Hope Carpenter is a pastor, author, wife, and mom. Along with her husband Ron, she pastors Redemption Church in Greenville, South Carolina and San Jose, California. She has also authored two books, The Little Pink Book, and most recently, The Most Beautiful Disaster. When Hope is not helping her husband lead Redemption or spending time with her grandchildren, she often travels to Pakistan, Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Mexico to do missions work under the umbrella of Hope for the Nations. Hope's heart and passion is seeing people's lives changed and transformed so that they can be everything God has created them to be.In my time with Hope, we talk about the masks we wear as humans and how to work toward a different reality in the church and in our relationships. Hope also openly shares about her own story of infidelity and marital struggles, demonstrating what it looks like for leaders to “go first” in sharing their own vulnerabilities. I absolutely loved my conversation with Hope. Her words are so encouraging and filled with so much wisdom. She demonstrates the beauty of vulnerability, the beauty of rock bottom, and reminded me that the goal of following God is not perfection, but freedom.
We are taking some time over the next few weeks to discuss what happens when you make a mistake. Last week, we heard from Hope Carpenter. Hope shared how she nearly destroyed her family, her church, and her ministry by living a double life, but then God did something miraculous. Out of her brokenness, He made something beautiful. If you didn't get a chance to listen to the episode, go back and give it a listen. In today's counselor-on-call episode, I'm going to walk you through some tangible tactics to help you after you've made a mistake. As always, this isn't a substitute for counseling. Rather, these are suggestions and thoughts to help you on your journey. We've all been there, maybe we said something we regret, maybe we made an error at work, or maybe something like Hope talked about last week - a catastrophic mistake like adultery. I love Hope's story of redemption. She is helping others find freedom and healing through her openness and honesty. Your mistakes can either make you burdened by guilt, shame and then you keep repeating behaviors. Or you can learn, grow, and change. While this list isn't exhaustive, I believe it's a great start to help you find growth, redemption, and forgiveness. Own your mistakes - it's easy to become defensive and blame others or take on a victim mentality. When you own your mistakes, you empower yourself to make the necessary changes for growth and development. Apologize to others (if appropriate) - be open and honest Reflect on what you can do differently next time - be curious Don't ruminate - Instead of getting stuck in the past, practice forgiveness and focus on the present. It's appropriate to feel remorse, but there's a difference between remorse and rumination Be kind and offer yourself grace What would you add to the list? Hey friends! Welcome to Thrive and The Art of Living Free Podcast! This month we are taking a deep dive into what happens when you make mistakes. We've all been there. We somehow do things we never intended to do. When we make a mistake, we have the opportunity to learn and grow or walk-in guilt and shame. As we explore this critical topic, I hope that you'll find rest from guilt and shame, hope instead of weariness, and growth instead of stuckness. Because of the content, these are conversations for little ears. Be sure to pop in some earbuds and pull out a notepad because the episodes this month are full of hope, inspiration, and practical tips for life change. In today's episode, we talk with Hope Carpenter, a mom, wife, Pastor, and author of the book, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DISASTER. Hope and I sit down to talk about the lasting impact of childhood trauma, brokenness, and how to experience healing. Hope Carpenter nearly destroyed her family, her church, and her ministry by living a double life, but then God did something miraculous. Out of her brokenness, He made something beautiful. She is the co-founder of Redemption Church, a megachurch that started in Greenville, South Carolina. The church has satellite locations in San Jose, California; Raleigh, North Carolina; and the Dominican Republic. Hope and her husband, Ron, live in San Jose, California, and Greenville, SC. Listen in as Hope, and I discuss: Hope shares her story of past childhood trauma, brokenness, and healing. Trauma impacts our relationships, the brain, and the body. Our past can impact our future if we are not willing to look at it and be honest. We hid our true authentic selves because we are afraid. There is nothing too complicated for God to heal. On this episode, Hope Carpenter and I discuss the Other Side! I have always been so interested in mediums and the work they do. It eventually led me to practice mediumship as well. It's been an amazing, wild, loving journey. Some of the things we talked about on this episode are: 1. How we are all mediums and the easy ways we can start to connect to our loved ones in Spirit. 2. Releasing fear and doubt when practicing mediumship. 3. The importance of embodiment and staying grounded in spiritual work. 4. Why the 5D ascension obsession could be a trauma response. 5. Dealing with backlash, skeptics and cynics!
