The sisters visit with Austin Thompson of the Way Down Wanderers. Often referred to by fans as one of the hardest-working, hardest-touring bands on the circuit today, the 5-piece Illinois-based act not only proves that classification with their jam-packed tour schedule but also on stage every night, with youthful exuberance and a lively stage show, asreliable as it is infectious. High energy percussion, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo, and fiddle weave seamlessly together to create an experience for fans that has sold out shows across the UK and the United States, filling the front rows with fans not just singing along to one tune, but singing along to all of them. “Everybody says it. We'd be nothing without our supporters. Yeah, they buy tickets and of course we love that, but when we've been on the road for 10hours and walk onto a stage road weary and we see familiar faces singing along, it's hard to describe. It's everything, really. There's a whole lot of love there.” Music enthusiasts are not the only ones taking note. Critics and tastemakers alikehave awarded the young artists an impressive number of accolades ranging fromofficial showcases at AmericanaFest (2018) and International Bluegrass MusicAssociation (2016) to Whitstable UK Session of the Year (2017), a BBC ScotlandSession (2017) as well as Finalist, International Song Writing Competition(2015 & 2016), Chicago's Best Emerging Artist, Deli Magazine (2014) andSongpickr's Best Songs Spotify Playlist (2016) among others. The young men areno strangers to the festival circuit either, having played major National andRegional Festivals such as Merlefest, Summer Camp, Red Wing Roots MusicFestival and Saskatchewan Jazz Fest all across the United States, Canada andthe UK. The band has also graced the stage of coveted venues such as BluegrassUnderground (TN), The Fox Theater (CO), Park West (IL), The Vogue (IN) TheStation Inn (TN) The Gramercy Theater (NYC), and countless others. Recorded at The Recording Co-op, an old barn that had been converted into a beautiful music studio, She Is Free received critical acclaim. Brian Varneke of Deli Magazine called it "a deeply personal record full of reflective poetry and messages of love," and Music Box Pete described Dobbins' sound as "derived within the folk and country mindset, with a realistic and down home sound that transports you directly to Nashville by way of Boston." For Dobbins, it was a personal declaration that fear would no longer hold her back, and that she had been set free to live with passion, expectation for great things, and love.Dobbins' sophomore album, There Is Light, contains remarkably honest songs that capture seasons of both hardship and joy, but hold onto the hope that light will always illuminate and overpower darkness. The songs range a variety of genres, incorporating elements of folk, pop, and country, and dreamlike qualities that connect them all. This second album is a clear evolutionary step for Dobbins, with increased depth and range vocally, lyrically, and musically that together make her unique way of describing personal relationships and life challenges even more powerful and compelling. Full of songs that explore the intimate relationship of despair and hope with the human spirit, There Is Light reveals Dobbins as more seasoned in both life and her artistry. Nominated for Album of the Year at The 2019 New England Music Awards, the album is currently available on all digital streaming platforms."The theme for this episode is Songs That Inspire. Sam welcomes Emerging Artist Greg Banks. Greg Banks is a New Orleans native who is being described as “The Saint of Soul“. Greg has mesmerized audiences throughout NYC and around the county, so it's no surprise he was chosen by Deli Magazine as NYC's best emerging artist. With his amazing body of musical works & his hit singles ”Your Love”, ”16” and “Brooklyn Girl“, his phenomenal music is causing a major buzz. His most recent track ‘Tell Me' is an eclectic and unexpected fusion of funk, soul, and rock-n-roll. Banks' exuberant sound masterfully pays homage to guitar heroes Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz and the R&B and funk sounds that originated in his hometown. “And, like, I'm not going to say Banks is the next Prince (because that's blasphemous), but the vibes on this one are pretty purple to me.” – AfroPunk magazine. Sam and Greg will be talking all about how music brings out your soul! Today's episode of the Conscious Consultant Hour sees Sam inviting on Greg Banks, a New Orleans native and “The Saint of Soul”. Following quotes from the Universe and Abraham focused on control and trust in matters of the personal, Greg delves into his musical background fostered by his family and how it helped him heal in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Greg believes his background of support and elevation in music allowed him to achieve his dreams in life, despite societal expectations of what a dream can be. Sharing the floor of a 2-bedroom apartment in Mississippi with 19 people, Greg had an epiphany that neurology was not his true calling, as he was compelled to follow the music. Greg profiles the inspiration and lyrics for his song “Heaven,” as the evolution of an artist is discussed. What are the expectations of a musical artist in society, compared to the actual reality of playing? Greg also discusses his spiritual connection to the art he creates and his bandmates who help bring it to life. Staying inspired and being larger than circumstance is talked about as well. How can a self-starting artist unite people behind a creative vision in a fractured music industry devoid of gatekeepers? Finally, Greg and Sam discuss the future and how music can shift the climate of thought in the world. “Influence is not about controlling other people. Influence is leading by example.” “Playing the trumpet kept me off the streets? What's ‘the streets,' you say? ‘The streets' is any place not occupied by your mind.” “The choice was either to be better or to be bitter.” Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-conscious-consultant-hour8505/donations

"I write what I write and try not to worry about putting it in sort of box" Katie Garibaldi Katie Garibaldi - Singer/Songwriter With her seventh full-length album, Follow Your Heart, released, and an endorsement deal with Breedlove Stringed Instruments, who worked with her to build her a new custom Master Class guitar, Katie Garibaldi has proven to be an artist with staying power. Based in the golden city of San Francisco, this determined and enthusiastic singer/songwriter/guitarist is an avid national touring performer who has acquired a devoted fan base, due in large part to her engaging live shows, and personal connection to her listeners through her music. She sings with an emotional nearness that, in combination with her melodic and catchy songs and her soulful and expressive vocals, captures her audience wherever she performs. Katie has a characteristic musical style wherein her country-tinged folk-rock gives her a distinct and edgy sound—Americana with sparkling memorable melodies, or what her fans have referred to as "Americountry." Her latest album, Follow Your Heart, was recorded at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone Recording Studios in San Francisco, CA, and engineered by Ian Pellicci, and features some of the prolific writer's most personal songs, most of which reflect back to her simple yet powerful message of the importance of having the conviction to follow one’s heart, and also includes performances by notable musicians, including the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Follow Your Heart is Katie’s first full-length release of all new compositions since her award winning Next Ride Out album in 2009. In that time, the Americana songstress has toured the country, and built her business DIY-style from the ground up. Guitar Player magazine calls Garibaldi “a gifted songwriter with a gorgeous voice” and Music Connection magazine says, “Garibaldi is blessed with a sweet and pure soprano, and we hear a sincerity in this artist that is real.” She has been named a Music Connection magazine Top 100 Live Unsigned Artist, received the Songwriter of the Year award from Songsalive!, is an active voting member of the Recording Academy, and was named Emerging Artist Of The Year for 2015 from the Indie Music Channel. Katie was also voted San Francisco Artist Of The Month by The Deli Magazine in September 2015. Recently, the indie artist released her first music video, "Lock The Door, Lose The Key," a fun story depicting the adventure of a newlywed couple. The music video premiered in September 2015 on The Deli Magazine as a one-year celebration to 2014's Follow Your Heart. Her upcoming new EP, a return to her folk-driven roots, which she recorded in a Nashville studio that's seen the likes of country greats like Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, and George Jones, and features a mixture of classical and country string players is aimed for release in Spring of 2016. Kelli Rae Powell is the tiny ukulele-wielding, redheaded stepchild of Billie Holiday and Johnny Cash. Whether she’s growling out wry ruminations or purring her way through a drinkaby (a lullaby-meets-drinking song of her own device), she delivers the kind of consistently literate lyrics that once prompted Tommy Ramone to call her a poet. The Iowa-bred performer arrived in New York City in 2000, and after making a name for herself in the city’s underground ukulele cabaret scene, released 2006’s “The Scandalous Accounts of My Youth,” and 2009’s “New Words For Old Lullabies” (both on Firecracker Records). She has been listed as a “Rising Star: Folk” in iTunes Essentials, alongside Bon Iver, Joanna Newsom and The Weepies, and New York City’s Deli Magazine wrote that her talents place her at the “tip of the NYC ukulele solo singer songwriter movement.” Powell’s forthcoming CD, “Live At Jalopy,” produced by Terry Radigan and recorded at Jalopy Theatre and School of Music in Red Hook, Brooklyn, showcases a confident artist at the height of her game. AMBER RUBARTH has become a fixture in New York's indie scene, named #1 Best of NYC Songwriter by Deli Magazine last year and grand prize winner of NPR's Mountain Stage New Song Contest. At 21 years old, Amber decided to quit her career as a chainsaw sculptor in Nevada in order to pursue music. She taught herself guitar, began playing open mics and recorded her songs, which soon received over 1.5 million listens on MySpace through word of mouth alone. Amber's latest is a live album 'Sessions from the 17th Ward' features Dave Eggar on cello who will be performing with her on WoodSongs. THE RAGBIRDS are a fusion of folk rock and pop hooks over danceable world rhythms stirred with a Celtic fiddler's bow. Hailing from Ann Arbor, MI, the energy of multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle demands attention. She is the songwriter and front woman of the band, skillfully switching between violin, mandolin, accordion, banjo and percussion, all while dancing. The release of The Ragbirds' fourth studio effort 'Travelin' Machine' is a new milestone for the band.
