You could call today's show a “second coming” because this will be the second time Reverend Dr. Chris Keller has appeared on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy. Dr. Keller, III, is an Episcopal priest and theologian who, through his ministry and life, has blended scholarly pursuits with pop culture knowledge into an innovative leadership style. I liken him to EF Hutton because “When he speaks, people listen.” Today, we listen as he speaks about his new book, Getting On Toward Home, a thoughtful collection of funeral sermons written during his career as a priest and theologian. There are mountains of meaning is this heartfelt, 124-page book. Listen to hear Dr. Keller discuss why he chose the twelve homilies included in the book, including those written for late friends and family. We also discuss his ever-evolving opinions on hot button issues within the Episcopal Church and how you can get a signed copy of Getting On Toward Home at noon on Tuesday, October 24th at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, in downtown Little Rock.

Today on Up In Your Business you will be swept away as art history professor Gayle Seymour, Associate Dean at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, teaches us about Arkansas's history and culture. Gayle wrote the grant that led to the 60-year Central High Little Rock Nine reunion where President Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker. We will hear how Gayle commissioned the Cuban born composer, Tania Leon, to score a dramatic opera about the “Little Rock Nine” and enlisted Henry Louis Gates to write the libretto (words). This project has been stalled due to the pandemic of 2020, but we will preview a little of the opera on today's show. We will also learn about Japanese American Internment art and get an excerpt from its most famous Arkansas resident Star Trek's Mr. Sulu, George Takei. Other areas of Gayle's expertise inclued American art, Women in Art, and my favorite, Depression-era post office murals (think Norman Rockwell on a wall). Over 1400 murals were painted during the 1930's and 40's, as part of the New Deal, nineteen of which are located in Arkansas. And if that is not enough, she is an avid collector of antique Dolls! Listen and get a lesson on an array of interesting topics from this very interesting person.

God's best work is a strategy that you can use over and over again. As humans, we pray to God for miracles in our business. He can and will bless you with abundance, but God wants a cycle, not a singular success.Today, I share a story about how God showed up in my business recently. I prayed and fasted for one specific manifestation. When I didn't receive that exact blessing, I became frustrated and felt abandoned by Him.But then, God guided me to understand that He had answered my prayer with a strategy. He reminded me that everything He does in my business is for His Glory, not mine. God is a God of systems and prophecies. He is a God of strategy. So, when we look to God to deliver a miracle for our business, we have to remember that the miracle is in the strategy. Have a question that you want answered on the show? Send us a text!Episode 24: Is Your Past Affecting The Way You Show Up In Your Business? How many of us have these internal stories telling us who we are and What we can and can't do What we always or never do What we are good at or what we suck at I'm willing to bet all of us But have you ever stopped to ask yourself - Who says whether or not I can or can't? Who says if I am good at something or suck at something?  How do we even know if these are true or not?  And the reason I bring this up is because the reality is what tells us whether we can or can't, whether we're good or we suck is our own beliefs we hold And where do beliefs come from?  Well beliefs come from our past - they come from some situation or experience you had in the past where you chose to do something and then you interpreted the outcome to mean something about you and your identity as a business ownerNot to worry, it's human nature, but it could be the very thing holding you back in your business and keeping you stuck in the entrepreneur burnout cycleBY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU'LL LEARN:The neuroscience of how beliefs are formed from your past experiences How your current beliefs may be keeping you from experiencing the success and freedom you deserve A simple 10 minute exercise you can do to break free from your past Want to dive deeper into how you can rewire your subconscious and eliminate limiting beliefs so that you can finally have the impact, income, and freedom you know you were meant for?  Join me for a free workshop! My guest today on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy is Little Rock restaurant royalty, Mr. Louis Petit. Chef Petit's Arkansas folklore began in 1975, when Jacque and Suzanne Treton decided to bring their European cuisine to Little Rock. Their restaurant was aptly, and now famously, called Jacque and Suzanne's on the top floor of the First Commercial Bank Building in downtown Little Rock. The Treton's first order of business was to hire restaurant manager Paul Bash, who wanted a European staff to run the restaurant. This is when he hired Mr. Louis Petit, a Belgian, as Jacque and Suzanne's first maitre'd. But the Treton's didn't stay long. After just two years, they left and sold the up-scale restaurant to Mr. Bash, Mr. Petit, and Mr. Moore who, for the next 10 years, offered fine dining, elegant surroundings, and a view of Little Rock that was unmatched. Louis' story is a foreigner's dream. Hearing him speak of his life is a reminder of why America, with all its flaws, is still the land of opportunity, the greatest country in the world, and why the American Dream is still alive and well. Hear the culinary impact that Louis has had on all of our dining experiences and then learn about some of the restaurants he has inspired: Maison Louis, Café Prego, Graffiti's, Alouettes, and now Petit & Keet and Cypress Social. And my favorite tip of this interview: why he thinks debt is an opportunity for success.

Right now as I release this podcast episode in November 2023 we are being flooded with videos and images of the horrific atrocities happening in the Israel/Palestine conflict. And sadly the case is that at any given moment in the world we live in, violence, displacement, persecution and war is taking place somewhere in the world. When we bear witness to this – how does it affect how we show up for our business? Should we talk about it? Should we carry on as normal? Or should we shut up shop and stop selling? It feels there are loud opinions arguing all sides, leaving us feeling we're never doing the ‘right' thing. With that backdrop I'm talking to Dalia on the podcast today – a Pilates instructor based in London, who herself has experienced war and conflict for many years in her home country of Lebanon. In this episode we talk about:  Dalia's own experience with trauma living in a country where she experienced conflict and what this taught her about suppressing, ignoring and avoiding her feelings. The importance of acknowledging and hearing the voice that tells you to slow or stop and feel if it is hard to do business right now  Bringing a non-judgemental approach to both ourselves and to others in how they handle sharing or not sharing their thoughts and opinions on world events on a public platform What can be going on behind the scenes for us and others in how we choose to process and move through the grief we feel when we watch others suffer. And how ‘business as usual' isn't necessarily a bad thing for some (but in fact necessary). Tools that Dalia uses to connect with herself and not lose sight of the good and beauty in the world when everything feels dark and difficult – including mindfulness, walking, movement, breath-work and leaning in to communities and networks to feel less alone. The importance of talking therapies and practitioners in giving us a way to accept and understand ourselves more, and the ripple impact this has of understanding and showing compassion for others in a world that would otherwise seek to polarise and pit us against one another.     We would love to know what you think about this episode and whether it helped you. This week on Up In Your Business we revisit my interview with Kate Askew, owner of the Yella Dog Press in Little Rock, AR. Kate is a native of Little Rock who graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1985. She worked for many years as a book, paper, and ephemera specialist for estate sales, and in 2002, she started her own business buying and selling rare printed materials. Eventually, buying and collecting antique texts led her to a desire to create her own. Kate saw a printing press for sale in the classifieds of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and purchased it, along with several fonts of type. Using antique type fonts dating as far back as 1856, Kate creates posters, cards, coasters, and more on a 1903 Chandler & Price platen press and a 1940 Vandercook IV flatbed proof press.

Our guests today on Up In Your Business are Renie Rule and Charlie Mack, from Arkansas Restore Hope: A non-profit founded in 2016 by Governor Asa Hutchinson to solve the problems of incarceration, recidivism, and over-abundance of children in foster care. Having known Ms. Rule for years, I can think of no one more capable to execute such important societal duties. As Community Outreach Director, Renie is the perfect advocate for Arkansas's Restore Hope. She has a degree in Social Work and a career that spans decades with reputable non-profits such as UAMS, Arkansas Hospice, and she is the founder of Arkansas's very successful Paws In Prison program. With her today is Mr. Charlie Mack, another success story who, with four other felons and gang leaders, started their own initiative called Empowering My Environment. Listen and hear about Mr. Charlie Mack's success story: what led to his imprisonment, his disturbing but fascinating statistics on crime, punishment, and foster care and, my favorite part, his REDEMPTION. If, like me, you feel you are four or five degrees away from any of the aforementioned issues, or that these things don't affect you, think again. Knowledge and dignity create better families, a broader workforce, lower crime, lower taxes, create stronger communities and economics that trickle up.

On this episode of CEO Amplify, we bring you valuable insights on goal setting, business optimization, and self-care for entrepreneurs. When a sudden life event brings us down, we need a way to make consistent progress without feeling overwhelmed. I want to encourage you: You do NOT need to do it all! Be honest with your difficulties and find a way to simplify your business without feeling guilty. The way to do this is to only focus on the tasks that you truly need to do. Review what is working in your business and let go of what is not working. Keep the things that you as the CEO have to do and pause or delegate the rest. When your personal life gets busy, it is your responsibility to take care of yourself; no one can do this for you. Take time to step away, but also know when you're going to come back. Avoid setting huge goals that you cannot realistically achieve. Focus on adding one habit to your routine at a time. Advertising and social media would have you believe in a constant state of thriving and growth, but this is simply not realistic. Give yourself permission to take a break. **** Enjoying this podcast? Please share it with someone who would benefit. Also, don’t forget to rate and leave a review.  Your feedback not only means the world to me, but it also helps us reach more entrepreneurs like yourself who are ready to amplify their businesses. My guest today on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy is Mr. Ray Rodgers: a boxer, coach, cutman, administrator, three-time Hall of Fame recipient and tireless community leader. If he wasn't known as the world's best cut man in the boxing industry, he'd probably be known as a standup comedian, because he is funny. A “cutman” is the magic man in the corner of the boxing ring, administering trade secrets for healing his athlete. A bad cut above the eye or on the scalp can split open like a ripe tomato, creating a stream of blood, and making it almost impossible to see. This calamity can cost the boxer his fight. A good cutman is so important to a boxer's success that Mr. Rodgers has been flown all over the world to aid and assist during boxing matches. You may remember him as the cutman for Little Rock's former Olympic medalist, Jermain Taylor. Find out what it means to be a cutman, how Ray went from being a college football player to a well-respected boxing coach, and why he thinks amateur boxing is the best way to teach young people confidence and self-discipline, both in life and in the boxing ring.

How are you doing? So? I am recording this episode on the Wednesday before it goes out on the Monday, which is very unlike me. But one thing I pride myself on is being honest and upfront and showing you that business is not always the Instagram dream that we want it to be. And these last few weeks I have really, really struggled to get myself organized and get things ahead of time. In fact, I haven't sent an email to my list for two weeks, I think now. And before that I was sending it like, I think I was just about sending it consistently as I normally do on a Tuesday and a Thursday. But I have had a ton of stuff in these last six weeks. Like, work stuff from traveling to meetings, to being away from home for like two and a half weeks in the States, and then being back, and then being away up in, Newcastle, doing my own in-person events, doing other people's events. And then I have had a lot go on in my personal life, and it's not to say that I wanna sit here and share with you all, not that I don't normally share, but some of these things that have happened are not my stories to tell. But the reason I wanted to mention it again, is not for sympathy. It's not for people going, is everything okay? And you know, like anything that I really don't want you to do that, that's fine and I am fine. I think the reason I wanna talk about it is because, or the reason I've brought it up is because stuff happens in our life. And what do we do when literally it feels like the world is falling apart around you and you are still trying to show up and run your business? Because that is one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do, ever. I was thinking about this, so I did a coaching call with my executive club members and we're really kind of changing up how things are happening. And in fact, I came back from the States completely fired up of like, right, loads of changes are happening and then personal life kind of fell a bit on the floor and that all got shelved, obviously. But one of the things that is gonna change in the club is, is how I'm showing up and what I'm doing and, and I guess being more of the coach that I am, And doing more of that. So I asked the members...
