Caught between being to liberal on the one hand and overly authoritarian on the other parents are beginning to ask if there is another way. On my conversation with Anthony we delve into: How he discovered peaceful parenting 20 years ago and why the non-aggression principle revolutionised his parenting. The differences between authoritative parenting and permissive parenting and why both of these types of parenting are abusive in different ways. Why using fear as a method of control means that when children grow into adulthood this will be normalised as a way others can influence their behaviour. They hypocrisy around parents telling children not to hit and how they then go to use violence as a means to compliance. Why focussing on what you kids to right rather than criticising and nit picking all the time grows their confidence.

Why specific podcasts that empower people are very counter to the victimhood narrative parroted in the mainstream media. Role models and how our children will earn money in the future very differently to us. The importance of going on adventures with our children that they will remember. Rates of male suicide are still high and the challenge of how to address mental health problems in men prevail. But what if we were to take a different and unique approach as to how we address the difficulties men face? One that is specific to the needs of men? Why men are drawn towards methods of therapy that are more solution based and rational rather than going continuously over their feelings. The problem of psychologists trying to blame and train masculinity out of men. Gamma Bias and how it highlights the accolades of women whilst ignoring the same achievements of men. I discuss with Greg Just how organisations, influencers and those in the public look closely at the kind of lifestyle behaviours we want to reward How Greg and I share the experience of having lost a relative to chronic disease and why this shapes how we look at the "dad bod" discussion. Why caring for your body is so much more than just aesthetics and really is a health and longevity issue. How many men want to break out, do better and fall into the trap of life just happening to them The challenges and skills he uses to bring up boys in a culture where masculinity is under attack from some quarters.

Today I speak to photographer, film maker, author and philosopher Sean Tucker about his new book The Meaning in The Making (The How and Why Behind Our Human Need to Create) We all like to make stuff and there is nothing like the satisfaction of sitting back and admiring something that we have just completed. But sometimes we don't sit back and admire it, often it can be a struggle, and it often doesn't go to plan. Often we will suffer from perfectionism and not see the inherent beauty and meaning in the creative process. However that doesn't mean to say that meaning is not there. And that's what todays episode is about. In my conversation with Sean. How a chance opportunity to take some time out in Snowdonia to make a video documentary gave him the necessary space to share how he got stuff more wrong than right with people The way in which cataloguing the ups and downs of his creative journey resonated with people. Why building some space away from our normal environment is essential to recharge our creative batteries and inspiration How creating things enables us to sculpt, mould, hammer and document order from the chaos of the world Why perfectionism holds some people back from just putting work out into the world for others to see and the power of trial and error

Today I speak to creator of a new 6 month peer-led learning programme called 'Father Figures' and philosopher Sam Weatherald Feminism isn't anything new and in the past 100 years we have seen it evolve through 4 distinct waves around the central theme that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men. However their are divisions within feminism itself as to where it is now headed, and as it becomes swept up in social reconstructionist ideology many are asking exactly where it is going, and what does it mean for Men, Dads and the Family? In my conversation with Sam we discuss: The different groups that exist within feminism and how they are not all on the same page as to the future direction of the movement Why men feel that feminism has begun to overstep it's original remit when it comes to directing men as to how they should behave How Sam sees feminism as very much behind the notion of a strong masculine father presence and the benefits it brings Whether the idea of patriarchy is actually valid in 2021 How in the Modern West, many of the issues feminism is fighting against no longer exist The credibility issues feminism has to overcome when it comes to double standards between men and women **To grab a FREE copy of my new e-book The Dad Blueprint https://joe-c56f9.gr8.com/ (click here)** **To join my EXCLUSIVE Brotherhood for Dads - The Dads Circle https://the-dads-circle.mn.co/ (click here)** Get involved and find out more To get involved with the conversation on social media we are on https://www.facebook.com/guildofdads/?modal=admin_todo_tour (Facebook), https://www.instagram.com/guildofdads/ (Instagram) & https://twitter.com/guildofdads (Twitter) If you want to join the Guild of Dads you can do so via our https://www.facebook.com/pg/guildofdads/groups/ (Facebook Group) Episode show notes can be found on our https://guildofdads.com/ (website) If you like what we are doing, leave a rating and review https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/guild-of-dads-vision-action-meaning/id1489225209 (here)

Today I speak to author of the book “The Hungry Brain" , an expert in neurodegenerative disease and the neuroscience of body fatness, obesity and eating behaviour, Stephan J Guyenet PhD We all love food - lets admit it but for many of us life is a constant battle of staying fit and healthy at the same time as enjoying the foods we really like in moderation. Which is easier said than done given the sheer variety and amount of different foods available today at the dial of the phone or click of a mouse. But why can't we control our urge to eat, and where does this come from? In my conversation with Stephan we discuss: How energy is the key driver of human survival and why the human brain is inbuilt with systems that control how we go about getting the energy to survive Why in evolutionary terms the threat of getting not enough energy was greater than the threat of getting too much food. The way we are hardwired to acquire rather than expend energy How specific foods are more habit forming and addictive than others and why the food industry engineers them to be that way. Why Stephan believes that the obesity epidemic has gone so far in some countries that state intervention may be the only answer to curb this. **To grab a FREE copy of my new e-book The Dad Blueprint https://www.thedadscircle.com/e-book (click here)** **To join my EXCLUSIVE Brotherhood for Dads - The Dads Circle https://www.thedadscircle.com/sales-page-21617942919924 (click here)** Get involved and find out more To get involved with the conversation on social media we are on https://www.facebook.com/guildofdads/?modal=admin_todo_tour (Facebook), https://www.instagram.com/guildofdads/ (Instagram) & https://twitter.com/guildofdads (Twitter) If you want to join the Guild of Dads you can do so via our https://www.facebook.com/pg/guildofdads/groups/ (Facebook Group) Episode show notes can be found on our https://guildofdads.com/ (website) If you like what we are doing, leave a rating and review https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/guild-of-dads-vision-action-meaning/id1489225209 (here)

We all assume that we will be able to conceive naturally when the time comes for but 1000's of men and women all over the world, what should be a simple biological event can't take place for whatever reason. What follows is a journey of ups, downs, highs and lows that most of us with kids can't imagine. In my conversation with Shaun we discuss: How catching mumps when he was younger meant he went through much of his adult life completely oblivious to the the impact it would later have on his fertility. The painful procedures both he and his wife had to go through in order to detect whether he still had any fertility at all and his wife then having to have fertility treatment. The grieving process he went through as he came to terms with being infertile but the way in which he began to see life differently through the simple act of surrendering to what had happened. How the ups and downs of the experience have shaped the man he has now become and why it's so important to him to help other men in the same position as he was go through the process. Chris and I discuss: How Chris originally set up Miscarriage for Men to throw himself into something positive off the back of his wife's recent miscarriage. He realised very quickly that there was nothing for men in dealing with the grief involved in coping with a family miscarriage. Why Chris believes part of the stigma around miscarriage is that people just don't know how to talk about it. The way in which the unresolved grief impacts many other parts of a Dads life and can go on for decades. In my conversation with Antonio we discuss: The factors that led to his life going downhill in 2016 and how he needed to have a big rethink on what he was doing and where he was going. How many people play life as if they are trying not to lose rather than trying to win Why around mid life the 'manual for life' seems to run out for a lot of Men.
