A professional actor with a promising career, Cesar Perez was on a meteoric rise until a drunk driver slammed into his car head-on. He coded on the paramedics more than once on the way to the hospital, and coded again when he arrived. It's a miracle he even survived. Still, he wouldn't have called it miraculous at the time. In one devastating blow, all his dreams had been ripped away. A severe brain injury had left him almost entirely incapacitated. His right arm was paralyzed. His femur had snapped in two. His face was shattered. He spent months learning how to breathe, eat, walk, and talk all over again. In the midst of it all, his girlfriend left him—the same girlfriend he had been on his way to see that fateful night. But life, ultimately, is a gift. Fragile, firm, and beautiful. Throughout the course of Cesar's long, often tortuous recovery, “Chase the Light” shines with courage, grace, and the resilience of the human spirit—reminding us that every life has meaning and every soul has a purpose, always, even in our darkest moments. In episode 291 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Cesar chose Georgia Southern University, what he was most worried about after the car accident, what he thinks of when he sees pictures of the accident or pictures of himself in the hospital, when it was the right time to share the story in a book, how his outlook on life has changes since the accident, how COVID-19 affected his recovery, how his injuries affect being active in his family life as he was before the accident, why it's important to have a good support system when recovering from a car accident, what he wants to tell college students about drinking while driving, and what was it like meeting the first responders who saved him. On Sunday September 27th, 2015 Marco Muzzo landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport. He was returning on a private jet from a trip to Miami. He got into his SUV and drove off, reaching 85 kilometers per hour (or ~53 mph). At around 4:10 PM, Muzzo's SUV sped past a stop sign in Vaughan (a city in Ontario, north of Toronto and within the GTA), smashing a family minivan. Gary Neville, 65, was killed instantly. Children Daniel (9), Harry (5), and Milaga (Milly, 2) Neville-Lake also died from their injuries. Neriza Neville and Josephina Frias, also in the minivan, were severely injured. The children's father, Edward, would later die by suicide. In this episode, we dissect this case and the controversy surrounding the sentencing and parole of Marco Muzzo, as well as better solutions to the epidemic of driving while intoxicated or under the influence. Alcohol is EVERYWHERE – there is nowhere to hide. But drinking is legal-so what’s the big deal? The issue is when you drink and drive. The question at the beginning of the day should be – how will I get home after I drink? Today, Margot discusses 5 cases where a military member made one idiotic decision to get behind the wheel of a 3k pound death mobile while intoxicated that resulted in someone’s death. The prison sentences were reasonably lengthy and for good reason. Dig in with Margot as she discusses the cases against Marine Elijah Ferguson, Airman Lane Wyatt, Airman Anjelika Faul, Soldier Jesse Evans Jr., and Monty Janes (military branch unknown). In these cases, Margot will also discuss the resulting tragic deaths of Dr. Michael Sein, 20-year old Citari Townes-Sweatt, Retired-MSgt Michael David Brown, college students Kimberly Brin and Sierra Smith, and Soldier Michael Tungate. Andrew and Andrew continue their discussion of DWI laws in the State of Texas. Please don’t drink and drive, but since DWI is an opinion crime (its the officer’s opinion if you’re intoxicated) ANYBODY could find themselves under arrest for DWI. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please note, nothing said in this podcast should be construed as legal advice…call an attorney personally for that!
Andrew and Andrew discuss some of the finer points of DWI law in the State of Texas. Please don’t drink and drive in Texas! But if you’re arrested for DWI, the case may not be a slam dunk against you. The law is complicated, the procedures are specific, and many police officers make mistakes. Call an attorney immediately if you’ve been arrested for suspicion of DWI!

We all know that drinking and driving is a serious and dangerous offense. But it may surprise you that drivers are being charged with DWI for taking prescription drugs while riding bicycles, horses, and yes Segways. In this episode of Lawyer 2 Lawyer, host Bob Ambrogi interviews Douglas Kans and Robert Ambrose from the Kans Law Firm. Together they discuss the disparate treatment of controlled substances, your rights while being charged with an offense, and modes of transportation to stay away from while intoxicated. Special thanks to our sponsor, Clio.
