Last year, when we wrote that "the best UK garage is coming out of Los Angeles," we were talking about Introspekt. The US DJ, who has since moved to New York, really understands the genre—its appeal, swing and unique, bassy whomp. Listen to any of her tracks, like last year's "Forlorn," and you'll hear someone who produces like she's been making UKG all her life. This is probably partly because she comes from a dubstep background, but either way, if you're looking for new UK garage beats, Introspekt is one of the best going right now. Her DJing also hits a distinct sweet spot, zeroing in one of the proto-dubstep, dark UK garage days when producers like El-B were making the hottest shit around. Her sound is both retro and forward-looking, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast, which balances vintage Big Apple cuts from Skream & Benga with new-school tunes from Amaliah and Surusinghe. It's not so much a throwback as it is a rejuvenation of an old sound—a new way to look at it and a new way to make it. If hindsight is 20/20, then Introspekt has perfect vision, and mixes like this are the perfect way to educate listeners, make them move and innovate a little in the process. @sageintrospekt Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/929

This week's entry to the Local Selection welcomes Speedy P to the series as he embarks on a sensual listening journey for the guts of an hour. You can expect fluid mixing from start to finish with a range of bassline and IDM fused together, resulting in a pristine listening experience. Next up on the Four Four Local Selection is Speedy P. The Midnight Disco resident possesses knowledge beyond his years when it comes to DJing. Some might say that this is down to his sleek mixing style and his keen ear for unearthing copious amounts of killer records and they might be right. This mix holds no bars, leaving everything to the listener as Speedy P transcends through an array of genres which reflect various emotions with ease. Possessing an arsenal of highly energetic cuts as well as a collection of sombre and introspective tracks in-between is delightful listening. Given Speedy P's killer repertoire as a DJ, this has lead him to support numerous artists across the dance music industry such as Nikki Nair, Alan Fitzpatrick, Venetta, Finn, Amaliah, EMA, Efa O'Neill, Bakey, Reflex Blue and so on. Providing the correct amount of warmth and energy in the room before switching out, this impressive and generally forgotten-about skill that he procured over years of hard work and dedication has served him well thus far and we are super excited to see what he gets up to next. Rosie Hodsdon was struggling to make ends meet on a pHD stipend. Then she hit Record and began to make sex videos from her student flat, indulging her fetish for kink. As she explains to Olly in this intimate conversation, her sexy side-hustle introduced her to a range of peccadillos, including ‘Giantess' porn and ‘sploshing' - and even led her to be invited to join the cast of a professional adult video. But it also left her exposed to assault. Now an advocate for charity National Ugly Mugs, Rosie campaigns for increased rights for sex workers, and nurtures support networks for performers who fall prey to violence. CONTENT WARNING: explicit sexual content; sexual assault. —— Meanwhile, in the Zeitgeist, Ollie Peart - fresh from scooping up a Sports Journalism Award for producing the podcast ‘Brown Gal Can't Swim' - investigates the trend for breakdancing. Or, as he discovers, ‘break', as it is correctly called… How will it fare as an Olympic sport in 2024? How does one go about gaining the highest score in a battle dance? And will he permanently damage his knees by just giving it a go? With help from break expert DJ Renegage and sports commentator Tim Warwood, Ollie BREAKS UP THE DANCE FLOOR. —— Elsewhere, in the Foxhole, Alix Fox has a memorable encounter with Susie Dent, assists a listener in an open relationship, and proves she knows the difference between a low cervix and a short vagina. As if we ever doubted it. She also showcases Islam-centred sex ed resources and support services, including The Village Auntie, Amaliah podcast ‘Lights On', sexologist Shaakira Abdullah and writer Habeeb Akande. —— Music this month comes from podcaster Rory Powers, known for his hugely entertaining show ‘This Paranormal Life'. Our Record of the Month is ‘Down Bad', from his forthcoming EP. —— Remember, we are only able to make this show with YOUR SUPPORT.
“We're paid less. We go in and out of the workforce. We live longer. We have fewer dollars but more years [of retirement] to pay for.” –Carrie Schwab-PomerantzWomen tend to suffer from longer employment gaps, fewer economic opportunities, a larger domestic load and lower earning potential. One way to tackle this is through equipping women with the knowledge and resources to become financially independent whether it's through landing clients, earning income through the digital economy, up-skilling, investing and/or saving.Zebras Unite hosted a live Re-envision Business conversation to discuss the current economic landscape and the steps needed to move this from concept to reality for women around the world.Uneesa Zaman is an experienced financial literacy facilitator, specialising in the advancement of women's financial education and consulting ethical fintechs globally through her consultancy, Rizq Comms. “This is the best way for me to be seen. How I want to be seen. And that is as a Muslim woman.” When nurse practitioner Neda walked into a pole dancing class while wearing a hijab, she had no agenda. A life-long athlete, she had purchased a Class Pass and decided to use it to learn some “ho stuff” from “a bunch of strippers.” However, she learned a lot more than just some “ho stuff,” and by the end of her first class, she was hooked to the pole. Now with nearly 50,000 followers on Instagram, @hijabluscious is a study in sharp contrasts. Despite the fact that in much of the western world, a hijab is often interpreted as a symbol of Muslim women's oppression, she proudly rocks her head and neck covering while pulling off some dope shit on the pole. “I had people trying to share my videos out of contempt. Trying to harass me. All that did was give me more attention.” Due to the many pole dancing videos she's shared, Neda has received all sorts of angry threats and accusations. While at the same time, she's inspired thousands who would previously never consider pole dancing at all. Plus, she's kind of famous! On this episode, we talk about how members of the pole dancing community first reacted to her when she walked into the studio, what the early reactions were when she started posting videos, and how she achieves balance both on and off the pole. @HIJABLUSCIOUS LINKS IG - https://www.instagram.com/hijabiluscious/ POLE DANCING WITH THE TRY GUYS (VIDEO, NEARLY 2 MILLION VIEWS) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jelxsmzI71s MUSLIM GIRL INTERVIEW - https://muslimgirl.com/meet-neda-the-hijabi-who-loves-to-pole-dance/ AMALIAH.COM INTERVIEW - https://www.amaliah.com/post/58142/year-hobbies-pole-muslim-women-sports-fitness-neda-hijabiluscious MUSLIM MAMAS INTERVIEW - https://muslimmamas.com/neda-the-hijabi-pole-dancer-by-marzia-hassem/ If you'd like a custom autographed copy of my book, 3 Secrets the the Happy and Healthy Relationship You've Always F*cking Wanted, but you can't attend a book-signing in person, email me and I'll snail mail you a signed bookplate you can affix to your copy. Paradise Loops is a groove infused mix series aimed to provide a backdrop of balearic, anthemic and nostalgic sounds on those sun-soaked glory days. If you've been keeping your eye on London's clubbing scene since the re-opening, then no doubt you would have seen Scarlett O'Malley's name plastered pretty much everywhere at the moment. The in demand DJ, founder of The Soul Exchange, Radio Station Manager at whynow and resident on Foundation FM has been smashing it lately, and with the clubs in mind, Scarlett has provided a killer mix that's dancefloor centric. It's a bit of a different vibe to the usual, but my god we're so here for it. "This mix is pure house heaven and a real reflection on what tunes I have been feeling since the clubs have been reopened. Real house stompers, of course with some disco melodies and big soul vocal influences with two of my favourite artists ever Whitney and Mariah in there. I really love all the tunes in this, a mix to get a sweat on to on the dance floor! I must give thanks to DJs like OK Williams, Helena Star, TDunn, Amaliah and Eliza Rose for keeping the house feels alive, being my DJ inspirations and constantly putting me on to absolute belters!" - @scarlett_omalley Tracklist: Trevor Rockcliffe - Visions Of You Galaxy 2 Galaxy feat. Do we hang up our womanhood, our God given sensual selves, once we have kids? And if we do, WHY?The Village Auntie spills it all, as she does best, to help us reclaim our feminine histories in order to be better mothers. Part of that reclamation includes restoring the fundamentals about what Islam teaches regarding feminine sexuality, and how critics are quick to forget or minimize those religious truths in order to feed cultural taboos and shame culture. Find out about her journey, her book, and hear how she exudes all things sensual, sensitive, and safe.Links:https://youtu.be/NrB8Iamo0OAThe Village Auntie on IG---Seriously, check out the videos to learn SO MUCH!: @villageauntie, also where you can click on the bio to buy Passage: A 31 Day Guided Journey with The Village AuntieThe Village Auntie to schedule a workshop: angelica@thevillageauntie.comThe Village Auntie monthly series Lights On at the Amaliah podcast: https://www.amaliah.com/post/56963/brand-new-sex-series-on-the-amaliah-podcast-angelica-lindsey-ali-village-auntyWeb: www.mommyingwhilemuslim.comEmail: mommyingwhilemuslim@gmail.comFB: Mommying While Muslim page and Mommyingwhilemuslim groupIG: @mommyingwhilemuslimpodcast

This week we are joined by sisters, Nafisa and Selina Bakkar the founders of Amaliah, a media platform that amplifies the voices of Muslim women to create cultural change. Amaliah initially started as a modest fashion brand but later on took a turn when Nafisa and Selina realised they were not that into fashion and Amaliah had a bigger purpose. The turning point for them came when David Cameron said: “young Muslim men are vulnerable to radicalisation because of the traditional submissiveness of Muslim women”. The Muslim community instantly reacted on Twitter and created the hashtag #traditionallySubmissive. A hashtag to celebrate the many achievements of Muslim women. Selina and Nafisa felt the responsibility to stand up for their community and amplify the voices of Muslim women and to use their exposure to speak out on the issues that affected their community. From this, Amaliah the online platform was born, now attracting over 3.2 million visitors a month. They have a roster of over 300 writers, writing on topics ranging from mental health and mosques to dating and current affairs. They were named by Forbes as one to watch and featured in CNN, Metro and WIRED, also recognised in The Evening Standard Progress 1000. In this podcast episode we discuss: Mindfulness. Using your brand's voice to create change. Growing your business and taking it in a new direction. Selina reflects on becoming a single mum whilst six months pregnant and Nafisa explains how an experience in Spain brought her out of self-despair.
