Full Text of Readings Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Lectionary: 170 The Saint of the day is Blessed Jolenta of Poland Blessed Jolenta of Poland's Story Blessed Jolenta was the daughter of Bela IV, King of Hungary. Her sister, St. Kunigunde, was married to the Duke of Poland. Jolenta was sent to Poland where her sister was to supervise her education. Eventually married to Boleslaus, the Duke of Greater Poland, Jolenta was able to use her material means to assist the poor, the sick, widows, and orphans. Her husband joined her in building hospitals, convents, and churches so that he was surnamed “the Pious.” Upon the death of her husband and the marriage of two of her daughters, Jolenta and her third daughter entered the convent of the Poor Clares. War forced Jolenta to move to another convent where despite her reluctance, she was made abbess. So well did Jolenta serve her Franciscan sisters by word and example, that her fame and good works continued to spread beyond the walls of the cloister. Her favorite devotion was the Passion of Christ. Indeed, Jesus appeared to her, telling her of her coming death. Many miracles, down to our own day, are said to have occurred at her grave. Reflection Blessed Jolenta's story begins like a fairy tale. But fairy tales seldom include the death of the prince and never end with the princess living out her days in a convent. Nonetheless, Jolenta's story has a happy ending. Her life of charity toward the poor and devotion to her Franciscan sisters indeed brought her to a “happily ever after.” Our lives may be short on fairy tale elements, but our generosity and our willingness to serve well the people we live with lead us toward an ending happier than we can imagine.Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

Sadaqah (S2) The pious predecessors would work overtime just to give more to charity. The Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه that whenever someone gives gifts to maintain family ties, then Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى increases blessings in abundance for him. The Messenger ﷺ: “Assist your rizq by giving sadaqah”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى did not mould a saint except with generosity and good manners”. These 2 traits we should strive to attain.

March 25, Solemnity of the Annunciation - A Solemn Day of Grace

Read Online“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30–33Today's Solemnity marks one of the most important days of our calendar year. On March 25, nine months before Christmas Day, we celebrate the Incarnation of the Son of God in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Solemnity first draws our attention to the Blessed Virgin Mary's perfect response to God's will: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Her resounding “Yes” to God was beautifully expressed in this moment, echoed throughout her life, and culminated when she stood before the Cross, united with her divine Son as He offered the Sacrifice of His life to the Father for the salvation of the world. From as early as the third and fourth centuries, Church Fathers and early Christian writers speculated that the significance of March 25 extended beyond the Incarnation. Pious tradition suggests that several pivotal events in salvation history occurred on this day: the creation of Adam and his first sin; the fall of a third of the angels; the near-sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham; the Israelites' passing through the Red Sea led by Moses; and the Crucifixion of Christ. Some have also proposed that March 25 will mark the day of Christ's return to judge the living and the dead, completing God's work of creation and redemption. The Incarnation marks the beginning of Christ's earthly mission, which He completes on the Cross. Thus, the Annunciation is inseparably tied to the redemption achieved at Calvary, making this day an important moment to ponder God's plan of salvation. Every day of the year is sacred when we respond to His call, but certain days, like today, stand out as opportunities to participate in His work of redemption in unique ways. While March 25 might or might not correspond to the exact historical day of the Archangel's announcement, today the Church invites us to celebrate this mystery liturgically. We do so with solemn joy, pondering the grace of the Incarnation, made possible through Mary's perfect union with God's will—her willing cooperation that opened the path to our salvation.Liturgical commemorations of divine mysteries are more than opportunities to recall what God has done. By situating these mysteries within the liturgical year, time itself is sanctified as we mystically participate in them and are invited to share in the good fruit they bore. These mysteries are not relics of the past; they remain alive and efficacious, bearing fruit today when we open our hearts to God's grace. On this particular solemnity, God fulfilled His part by overshadowing the Blessed Virgin with the Holy Spirit, instituting the Incarnation. Our Blessed Mother's part was her full consent—her perfect fiat. Today, we are invited to continue the fruitfulness of that divine mystery by uniting ourselves to her fiat, her resolute “Yes.” With the Mother of God, we must listen to the angels of God who reveal His will; then, we must wholeheartedly proclaim, “May it be done to me according to your word.” We must cast aside hesitation and trust fully in God's power and providence, even when His will remains beyond our understanding.Reflect today on the Annunciation as not just a moment in history but a living mystery in your life. God continues to invite you to say “Yes” to His plan, just as the Virgin Mary did. Where is God calling you to give your fiat? In what areas of your life is He asking you to allow Him to become present through your actions, choices, and faith? Pray for the grace to respond to God's call with the same openness and trust as the Blessed Virgin Mary, so that His work may bear good fruit in and through you. Most holy Mother of God, today we commemorate, with great solemnity, your “Yes” to God's will, revealed to you through the Archangel. Your fiat inaugurated the beginnings of salvation, won through the merits of your Son. Please pray for me, that I will imitate your faith and cooperation with grace so that your Son's Incarnation will continue through me today. Come, Holy Spirit, overshadow me as You did the Blessed Virgin, that Christ may be born anew in me today. Mother Mary, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.  Image via Adobe StockSource: Free RSS feed from catholic-daily-reflections.com — Copyright © 2026 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Synopsis: The topic of Preparedness is a contentious topic. When it comes to our generation we tend to view it in one of two ways. Either we avoid it, or we are consumed by it. We will explore the two errors of complacency and conceitedness, and understand the correct balance between being prepared and trusting the Lord. Sermon Text: Proverbs 21:31

As we come to the end of this hypothesis, the Fathers leave us with something painfully ordinary. They do not give us visions of heaven or heights of contemplation. They speak about the tongue. About when to speak. About when to remain silent. About lowering the eyes. About saying only what is necessary. It feels almost too simple. Yet they place it before us as a matter of life and death. They tell us that God is always watching. Not watching in suspicion, but watching as One who longs to dwell within us. And yet how quickly the door of the mouth is thrown open and everything inside spills out. Opinions. Explanations. Justifications. Pious thoughts. Clever remarks. Even good words spoken at the wrong time. We imagine that because something is true or orthodox or well intentioned it must be spoken. But the Fathers are ruthless here. They tell us that even good speech can disperse the soul. Saint Diadochus says that when the doors of the baths are left open, the heat escapes. So too with the soul. We labor for years to gather the mind, to kindle even a small flame of prayer, and then in a few careless conversations it dissipates. We leave a gathering inwardly empty. Not because we sinned gravely, but because we spoke much. The tragedy is not only that we lose recollection. It is that we begin to live outwardly. We become performers of thoughts. We interrupt. We insert ourselves. We fear being unnoticed. Saint Maximos unmasks this disease with precision. He says the one who interrupts reveals his love of glory. How often do we speak not from charity but from hunger. Hunger to be seen. To be affirmed. To be needed. Even in spiritual settings. Especially there. Isaiah the Anchorite brings it to the ground level. If you must speak, do so quietly. With humility. With reverence. As one ignorant. As one unworthy. Lower the face. Say little. Return quickly to silence. This is not theatrical piety. It is an interior stance. The tongue restrained becomes a sign that the passions are not ruling the heart. The Gerontikon cuts even deeper. Abba Joseph says he cannot control his tongue. The elder asks him one question. Do you find peace when you talk. No. Then why talk. There is something almost brutal in that simplicity. We speak and we lose peace. Yet we keep speaking. Abba Sisoes, a great ascetic, confesses that for thirty years he has prayed to be delivered from sins of the tongue and still he falls daily. This should sober us. If such a man trembles over his speech, what of us who speak constantly and without fear. And yet the Fathers do not romanticize silence. Abba Isaac exposes the counterfeit. There is a silence born of pride, of wanting the glory of being perceived as spiritual. A brooding silence that hides malice. A calculated silence that manipulates. This is not holiness. This is ego dressed in restraint. True silence either springs from zeal for virtue or from inward conversation with God. If it is not one of these, it will decay into self admiration. The stakes are high. If you guard your tongue, Isaac says, God will give you compunction. Compunction. The gift of seeing your own soul. The light of the mind. The joy of the Spirit. Silence becomes not emptiness but revelation. But if the tongue conquers you, you will never escape darkness. We are accustomed to thinking that sanctification comes through great works. Through ministries. Through projects. Through visible sacrifices. The Fathers insist that it may begin with something as small and humiliating as closing the mouth. Not as repression. Not as fear. But as reverence. To speak only when there is good reason. To speak because it is God's will and not because it soothes our anxiety. To listen more than we talk. To accept being unknown. To resist the need to untie every thought that wanders into the stable of the mind. This teaching must be internalized or it will remain quaint desert wisdom. It must confront us in the car after a conversation that left us agitated. It must confront us before we send the message, before we correct someone, before we offer unsolicited counsel, before we share a clever insight. It must question us. Is this necessary. Is this born of love. Will this preserve peace. Or am I simply opening the door and letting the heat escape. All things must be touched by grace. Speech can console, heal, illumine, and reconcile. Speech can also scatter, inflame, and darken. The same tongue that blesses can wound. The same mouth that proclaims Christ can betray Him. If we do not yet have a pure heart, the Fathers say, at least have a pure mouth. It is a beginning. A humiliating beginning. A door set firmly in place. And behind that door, if we are faithful, the slow birth of compunction. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:04:48 Fr. In this Jewish Inspiration Podcast episode (Day 124), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues the Gate of Truth (Sha'ar HaEmes) from Orchos Tzaddikim, exploring truth as the essence of God, prayer, and the heart. Key points:Calling upon Hashem in truth (Psalms 145:18) — Free the heart from worldly distractions; cleave intellect and mind solely to Hashem with constant yearning. In crisis, the first thought is “Hashem, help me”—aligning fully with God.Hisbodedus (seclusion) — Pious people seclude themselves (e.g., in a room) to connect deeply with Hashem, avoiding worldly bonds except for necessities. Avoid prayer focused only on personal needs/money/honor—that's not true avodah (service).Daily prayer for truth — Recite “V'taher libeinu l'avdecha be'emes” (purify our hearts to serve You in truth)—ensure all service is authentic, not for people, money, or ego.Return to Hashem — “Im tashuv ad Shakai tivaneh” (Job 22:23): Return without foreign thoughts separating you from God—rebuild strongly in the radiance of Shechinah.King David's truth — “Hashem, who dwells on Your holy mountain? He who walks perfectly, acts righteously, and speaks truth in his heart” (Psalms 15:1–2)—truth must be implanted in the heart, not just spoken.Early pious sages — Sold items at the heart-fixed price, refusing higher offers; write down commitments to avoid forgetting/violating inner truth.Truth's reward — “You decree a word, and it will be fulfilled for you” (Job 22:28)—truthful people's words/thoughts manifest; their dealings (business, lending) reflect unwavering honesty. The rabbi stresses: in a materialistic world, seclude daily (e.g., 10–30 minutes without devices) for true dveikut (cleaving to God). Prayer is face-to-face with Hashem—prepare with 60 seconds of contemplation. Truth in heart ensures fulfilled words and divine closeness._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on July 21, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on February 9, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at aw@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. This episode includes discussion of sex and is not suitable for younger listeners.Sex has always been a key part of Irish life. Yet given its intimate and private nature it often leaves little trace in the historical record. One rare exception comes from the Presbyterian Kirk Session, a church court that kept detailed accounts of behaviour it considered sinful. These records open a unique window into how people in eighteenth century Ireland navigated desire, shame, romance and rule breaking. In this episode I am joined by Dr Leanne Calvert whose book Pious and Promiscuous: Life, Love and Family in Presbyterian Ulster uncovers the hidden sex lives of ordinary men and women in the 18th century. The conversation explores beliefs about sex, the reality of everyday relationships, courtship, affairs, pregnancy and the ways communities tried to control intimacy.Get your copy of Leanne's book Pious and Promiscuous: Life, Love and Family in Presbyterian Ulster herehttps://shop.ria.ie/products/piousLeanne's Blog: https://promiscuouspresbyterian.wordpress.com/Work profile: https://pure.ul.ie/en/persons/leanne-calvert/Sound by Kate Dunlea.
