Alex Glow filled our heads with project ideas. Alex is the Resident Hardware Nerd at Hackster.io. Her page is glowascii and you might want to see Archimedes the AI robot owl and the Hardware 101 channel. They have many sponsored contests including BadgeLove. You can find her on Twitter at @glowascii. Lightning round led us to many possibles: It you were building an IoT stuffed animal, what would you use? Mycroft and Snips are what is inside Archimedes. If you were building a camera to monitor a 3d printer, what would you use? For her M3D Micro Printer, Alex would use the Raspberry Pi based OctoPi to monitor it. If you were going to a classroom of 2nd graders, what boards would you take? The BBC Micro:bit (based on Code Bug) or some LittleBits kits (Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit and Korg Synth Kit are on Amazon (those are Embedded affiliate links, btw). If you were going to make a car-sized fighting robot, what dev system would you use? The Open Source Novena DIY Laptop initially designed Bunnie Huang There were more software and hardware kits to explore: Google DIY AI Arduino Maker1000 Raspberry Pi Chirp.io For your amusement Floppotron plays Bohemian Rhapsody Alex gave a shout out to her first hackerspace All Hands Active Ableton is audio workstation and sequencer software. Alex recommends Women's Audio Mission as a good way to learn audio production and recording if you are in the San Francisco area. There is an Interplanetary File System and Alex worked on a portable printer console for it. Elecia is always willing to talk about Ty the typing robot and/or narwhals teaching Bayes Rule. She recommended the book There Are No Electrons: Electronics for Earthlings by Kenn Amdahl.

This week it's about finding a mindless way to feel productive by painting the fence. There's a lot going on at Casa Shiny and my parents have been restricted again in Greater Manchester, along with a load of friends, so the 'rona is making its presence felt. Thus, I have included some quality Youtube material to give you a giggle, including the Floppotron and the genius that is Sexy Sax Man. I've done some knitting on the Snaw Heid hat in between roaming Sussex and Kent looking for a new place to live. Reading wise, it's been all about The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. She's a northerner and a knitter, so it was always going to be good. I've also just discovered the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch.

Alex Glow (@glowascii) filled our heads with project ideas. Alex is the Resident Hardware Nerd at Hackster.io. Her page is glowascii and you might want to see Archimedes the AI robot owl and the Hardware 101 channel. They have many sponsored contests including BadgeLove. Alex recommends Women’s Audio Mission as a good way to learn audio production and recording if you are in the San Francisco area.

This week we wonder if we would survive a 24 hour Groundhog Day marathon, talk about the Oscar and Razzie nominations, Superman finding his underwear, and we take a look at Godzilla and part one of his new anime film trilogy, Planet of Monsters, and discuss how he still has a place in our world while destroying it, and Steve tries to figure what songs the Floppotron is playing.
In episode 42 ofChildren of the Force we discuss Celebration Europe news, how it's virtually impossible to have an original Star Wars thought (google it if you don't believe me), and all sorts of news, jokes and a quiz. Join us, and together we will catch 'em all as father and son and daughter and listener.... As always, check out our website for our show guides, which come along with photos and links and videos and all sorts of great stuff you aren't going to find in these show notes: https://childrenoftheforce.com/2016/07/13/episode-42-pre-celebration-postulations/ DEDICATION [0:00] This episode of Children of the Force is dedicated to the memory of PhilandoCastile. STAR WARSY STUFF [3:00] Double Points weekend for Battlefront! Liam got a sweet new Darth Vader watch. It’s digital! We got a kick out of this Floppotron video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oym7B7YidKs And … we started catching Pokemon. It’s ridiculous. NEWS [7:15] A three-minute Rogue One trailer is coming out this Friday … probably. Celebration is quickly approaching. The wave of news is going to crash this weekend and it’s going to be hard to stay upright. But we’ll do our best. Are we going to get a name for Episode VIII? Anna thinks so. Our friend BB-K8 is live-blogging her experience overseas. At the time of recording, she hadn’t made it to Skellig Michael yet. But the next day, she made it there! So happy for her. Check out all the awesomeness of her trip over at Blabba the Hutt: http://blabbathehutt.net/other/live-blog-bb-k8-heads-celebration-europe/ Thankfully for all of us who can’t make it to Celebration, they’re going to be live-streaming it again! The Star Wars Show Live will show us as much of celebration as they can. I’m really looking forward to the Running of the Willrow Hoods! Jedi Bibliothek posted some images from an upcoming book that gave us three really great images. His post can be found here: https://jedi-bibliothek.de/blog/2016/07/vorschau-und-infos-zum-neuen-galactic-atlas/ Aftermath: Life Debt is out! Here’s the excerpt we talked about: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2016/07/08/maz-kanata-star-wars-aftermath-life-debt-exclusive-excerpt/86839668/ We get a great pre-Celebration email from our Star Wars Celebration UK Correspondent, Nick from London. Carrie Fischer, Ray Park, Episode VIII, Benicio del Toro, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, a post-Episode IX trilogy, and ... is Mace Windu alive? My answer: #snokeismacewindu CANON NEWS [26:05] Of all the crashed Star Destroyers on Jakku, we know the names of two of them. The Ravager and theInflictor. We discuss the known history of these two ships. JOKE [29:30] Two jokes today from Chris from Star Wars Kidscast. Thanks, Chris! What starfighter stings the most? What starfighter is the most dressed up? STUMP THE LUMP! [33:10] This week, the kids show me a trading card and have me guess the name of the person on that card. The card, like images of many of the other things we talked about on this episode, can be found on our show guide at https://childrenoftheforce.com/2016/07/13/episode-42-pre-celebration-postulations/ OUTRO [38:40] Please, feel free to connect with us in any of the following ways: Leave us a voicemail: https://www.speakpipe.com/ChildrenoftheForce Twitter: @forcechildren Facebook: Children of the Force Email: forcechildren@gmail.com Website: www.childrenoftheforce.com Thanks for listening, and may the Force be with you!
