Earlier this year Melbourne rock outfit Cicadastone released their third album, Future Echoes. An album that typified Cicadastone's sound, Future Echoes was also the band's first album under new label XMusic and solidified Cicadastone's reputation as a musical star on the rise.Creating a hybrid of rock and grunge that is accentuated by a fresh, modern approach, Cicadastone's music has always been ideal for both a full-blown rock assault and the quiet strains of acoustic, so, with the blessing of their label, the band decided to strip back a selection of tracks from Future Echoes and compile them into an easily digestible acoustic EP that was unleashed on the public today.Frontman Mat Robins sat down for a chat with HEAVY to tell us more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Interview by Kris PetersAfter showing their potential over two previous albums Chance Collide and Cold Chamber, Melbourne rock outfit Cicadastone are ready to seal the deal with their third long player Future Echoes, which is out now.Taking the best bits and ideas from those first releases and putting them into the cauldron that is Cicadastone 2024, the band has created an album with a modern fresh edge, developing their own unique sound while staying truly authentic to the genre.Vocalist Mat Robins sat down with HEAVY to tell us more."I'm so relieved," he smiled when asked how it feels to get the new album out. "It's been such a journey. As any band will know, from the process of writing through to pre-production through to recording through to mixing and mastering and releasing it takes a long time. To get to the point where we could finally put it out there and put it to bed so to speak, let it go, it's great. We can move on as a band too."Being their third album, we ask Mat if the process gets easier or harder as you get further into your career."You'd think it would get easier, but I think it's getting harder," he measured. "We all have a lot of ties. We're all busy doing things. I'd love to say we're making a living out of music, but we're not. The band is its own entity which we pour our heart and soul into. That said, we all have lives to live. This record was really hard to lock everyone down and find time where we could. It took a bit longer than it probably should have, but that's just how it went."In the full interview, Mat talks more about Future Echoes, the single Take The Fall which Cicadastone released at the same time and why it was chosen to represent the album on release day, the other singles released and how they tie in with the album, the cover art and what it means, how Future Echoes differs musically to their debut album Chance Collide, their love for grunge music and decision to stick with it despite the changing trends of music, upcoming shows and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Aaaaand I'm back! Busy, busy, busy time of year and this episode will be a quick one...which was sort of the intention in the first place. I went and saw Brutus live last week, you should not miss them if they come to your town. I also dig into Renewer, Bandhood and Oslo Tapes. Ramble on way too long about how those core memories of yours meeting your favorite bands are not core memories of theirs...sorry, they just aren't, and urge you all to go watch the KEXP session with New Age Doom. Plus, I dig into an artist I have been fanboying over lately, Lola Young. Probably not what you'd be expecting on this show, but give her a listen and you too may fall hard for her music. Think Adele if she grew up a grimy punk. Opening clip for Future Echoes with just JD
Interview by Kris PetersRising from the ashes of the grunge era, Melbourne rock outfit Cicadastone have spent just over ten years refining their sound amid a musical revolution that saw their style of music shunned from mainstream darlings to backseat troublemakers.Following their 2016 debut Chance Collide, Cicadastone found strength in the fact that although grunge-infused rock was generally on the outer, people started gravitating towards their version of it. With more than a passing nod to some of the heavyweights of that musical movement, Cicadastone quickly set about sprinkling their own DNA into the mix and by 2020's Cold Chamber their efforts in bringing together music from all corners of the rock spectrum were beginning to be noticed. For their third, and most decisive album to date, Cicadastone have signed with new label XMusic and are obviously enjoying the freedom to allow their natural creativity to dictate the sonic balance of their music. The result is Future Echoes - out May 31 -, an album that draws from both previous albums, but also shows Cicadastone's musical growth and diversity like never before. The band last week dropped lead single In The Crossfire, a meaty slab of rock goodness that offers a glimpse inside Future Echoes while only scratching at the surface.HEAVY sat down with vocalist Mat Robins to find out more, starting with In The Crossfire."It's just one of these riffs that I had lying around for a long time and I couldn't do anything with it," he began. "And then one day it all happened in half an hour. I bashed the song together and jotted down the lyrics and found my focus. It all came together really fast, and we demoed the song, and it was the last song that we wrote for the record. But it's probably the most radio-friendly rock single we've got, so it worked out pretty good."We ask why the band chose In The Crossfire as the first single."I just think it's the most obvious, forthright song," he shrugged. "It's got the pace - we're predominantly a band that doesn't push pace. We love our sludgy, slow riffs (laughs). The label were eager to push the faster songs, so it was an obvious choice."In the full interview, Mat talks more about In The Crossfire, Future Echoes as a whole, what they were going for musically with it, the press release claims that it is Cicadastone's biggest statement yet, how it is a new chapter in the band's history, signing to XMusic and what it means for the band moving forward, how Cicadastone have grown musically over the three albums, their upcoming Stay Gold gig with The Midnight Devils and more.
In this second episode of Future Echoes, I dig into Vancouver, BC band, New Age Doom, their newest album, There is No End, featuring Tuvaband, as well as an album they did with Lee Scratch Perry, "...Guide to the Universe". I then take a look back at their drummer's other band, who I fell in love with while living in Vancouver, Limblifter. You should also check out Mounties, if you dig Limblifter.Plus, we cover some news, tours, new album announcements and so much more! I also dig into upcoming releases and announced tours. A bit longer than the last, but hope you enjoy the show. ++++Send me your echoes or up-and-coming bands: blyndsub@gmail.comOpening clip for Future Echoes with just JD
Not really a "welcome back" but more of a "JD got bored and needed to ramble out loud to himself about music". The point of Future Echoes — surprisingly, not an homage to Slomatics, but I do love them — is to have fun remembering great music from the past and digging into the new what next! Showing us old folks that great music is certainly still being made, you just got too busy to search it out, and hopefully introducing you young'uns to bands that influenced who you listen to today. Will there still be heavier music? Yep, but not entirely. Prepare for a JD overdose with lots of lip smacking, heavy breathing (I really need to find that pop filter) and rambling galore++++In this episode, JD remembers how much he loved Ministry, as they have announced that their next album will be their last. Al is 65!!And then he urges you to check out Blues Funeral Records, then dig into the back catalog of Abrams, whose next album will be coming out on Blues Funeral soon.++++Send me your echoes or up-and-coming bands: blyndsub@gmail.comOpening clip for Future Echoes with just JD

O tym wszystkim opowie ONE AND ONLY Paweł Andrzej Drygas!
New melodies are featured and evolved in our latest episode. The lead lines set the pace for this set of new tunes from Studio "V". The songs: "A JOURNEY CONTINUES", "ON HIGHWAY 1", "BLUESY SIGH", "MY MELODY TO YOU" and "FUTURE ECHOES". Enjoy!
A horrible episode, barely worth listening to. It's literally 9.5hrs of us yelling at each other about the same things over and over again. Going in painful, angry circles. Samtalet i ”skivcirkeln” behandlar Holes andra album ”Live Through This” från 1994. Goits, Gits, Gimps and Gimboids of all ages, gather round as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Red Dwarf. A scouse poet, an impressionist with big nostrils, a dancer and a stand up comedian who spends his entire time sitting down, live (and die) in a spaceship while being obscenely rude to each other and not meeting aliens. So, if you're a white-hatted ponce, a 6-breasted Quagaar warrior woman, or even if you look something like a roast chicken, then order yourself some blackcurrant cordial with blancmange and two creams and a sugar and reminisce with us about the day that Frankenstein didn't go to Fiji. If that made any sense at all, I worry abut you.
Look at Yourself, Demons and Wizards и The Magician's Birthday, считающиеся классикой хард-рока.
