Known for its scratch-made chicken fingers and signature sauce, Guthrie's aims to blend its heritage with Marietta's evolving culture. The drive-thru operates daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering hand-breaded chicken fingers, cole slaw, fries, Texas toast, and their famous sauce. This new location will create about 35 jobs. Guthrie's, founded in Haleyville, Alabama, now has over 60 locations across 10 states, continuing its national expansion. STORY 2: Cobb to Consider Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Expansion Plan The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will review Mt. Bethel Christian Academy's expansion master plan during a zoning hearing. The plan aims to replace temporary classrooms with permanent buildings and relocate sports facilities on its high school campus, which can accommodate up to 625 students. The academy, independent of Mt. Bethel Church, faces a lease termination for its lower and middle schools, necessitating new facilities by 2028. Proposed changes include new academic buildings, improved traffic access, and relocated sports facilities, sparking opposition from local residents concerned about disruption and lack of detailed plans. Commissioner JoAnn Birrell plans a campus walkthrough before the hearing. STORY 3: 'You Deserve It': Veteran Detainees Presented with Resources at Cobb Jail Cobb County Sheriff Deputy Nedra Handia discovered numerous resources for veterans, including the Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court and The Warrior Alliance, after connecting with Vietnam veteran Daniel Hydrick. Inspired, she organized a program for six veteran detainees to learn about these resources. With support from Sheriff Craig Owens, changes were made in the Cobb Jail, including a special wing for veterans. Detainee Gary Williams, a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran, appreciated the support and plans to share the information. The festivities included an arts and crafts fair with over 40 vendors, live dance performances, a petting zoo, and activities for kids like inflatable bounce houses and photos with Santa. Vendors like Two Crafty Ladies of Georgia and Samantha Raeburn offered unique gifts and experiences, such as handcrafted decorations and "blind date with a book" packages. The event, supported by sponsors, featured fair rides and food vendors, making it a festive tradition for local families. STORY 5: No. 10: Cobb Schools Nixes $50 Million Event Center The Cobb County Board of Education canceled plans for a $50 million event center in July, following Superintendent Chris Ragsdale's recommendation due to economic concerns reminiscent of pre-2008 recession indicators. The board voted 6-0 to halt the project, initially approved in March 2023, which faced criticism for its cost and lack of detailed planning. Critics included board member Becky Sayler and the citizen group Watching the Funds — Cobb. Marietta resident Topher Evans, frustrated by lost shipments, created a Facebook group highlighting these issues. The group has grown, with members sharing stories of delayed packages, including essential items like medication. Despite FedEx's statement about efforts to resolve delays, many customers remain dissatisfied, expressing their concerns on social media. Evans now avoids using FedEx for non-express shipments, citing ongoing unresolved issues at the Austell hub. STORY 7: Ruby's Sourdough Pizza Opens in Smyrna Ruby’s Sourdough Pizza in Smyrna aims to create a community hub with its freshly-made sourdough pizzas and inviting dining space. Owner Chris Rimby designed the venue to host families and friends, featuring an outdoor patio, greenspace, and a stage for events. The menu includes red and white pies, with popular options like "The Roundabout" and the mushroom white pizza. The restaurant also offers a variety of drinks and is pet-friendly. Drinking for Linsey always created problems, right from when she went on a school trip to Europe and was reprimanded for drinking when she wasn't supposed to. Drinking became a part of whichever identity she was trying on when she was growing up, as it is with so many of us when we're finding our feet and finding out who we are. She is very passionate about blaming the substance - this highly addictive, well-marketed substance - rather than the individual when it comes to alcohol. Since removing alcohol she has found her true authentic self, and has never felt happier - and like many of us, she wishes she'd found this out sooner. Residents at Coalinga State Hospital are blaming staff members for infecting patients as reports of COVID-19 related deaths are increasing at the facility. “It’s like they're putting us in a tunnel, pouring gasoline down the tunnel and lighting a match,” resident James Hydrick said. In the past week alone, Hydrick said he’s seen nearly 10 ambulances leave with COVID positive patients in critical condition. And he said it’s due in part to staff floating between quarantine and non-quarantine units. “We even had one staff member who said ‘is this a quarantine unit’ and we said no,” Hydrick said. “[She responded] ‘oh my I’m not supposed to be here, I work on a quarantine unit’ and she wound up working anyway even though she acknowledged she’s not supposed to be here.” The civil confinement facility has reported 275 COVID-19 cases and less than 11 deaths since the start of the pandemic. But residents argue the number of deaths is higher. “Six have died since Thursday,” said resident Andrew

During the closing Days of World War II, in Europe, two U boat submarines secretly left ports and slipped beneath the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. One of those U boats number U-235, would end its journey in Argentina. It has been said this sub carried Hitler. The other U boat, number U-234, had a far different destination and cargo. The sub was destined for Japan. Let's not forget The European war would end on May 8 1945. The war in Japan would rage on for another four full months until September 2, 1945. Critical MassHow Nazi Germany Surrendered Enriched Uranium for the United States Atomic BombDr. Delmar Bergen, retired director of the Nuclear Weapons Program at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where the world's first atom bombs were designed, has gone on record stating the Manhattan Project, counter to what has been believed for the past 70 years, did not alone create the first nuclear weapons dropped on Japan to end World War Two. United States forces received enriched uranium surrendered from Nazi Germany to help make the bombs, according to Dr. Bergen.“It is my view as a physicist…, that the effort the Germans put into preparing and shipping the 560 kilograms of uranium oxide surrendered on board the German submarine U-234, shows it was enriched in the isotope U235. In other words, it was enriched to create a nuclear weapon,” said Bergen. “This runs counter to the traditional history of these events but I am confident in my conclusion…. My belief is that the German scientists associated with this cache believed the amount of U235 carried by U-234 was sufficient to create a nuclear bomb.”The assertion comes on the heels of an historical conflict broiling in Germany where, in July 2011, 126,000 barrels of spent uranium from the Nazi atomic bomb program was reported to have been discovered (see: Daily Mail Online 13 July, 2011).“Our association sank radioactive wastes from the last war, uranium waste, from the preparation of the German atom bomb,” reports a 1967 document from Germany's ASSE II nuclear waste dump. The 126,000-barrel total would be well over 300,000 tons, a massive volume of uranium waste.Historians have contested the claim of the document on Nazi spent uranium based on the assertion the Nazis never successfully enriched uranium. Their evidence has been the total lack of any spent uranium stores that would certainly exist if uranium had been enriched; and the argument the Germans never had a uranium enrichment production plant to begin with. The find of over 300,000 tons hidden in “crumbling” mines outside Hamburg, if true, eliminates one leg of their argument. Anthony N. Stranges, a history of science professor at Texas A&M University, is a proponent for considering the new evidence and adjusting the history as appropriate when evidence proves valid.Stranges says researcher Carter Hydrick has been waiting 15 years for the uranium waste to be found. A decade-and-a-half ago Hydrick, in his book Critical Mass: How Nazi Germany Surrendered Enriched Uranium for the United States' Atomic Bomb, predicted the store of uranium existed.
