Welcome to Episode 81 of Tablesetters! Devin and Steve are back with a fast-moving, stat-packed dive into a wild week across Major League Baseball. We start in the Bronx, where the Yankees handed the game over to Devin Williams with a 3-0 lead in the 8th… and he handed it right back. Two outs, then chaos—after a hit and two walks, Luke Weaver gave up back-to-back two-run hits to cough up the lead entirely. Williams blamed the rain, but his ERA now sits above 10, and Yankee fans are losing patience. The Padres continue their surge despite losing both Fernando Tatis Jr. and manager Mike Shildt to ejections—they've now rattled off six straight wins. Over in Queens, the Mets are falling apart: AJ Minter (1.64 ERA) is out for the season with a lat tear, Danny Young needs Tommy John, and Jesse Winker's oblique strain will sideline him 6–8 weeks. Brett Baty's back, and Genesis Cabrera joins the pen—but the depth is running thin. And how about the Athletics? With a walk-off win over Seattle, they've gone 7-3 in their last 10 and sit just one game out of first place at 20-16. The Royals are also heating up, led by Cole Ragans, who returned from a minor groin issue and struck out 11 in his comeback start. KC has won three straight and is right in the AL Central mix. We also dive into a brutal round of IL stints across the league—Trout, Yordan, Imanaga, Jazz, Glasnow, Buehler, Casas, and Teoscar all out. We debate which loss is the toughest to absorb. Elsewhere: Bret Boone is now the hitting coach in Texas Jake Burger sent to Triple-A Leody Taveras claimed by the Mariners Evan Carter gets the call back Lance McCullers makes his first start since the 2022 World Series Plus, the Sub-2 ERA Crew continues to deal: Yamamoto (0.90), Max Fried (1.01), Mahle (1.19), Senga (1.38), Brown (1.67), Luzardo (1.94), and Kris Bubic (1.98) are all under 2.00. And in Take a Pitch/Swing Away, we take our swings at three big topics: Is Pete Crow-Armstrong's hot start sustainable? Could Aaron Judge actually chase a .400 Triple Crown? Is Sandy Alcantara's trade value completely shot with an 8.42 ERA? The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3, snapping the Phillies' 11-game home winning streak. This was a more typical Toronto Blue Jays game, having great starting pitching, just enough offense to keep them ahead, and a solid performance from the bullpen. Chris Bassitt had a huge bounceback game, getting swings on pitches outside of the strike zone, resulting in a ton of weak contact. Vladimir Guerrero Jr had a good day, hitting balls hard and going 3-5. The Blue Jays played some small ball in the 8th, taking advantage of hit and runs and some tough at-bats that resulted in hits. Jordan Romano did his best to try and blow the game for the Blue Jays but ended up getting a save and closing out the game for the Blue Jays. In this episode, we break down individual player performances, highlight plays, and give some sneak peeks regarding future episodes and video ideas your hosts are looking to bring you in the future. The Toronto Blue Jays lose another game, this one being against the Philadelphia Phillies 10-1. Jose Berrios got picked apart today, giving up eight runs in his first blow-up outing of the season. The offense continues to be subpar, only manufacturing one run in the game, while allowing the Phillies starting pitcher Christopher Sanchez to breeze through 7 innings. John Schneider got kicked out in today's game after a botched call by the third base umpire allowed Kyle Schwarber to reach base when he should have struck out. Ultimately, this led to Bryce Harper launching a grand slam into the right field seats. Overall, there is not a lot of positives to take from this game. WE NEED CHANGE. It is clear the Toronto Blue Jays offense has been subpar so far this season. As many fans have realized, the current Blue Jays batting order is not getting the job done. John Schneider's huge line-up shuffle consisted of swapping Daulton Varsho and Bo Bichette in the batting order while keeping George Springer leading off. We have decided to help John Schneider out with his decisions by making our batting orders to jumpstart this offense. Do you agree with our batting order? The Blue Jays pitching staff has had a roller coaster start to the 2024 season. With a plethora of injuries and abysmal pitching performances, we decided to break down a few members of this pitching staff, going over the good, the bad, and the ugly. How are you feeling about this Toronto Blue Jays pitching staff? Aaron Sanchez has returned to the Toronto Blue Jays on a minor-league deal. It seems like Ross Atkins has a new plan of attack for this team, trying to capture some 2015 magic for the 2024 Toronto Blue Jays. Where do we go from here? The Toronto Blue Jays lose the series 2-1 to the Washington Nationals. This was undoubtedly the worst series of the year. The Blue Jays only scored three runs against the worst pitcher in all of baseball, Patrick Corbin. While Yusei Kikuchi was dialed in, going 6 innings strong of one-run ball, the bullpen found a way to throw away the game. In game 2, the Washington Nationals tried their hardest to give the Blue Jays a million runs in the first inning, but the Blue Jays settled for 4. Jordan Romano had a classic Jordan Romano start, leaving people on the edge of their seats by bringing the tying run to the plate, but inevitably getting out of the jam. In game 3, Alek Manoah took the mound for the first time in the 2024 season. With the Blue Jays scoring 8 runs in the game, and the Washington Nationals again trying their hardest to help the Toronto Blue Jays offense, you would think they would come out with a victory. In this episode, we break down the Nationals series, giving our perspectives on what the Blue Jays did and did not do well during these three baseball games. With one of the craziest series of the year, there is a TON to talk about. We break it all down on this episode of Locked on Blue Jays. Ross Atkins is in his 9th season as the General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Under Ross Atkins, the Blue Jays have failed to win a playoff game since 2016, when Ross inherited a World Series contending team from Tony Lacavo, but really it was Alex Anthopoulos who built this team from the ground up. Ross Atkins has made some great trades in the past, but it has not led to success for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. This season, he went full out on pitching and defense to limit as many runs as possible. So far, his plan has not panned out. We break down some of Ross Atkin's biggest transactions with the Toronto Blue Jays, the team's success under his tenure, and what we can expect from the Toronto Blue Jays and Atkins for the rest of the season. The Toronto Blue Jays are 31 games into the season. We decided to take a look at players the Blue Jays decided to let go this offseason and compared them to players that are in the lineup in 2024. We exchanged: Matt Chapman, Whit Merrifield, Jordan Hicks, and Brandon Belt for IKF, and Justin Turner, but this allowed for players like Davis Schneider and Ernie Clement to see the field more often in 2024. We compare these players' starts to the season, discussing which decisions we agree and disagree with through the first month of the season. George Springer has been good this season, but why? Carter does a deep dive into George Springer's struggles, finding the root cause of Springer's slow start to the season. The Toronto Blue Jays have done the impossible. They have scored 6 runs for the first time since April 6th. This was a Justin Turner legacy game, as he smashed 2 pull-side home runs over the left-field wall. He continues to show his value not only on the baseball field but off it as well, helping Davis Schneider with his approach at the plate. The Blue Jays did something fans aren't accustomed to, they scored runs in multiple innings and had 3 home runs in a game for the first time since opening day. Yariel Rodriguez did not have his best stuff but fought hard to get through three and two-thirds innings with only 2 earned runs allowed. Addison Barger also picked up the first hit of his MLB career today. Hopefully, today served as a step for this offense, hoping to carry their momentum through the rest of the series. The Toronto Blue Jays narrowly avoided a sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers, losing the series 2-1. This offense stinks. Scoring seven runs in a three-game series is not going to be enough to beat one of the best offenses in the league. George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr are having horrible at-bats, serving as a black hole at the top of this lineup. John Schneider has shown time and time again that he is not capable of making the correct decisions to manage this baseball team. He refuses to change the lineup when the Blue Jays are 27th in the league in runs scored per game. Clearly, something needs to be changed to provide a spark to this Toronto Blue Jays offense. In this episode, we break down the Dodgers series, specific plays and moments, the pitching staff, John Schneider, and much more Toronto Blue Jays news and stories. The Toronto Blue Jays have a huge problem with their batting order. George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr are all hitting under .235 to start the season. As a result, it has been 17 games since the Toronto Blue Jays have scored more than 5 runs in a baseball game. Something needs to be done. We discuss what we believe the batting order should be to provide a spark to this offense. The Blue Jays dropped a 2-1 game against the Kansas City Royals as a result of a rain delay, that ended the game after 5 innings. Jose Berrios gets the loss after making one bad pitch to Salvador Perez that brought both runs home for the Royals. The 5 inning rule has always been in the MLB, but it's hard not to feel cheated in a baseball game that only lasted 5 innings. Do you think the MLB should extend the minimum number of innings required for a game to count as being played? The Blue Jays host the LA Dodgers for a home weekend series. This will be a huge test for the Blue Jays offense, as they will need to keep up with the Dodgers if they want to win a series. The Toronto Blue Jays made a huge move on Wednesday afternoon, calling up Addison Barger to the Major League Club. Addison Barger has played the infield his entire career, having limited reps in right field. This led the Toronto Blue Jays to stick Addison Barger in left field….. Addison Barger had some good at-bats but the scoresheet did not reflect that, as he went 0/4. John Schneider made several questionable decisions during this game, which ended up costing the Blue Jays once again, leaving Blue Jays fans to question more than ever if he can handle this role with the Toronto Blue Jays. Yariel Rodriguez took the bump today. He did not have his best stuff, however, he did what great pitchers do, and he gave his team a chance to win. The Toronto Blue Jays have some questions to answer with their pitching staff. The Toronto Blue Jays lose the last game of the series in tough fashion against the New York Yankees, blowing a two-run lead in the top of the 9th inning. Daulton Varsho had a legacy game, going yard on two separate occasions, leading the Blue Jays charge offensively. Kevin Gausman struggled to find his footing in the first inning, loading the bases, but he found a way to work out of the jam and never looked back. Gausman's velocity was back to normal standards, throwing the hardest pitch he's thrown since August of last season. Erik Swanson struggled immensely in his first outing of the season, giving up 3 earned runs and blowing the Blue Jays ninth-inning lead. John Schneider made his first questionable decision of the year, throwing Erik Swanson to the wolves in high leverage after being injured for a month, instead of pitching Chad Green, who was pitching very well as the temporary closer before Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson returned to the lineup. Did John Schneider make the correct decision? We cover all this and more on this episode of Locked on Blue Jays. The Toronto Blue Jays hand the New York Yankees their first series loss of the season, holding onto a 5-4 win. This game had some of everything, from runs, errors, smart baserunning, and suspenseful endings, the Toronto Blue Jays put on a show Tuesday Night. Yusei Kikuchi continues to produce effective innings time and time again, only allowing one run against a tough Yankees lineup. Considering Danny Jansen dropped a throw from Davis Schneider, that run probably should not have scored anyway. Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Ernie Clement all had some productive at-bats today, coming up with hits in clutch situations to help lead the Blue Jays to their victory. Jordan Romano, Erik Swanson, and Yimi Garcia all returned to the Blue Jays for today's game, with Jordan Romano earning his first save of the season. The Toronto Blue Jays get a huge divisional win against the New York Yankees and are above 500 for the first time of the season. This offense is still a problem, having runners in scoring position with 0 outs for all the first three innings and only coming away with 3 runs. Chris Bassitt commented on the pitch clock and the pitching injuries, stating that the injuries are more on pitchers and team personnel than the pitch clock itself, which has had some interesting responses from fans around the league. The Toronto Blue Jays drop the final game of the series to the Seattle Mariners in extra innings, 6-1. The only source of Blue Jays' offense in today's game was Vladimir Guererro Jr, smashing a baseball 459 feet off Logan Gilbert, sitting in the top 5 as one of the farthest home runs Vladdy has ever hit in his career. After the loss, Cal Raleigh called out John Schneider about his comments about Raleigh and the Mariner's offense last season. The Toronto Blue Jays drop their second series in a row against the New York Yankees 2-1, ending the Blue Jays Road trip 4-6. This offense has been very underwhelming to start the season, hitting under 200 as a team through the first 10 games. Unfortunately, much of this series showed similarities to last season, with the Toronto Blue Jays lacking the ability to string hits together, hit with runners in scoring position and have timely hitting. The Toronto Blue Jays need to figure out how to drive runners in when they have the opportunities if they want to be a series contender in the MLB. The Toronto Blue Jays are not going to win many games scoring two runs over three games, while getting 1-hit and no-hit in two out of three of those games. This offense needs to switch something up. Whether it is new personnel in the lineup, a change in approach or just being better hitters, the Blue Jays need to score more runs. The Toronto Blue Jays get no-hit by Ronel Blanco and the Houston Astros. After the Yankees beat up the Astros in the last 4 games, this is a tough pill to swallow for the Toronto Blue Jays. Bowden Francis got lit up by a pissed-off Astros lineup, going just over 5 innings and giving up 7 runs. The Blue Jays do the most Toronto Blue Jays thing ever and become the first team of 2024 to be no-hit. And now for the offensive highlights: George Springer walked twice. That is all. We did get to see IKF on the mound, where he gave Kevin Gausman a run for his money trying to secure the role as the Blue Jays ace. The Toronto Blue Jays split the opening weekend series 2-2 with the Tampa Bay Rays. After an 8-2 win Thursday, Chris Bassitt was solid in his first start, but the stats would not back him up. Untimely errors and a lack of hitting cost the Toronto Blue Jays that game. In the third game of the series, Yusei Kikuchi put together a mediocre outing, but it did not matter, as the Toronto Blue Jay had flashbacks from 2023 and could not hit a baseball. The Jays did bounce back on Sunday led by performances by Kevin Gausman, Justin Turner and Mitch White. The Toronto Blue Jays head to Houston for a three-game series against the Astros, hoping to find some offensive consistency. In this episode, we analyze Bo Bichette's costly error and how we view his defensive position on this team, the Genesis Cabrera altercation that caused the benches to clear and what we saw from this team offensively in this series. We provide an in-depth analysis of the moments that make or break Toronto Blue Jays games on this episode of Locked on Blue Jays Your current Toronto Blue Jays roster: Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette, Kevin Gausman, Jordan Romano, Alek Manoah, Yariel Rodriguez, George Springer, Yusei Kikuchi, Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt, Cavan Biggio, Justin Turner, Daulton Varsho, Danny Jansen, Alejandro Kirk, Joey Votto, Erik Swanson, Kevin Kiermaier, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Davis Schneider, Ernie Clement, Spencer Horwitz, Chad Green, Tim Mayza, Trevor Richards, Genesis Cabrera, Yimi Garcia, Bowden Francis, Daniel Vogelbach, Orelvis Martinez, Ricky Tiedemann, Zach Pop, Addison Barger, Nate Pearson, Nathan Lukes, Mitch White Intro: 0:00 Key Moments: 0:50 Series Recap: 15:30 Young Stars and Jays vs Astros: 28:00 Outro: 36:27 Twitter: @Brayden5Ewasko @Carterfuerst2 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dialedinjays Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Toronto Blue Jays have beaten the breaks off the Tampa Bay Rays in their opening day game, scoring 8 runs in the process. It was the first game of the season, but this team had a different feel heading onto the field. We finally had some offensive production up and down the lineup, with major contributions from Alejandro Kirk, Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette and Jose Berrios. This was a huge win for the Toronto Blue Jays to start the season, considering the lack of success the Blue Jays had against the AL East throughout last season. We have a guest for today's episode, a degenerate gambler, and sports fanatic, Skyler Peters. Skyler joins the boys in talking about the Toronto Blue Jays' success in spring training, whether these approaches will translate to the regular season, and who we think can continue to be productive at the plate throughout 2024. Which spring training standouts will continue their success into the regular season? With the trade of Santiago Espinal, we discuss who we think will get the opening day starts and 2nd and 3rd base this season. IKF and Cavan Biggio are more experienced, however, Ernie Clement and Davis Schneider have higher offensive upside that could be beneficial for a team that struggled to hit for power last season. The Toronto Blue Jays have some question marks regarding their starting pitching leading up to Opening Day. Bowden Francis has been lights out when given the opportunity to pitch for the Blue Jays, which leaves Mitch White or Paolo Espino to make a spot start for this team until Gausman is back. What should the Toronto Blue Jays do about their starting rotation this season? With Alek Manoah's struggles over the last year, there has been a portion of the fan base that has wanted the Blue Jays to move on from Alek Manoah, wanting Ross Atkins to trade him while he still has value. Other fans want him to start in the minor leagues, while some want to gift him the 5th starting rotation spot. What do you think the Toronto Blue Jays should do with Alek Manoah? Alejandro Kirk had a down year last season, struggling to find his footing after missing some time in Spring Training due to the birth of his child. Kirk did make strides defensively, being one of the best catchers at blocking baseballs last season. So far this spring training, Alejandro Kirk has been on a tear, setting his sights on another all-star season. How do you think Alejandro Kirk will perform this season? The Toronto Blue Jays did not re-sign many free agents last season, only deciding to bring back Kevin Kiermaier for the 2024 season. We break down which players we would have wanted to see back on the Toronto Blue Jays for the 2024 season. Erik Swanson was very effective for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. Swanson was a key piece to the revamp of this bullpen last season that struggled in 2022. Swanson should remain as one of the top weapons out of this bullpen again this season, one that should be top 10 if not top 5 in Major League Baseball this season. How important is Erik Swanson in this bullpen? Vladimir Guererro Jr has decided that he wants to bring the home run jacket back again for 2024. While the home run jacket is awesome when the Toronto Blue Jays are winning, it can be very corny when they're losing a baseball game.
