In this lecture, we finally begin Kitab At-Tahara and uncover why Tahara is a condition for Salah, diving into its linguistic and juristic meanings. You'll learn why scholars differentiate between Hadath (ritual impurity) and Najas (physical impurity), and how these concepts shape the rules of purification in worship. The talk highlights the importance of both water and intention in purification, showcasing how Wudu and Ghusl uplift ritual impurity. Yet, the session doesn't stop there; we then move on to a detailed discussion about the parts of the body on which Wudu is required. Simultaneously, the Ustadh provides groundbreaking linguistic insights from the Hadith and explains how differences in understanding a single letter can lead to completely different meanings being extracted from it. #IslamicStudies #Fiqh Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, I'm Zayd Haji, currently pursuing a Postgraduate Program in Islamic Science at Zad Academy. My aim is to deepen my understanding of our Deen and enhance my grasp of its teachings. Today, I'd like to share key insights from our recent Fiqh studies, focusing on its essential principles and their impact on our daily lives. The Importance of Fiqh Fiqh, or Islamic jurisprudence, guides our actions to ensure they align with the Qur'an and Sunnah. As Allah says: "We did not send [messengers] before you [O Prophet] except mere men inspired by Us. If you [polytheists] do not know [this already], then ask those who have knowledge [of the Scriptures]." (Qur'an 16:43) The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) highlighted the importance of understanding religion: "If Allah wants to do good to a person, He makes him comprehend the religion. I am just a distributor, but the grant is from Allah. This nation will continue to follow Allah's teachings until the Day of Judgment." (Sahih al-Bukhari 71; In-book reference: Book 3, Hadith 13) He also said: "He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion. I am the treasurer. To one whom I give out of [my own] sweet will, he would be blessed, but he whom I give due to his begging is like one who eats but is not satisfied." (Sahih Muslim 1037a; In-book reference: Book 12, Hadith 126) Additionally: "He to whom Allah intends to do good, He gives him insight into religion. And I am only the distributor while Allah is the Bestower." (Sahih Muslim 1037b; In-book reference: Book 12, Hadith 129) Understanding Fiqh is crucial as we will first be questioned about our Salah on the Day of Judgment. The Role of Purification in Salah Purification is essential for valid Salah. Every book of Fiqh begins with the chapter on Taharah (purification), emphasizing its importance. The Qur'an instructs: "O believers! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles. If you are in a state of [full] impurity, then take a full bath. If you cannot find water, then purify yourselves with clean earth by wiping your faces and hands. It is not Allah's Will to burden you but to purify you and complete His favor upon you, so perhaps you will be grateful." (Qur'an 5:6) Types of Purification Purification in Islam includes two main types: Spiritual Purification (Taharah al-Batinah): This concerns the purity of faith. A Muslim is spiritually pure through faith in Allah and adherence to His commandments. Those who reject faith are described as spiritually impure: "O believers! Indeed, the polytheists are [spiritually] impure, so they should not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year." (Qur'an 9:28) Physical Purification (Taharah al-Zahirah): This involves cleansing the body, clothing, and prayer area from physical impurities. It includes: Ritual Impurity (Hadath): Affects the ability to perform Salah and can be major or minor. Physical Impurity (Najasa): Visible impurities such as urine or blood must be cleansed before Salah. Practical Application of Purification For our Salah to be accepted, both types of purification must be observed. Major impurities require Ghusl, while minor impurities can be removed with Wudu. Physical impurities must also be cleansed. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "The key to Paradise is Salah, and the key to Salah is Wudu'." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 4; In-book reference: Book 1, Hadith 4) This Hadith highlights the critical role of purification in our worship and success in the Hereafter. Conclusion Practicing purification is vital for every Muslim. It involves both maintaining physical cleanliness and preparing spiritually and physically for Salah. As we continue our studies in Fiqh, may Allah grant us the knowledge and understanding to worship Him correctly and sincerely. Wa Alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In light of the discovery of a rare medieval cemetery in the Vale of Glamorgan, Azim Ahmed explores funerary customs today. Dr Andy Seaman, a specialist in early medieval archaeology from the University of Cardiff, shares his findings on location at the archaeological dig site near Fonmore Castle. While graveyards might be seen as quiet reflective places today, Andy explains that in the medieval period they were often central to life and where communities might meet to undertake business, meetings and even feasting. Dr Marianne Rozario from the Christian think tank Theos shares the conclusions from their recent report ‘Ashes to Ashes: Beliefs, Trends and Practices in dying, death and the Afterlife.' Key findings are a growing trend towards cremation rather than burial in the UK and a rise of “celebrations of life” over traditional funerals. Author, eulogy speechwriter, and funeral celebrant Pete Billingham explains how the growth of ‘Direct Cremations' is changing the way we remember those we've loved and lost, and how the digital age is shaping the modern landscape of memorial services. Near Llandaff Weir Vimla Patel shows Azim a new multi-faith ash scattering site in the River Taff. It's the first site of its kind in Wales and offers Hindus and Sikhs the opportunity to scatter the ashes of their loved ones near the place they call home. Traditionally ashes would be scattered in India's holiest river, the Ganges, but Vimla explains that for second and third generation members of the Sikh and Hindu communities many would prefer ashes to be scattered in Wales. Supporting Humanity is an award-winning charity providing mental health and bereavement support. Since the Covid pandemic they've been running workshops and tutorials to train younger members of the Muslim community the traditional Muslim funeral ritual of Ghusl. In the Islamic tradition it is important that burial takes place as quickly as possible and that the body should be washed and dressed before so. Trustee Sumaiya Khoda and CEO and founder Idris Patel share how they've been overwhelmed with the interest and dedication shown by the young people they work with. Details of organisations offering information, advice and support with bereavement are available at www.bbc.co.uk/actionline.

Q&A: Does Masturbation Break The Fast? | Shaykh Saqib Iqbal hh Essential knowledge for young adults and parents pertaining to fasting and the occurrence of different bodily discharge which necessitate and invalidate Ghusl and Wudhu. Maniy, madhiy, wadiy, whether they break the fast or call for an expiation are all discussed in this short clip. Today, the vast majority of us have access to an unlimited amount of information and have the knowledge of the world at our fingertips. The irony is that although the above is true, most of us live our lives in complete ignorance and choose to live a hedonistic lifestyle far from knowledge and meaning. Books are more readily accessible today than they ever were in history but the readers are few in number. Teachers are ready to teach students the necessities of the religion but the students aren't willing to attend. Masajid are found at the corner of almost every street in the city but hardly anyone from those streets prays their salah. A very sad yet interesting time indeed. It is the duty of parents to guide their children and equip them with the correct morals and understanding of the religion so that they can guide themselves and serve as a ray of hope for the generation to come. If parents and guardians don't fulfil their duty of encouraging their children to connect themselves with the pious and sit in gatherings of knowledge, they should be prepared for a disaster. Below is a short excerpt from Shaykh Saqib's talk detailing some important rulings pertaining to fasting and the essentials of ritual purification which many of the youth are ignorant of. Share the with the intention of spreading knowledge and raising awareness, inshaAllah.

With Q&A on important Islamic rulings about cleanliness, Ghusl, Wudu, Mani (semen) , Madhi, wadhi, Qadha, Kaffarah etc which is necessary knowledge for every Muslim. Shaykh Saqib Iqbal hh
Before the prayer begins, a Muslim is required to perform ablution (wudu in Arabic), which is the act of cleaning and purifying oneself from physical bodily fluids such as blood, urine, or any impurity with water. A Muslim must be clean and free of impurities in his body, clothing, and the area where the Prayer will be performed. One drop of waste matter presents anywhere would void one's Prayer. Wudu was the first ritual legislated in Islam, legislated right after the second Revelation. Wudu is half of our faith. The passing of urine, stool, windbreaks, eating camel meat, losing consciousness, and falling asleep while lying down on one's Wudu. Ghusl, a full body bath is required after sexual intercourse or when sperm is discharged. If one does not break his wudu and the following prayer comes in, they can pray with the same Wudu Ablution performed prior. Our Prophet Muhammad PBUH stated that were it not difficult for my nation, I would have commanded my nation to perform Wudu Ablution every time they stood up to pray. This is to show us the importance of and encourage us to perform a lot of Wudu in our lives. On Judgement Day, those who performed a perfect wudu will be identifiable by the light shining from the areas they washed in wudu. Every time we make Wudu, sins fall with the drops of water from our skin, so the repetition of Wudu cleanses our sins, and we should get into the habit of performing ablution regularly.O believers! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of ˹full˺ impurity, then take a full bath. But if you are ill, on a journey, or have relieved yourselves, or have been intimate with your wives and cannot find water, then purify yourselves with clean Earth by wiping your faces and hands. It is not Allah's Will to burden you, but to purify you and complete His favour upon you, so perhaps you will be grateful. (Quran 5:6)

what is the significance of Ramadan and how can I fully maximize this opportunity to intensify my devotion to Allah in this month? Allah says in the Holy Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 185: “Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Quran, as a guide to mankind, and also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong).” Ramadan is the month of the Holy Quran; therefore, you are encouraged to do the following: 1. Do more good deeds with the aim of strengthening your faith and receiving Allah's blessings. 2. Increase your knowledge by reading and studying the Holy Quran and the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) 3. Reflecting on the values that the Holy Quran teaches us, particularly in akhlaq (moral character). Our deeds and actions as a person of faith have to reflect the good moral character, as that which has been laid out in our Holy Book. Intensifying our devotion to Allah in Ramadan is not limited to ritual prayers and the fast. More than that, we should reflect on every aspect of our lives and realize our devotion to Allah in all of our actions, words and intentions.

Performing ghusl is an important part of staying pure in our deen. For the people who have long thick hair, it can be tough at times to wash their hair fully. It's 3:59a.m. and your alarm has gone off to let you know it's time to pray Fajr, and you've missed Suhoor... again. *distant, eery screams*Theresa and Kaighla have been where you are—Kaighla missed Suhoor (the morning meal just before starting your fast, eaten before dawn) just this morning, in fact! As much as it feels like you may die, we're here to tell you that while it's gonna suck, hard, you will (probably, inshaAllah) survive. We discuss ways to prevent missing Suhoor, great tips for making the most of this important meal, and the question of what to do if you do miss it, as well as handling things when you enjoyed your halal spouse in the night and didn't get a chance to make ghusl (ritual full-bath required before prayer after sex) before Fajr. The New Muslim's Field Guide vocab word of the day is suhoor—The predawn meal that is eaten before the day of fasting begins. Sahoor is eaten just before sunrise/fajr. Check out this video on how to make Ghusl.@ 0:39 Theresa says that you have to be very careful when you have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning. This is just an example. Not everyone will be eating or waking up at the same time. Your time will very based on your location. Go to www.islamicfinder.org to find out when you should stop eating (Fajrtime). @ 1:08 Kaighla jokes that if your dog licks your face, go make wudu if you're a “shaf'i”. Imam Ash-Shafi'i is the founder of one of many schools of thought, and those who follow his school of thought are of the opinion that dog saliva is najis (impure) and makes everything it touches (clothes, skin, dishes) impure, too. Read more here.@ 4:36 Kaighla talks about “Halal sexing.” Sex with your spouse is prohibited during fasting in the daylight hours of Ramadan, but perfectly halal at night. Just make sure you're not still in the act when Fajr begins.@ 5:30 Kaighla talks about when she first converted and she would accidentally swallow water during wudu. If you do accidentally swallow water, this doesn't break your fast.
