Steven Gerrard is one of the leading contenders for the Newcastle United job if, as reported, Steve Bruce will soon be sacked. But should the Anfield great make the move from Rangers, where he has done an incredible job, if he was offered the position? And would it help or hinder his chances of potentially taking over from Jurgen Klopp at his beloved Liverpool? It's one of the big talking points of the Blood Red podcast, hosted by Matt Addison and featuring the Liverpool ECHO's LFC correspondent Paul Gorst, and Kai Delaney. Also on the agenda are comments Gini Wijnaldum made about his time at Paris Saint-Germain. But, while it's not gone well for the Dutch international in the French capital so far, have Liverpool replaced him yet? Injury news is discussed, including the latest on Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, while Paul explains what happened at the StatsBomb conference, where he heard from Liverpool's director of research, Ian Graham, and sat one row behind the club's sporting director, Michael Edwards. Welcome to the First State Kopites podcast. It's episode 6 of season 3 - a podcast for Liverpool supporters in Delaware and friends of Delaware. Thanks for listening on your preferred platform, we are available on ALL of them. Where did you watch the game? Daz, Sean and Paul share their very different matchday watching experience. Recorded August 30th after Chelsea came to Anfield and prevented us from making it 3 wins in 3: ‘When you employ Burnley tactics with better players, this can happen' - time wasting and more Tactics from Liverpool - what worked, what didn't? If the sending off happens with 15 to 20 minutes to go in the first half, what happens? Taylor gave 13 fouls to Chelsea and 4 to Liverpool (none in the second half) BTW Chelsea twitter hates Anthony Taylor Lot of long shots in the second half - purposeful or no? Can I just complain about the bias that says Azpliacueta is being clever (when falling to the ground holding his face), and others being described as cheating? Chelsea - how dangerous are they? Michael Edwards is leaving - what does this mean? Transfers - less than 24 hours left - Sean? Other stuff: Burnley - Bamford and his ‘Ju jitsu' comment Ronaldo makes United stronger title contenders? Really?

Dan Morgan is joined by James Martin and Matt Addison to talk through each player in the Reds squad, and place them into four different categories: 'not going anywhere', 'youth', 'get rid' and 'uncertain'. Liverpool are considering making a transfer move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, who is valued at around £40m, as a possible replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. Matt Addison speaks to Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal), the chief football reporter for German outlet Sport1, the man who broke the news on Friday, to get the latest on the story and explore why Liverpool might be keen on the 24-year-old. Plettenberg has spoken to Neuhaus in recent days and he gives Blood Red the inside track on the Germany international, with some fascinating details on why Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards are showing an interest. Tactics writer Josh Williams also explains why Neuhaus would make sense for Klopp's side, with his strengths - not least his impeccable injury record - a good match for Liverpool's style of play. As the transfer window gets underway and big-name players like Ibrahima Konate are beginning to move clubs, the Liverpool.com NFL-inspired draft returns. Host Dan Morgan is joined by Joel Rabinowitz, debutant James Martin, and Blood Red's Matt Addison as they make their selections for who could make an impact for Liverpool from the bottom 12 Premier League clubs (including those who were promoted this season, and excluding those who were relegated). Each writer gets to pick five signings of their choice, and each pick must not exceed a current Transfermarkt value of over £50m. Picks must include at least one defender, one midfielder and one forward and each pick must be unique, so once a player is selected, no other writer can take them, with no more than two players from one club selected. Among the predictable picks are Raphinha, Pedro Neto and Yves Bissouma, while there are also some more left-field options who Michael Edwards could turn to as the draft unfolds.
