Mark interviews Elizabeth Andre (AKA Karen and Victoria) about her/their journey through writing, collaboration, and the new book SELF-PUBLISHING LESBIAN FICTION. Prior to the interview, Mark reads comments from recent episodes and shares a word about this episode's sponsor. This episode is sponsored by ScribeCount (affiliate link). Spend less time logging in to multiple platforms and crunching numbers, and more time writing and marketing your books thanks to ScribeCount's handy all-in-one interface. In their conversation, Karen, Victoria, and Mark talk about: The background of how Karen and Victoria got started as writers, and then about how they met and why they started writing together Karen's earliest memories coming up with playtime stories with her younger brother that took on a "soap opera" and "serialized" format The concept of how to earn money that came down to one of two things: Sell drugs, or write porn Researching the writing of gay male porn by getting magazines and reading through them Coming up with numerous ephamisms for the male sex organ appendage How Victoria comes from a long list of writers, including her father and how she wanted to be anything BUT a writer The two of them each discovering the joy and the magical allure that is journalism Being one of the many writers who was "Sherry Lovelace" for the UK edition of Penthouse Magazine Meeting at a Gay Journalist Convention and clicking, but not really having that much in common Discovering that, despite the "common wisdom" from traditional publishing, money could be made from writing lesbian fiction. That shift, of course, came from the rise of self-publishing Who the readers of gay male fiction and lesbian fiction are The origin of the pen name Elizabeth Andre Some of the logistics of how the two write together Who the book Self-Publishing Lesbian Fiction is for, with an analogy of an off-the-rack suit and a tailored suit The tally of the $35 and $45 dollars owed from various publishers and platforms The term and use of "Sapphic Fiction" and how it is more inclusive of lesbian, bi-sexual, trans, and non-binary Some of the barriers that arise when writing lesbian fiction How self-publishing can overcome so many of the barriers within traditional publishing And more...   After the interview, Mark reflects on a couple of topics brought up, specifically "serialized playtime stories" and the "tailored" work of writers.   Links of Interest: https://www.tiktok.com/@elizabethandrelesfic https://www.instagram.com/elizabethandreauthor/ https://www.facebook.com/elizabethandreauthor https://twitter.com/Elizalesbian https://substack.com/@elizabethandre ScribeCount (Mark's Affiliate Link) How to Write a Howling Good Story Smashwords link Patron Coupon for 75% off EP 290 - Thanks for the Inspiration, Jim Turcott Mark's YouTube Channel Buy Mark a Coffee Patreon for Stark Reflections How to Access Patreon RSS Feeds Best Book Ever Podcast Lovers Moon Podcast The Relaxed Author Buy eBook Direct Buy Audiobook Direct Publishing Pitfalls for Authors An Author's Guide to Working with Libraries & Bookstores Wide for the Win Mark's Canadian Werewolf Books This Time Around (Short Story) A Canadian Werewolf in New York Stowe Away (Novella) Fear and Longing in Los Angeles Fright Nights, Big City Lover's Moon Hex and the City The Canadian Mounted: A Trivia Guide to Planes, Trains and Automobiles Yippee Ki-Yay Motherf*cker: A Trivia Guide to Die Hard   Elizabeth Andre has been self-publishing lesbian fiction since 2014. One ink-black October night, when the power is out in the hills of Oakland, California, a stranger asks Amy to transcribe a love letter for him. When the stranger suddenly disappears, Amy's search for the letter's recipient leads her straight to Q and the most beautiful illuminated manuscript she has ever seen, the Codex Argentus, hidden away in Q's Library of Books That Don't Exist—and to a group of data privacy vigilantes who want her to burn Q to the ground. Amy's curiosity becomes her salvation, as she's drawn closer and closer to the secret societies and crackpot philosophers that haunt the city's abandoned warehouses and defunct train depots. All of it leads to an opportunity of a lifetime: an artist's residency deep in the holographic halls of Q headquarters. It's a dream come true—so long as she follows Q's rules. Thanks for this wonderful conversation, Hilary! All the best! -- Arts Calling is produced by Jaime Alejandro (cruzfolio.com). Through tech that disassembles soldiers and sends them as beams of light into combat zones and reassembles them upon re-entry, Dietz realizes that she is experiencing the war between Earth and Mars differently than others: she’s jumping around its timeline, which gives her a unique and horrifying view of battles and comrades lost and gained. This is a uniquely layered, tightly-written story that stays with readers long after they finish the last page, as its themes resonate with contemporary issues. Find more about Hugo-winning author Kameron Hurley at her website. More information about The Light Brigade HERE. Synopsis and review of The Light Brigade at Publishers Weekly. Also this week, Lise and Andi shout out the Golden Crown Literary Society convention, which is going on right now! https://lezgeekoutcast.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/lgo_58_light_brigade.mp3

Becoming Cliterate And How Lesfic Can Lead The Way The Lesbian Review Podcast Sheena is joined by Karelia Stetz-Waters today to talk about how important well written sex is for f/f books especially in an age of unhappy and sexually frustrated young people. In this episode: Becoming Cliterate - what it is and where it comes from Studies about orgasms and the importance of the clitoris Why great sex is important in lesbian fiction How Karelia Stetz-Waters wants to educate mainstream romance writers One of the worst sex scenes ever Fading to grey vs graphic sex The struggle for the Gen X The vocabulary gap between generations Becoming more diverse in our language Plus hear Karelia Stetz-Waters read a sex scene from her novel Worth The Wait   In this podcast we talk about these books Becoming Cliterate by Dr Laurie Mintz Publisher: Harper Audio On audio: Yes Synopsis We've been thinking about sex all wrong. Mainstream media, movies, and porn have taught us that sex = penis + vagina, and everything else is just secondary. Standard penetration is how men most reliably achieve orgasm. The problem is, women don't orgasm this way. We've separated our most reliable route to orgasm - clitoral stimulation - from how we feel we should orgasm - penetration. As a result we've created a pleasure gap between women and men: 50 percent of 18- to 35-year-old women say they have trouble reaching orgasm with a partner 64 percent of women versus 91 percent of men said they had an orgasm at their last sexual encounter 55 percent of men versus 4 percent of women say they usually reach orgasm during first-time hookup sex In Becoming Cliterate, psychology professor and human sexuality expert Dr. Laurie Mintz exposes the broader cultural problem that's perpetuating this gap and what we can do about it. Pulling together evidence from biology, sociology, linguistics, and sex therapy into one comprehensive, accessible, and prescriptive book, Becoming Cliterate features: Cultural and historical analysis of female orgasm (spoiler: the problem's been going on for ages) An anatomy section (it's all custom under the hood) Proven techniques for cliterate sex (it starts with training the sex organ between your ears) A comprehensive final chapter for men (because you don't have to have a clitoris to be cliterate) By dispelling the lies, misunderstandings, and myths that have been holding us back, Becoming Cliterate tackles both personal and political problems and replaces them with updated outlooks and practical skills needed to change our collective perspective on sex. It's time to finally inform women and men on how to have satisfying experiences in bed that benefit both parties. The revolution is cuming - and Becoming Cliterate offers a radical, simple solution to progress and pleasure for all.   Get the audio/book on Amazon here -> https://amzn.to/2X2IMof (this link works for Amazon US, UK, Canada, Italy and Germany)   Worth The Wait by Karelia Stetz-Waters Publisher Forever Yours On audio: no Synopsis A second chance at first love . . . For fifteen years, Avery Crown tried to forget her best friend Merritt Lessing. The late nights studying, the whispered confidences, and the little touches that never turned into something more. Unfortunately, her efforts have not been as successful as her TV career as the queen of home renovation. So when she runs into Merritt at their high school reunion, Avery asks for one night with the woman she's always wanted . . . Merritt spent high school pining after Avery, but never made a move-their friendship meant too much. The one time it seemed things might change, Avery chose her budding career. So Merritt did the same, throwing herself into her remodeling business. Now Avery's back, and while Merritt still hasn't forgiven her for walking away the first time, they can't keep their hands off each other. But when their professional paths cross, and it seems like Avery is choosing her career once again, Merritt will have to decide if she's willing to let go of the past and give herself a second chance with her first love.   Get the book on Amazon here -> https://amzn.to/2Icqduw (this link works for Amazon US, UK, Canada, Italy and Germany)   Something True by Karelia Stetz-Waters Publisher Forever Yours On audio: no Synopsis Don't miss Karelia's newest release in the Out in Portland series, Worth the Wait, available this summer! Tate Grafton has a tough exterior, but underneath she's kind, caring, and fiercely loyal. That's why she first started working at Out in Portland Coffee - it was her way of repaying the shop's owner for taking her in as a homeless teenager. Nine years later, the coffee shop is floundering and Tate feels like she's letting life pass her by . . . until she shares an unforgettable night with a beautiful stranger. When the mysterious woman disappears the next morning, Tate doesn't even know her name. Laura Enfield was supposed to be in Portland for only a few days - just long enough to oversee a simple business deal before joining her conservative father on his political campaign. But when the closeted Laura romances an employee of the coffee shop her company is shutting down, things get suddenly complicated. Now, the lies she's told for years are beginning to unravel, and her biggest secret is about to be exposed. Laura can't stop thinking about the barista with the soulful eyes, but after a lifetime of deception, can she finally embrace something true?   Get the book on Amazon here -> https://amzn.to/2E7Arsc (this link works for Amazon US, UK, Canada, Italy and Germany)   BONUS: Karelia Stetz-Waters suggests that if would really like to become cliterate (and watch one of the sexiest pieces of media I've ever seen) tcheck out the OMGYes project. Hear how Lori's debut novel was inspired by her mother’s life. It is a LGBTQ-themed historical novel set in the 1930s and 40s about a young woman who struggles to define herself in a world where she does not seem to fit. It was a Foreword INDIES 2017 Book of the Year Awards Winner, and a finalist in the following contests: Self Publishers Review 2017, Golden Crown Literary Society in two categories (Debut and Historical), Women’s Fiction Writers Association (Debut category), and  is a B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree. Lori worked as a social worker and licensed family therapist in San Francisco before turning to writing. She now lives in Oregon, in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains, surrounded by forest where hiking trails that weave through the trees follow and cross a creek with crashing waterfalls. Finding solace in nature and in the company of Ponderosa Pines over 100 feet tall, pushing toward old-growth status, she writes stories, putters in her garden and hikes with her rescue dogs. Edge Of Glory by Rachel Spangler narrated by Ann Etter   Book Clips   Welcome to Book Clips, the mini podcast where authors and narrators give you a taste of a book with a short snippet.  In this episode we hear a reading from Edge Of Glory by Rachel Spangler  Synopsis  Corey LaCroix only wanted to snowboard, but Olympic medals and world championships only carry you so far when your knees ache and you're suddenly an underdog for the first time in her career. Elise Brandeis doesn't need a training partner, especially an unorthodox has-been snowboarder with an attitude. But Elise has already lost a full season to injury, and she's struggling to make the Olympic ski team. Can teaming up with Corey give her the edge she needs to go for gold, or will the snowboarder's infuriatingly cocky smile and rock hard abs prove a distraction she simply can't afford?  Both champions brace themselves for the run of a lifetime. Putting their broken bodies on the line, they fight the competition, the clock, and the frozen terrain for one more chance at glory. But this time, as they ride the razor's edge between victory and defeat, the stakes are steeper than any mountain they will ever face when legacies and hearts collide.  Rachel Spangler is the Golden Crown Literary Society and Rainbow Award-winning author of ten lesbian romance novels and novellas.
