In this episode, you’re going to hear from our very own in-house legal counsel here at Funded Today, Thomas Alvord. He’s going to give you the insider’s look at everything you should be considering when it comes to business law, contracts, and just running your new business. So let’s get started… ---------------------------------------------------------------- ⭐ During this episode, we detail these takeaways:  1. Entrepreneurs should prioritize developing a viable business over protecting themselves legally, as the latter is pointless without (and funded by) the former, and they should expect legal issues to grow in proportion to their business size.  2. Entrepreneurs in the USA should minimize their taxes by chartering a “holding company” to own their business, limit their personal liability by incorporating their business (perhaps initially as an LLC that transitions eventually into either a C corp or an S corp), obtain a federal EIN for their business, and transact all business in its name.  3. Business owners should choose their first hires (who may become their biggest competitors) carefully, hire them with non-compete agreements, and always treat their employees well.  4. Business owners should compose brief clear contracts with good mechanisms for resolving disputes, and always try to resolve disputes amicably before resorting to either arbitration or expensive lawsuits.  5. Business owners should seek legal counsel as necessary, but minimize use of lawyers, as they are expensive and may sometimes prioritize their own interests above their clients’ interests.  6. Crowdfunding campaigners should ensure that they are not violating any intellectual property rights before launching campaigns, but avoid paying excessive attention to filing for trademarks and copyrights and patents (which may include provisional patents).  7. Amazon sellers should obtain US trademarks, which will enable them to enhance their Amazon listings with valuable “enhanced brand content.” ✍️ Click here for this episode’s complete show notes! ----------------------------------------------------------------

In this episode, we’re going to talk about the single-most-effective way to generate the best possible conversions for your invention. After testing HUNDREDS of other methods and marketing mediums, this one simple strategy trumps all the rest—and it’s not even close just how well this strategy converts as compared to ANY other method we’ve tested. To do so, we’re bringing on another special guest, the jack-of-all-trades get-’er-done closer himself, Mr. Colton Bybee, the Director of Outreach at Funded Today. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ⭐ During this episode, we detail these takeaways:  1. It’s important to update backers regularly—usually about twice weekly, depending upon exactly how communicative they want you to be, which they’ll generally tell you—at the time-of-day that’s best for wherever most of them live.  2. It’s helpful to end each backer update by introducing no more than five cross-promotions (which may also be called “cross-collaborations” or “CCs”) arranged with other campaigns, even if a few backers complain about it.  3. Cross-promotions should never feature competitors’ projects, but they fare best when featuring complimentary projects, although they still do well featuring unrelated campaigns, especially campaigns that have attracted high percentages of repeat backers.  4. Not all backers will read cross-promotions, nor click on them, but those who respond to them will normally convert at unusually-high rates of up to 20% or so, which is far more than the average rate of about 1%-3% (depending upon average pledge size)—and, conversely, if cross-promotion traffic doesn’t convert, then it’s almost guaranteed that no other traffic will convert, either.  5. Some popular campaigns have raised over $50,000 directly from cross-promotions alone—and, just like with other forms of crowdfunding marketing, increased pledges from cross-promotions generally encourage increased pledges from all other sources. ✍️ Click here for this episode’s complete show notes! ----------------------------------------------------------------

In this episode, we’re going to get a little bit deeper into pre-launch. There’s no one in the entire rewards-based crowdfunding space who has generated more e-mailing addresses and more interest for new inventions and businesses than our very own Director of Lead-Generation & Affiliate Marketing at Funded Today, Mr. Tevin Christopher. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ⭐ During this episode, we detail these takeaways:  1. College isn’t essential to either learn or prosper.  2. Crowdfunding success isn’t about either chance or “magic,” but about adhering to fundamental business principles, including in pre-launch phase—and it’s ideal to be first to enter a market, but only if you come sufficiently prepared.  3. Kickstarter campaigns should launch with a thorough prototype section, with funding goals that are not only high enough to seem legitimate but also low enough to avoid daunting people, and with support from Google Analytics to effectively analyze marketing data.  4. It helps to engage in pre-launch marketing among both personal contacts and generated leads (obtained through social-media ads), who can not only provide useful feedback to creators but also help creators to reach their respective funding goals as quickly as possible, which is a great advantage.  5. Leads may be e-mailed 24 hours before a campaign launches to prepare them, during launch to mobilize them to pledge, 24 hours after launch to report progress, weekly thereafter, daily again during a campaign’s final 3 days, and then weekly or monthly afterward as long as those leads continue to yield revenue.  6. Affiliates include backers who get paid a small cut for bringing pledges to campaigns, whether from themselves or from others, which contribute to a campaign’s success.  7. Influencers can also help (although not usually as significantly), especially those with sizable audiences that sufficiently fit one’s product—and they are best arranged in advance so that they enjoy ample time to receive a product and review it. ✍️ Click here for this episode’s complete show notes! ----------------------------------------------------------------

In this episode, we’re busting out our secret weapon. There’s even a bit of some “water cooler talk” going on at Funded Today, that this guy is “THE Crowd Whisperer.” If there’s anyone in the entire crowdfunding universe who has an eye for a great product and how to create one yourself, it’s this man, our very own Director of Client Specialists at Funded Today, Mr. Curtis Child. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ⭐ During this episode, we detail these takeaways:  1. Learn as much as possible from your competitors’ campaigns about what helped render their products and/or presentations successful.  2. Before you ever launch a campaign, back some campaigns, both to familiarize yourself with the crowdfunding process and to establish yourself as part of the crowdfunding community.  3. Crowdfunding backers constitute a community with certain commonalities, and you can expect most of your project’s backers to be repeat not new.  4. The crowdfunding community seems to notice campaigns more readily when they use attractive uncluttered thumbnail images created from high-quality soft photographs of trendily-colored products on white backgrounds.  5. Crowdfunding campaigns raise funds better anytime they’re the first to offer the crowdfunding community a desirable innovation to a ubiquitous product, rather than marginally improving upon a previous project, although the latter can also enjoy success.  6. Rather than marginally improving upon someone else’s original idea, campaigners might succeed better by applying an already-successful innovation to an entirely-different product.  7. Many crowdfunding campaigners expect to raise $1,000,000 but don’t—but short-term success does not correlate with long-term success. ✍️ Click here for this episode’s complete show notes! ----------------------------------------------------------------

Persistent experimentation-and-learning (despite failure) is a key to entrepreneurial success.  2. It’s good to try to offer customers what you can do better than anyone else (or few others).  3. If you provide a sufficiently-good service, then your clients will help market it for free; relatedly, you can judge that you have a good business idea when you don’t need to pay to market it.  4. Don’t market blindly (if possible) but collect data, analyze it, and base your decisions upon it.  5. Spend as much money as possible as long as it remains profitable to do so.  6. Start lean while you focus on providing a good product/service before bothering with peripheral things like business cards.  7. Growth always requires time, so don’t expect to become a massive company “overnight.” ✍️ Click here for this episode’s complete show notes! ----------------------------------------------------------------

Zach and Thomas decided to join forces about 2.5 years ago and now Funded Today is the world's largest crowd-funding platform – a place for someone with an idea to raise money to get the process started for their new product or idea. In 2.5 years, they've raised $110 Million and exceeded the 7-figure market quickly. Email your top take-aways and learnings to Casey@CaseyGraham.com TOP TAKE-AWAYS MAKE THE NUMBERS MEANINGFUL It's important to have key metrics you look at and hold your team accountable and visibility to review them at any time. In general, entrepreneurs live off gut while CEOs live off dashboards. The larger your company the more important it is to have clear, accurate data to be able to make informed decisions. Keeping up with numbers will also allow you to view month over month and year over year data for good comparisons. PARETO PRINCIPLE (80/20) Pareto Principle implies that only 20% of your efforts produce 80% of your results. This principle makes knowing your numbers so important. You have to know your metrics – the one you care the most about and a few others that help lead you to that number. This principle is true regardless of what industry you are in or what type of product or service you're selling. YOUR TARGET MARKET The first thing you must decide when selling is your target market. Ask the questions: Who is your market? How big is the market? How fast is it growing? Can you be the leader in the market? Once you have the right marketplace, you can systematize your sales process so that more than just you can sell your product/service. You elevate yourself by letting go of the sales and empower others to run the sales. Once you have someone else running sales, determine what other products or services you could offer that compliment your core offering. HOW TO THINK BIGGER IN YOUR BUSINESS Use Thomas and Zach's SLCRR approach to ask the questions to generate new ideas and ways to increase sales, profits and value. S – Services – what other services can we sell? L – Leads – what can we do to get more visitors? C – Close – how can we close more leadss? R – Results – how can we create greater results to add more value for our clients? R – Repeat – how can you get repeat business? Email your top take-aways and learnings to Casey@CaseyGraham.com

On this episode of Crowdfunding Uncut, Khierstyn chats with the co-founders of Funded Today, one of the most successful crowdfunding consultancies in existence. The Funded Today guys believe smart entrepreneurs and business owners who want to raise LOTS of money on Kickstarter or Indiegogo must become master marketers, sales experts, and direct response gurus. But the reality is that most of them are so busy building a world-class product that they can’t do any of those things, which are full-time jobs in their own right. That’s why Funded Today exists. They’ve built a company that specializes in those things so you don’t have to. On this episode, you’ll hear from Josh and Thomas, the co-founders of Funded Today. When you don’t need a marketing budget.   One of the things Josh and Thomas from Funded Today have discovered is that when you are using paid advertising - whether on the Google ads platform, Facebook ads, or even direct mail - there can often come a time when you don’t have to worry about your marketing budget and can freely keep on spending money. What’s the scenario where that can happen? It’s when your ad-spend is less than the revenue you’re making minus all your expenses. In that case, you’ve got the green light to keep advertising because your net gain is going up as long as you do. It’s an obvious mindset to some people and a mindset shift for others. You can hear how it works in this situation, on this episode.   How the Funded Today team validates products before moving forward with them.   If you were to reach out to the Funded Today team to find out what it would take for them to come alongside your product to make it a crowdfunding success, what you’d find is a process that takes you through a handful of phases. At the front end, you’ll be required to go through a validation process where your product idea and current resources will be analyzed and evaluated for both potential and ability to succeed. It’s one of the ways the Funded Today guys have found that they are able to increase the success of those who partner with them - by only moving forward with those who have the greatest chance of success. It’s an intriguing idea that will give you lots ideas for how you can increase YOUR product's chances of success, so don't miss it!   Crowdfunding is really about two things: Funding and validation.   Though the word “funding” is a part of the name and the fundraising aspect is what most of us think of, Crowdfunding is about more than raising money. The crowdfunding model also enables you to validate a product idea. Is it truly driven by market demands? Is there enough interest by a large enough demographic to warrant a reasonable expectation of success? Is your marketing message dialed-in and effective? These and other questions are answered by the crowdfunding process. Through the many crowdfunding campaigns the team at Funded Today has managed, they’ve taken the time to analyze and understand the data so that they can best advise their clients and make every campaign a success. Thomas and Zach share a ton of great information on this episode of Crowdfunding Uncut, so be sure you make the time to listen.   There’s a lot of value in telling someone their crowdfunding baby isn’t as cute as they think.   The main reason the Funded Today crowdfunding management process has been so successful is that they validate every potential client at the front end of their relationship. It’s a lengthy, in-depth assessment of the probability of success the product might enjoy. Sometimes the numbers and facts don’t come out looking very hopeful. That’s when Thomas and Zach of the Funded Today team say that it’s better to tell the product developer that their dream product - their baby - is not as beautiful as they think it is. The way Zach says it is this: If they can’t raise the funds for your product, nobody can. That means you probably need to rethink your product. Get insights from these two guys on this episode. If so, Kickstarter and Indiegogo are your tools and Zach Smith from Funded Today is your guide to raising capital for your business using crowdfunding. Funded Today Crowdfunding Success Matrix Funded Today Blog Crowdfunding Cashback Network Display TranscriptRobert Plank: Zach Smith is going to talk to us today about crowdsourcing. Now Zach is a serial entrepreneur, never having had a real job his entire life. He is always starting, selling, running, and managing businesses. Zach loves helping others turn their dreams, ideas, and inspirations into successful companies, and this passion lead to his creation of Funded Today LLC, which is America's most successful crowdfunding firm, and the largest provider of crowdfunding marketing services worldwide. I'm excited. Can we talk about it? So you guys strap yourselves in. Zach, how are things today? Zach Smith: Doing real well. Thanks for having me on your show today, Robert. Robert Plank: Cool, I'm glad you're here, because this is a new topic that I don't know much about, but I've seen it kind of take off. I've seen it get popularity. So crowdfunding, what the heck is it? Zach Smith: So crowdfunding is basically a way to raise money, that over the last few years has become extremely popular. There's a lot of different types of crowdfunding, but we'll just cut out all of that. The part of crowdfunding that we focusing on is called rewards-based crowdfunding, and that means that people essential preorder new ideas on sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. So let's say I've invented a cool new watch, and this watch does all kinds of fancy features. I might have a prototype of just one such watch. Well I film a video, I talk about this watch, I talk about how I want to bring it into mass production, and I tell people for $250 you can preorder this watch that I have on my wrist, and I'll make one for you just like the one I have here, and then people pay $250 to get this watch. There's no catches, there's no strings attached. You don't have to give up any equity in your business, and people do this to the tune of millions and millions of dollars. Funded Today, like you mentioned in your intro, has done that more so than anybody else in the world for thousands of different inventors now. Robert Plank: Awesome. So you're the guy to talk to. I've seen every now and then... Before the show started recording we were talking a little like, Indiegogo and Kickstarter, people have used that to bankroll movies and TV shows and stuff like that. Plus on the practical side, every now and then I'll see something. I'll see someone will invent a camera that allows them to talk to their pets and dispense pet food remotely. Zach Smith: I saw that one, yeah. Robert Plank: Yeah, that's the most... That's the one that comes to mind the most when I think of crowdfunding and Kickstarter type of stuff, but it's also practical enough, something like a multimillion dollar movie and stuff like that. Using the watch example, someone says "I'm going to design the watch." So what are the steps then? I guess they sign up for a site like Kickstarter, they make a webpage. I guess maybe they can make a prototype or a graphic, and then people can preorder the watch. So the thing that I was curious about as you were explaining it, let's say that you, Zach Smith, say you can preorder this watch for $200. I preorder the watch and then what happens, because I've seen some of these say we need a hundred backers or something like that. What happens if they don't get adequate funding for that project? Zach Smith: Yeah, great question. As an entrepreneur, you want to know how much it's going to cost you to build this watch, so let's say that your MOQ, your minimum order quantity, is 1000 watches. You've talked to manufacturers, you've talked to suppliers,
