Send us a textSure we talked about #Yankees 9 home runs in one game last week - that's the 2nd time it's happened this season which is a first! #Phillies Zach Wheeler has surgery and is out for the season - awful. #Brewers #Cubs #Dodgers #Padres are all good teams and will be tough in the playoffs. #Tigers Tarik Skubal and #RedSox Garret Crochet are pitching horses which is more special than ever. #Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk steals his first base ever after 2,000+ games! #Rangers continue to disappoint. #Orioles sign another catcher to an 8 year deal after one week in #MLB. Huh? What happened to Adley Rutschman? Our stat of the week is good ole fashioned batting average. #NationalLeague has had batting champions for 150 years, the #AmericanLeague for 125 years. Do we really want to pull away from that long and amazing history? Batting average may not be the be-all and end-all offensive stat but we think it's still important. In this episode of Cricket Matters, we dive into a topic that's close to every batter's heart: what actually counts as a good batting average in club cricket? We crunch the numbers, challenge the myths, and share a reality check that every aspiring player needs to hear. You'll Learn:Why averages alone don't tell the full story. We explore how focusing only on your batting average can be misleading and why it's crucial to consider 50+ scores and conversion rates for a true performance assessment. What elite player stats reveal about consistency. James breaks down test, ODI, and T20 data from cricket legends like Tendulkar, Kohli, and Joe Root to show how often even the greats “fail”—and what that means for club players. How to benchmark yourself as a club cricketer. You'll get a data-driven framework for what a “good” batting performance looks like depending on your role in the lineup, from opener to tail-ender.The mindset shift needed for performance improvement. We unpack why many club cricketers overrate themselves based on one good knock and how to take ownership of your form with honesty and data.Key Takeaways:50+ scores are more important than average alone. A high average can be inflated by not-outs or low-pressure runs. What really matters is how often you're converting starts into match-defining scores.Even the greatest cricketers get out a lot. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting scored 50+ runs in only about 35% of innings. That means failing 65% of the time is still elite performance.Joe Root and Virat Kohli are statistical outliers. Their incredible consistency, with nearly 50% of innings over 50 runs, puts them on a level unmatched even among the top 10 run-scorers of all time.Club performance must be evaluated across 10 innings. One-off big scores don't prove form. Patterns over 10 innings give a clearer picture of who's performing—and who just got lucky.Your division should reflect your performance level. If you're averaging 80 but playing low-division cricket, you're not being challenged. Conversely, low scores at high levels may mean it's time to regroup.Quotes:“In cricket, the stats don't lie—and they don't lie over time.”“Everyone remembers their 74, but forgets their 12 and 3.”“Batting average without conversion stats is only half the story.”Find James on: Instagram: @jamesbreese Twitter: @_jamesbreese To learn more about Cricket Matters and download your FREE copy of The High-Performance Handbook, please visit www.cricketmatters.com

Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
Like it or not, projection systems are a huge part of major league baseball. And while the SF Giants' team projections may be mediocre (although there's still time to improve the roster), the Giants' big offseason addition, Jung Hoo Lee, boasts some of the more exciting projections on the team. Lee is predicted by several major projection systems to be among baseball's best in terms of batting average and strikeout rate. If Lee's projections were to come true—and we get that games aren't played on computers, they're played on the field—he would've had the second-lowest K rate in MLB last year behind only Luis Arraez. And the SF Giants outfielder is projected to hit for among the top batting averages in the league, around .290. Meanwhile, there was some good Hall of Fame news yesterday if you're a Giants fan. First of all, congratulations are in order for Adrian Beltre, Todd Helton, and Joe Mauer. Beltre and Mauer were elected to the Hall in their first year on the ballot. When we compare Mauer's career to that of Buster Posey, it becomes increasingly obvious that Posey is Hall of Fame worthy, as if that was really a question. Anyone who doubts that wasn't really paying attention from 2010-21. Posey was a better hitter, amassed more accolades, was the best player on a team that won three championships, and produced more fWAR than Mauer in about 500 fewer games. Posey is getting into the Hall of Fame, folks, and it should come on the first ballot. Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

The MENTAL GAME, with an all-time GREAT mindset Athlete! It's time to get into the mind of an ELITE Performer. Imagine going from not even starting on your Freshman High School team to a few years later, being considered the #1 athlete in the WORLD in your sport! This week we're going to spend an hour talking with one of the most talented hitters ever to play baseball. However, this show is about MINDSET, not baseball.SEAN CASEY is in the studio, and I couldn't be happier to talk to the guy they call THE MAYOR.Most people know Sean from his playing days as a first baseman in Major League Baseball during a career that spanned 12 SEASONS. He finished with more than 1,500 HITS, a .302 LIFETIME BATTING AVERAGE, and as a 3-TIME ALL-STAR.You're getting a master class on THE MENTAL TOUGHNESS it takes to achieve PEAK PERFORMANCE on those big fields thousands of times over and over AND how you can apply what Sean knows to YOUR life. You'll recognize many of the things Sean talks about because I also believe they're critical to SUCCESS in any game you play. That means applying STANDARDS, a POSITIVE MINDSET, GRATITUDE, and being INTENTIONAL at all times. There are NO SHORTCUTS.Sean also has a great lesson you must hear about what happened when he started playing OFFENSE instead of DEFENSE when he wanted to set a goal of playing college ball. It's GOLD GLOVE stuff.Sean is also quick to point out that GREATNESS DOESN'T COME NATURALLY. Although it may look that way on the field, what you're seeing is the result of DEDICATION, PASSION, CONSISTENCY, RESILIENCE, DEALING WITH PRESSURE, and THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX.We'll wrap up with Sean explaining why you should build GAPS into your life and why GRATITUDE, ACCOUNTABILITY, PERSPECTIVE, AND SERVICE are critical to making you a better person and the world a better place. You'll enjoy listening to the MAYOR for great insights on how to take your LIFE GAME to the highest level!
