In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia return to the Ice Age franchise with the 4th installment Ice Age: Continental Drift released in 2012. Taking place years after Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Manny and Ellie's daughter Peaches is a teenager who wants to fit in with the other mammoths, but is looked as "weird" because she's half possum. Her friend Lewis is very kind towards her, but she has a massive crush on a mammoth named Ethan. However, Manny is overprotective of her. Thanks to Scrat's acorn shenanigans, the continents split and Manny, Diego, Sid, and Sid's grandmother are separated from the rest of the group including Ellie and Peaches stranded on an large chunk of ice drifting at sea trying to get back to them. Things become harder when a pirate ship led by a large primate named Captain Gut takes them on board and tries to force them to be his crew. When the film premiered in theaters, it made over $879 million dollars making it the highest grossing animated film that year. Despite that, it received mixed reviews from critics calling it derivative from the previous films while not capturing the same subtle humor and charm from the first film. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/old-school-lane/support

In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2009 Blue Sky Studios animated film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the third installment in the Ice Age franchise. Manny and Ellie are about to have a baby and that leaves Sid jealous that he isn't getting any more attention and Diego feeling like he's too old to being a part of the pack. Sid finds three eggs and decides to raise them as his own. That is the eggs hatched into three tyrannosaurus rex babies and the mother takes them and Sid underground into a lost world where the dinosaurs have been residing. It's up to Manny, Diego, Ellie, Crash, Eddie, and an adventurous weasel named Buck Wild to rescue Sid. Meanwhile, Scrat finds a flying squirrel who is both after the acorn he's been chasing and has a major crush on him. Who will he choose? When the film was released, it made over $886 million dollars out of a $90 million dollar budget. It was not only the highest grossing animated film of 2009, but the third highest grossing film of 2009 behind Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Avatar. In a year where studios such as Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, and Sony were producing critically acclaimed animated films with The Princess and the Frog, Up!, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs respectfully and newcomers such as Laika and Cartoon Saloon were entering into the competition with their big premieres Coraline and The Secret of Kells, how does Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs stack up? Though Chad Fischer's musical resume begins with School of Fish, the drummer didn't play on either of the band's two full-length albums. Just before the recording of 1993's Human Cannonball, Fischer was fired by producer Matt Wallace who brought in session drummer Josh Freese to play on the album. When Freese was unable to tour with School of Fish due to other commitments, Fischer rejoined as the live drummer until the band broke up shortly thereafter. Knowing that he wanted to make a living in music, Fischer acquired gear and built a recording studio where he recorded not only his post-School of Fish band, Lazlo Bane, where he sang and played guitars, but worked on a number of releases by artists like Star 69 and Jeremy Toback. A chance meeting with Colin Hay (Men at Work) resulted in a personal - and working - relationship that continues to this day. Perhaps Fischer's biggest musical accomplishment, however, was writing the song “Superman” which became the theme song for the long-running NBC comedy, Scrubs. These days, Fischer is writing, recording and producing for TV and movies, staying busy by releasing cover songs (and videos) and starting to work on new Lazlo Bane material.   Songs In This Episode: Intro - Superman by Lazlo Bane (from All The Time In The World) 7:47 - Alone Again by Chad Fischer (from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs soundtrack) Outro - 3 Strange Days by Lazlo Bane and School of Fish (from Someday We'll Be Together)   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon.
