In Turkish-controlled Northern Cyprus, education has become the leading economic sector. No less than 23 universities are concentrated in the small self-declared state recognised only by Turkey, which has occupied it since 1974. They attract students from developing countries by offering affordable courses with a "European" stamp of approval. But some of these students are soon disappointed. After falling victim to false promises made by their recruiters, they can end up in desperate situations. FRANCE 24's Corentin Bainier, Erika Olavarria and Derek Thomson report.

Derek Thomson of Apex Trail Construction joins the Gnardcast this week and barely gets a word in about building trails, despite having traveled the country coast to coast designing trails for everyone from small municipalities to pro riders like Eric Porter and Tyler McCaul. He's currently working on a project east of Zion National Park. Derek gives some insight into trail building, but everyone is too distracted by how high Sponch is to pay much attention to anything else. The boys talk about the mini horses, a topic that Gnards seem unwilling to let go of, and also update everyone on the massive amount of injuries and ailments fellow Gnards are suffering. Jimmy dedicates a baiku to these fallen dirt soldiers. There is a full Mail Sack, which is emptied as quickly as possible, and a new segment called Kinard's Korner makes its debut with a beautiful story about lot lizards in Massachussettes.

Josh is an independent scientist and author. His is the author of Beyond AI: Creating the Conscience of the Machine, which details the (possibly) imminent development of strong AI, and the desirability, if and when that happens, that such AIs be equipped with a moral sense and conscience. He is also the author of Nanofuture, dealing with real nanotechnology, i.e. molecular machines. He was the founder and moderator of the sci.nanotech newsgroup for a decade.
