Cobb was at the time probably the biggest star in the major leagues. American League president Ban Johnson suspended and fined him $50 ($1,600 in 2023) for going into the stands at New York's Hilltop Park and beating Claude Lucker, a fan who had been heckling him.Cobb had been Lucker's verbal target throughout the four-game series between the Tigers and New York Yankees. By the fourth inning of the fourth game, on May 15, 1912, with the stream of insults continuing and questioning Cobb's racial ancestry, he lost his temper. He raced into the stands, punching and kicking Lucker, who due to an industrial accident had lost eight fingers and could not defend himself. Cobb was ejected from the game. These events were witnessed by Johnson, who suspended Cobb indefinitely. Since there were at the time few protections for ballplayers from the insults and hurled objects of fans, many took Cobb's side, including his teammates. After beating the Philadelphia Athletics on May 17, the Detroit players telegraphed Johnson that they would not play again until Cobb was reinstated. Johnson refused to do so. Seeking to avoid a $5,000 fine ($114,000 in 2023) if Detroit did not field a team, owner Frank Navin instructed manager Hughie Jennings to recruit a team. Aided by Connie Mack, the Philadelphia owner/manager, he did so. Facing baseball's World Champions, the replacement team lost 24–2. After the game, Johnson came to Philadelphia to negotiate with the players. Cobb urged them to go back to work, and they did. The striking players were fined, as was Cobb when his suspension was lifted on May 25, but all penalties were paid by Navin. When river levels rise, so does the threat of sand boils, which occur when water bubbles out of the ground near the base of a levee, surrounded by a mound of displaced soil. Caused by increased pressure, sand boils are a visible sign that erosion is occurring within a levee. And unless they are treated immediately, these sand boils will grow and more sediment will be displaced, escalating the risk of a catastrophic breach. However, the current method for fighting sand boils is difficult, expensive and dangerous, requiring hundreds of sandbags. To simplify this cumbersome process, ERDC researchers have developed a special lightweight filter that can be inserted into a sand boil to alleviate the pressure and stop the erosion. A single person could install it in about 15 minutes, allowing personnel to alleviate multiple sand boils more safely and efficiently – providing greater protection to our nation's critical levee systems and the lives and livelihoods they defend. We discuss these Sand Boil Filter kits with Samantha Lucker, a research geologist with ERDC's Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. We talk about why sand boils must be promptly addressed (5:04), and how ERDC's new filters will improve on the current process (7:56) and enable better levee management (9:04). We also discuss how this effort started (17:00), how it builds on ERDC's deep expertise in studying the Mississippi River (22:54), and how researchers are improving the filter's design (21:00) to increase its usage (25:23). Wir nehmen Abschied von einem Helden unserer Kindeheit, dessen Existenz wir uns bisher überhaupt nicht bewusst waren. Ansonsten gibt es heute wieder einmal ein buntes Durcheinander an Themen. Mit dabei unter anderem: Medienkompetenz bei Eltern, Handys beim Nachwuchs und Erziehungsprobleme in Kanada.

Was passiert wenn Netflix eine, von Thomas geliebte, Anime-Serie nimmt und daraus eine halbgare Realfilm-Serie produziert. Richtig, Thomas is not amused. Und zwar so gar nicht. Doch bevor Thomas zu Wort kommt, regt Simon sich erstmal über die aktuelle Pandemie-Lage auf. Ihr seht schon, es ist mal wieder ziemlich viel Aufregung, zusammengepresst in eine gute Stunde. Lacher kommen natürlich trotzdem nicht zu kurz!

We have a need ... a need for speed. Dabei geht es nicht um Simons Ausflug nach Hessen. Anfang des Monats kam Forza Horizon 5 raus und als Fan von arcadigen Rennspielen hat Simon bereits einige Kilometer auf den Straßen des virtuellen Mexikos zurückgelegt. Die Woche war schwach. Nicht nur was das Wetter angeht, sonder auch in Bezug auf interessante Nachrichten. Wenn euch aber interessiert was das BESTE ist, was man frisch gelandeten Aliens um die Ohren hauen kann, oder welches Geburtstjahr, ohne Zweifel eines der Besten, seit Anbeginn der Zeitrechnung ist? Dann holt euch einen Tee, eine Tüte Chips und leistet uns Gesellschaft auf der ewig währenden Reise, die 100 Abos zu knacken.

Wir lieben Worst Case Szenarios. Es macht einfach Spaß sich zu überlegen, was Murphy für einen parat hält, welche Folgen Veränderungen haben oder welche Hintergedanken ein französisches Rüstungsunternehmen hat, wenn es eine App entwickelt, die das Potenzial hat, dein Leben zu überwachen, es vielleicht sogar ein Stück weit zu kontrollieren, dich aber auf jeden Fall verpfeifen kann, wenn du etwas Falsches machst. Wie zähmt man einen Drachenlord? Ganz einfach, man zieht ihm mit dem StGB eins über die Rübe. Wusstet ihr, dass Kürbisse eigentlich Rüben sind, die sich für etwas besseres halten? Nein, stimmt auch nicht, aber ich habe eine Überleitung zu Halloween gebraucht. Das ist in ein paar Tagen und das nehmen wir uns zum Anlass, um ein paar Spiele-Empfehlungen rauszuhauen. Nebenbei reden wir auch über den tragischen Unfall am Set von Alec Baldwins neuem Film und über Donald Trumps neue Social Media Platform namens "Truth Social" (ja, wirklich).

Deze week ga ik voor de tweede keer in gesprek met één van mijn favoriete kunstenaars, Pablo Lucker. Ooit kwam hij als jonge Limburger naar het grote Amsterdam, om het hier te gaan maken met zijn creaties. En dat lukte aardig. Na een lange zoektocht wist hij met zijn herkenbare stijl een voet tussen de deur te krijgen in de kunstwereld. En kreeg hij nationale en internationale erkenning. Hij werkte samen met de allergrootste merken én wist ook nog 143.000 mensen zodanig te inspireren dat ze zijn creatieve zoektocht wilde volgen op Instagram. En toen, besloot Pablo onlangs opeens, om juist dat waardevolle account geheel te verwijderen.  Symbolisch verbrandde hij een grote uitgeprinte tijdlijn en gebruikte het as als verf voor een nieuw werk.Don't let numbers define you. Willkommen zur Zusammenfassung des heutigen Spieltages. Eines direkt vorweg, es gab heute nur Eigentore und damit keinen wirklichen Gewinner, sondern nur Verlierer. Los ging es in Minute 11, als die UCLA einen Professor auswechselte und als Ersatz dafür einen Shitstorm aufs Feld brachte, welcher den Backlash mit voller Wucht ins eigene Tor schoss. In Minute 25 folgte bereits das nächste Eigentor, das als Britischer Exitus oder kurz Brexit in die Geschichte eingehen wird. Selten wurde ein Eigentor derart lange und aggressiv vorbereitet. Kurz vor der Pause, in der 41. Minute, dann der Treffer von #allesaufdenTisch, die den Schwurbel-Ball Volley ins eigene Netz beförderten. So etwas ähnliches hat man vor ein paar Monaten bereits in der Partie von #allesdichtmachen gesehen. Das finale Eigentor in der 69. (giggity) Minute kam von Konami, bzw. fiel im neusten Ableger der traditionsreichen Sportspielreihe "Pro Evolution Soccer", der auf den Namen "eFootball 2022" hört. Dort ist es wohl nichts Ungewöhnliches, wenn Spieler wie Lionel Messi mal eben 3 Eigentore schießen, was dafür sorgt, dass es das aktuell am schlechtesten bewertete Spiel ist. Damit endet das Spiel vorzeitig 0:4, da der Schiedsrichter das Elend nicht mehr ertragen konnte und bereits nach 80 Minuten abpfiff.

Wir haben diese Folge am 25.09.2021 aufgenommen und das war ein ganz besonderer Tag für uns. Nicht deswegen, weil am nächsten Tag die Bundestagswahl stattfand, die Shitshow passiert immerhin alle 4 Jahre. Sondern weil Mark Hamill, also Luke fucking Skywalker, seinen 70. Geburtstag gefeiert hat. Für uns Grund genug mal zu schauen, womit er uns neben Star Wars noch so alles begeistert hat. Natürlich müssen wir trotzdem auch nochmal über die BTW 21 reden. Als Ausgleich für dieses trockene Thema gibt es am Schluss aber nochmal etwas Feuchtfröhliches zum Schmunzeln.

Meine Tastatur gibt so langsam den Geist auf und andere Ausreden, weshalb die Beschreibung wieder so kurz ausfällt, gibt es nur bei uns. Aber nicht in dieser Folge, denn wir reden viel lieber über einen gehackten veganen Koch und das remake von Star Wars - Knight of the old Republic. Letzteres löst bei Thomas leichtes Unbehagen aus. Simon hat Urlaub und arbeitet fleißg seine Piles of Shame an Flimen und Spielen ab. Aktuell sitzt er an der Watch Dogs Spielereihe und erklärt warum er so viel Spaß damit hat. Natürlich gibt es diese Woche auch wieder ein paar politische Aufreger, #Pimmelgate und "hängt die Grünen". Einfach mal googeln oder noch besser, die Folge anhören. Und dabei wünschen wir viel Spaß!

George Orwell wäre vor Neid erblasst, ob der Ideen zur Überwachung ihrer Bürger, auf die sowohl die britische als auch, jetzt neu, de australische Regierung kommen. China schwebt, was das angeht, schon längst in anderen Sphären und versucht aktuell Minderjährigen die Spielzeit in Onlinespielen zu begrenzen. Und wir haben in dieser Woche noch eine Gemeinsamkeit zweier Länder als Thema. Genauso wie im Herbst in den USA, gibt es auch hierzulande Personen, die Stimmung gegen die Briefwahl machen. Bei den Amis waren es die Republikern, bei uns ist es die BILD und deren Argumente sind ähnlich dumm. De Woche war News-mäßig also wieder eine riesige Shitshow und wir wünschen viel Spaß beim Anhören!

Nachdem uns die letzte Folge physisch und psychisch ausgelaugt hat, lassen wir es diese Woche etwas ruhiger angehen und reden mal ganz gemütlich darüber wie wir jede Woche dieses mediale Meisterwerk produzieren. Doch davor haben wir zwei kleinere Themen. In dem einen geht es um Diskriminierung, in dem anderen um böse Eltern. Viel Spaß beim Anhören!!

Hallo, mein Name ist Simon und ich habe ein Problem. Was dieses Problem ist, das erfahrt ihr in dieser Folge, wenn wir (endlich!!!) die 36 Fragen zum Verlieben abschließen. Jetzt brauchen wir aber ein neues Dauerprojekt, Vorschläge sind willkommen. Wir haben diese Folge am Samstag 14.08. aufgenommen. Das ist wichtig und das solltest Du (ja, genau DU) im Hinterkopf behalten, wenn Du unseren Plausch über die (nicht mehr ganz so) aktuelle Situation in Afghanistan hörst. Stichwort: Shit hit the fan. Damit dürfte auch schon klar sein, dass diese Folge einen eher ernsten Anstrich hat. Wir wünschen Dir (richtig, DU bist wieder gemeint) dennoch viel Vergnügen beim Anhören! "Shoot the Messenger" hat sich die CDU gedacht, als sie auf Sicherheitslücken in ihrer Wahlkampf-App CDUconnect hingewiesen wurde und hat direkt mal Anzeige gegen die CCC-Aktivistin gestellt, die so nett war die Partei auf die Fehler in der App hinzuweisen. Klingt eher unklug, ist es auch. Genauso unklug ist es einen Haufen Mitarbeiter aufgrund schwindeliger Big-Data-Analysen zu entlassen, wenn man gerade dabei ist eine neue Cloud-Finanzierungsplattform zu releasen. So geschehen beim Unternehmen Xsolla. Und mindestens gleichermaßen unklug ist es in Hollywoood Vertragsbruch zu begehen und zu denken, dass deine Hauptdarsteller das einfach so mit sich machen lassen. Looking at you, Disney!! Ach ja und Olympia war ja auch. Wie wir dabei auf das Thema Pferdewurst kommen, hört ihr in der aktuellen Folge. Viel Spaß dabei!

Die Fähigkeit in die Zukunft zu schauen wäre schon etwas Feines, z.B. bei Lotto Zahlen, beim Wetter, bei Wahlen der eben bei Verbrechen. Genau darin versucht sich jetzt ein Police Department in Florida. Ganz so cool wie im Film Minority Report läuft das aber nicht. Eigentlich ist das Ganz nur eine Gefahrenanalyse basierend auf Racial Profiling. Damit hat unser kürzestes Thema auch schon direkt am meisten Text spendiert bekommen. Außerdem reden wir noch über Blizzard und deren Besuche in der Cosby Suite, über die Magie der Disney Filme und über Schwurbler. Bon appétit!

Die neue Netflix He-Man Serie fällt bei den Zuschauern durch und der namensgebende Hauptcharakter wird zum "Cuck" (Zitat: Thomas). Gleichzeitig bestätigt Netflix Gerüchte, wonach der Film-Streamingdienst zukünftig Videospiele zu seinem Portfolio hinzufügen möchte. Außerdem reden wir noch über einen neuen Spielmodus im kommenden Battlefield 2042, der es uns erlaubt mit einem Kübelwagen eine Osprey zu bekämpfen - zumindest laut Trailer. Leider ist diese Folge auch wieder etwas kürzer, da Simon aufgrund seiner Zweitimpfung ziemlich mitgenommen war. Laut einger Aussage war es fast so schlimm wie eine Männergrippe! Lasst euch trotzdem impfen!!! Lieber ein, zwei Tage scheisse fühlen, als mit Schlauch im Hals krepieren.

50% Valve Steam Deck, 50% Film-Nostalgie, 10% anderes Zeug - macht 100% Unterhaltung. Mathe war eben noch nie unsere Stärke, sonst wären wir auch Steuerberater geworden.

Vorweg ein kleiner Disclaimer: Unsere Besprechung des "San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus" Themas beruht auf der Faktenlage zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme (10.07.2021). Diese kann sich seitdem geändert haben. Und wir würden sagen, was unsere anderen Themen sind, da dürft ihr euch jetzt mal komplett überraschen lassen. Viel Spaß!!

Die heutige Folge ist leider etwas kürzer, da Simon während der Aufnahme spontan weg musste. Doch in der Kürze liegt ja bekanntlich auch die Würze, so schaffen wir es dann doch einige Filme und Serien abzuhandeln, die wir in letzter Zeit gesehen haben.
