week. It's VE Day and that means the country is off work, celebrating the achievements of those who fought in the Second World War and were victorious. But it's another victory we're focussing on today and one that's much more relevant to the current crisis. Les Howkins is course manager at The Richmond in London, he's also a Master Greenkeeper and many of you will know him as the former chairman of the association, preceding Scott Reeves. What many of you may not know is that we almost lost Les. Although he was never tested positive, Les almost certainly contracted coronavirus and spent weeks in bed, with paramedics called out to his house when his situation worsened. It's a scary story but a reminder of just how serious this virus can be. I think you'll be shocked at some of the things Les has to say. Afterwards, we've got last Thursday's Continue to Learn Extra session with Dave Cottrell. Stress is the one area of mental health that we all experience and it comes in many forms. Stress in and of itself is actually a path to growth and some stress (providing we recover from it effectively) can make us stronger. However the vast majority of us cope with stress in the wrong ways, either by taking too much in, relieving it with unhelpful methods or a bit of both. In this talk Dave discusses the "work/recovery" model and how this can help us to stop that stress from ever reaching boiling point! As always, this podcast is presented ad free thanks to the support of BIGGA members and if you've got any feedback or suggestions for topics and conversations, please feel free to get in touch. This episode evolved out of several others. The three audio contributions I received were placed under different headings. Then I received the anonymous contribution and it seemed to tie things together; hence “Honesty”. I can’t think of anyone who I’ve spoken to since this pandemic started who hasn’t had to change the way they think or operate. We hear from a pub landlord (who’s now become a virtual pub landlord and is supporting the community while considering the impact on his business (If you’re looking for a virtual pub try https://www.facebook.com/virtualbrookinn/ ), a retired gentleman, a mindset coach (who talks about the impact on his clients and his own mental health) and one who feels lonely as the remaining non-furloughed member of staff in a manufacturing business. Today I am joined by Dave Cottrell from Mindset by Dave who is a coach, speaker, podcaster and mental health advocate (he's also a Dad himself). Mindset is a hot topic these days, particularly in a society where bad news sells and people are torn down rather than build up. Staying positive, optimistic and upbeat is challenging but not important in this environment and there is a myriad of techniques you can use to your advantage. Dave and I discuss, the flawed way we think about ourselves as human beings, tactics you can employ today to make change, and a ton of resources to educate yourself on this subject. Mick Coyle and Jake Mills discuss Dave Cottrell’s “pay it forward” idea raised in this week’s Mental Health Monday. We take a look at how doing small things within your community can make a real difference to your wellbeing. Also on the agenda, we look at new figures from the NSPCC that suggest the numbers of young girls self harming is on the rise. And we find another example of a footballer whose story extends way beyond the football pitch. As heard on Radio City Talk, Tuesday 7th August 2018. Find mental health services near you via www.hubofhope.co.uk.
Mick was joined by Dave Cottrell, a personal trainer and mind coach, who tries to bring elements of both when he is working with people. Dave has had his own battles - he was bullied at school, was overweight at 23 stone and he also lives with type 2 bipolar. He told Mick about his journey and how he is on a mission to change a life a day. Plus, former Everton prospect George Green has been telling Mental Health Monday how his battle with drink and drugs took him to the brink and how he now wants to help others battling their own demons.
