Initially, God dwelled and fellowshipped with man and would always come in the cool of the day for fellowship with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:8). When sin came, the Lord drove man away from His presence (Genesis 3:23-24), but looked for a way to reconcile man back unto His presence.

In a message about relationships, Sara Jukes shares about Elijah (1 Kings 17) and two important lessons we can learn from his life, lessons that also appear in the lives of Adam and Eve (Genesis 2-3). The first lesson is to trust God to provide the right people in our lives. Just as God provided Eve for Adam, he provided the right people for Elijah at the times he needed. The second lesson - which really should be the first - is that we need to admit that we need God more than any other person. Adam and Eve needed God more than anyone else, as did Elijah! We need to depend on God and force the independence out of us. The good news is that, like He did with Elijah, God wants to redeem, restore and recommission us. How God Speaks to us Does God speak? Old Testament:Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:9-19).Noah (Genesis 6:13-22).Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3)Sarah (Genesis 18:9-15).Moses (Exodus 3:1-10) Aaron (Exodus 28:1-3).Miriam (Numbers 12:1-15)Joshua (Joshua 1:1-9)Samuel (1 Samuel 3:1-18)David (2 Samuel 12:1-15)Solomon (1 Kings 3:5-14).Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1-13).Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:4-10).Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:1-3).Daniel (Daniel 7:1-28).Elijah (1 Kings).Jonah (Jonah 1:1-2).New Testament:Mary (Luke 1:26-38).Joseph (Matthew 1:20-24; Matthew 2:13-15).Zacharias (Luke 1:5-25).Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-45).The Shepherds (Luke 2:8-20).The Wise Men (Matthew 2:12).Simeon (Luke 2:25-35).Paul (Acts 9:1-19) Does God still speak today? Yes and No. If you hear God, you might not be crazy.96% of evangelicals talk to God, 45% believe God talks to them.Do you hear His voice? There is no formula. Hebrews 1:1-4 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. How does God speak? Prayer Acts 12:12-17 When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. 13 And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 Recognizing Peter's voice, in her joy she did not open the gate but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the gate. 15 They said to her, “You are out of your mind.” But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, “It is his angel!” 16 But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened, they saw him and were amazed. 17 But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place. Mother Teresa (1910-1997 CE)"God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer."Scripture 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. Spiritual Leaders and Communities2 Peter 1:19-21 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Morning Star - “Light Bringer” Phosphorous - illumines hearts “carried along” = pheromenoi. Luke used this word in referring to a sailing vessel carried along by the wind Nature and Creation Romans 1:19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Unlocked: Daily Devotions for Teens

How often do you think about words? Words are tools for describing reality, and sometimes, the reality is so deep and important, whole books of words hardly scratch the surface of the idea's fullness. In that case, we sometimes try to come up with a single word to wrap all the parts of an idea in a tidy package..One of these big words is "atonement." This one word holds the fullness of God's plan for your own life—and everything else in all creation. Every time we come across the word atonement, we get to remember the good news about Jesus. Something should fire in our minds about the deeper meaning of this word, our eyes open to a world where Jesus is the atonement..The English word "atone" comes from the two words: "at one." So, in my opinion, it shouldn't be pronounced “ah-tone-ment.” Instead, we should say “at-one-ment” because atonement is reconciliation with God and being “at one” with Him. It reminds us of how Jesus's death and resurrection turn back the clock on the fall of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3), inviting us to re-enter Eden in perfect fellowship with God. Jesus's work of atonement completely reverses our rebellion against God's love, majesty, and authority. His Holy Spirit moves us to agree with Him so we, too, desire that His will be done on earth and in our own lives. Through this one-ness with Him, He compels us to turn away from sin and toward loving relationship with Him..And this one-ness doesn't just apply to our individual relationships with God—it applies to all of creation. Through Jesus's death and resurrection, God has made the way for heaven and earth to be one, as they were in the Garden of Eden. At Jesus's return, all will be made new. We can celebrate that in Him is found all glory and honor and power forever (Revelation 7:12)..There are many pages and books devoted to the full significance of Jesus's atoning sacrifice on the cross, but if you can remember this one little pronunciation tip, you can remember instantly that through Jesus, we can be AT ONE with God—and that is the heart of atonement. • Andrew and Lydia Huntress.• God is the source of all goodness and life, which is why being “at one” with Him is the best place to be. And through Jesus's death and resurrection, we can live in this one-ness without having to earn or achieve it— Jesus already did the work. How could resting in this truth affect the way we interact with God and others?.He [Jesus Christ] himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1 John 1:2 (NLT)

Adam and EveGenesis • May 21, 2023Teacher: Dave Brown--1. Image bearers2. Made to work3. Helpers1. Image bearersGenesis 1:26-27 NIVThen God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.Gregory of NyssaThis same language was not used for (the creation) of other things.  The command was simple when light was created; God said, “Let there be light.”  Heaven was also made without deliberation…See how worthy you are! Your origins are not in an imperative.  Instead, God deliberated about the best way to being to life a creation worthy of honor. How are we like God? Genesis 5:1b-3 NIVWhen God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created. When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. Dietrich BonhoefferTo say that in humankind God creates the image of God on each means that humankind is like the Creator in that it is free…freedom is a relation between two persons.  Being free means “being-free-for-the-other”, because I am bound to the other.  Only being in relation with the other am I free. 2. Made to WorkGenesis 2:3 NIVBy the seventh day God has finished the work he had been doing, so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.Genesis 2:15 NIVThe Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. John GoldingayThe “work” will surely be a joy.  We may have seen men “cultivating the land with such pleasure that it is severe punishment for them to be called away from it to something else,” even now when enjoyment of this work has been marred by humanity's disobedience.  The audience is invited to think of it as it was designed… Ephesians 2:10 NIVFor we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. 3. HelpersGenesis 1:26-27 NIVThen God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 2:18 NIVThe Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” John GoldingayThe human being will need appropriate help…usually “help” denotes someone strong and powerful who can help by getting one out of a mess; the term nearly always refers to Yahweh.Deuteronomy 33:7 NIVAnd this he said about Judah: “Hear, Lord, the cry of Judah; bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause. Oh, be his help against his foes!”Psalm 121:1-2 NIVI lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.Psalm 146:5 NIVBlessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their GodEphesians 5:31-32 NIV“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

God is not against socialization, society, or having a social life however, He is against us engaging in those which the devil has hijacked. The devil continually seeks for mankind to lose the image and likeness of God. And, we see this play out from when divine beings noticed how attractive and beautiful human women were and took the ones that pleased them as wives (Genesis 6:2) & up to this age of gender confusion. God is a social God and created mankind likewise to socialize, this was the key reason the female mankind (Genesis 1: 26-27) manifested physically in the person of Eve (Genesis 2: 18;21-25). So it begins!! Over the next few episodes we will be diving into the various denizens of the kingdom of darkness. Who will we find lurking there? Well to start this series off, we will be looking at the “nacash” of Genesis 3. Though we will not have time in this one episode to trace the “serpent” from Genesis to Revelation, we'll at least get a start on him. This episode will introduce the figure and we will discuss many of the qualities Moses ascribes of him, including the new ones given to him during the curse. And yes, we all know him by his name “Satan” but keep in mind that it is not until much, much later in biblical history that the name “Satan” is given to this serpent figure we see in Genesis. That's something John does in the book of Revelation, which we will discuss in our next episode. For now, I would encourage you to listen to this episode with fresh ears (eyes? or mind?) and let us see what we can start to learn about the “nacash”! Today we will look at how he approach both Eve and Sarah.Eve Genesis 3:1And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, `You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 "but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, `You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' 4 And the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.'' 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.Sarah 76 And Satan went to Sarah, and he appeared to her in the figure of an old man very humble and meek, and Abraham was yet engaged in the burnt offering before the Lord. 77 And he said unto her, Dost thou not know all the work that Abraham has made with thine only son this day? for he took Isaac and built an altar, and killed him, and brought him up as a sacrifice upon the altar, and Isaac cried and wept before his father, but he looked not at him, neither did he have compassion over him. 78 And Satan repeated these words, and he went away from her, and Sarah heard all the words of Satan, and she imagined him to be an old man from amongst the sons of men who had been with her son, and had come and told her these things. 79 And Sarah lifted up her voice and wept and cried out bitterly on account of her son; and she threw herself upon the ground and she cast dust upon her head, and she said, O my son, Isaac my son, O that I had this day died instead of thee. And she continued to weep and said, It grieves me for thee, O my son, my son Isaac, O that I had died this day in thy stead. 80 And she still continued to weep, and said, It grieves me for thee after that I have reared thee and have brought thee up; now my joy is turned into mourning over thee, I that had a longing for thee, and cried and prayed to God till I bare thee at ninety years old; and now hast thou served this day for the knife and the fire, to be made an offering. 81 But I console myself with thee, my son, in its being the word of the Lord, for thou didst perform the command of thy God; for who can transgress the word of our God, in whose hands is the soul of every living creature? 82 Thou art just, O Lord our God, for all thy works are good and righteous; for I also am rejoiced with thy word which thou didst command, and whilst mine eye weepeth bitterly my heart rejoiceth. 83 And Sarah laid her head upon the bosom of one of her handmaids, and she became as still as a stone. 84 She afterward rose up and went about making inquiries till she came to Hebron, and she inquired of all those whom she met walking in the road, and no one could tell her what had happened to her son. 85 And she came with her maid servants and men servants to Kireath-arba, which is Hebron, and she asked concerning her Son, and she remained there while she sent some of her servants to seek where Abraham had gone with Isaac; they went to seek him in the house of Shem and Eber, and they could not find him, and they sought throughout the land and he was not there. 86 And behold, Satan came to Sarah in the shape of an old man, and he came and stood before her, and he said unto her, I spoke falsely unto thee, for Abraham did not kill his son and he is not dead; and when she heard the word her joy was so exceedingly violent on account of her son, that her soul went out through joy; she died and was gathered to her people.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/622a9079e8fb640012cb94f3. Hi, I'm Beverley Joy of Simply Story. This poem tells the story of the unnamed woman's extravagant action in pouring a whole jar of expensive perfumed oil over Jesus' head dripping down to His feet found in Luke 7:36-50. Some commentaries say it was Mary Magdalene, some say, Mary, sister of Martha and Lazareth. I am leaving her nameless because the Bible does for a reason. The significance of what this woman does is the focus of the story. In Mark 14:1-11, this story of loving devotion to Jesus appears between two stories of hatred toward Jesus. This story tells of her love and devotion to Jesus and Jesus showing mercy and grace toward her. And again, Jesus stands up and protects a woman from the scoffs and criticism of the men. Rethinking Scripture Podcast - Episode 38: The Rethinking Babel ProjectMarch 15, 2022 - Host: Dr. Gregory Hall Some people think of the first eleven chapters of Genesis as only a prologue or filler to get to the story of Abraham. But it's in those chapters where key the theme of rebellion is first introduced. In the beginning chapters of Genesis we are also introduced to the idea of exile. These themes culminate in one short story in chapter eleven. It's about a tower reaching into the heavens and God confusing language to disrupt a rebellion. Referenced Resources:Walton, J. H. (2015). Philosopher and Christian apologist William Lane Craig's latest work, In Quest of the Historical Adam, is an impressive, bold interdisciplinary exploration into the historicity of Adam (and Eve). Analyzing key texts in the Old and New Testaments, Craig concludes that Scripture presents Adam as a historical person and progenitor of humanity who introduced moral evil into the] world through disobedience. Craig adopts an evolutionary perspective on humanity's origin. To reconcile a human evolutionary history with the biblical account of humanity's creation, he makes the case that Genesis 1–11 belongs to a genre called mytho-history (a sacred mythical origins narrative that also makes allusions to real people, places, and events). Craig holds the view that it is up to modern science to determine who Adam was and when he (and Eve) lived. Based on the evidence from anthropology, Craig provisionally concludes that Adam lived between 750,000 and 1,000,000 years ago as a member of the hominin species Homo heidelbergensis. Craig's theological and scientific conclusions. This episode focuses on the scientific issues — in particular, how symbolic artifacts in the fossil record provide compelling evidence that Adam (and Eve) are best understood as modern humans, who alone display cognitive capacities that reflect the image of God.This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author Fazale “Fuz” Rana about his article in the current issue (March 2022) 44:4 edition of the Christian Research Journal entitled, “Who Was Adam? What do you do with your sins?  Since the beginning, man has been in search of something to do with sin. From the account in Act One with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3) in the garden, to the story of Ananias and Saphira (Acts 5) in Act Two, our first response is to hide from others, but especially an All-Knowing God. During these "Days Of Awe," the 10 days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement, the Jewish community symbolically casts their sins into the depths of the sea.  You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate the redemptive story that is taking place in this season. In fact, we believe this will enhance and grow your faith in a God who has already cast our sins into the depths of the sea.  Who is a God like You, who pardons wrongdoing And passes over a rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy. He will again take pity on us; He will trample on our wrongdoings. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea. - Micah 7:18-19   Don't forget to subscribe so you never miss an episode!
