Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans getting back to .500 with a 28-20 win over Nebraska in UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava's first start in cardinal and gold. The podcasters also look forward, giving their thoughts on the upcoming matchup against UCLA. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun talking about his excitement about the rivalry game set to take plae this weekend. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to discuss some of the traditions missing from his coverage of practices leading up to Saturday's Crosstown Showdown and how Kyle Ford brought back some fire with his mentality about facing off against his former team. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. The way the ball comes off Maiava's hand and his velocity is discussed as well as an unprecedented streak of good fortune that was bestowed upon the Trojans against the Cornhuskers after having only bad luck for much of this season. Play calling and the run game headed by running back Woody Marks after his career-best performance also get a positive review as do defensive linemen Elijah Hughes and Kameryn Fountain along with others. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw issues with their health after an outbreak of flu cases cut through the locker room. The return and departure of Jacobe Covington as well as the limited playing time of Ja'Kobi Lane are also focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Anthony Lucas, Zachariah Branch and Lane. There are also recruiting and hypothetical retention inquiries, and a fun question about who could/should become USC's new Big Ten rival. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and then the viability of some famous people wearing jorts. The Helium Boys Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino back behind the microphones to react to USC's abysmal showing in a 38-20 rivalry loss to UCLA in the Trojans final Pac-12 game. Over 108 minutes, the Helium Boys break down the lackluster showing in the Crosstown Showdown that left them feeling like parents that are more disappointed than angry after a child's misdeeds and left the Trojans with a 7-5 record. The Helium Boys episode opens with the 'Two-Minute Drill' as each gives his initial reactions to the Trojans' loss to UCLA and the biggest things that stood out, including the continuation of the same story that has been seen throughout the season with an additional subplot of constantly giving the ball back to UCLA. In the Stock Up/Stock Down segment, the podcasting duo discuss who/what impressed, including Brenden Rice playing angry and collecting his fifth career 100-yard game, freshman defensive lineman Elijah Hughes getting his most extended run of the season and the Superman efforts of Caleb Williams that we've likely seen for the last time in cardinal and gold. The Helium Boys also look into what stocks took a hit over the weekend with USC continuing to have tackling woes on defense and struggling to block up front on the offensive side. Shotgun also poses the question to Chris of which offseason slogan was the worst between the 2012 team's "Prep, Not Hype" and 2023's "The longer it goes, the better we get." They also get diverted and go down a rabbit hole on the Pop Tart Bowl and end up having to present their favorite flavors. Throughout the show, Chris and Shotgun also look forward at USC's impending hire of a defensive coordinator and some of the things the new coach is going to have to address immediately. The Helium Boys then answer your questions from Twitter and Instagram discussing areas/players where USC regressed, how the transfer portal will reshape the Trojans' roster this offseason, preferred offensive systems and whether Jim Leonhard could be "Grinch-like." They also break down their three favorite holidays. Then during the overtime portion of the 'Take It or Leave It' section, Chris questions Shotgun on celebrity Thanksgiving guests and their side dishes of choice. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return with the Helium Boys Podcast to react to USC's defensive improvements in a 66-14 victory over Nevada that moves the Trojans to 2-0 on the season. The Helium Boys discuss the notable takeaways from the blowout win and why what we've seen in the first two games should still be taken with a bit of skepticism and a grain of salt. Shotgun and Chris introduce a new 'biggest takeaway' segment called the 'Two-Minute Drill' and then break down the victory with Stock Up/Stock Down, discussing who impressed, including a number of offensive players that contributed to an eight-touchdown outing as well as the defense that produced a touchdown of its own. The boys also take a look at the bigger themes that took a step towards being developed in the opener and what has to be cleaned up in Pac-12 play, which starts this weekend for the Trojans when they take on their oldest 'rival,' Stanford. The Helium Boys also preview this week's matchup against the Cardinal, who the Trojans could be playing for the last time in the foreseeable future thanks to conference realignment with USC moving to the Big Ten next July and Stanford recently having announced it is heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference with California and SMU. This Cardinal team won't resemble the Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw teams that focused on pounding opponents with a downhill, old-school rushing attack and big-bodied wide receivers and tight ends, but Stanford still does have some of those weapons with 6-foot-5 receiver John Humphreys and dynamic 6-foot-4 tight end Benjamin Yurosek. A podcast of the people, the Helium Boys also answer your USC mailbag questions about a number of topics spanning from the defending elite tight ends to the future impact of freshman pass rushers Braylan Shelby and Elijah Hughes as well as discussing the insane workload Colorado's Travis Hunter had in the Buffaloes' upset of TCU. Finally, the podcast concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some "Take It or Leave It" prompts both from the Trojans' win over the Wolf Pack, including touchdown celebrations, as well as around college football in Week 1 with grilling and weather phenomena both featured. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return for the first in-season Helium Boys Podcast to react to the overreactions of USC's 56-28 win over San Jose State in the season opener. The Helium Boys discuss what should be the big takeaways from the blowout victory and what things should be taken with a grain of salt...at least for now. Shotgun and Chris break down the victory with Stock Up/Stock Down, discussing who impressed, including the obvious -- Zachariah Branch -- and those that might have flown a bit under the radar -- Branch's fellow freshman Elijah Hughes. The boys also take a look at the bigger themes that took a first step towards being developed in the opener and what has to be cleaned up in the next couple weeks to keep the pitchforks at bay. They preview this week's matchup against Nevada, who the Trojans have not played since 1929. Despite the nearly 100-year span between matchups, there should be some familiarity with several known faces on the other side from former Colorado quarterback Brendon Lewis, former Oregon running back Sean Dollars and most notably former Trojans wide receiver John Jackson III and edge rusher Elijah Winston. A podcast of the people, the Helium Boys also answer your USC mailbag questions about a number of topics spanning from the offensive line rotations to the top linebacker pairings and who were their standouts on the defensive side of the ball. Finally, the podcast concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some "Take It or Leave It" prompts both from the Trojans' Week 0 win over the Spartans and inventions that debuted in the year the Wolf Pack and Trojans last played. The Trail Blazers handed the Los Angeles Lakers a comically embarrassing loss Wednesday night at the Moda Center. Portland rolled out a lineup featuring two two-way players, a second round rookie and minimum contract veterans around Anfernee Simons and still managed to beat LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the mostly whole Lakers. LA Stinks. But the win was entertaining and unexpected even if the Lakers really, truly and completely stink.Off the court the Blazers made another trade on Wednesday sending out recently acquired Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Tomas Satoransky in exchange for Joe Ingles, Elijah Hughes and a 2022 second round pick. Ingles tore his ACL last month and will likely never play for the Blazers and Hughes is a second rounder on an expiring deal. This trade isn't about the players Portland landed its about the $5 million in cap space the trade created for the Blazers next season. Flexibility remains the name of the game in the Northwest. Finally, a Haters Guide to tanking. Who to root for, who to root against as we head down the stretch of the season. The Orange are coming to town, with or without their best player Elijah Hughes. The junior hurt himself in warmups on Tuesday, and will likely be a gametime decision. Coach Boeheim can be as tight lipped about injuries as Leonard Hamilton, so unless Hughes doesn't travel with the team I am guessing that this is all we are going to hear. In his absence, Syracuse lost a close game at NC State. Boeheim doesn't really trust his bench, so four players went at least 37 minutes and two played the whole game. His son Buddy was one of the those players, and we talk about his development from last year's mediocre freshman season. Other topics covered include how to attack the Syracuse zone and who on FSU's roster is best suited to do that; the likelihood that Syracuse will bait FSU into a 3-point shooting contest; and some historical tidbits about Ham and Boeheim. As a bonus for all you derelicts out there, we make ACC picks for the weekend. As always, these picks are not for betting purposes, but if you'd like to share some winnings we prefer Venmo. Syracuse is always a threat with their legendary 2-3 zone defense that is a nightmare for opposing coaches to prepare for. Guard Tyus Battle missed the ACC Tournament games against Pittsburgh and Duke and his return to good health is paramount for Coach Jim Boeheim. The 6-6 junior guard averages more than 17 points a game. Oshae Brissett and Elijah Hughes also need to step up for the Orange to do well, but Battle is the key.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
