Miami Dolphins Tales From The DeepWhile working as an artist in the Miami Herald newsroom in the early 1970s, Dave Cross took up photography as a hobby and began shooting Miami Dolphins games. Dave's hobby developed into a passion, which ultimately led to a job offer from the NFL franchise. In 1984, Cross accepted and became the Dolphins' official team photographer, a position he would hold for the next 30 years. Charged with preserving the team's visual history, Cross has photographed every Dolphin from Bob Griese to Dan Marino; Larry Csonka to Ricky Williams; Bill Stanfill to Jason Taylor. While in The Tank, Dave explains how he made the transition from newspaper man to team photographer, reluctantly recalls a time where he forgot to put film in his camera before photographing Jimmy Johnson and his coaching staff, and details his journey with the 1972 Dolphins on their trip to the White House. Dave was also married on the team charter returning from Don Shula's 325th coaching victory, gave Harley Davidson riding lessons to Dave Wannstedt, and is a dead ringer for former Notre Dame head coach, Lou Holtz.
How does the UK's biggest gym chain approach Group Fitness? What are the differences between low cost Group Fitness and the rest of the market? In this week's podcast, I’m talking to Dave Cross, Group Fitness Manager for Pure Gym, the UK's biggest gym chain. We talk about how they approach programming, being a low cost provider, what formats they focus on and how they empower their staff to teach Group Fitness. And finally, we touch on how they pivoted when lockdown hit - and I think Dave’s approach to this is up there with the best I’ve seen from anyone! This is the first time we’ve looked into the low-cost segment of the market, which makes up a HUGE portion of fitness. It’s a really interesting perspective, and, if you’re a very experienced Instructor, quite different to what you might be used to. In this episode Dave Cross discusses some Photoshop myths: techniques that may be out of date or misunderstood but continue to be recommended by some people. For example, enlarging a photo 10% at a time or using the Pen tool because "it makes the most accurate selections". On this episode of Bubble Bath Stories: Manny discovers society uses Wikipedia for everything! Nicky talks on the amazing story and tragic ending of late rapper Nipsey Hussle. And both host debate on whether Joe Biden is a perv. Manny has gone deep into the internet black hole to notice Wikipedia has become the go to site to find out about EVERYTHING. Especially when it come to new premieres for movies or shows. Seems a lot of people had no idea who Dee Dee Blanchard was until Hulu’s The Act. Dee Dee Blanchard was the mother of Gyspy Rose, a young girl who thought she was wheelchair bound and sick her whole life due to her mother’s own mental sickness. Same goes for Netflix’s new movie The Highwaymen. This movie follows the 2 detectives that were on the case of famed burglar lovers Bonnie & Clyde. ***AT THE TIME OF RECORDING LAPD DID NOT HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. AS OF TUESDAY 4/2, IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED A SUSPECT BY THE NAME OF ERIC HOLDER*** Nicky and Manny speak on the amazing influence Grammy nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle has on his community and the music industry. Nipsey was once a gang-banging Crip turned entrepreneur. Him and his business partner Dave Cross spent millions of dollars on a strip mall to help revitalize his home of Crenshaw. He was also working on a documentary on famed and controversial herbalist Dr. Sebi. Many believe his death was in connection with said documentary and that the untimely death of the rapper was in response to it. Others believed it was gang related. Conspiracy theorist and realist alike all know either way, Nipsey death was tragic to everyone. Joe Biden: affectionate man or touchy feely perv? After former Nevada politician Lucy Flores accused former Vice President Joe Biden of being inappropriate all hell broke loose. Men and woman alike are standing behind Biden, saying that he is just an affectionate person. The ladies of The View also spoke on issue stating they are afraid that one day we won’t be able to give hugs, or even handshakes our if fear of backlash. Another woman, Amy Lappos also came forward to speak on her own incident with the former Vice President back in 2009. Lappos was reported saying Biden should step aside and support anyone of the many qualified women running for the 2020 presidency. For our first episode, Seán and Dave Cross of HomeGround Magazine present each other with a selection of random artefacts and moments from Kate's almost 40 year career and chat briefly about each one. Just a small dip into the vast ocean of Kate's work, before we get more specific in future episodes!
Australian director Russell Mulcahy had only one previous narrative film credit on his resume, 1985's Razorback, when he landed the gig directing future cult classic Highlander. Razorback's atmosphere and muscularity and Mulcahy's experience with vivid short form filmmaking directing scores of music videos for the likes of Duran Duran, Elton John, Def Leppard and Human League, both played into him landing the gig. A flop on it's initial release, the film gave birth to a mini cottage industry after a huge HBO and VHS following spawned five sequels and two TV versions, not to mention books and graphic novels. Having never seen the film, Dan and Vicky look at the Highlander mystique with fresh eyes and ears (Queen did the songs and Michael Kamen provided the bombastic score) and they have strong thoughts on stars Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery and the directing style of Mulcahy. There's also lots of recently seen including the comedy of Dave Chappelle, Dave Cross and Patton Oswalt, the new films Belko Experiment and Life, a double dose of Black Christmas, Rob Zombie's 31, and Almodovar's Julieta. Vicky also sounds off on the Tommy Wiseau classic The Room and announces our arrival on Stitcher! And Dan does his own time-traveling when a listener's letter takes him back to high school. Go back to 1986 with us -- with some Heart, John Mellencamp and Atlantic Starr thrown in for good measure - for a dash of sword play and Immortal love with Hot Date 49: Highlander.
