Lynx Brutality 2024 is an international two-gun competition similar to other "Brutality" events found across the globe. Inspired and derived from two gun action challenge matches organized by Karl Kasarda and Ian McCollum of InRnageTV, Lynx Brutality is the Slovenian variant of the match that invites all competitors to demonstrate both their shooting skill and their grit through a grueling two-day, 10-stage match. Competitors at Lynx Brutality of course need a whole lot of gear if they're to participate in the Armored division and one such competitor is one we've spoken to before on the TFB Podcast, Mr. Mike Burns aka Bloke On The Range. While Mike has contributed to TFB and TFBTV in the past, these days Mike focuses entirely on his own channel where he primarily talks about historical weapons and their practical application. Mike has some interesting thoughts on his setup this year which was a "LARP" of an Iraqi National Policeman. Today we'll get his full gear breakdown as well as what some of his best and worst moments were from Lynx Brutality 2024. This week we talk to Edmundo Mireles, Jr.. We discuss the 1986 Miami Firefight and how that event change law enforcement. Mr. Mireles was born in Alice, Texas and raised in Beeville, TX. In 1971 he enlisted in the US Marines. He served as a Marine Security Guard at the US Embassy's in Sophia, Bulgaria; Reykjavik, Iceland; Brussels, Belgium and Madrid, Spain. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1979, Mr. Mireles entered on duty with the FBI. He is a 25-year veteran of the FBI with experience as an FBI Street Agent, Supervisor and Manager in a wide range of investigative and administrative areas, as well as extensive Undercover (UC) work. Mr. Mireles served as the primary Undercover Agent in scores of high level and high-risk narcotics, criminal and national security investigations. He has been involved in two deadly force confrontations with armed adversaries and has been wounded twice. He is married to Elizabeth who was also an FBI Agent. On April 11, 1986 eight FBI Agents and two Para-military bank robbers faced off on a quiet street in South Miami. This face off was the culmination of a seven-month investigation into several armored truck and bank robberies perpetrated by two unknown men. The stage was set for what has been called the FBI Miami Firefight. Eight FBI Agents and two bank robbers faced off in a small area in front of a residence. Ten men faced off for five minutes in that small area. There were approximately 150 shots fired in that short span of time. At the end of the gunfight, nine out of the ten participants were wounded or killed. That is a 90% causality rate. The two bank robbers were dead as well as FBI Special Agents Ben Grogan and Jerry Dove. Five other agents were wounded including FBI Special Agent Mireles who was shot twice. The five-minute gunfight between eight FBI agents and two murderous bank robbers changed law enforcement training, equipment and tactics throughout the U.S.FBI Special Agent Mireles is nationally and internationally recognized by law enforcement officers, journalists and hand gun enthusiasts as the last man standing in this historic gunfight. It is a monumental event that has been referred to as “Five Minutes that Changed the Bureau.”In October 1986 the International Association of Chiefs of Police awarded Mr. Mireles its National Police Officer of the Year Award for the Year 1986.  The US Department of Justice recognized Mr. Mireles as the Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and awarded him the Attorney Generals Award for Exceptional Heroism. He was awarded the FBI Medal of Valor.  The Texas Department of Criminal Justice honored Mr. Mireles by dedicating the Edmundo Mireles Criminal Justice Training Academy in his name. The academy is located in Beeville, Texas.Mr. Mireles retired in March of 2004. He spent four years working in Iraq as a Law Enforcement Professional and advisor to the Iraqi Police. One-year (in uniform) embedded with the 1st (MEF) Marines in Fallujah, the 10th Mountain Division in Baghdad and Basrah. Mr. Mireles also worked with the U.S. Department of State in Baghdad. He also trained Iraqi Police and Navy Corpsmen in infantry tactics. He earned a Naval Achievement Medal for his Combat Valor. Ryan has been with the Department of State for four years. He served on the Ambassador Susan Rice's Protective Detail for three years and currently serves as a General Services Specialist. In addition to his service Ryan Tate has always been an animal lover. After returning from one of his tours in Iraq he was deeply affected by a program he watched on TV that showed an African rhino still alive and suffering greatly with half its face hacked off solely for its horn. Tate, realizing that criminal poaching networks operate very much like the intricate terrorist networks in the Middle East, set out to repurpose his skills into an effort to stop the slaughter of these magnificent endangered animals. Many Post 9-11 U.S. veterans often have difficulty leveraging their combat skills in a conventional civilian vocation. Ryan realized these vets could benefit profoundly from the opportunity to utilize their valuable military skills in combat-related areas protecting endangered wildlife in Africa and saving lives. With Tate's military experience and savvy navigating the tumultuous world of “boots on the ground” conservation, he's able to speak directly to the unique skills that veterans can bring to anti-poaching efforts making a vital difference for endangered species and veterans that now have a renewed sense of purpose. “take negative criticism as just criticism or as just help. Don't look over all look past negativity it's happening for a reason and so it should be focused on but it shouldn't be taken to heart. You have got to grow a thick-skinned, you have got to be able to take a punch, you have got to be able to take several punches to the mouth over and over and over again. But if you don't get up you are not an entrepreneur – you are not. So be prepared to take a hit, grow thick skin, don't let it alter your direction, let it improve your direction and the efficiency and the speed that you are headed in. And just take everything as a learning lesson. It's all part of the journey. The Quicker that you can take criticism as a learning lesson instead of negativity the quicker that you are going to get your mission done and certainly the less years are going to be taken off of your life from the stress that comes with that negativity. So as negative as it is try to just take it in stride and build off of it.”…[Listen for More] Click Here for Show Notes To Listen or to Get the Show Notes go to https://wp.me/p6Tf4b-7cX

Green on blue attacks — attacks by Afghan soldiers on Coalition forces — are one of the many dangers our troops in the Middle East face every day. These deadly morale-sapping attacks are difficult to predict and leave lasting negative trust issues between the locals and American forces. As many as 91 incidents resulted in 148 Coalition troops killed and as many 186 wounded between 2008 and 2015. In this episode of the Mandatory Fun podcast, Marine infantry officer turned Army Green Beret Chase Millsap, and our Navy corpsman smartass Tim Kirkpatrick share their experiences working with the locals. GRP 68- We have a very special episode for you this week. Co-hosting is British Army Combat Medic Chantel Taylor. Our special guest is Johnny Walker. Johnny is an Iraqi who served with the Navy SEAL Teams in Iraq for a 6-year period during the height of the Iraq war. He worked as an interpreter going on over 1000 combat operations during his operational service. We discussed his upbringing in Mosul, how he ended up working with Naval Special Warfare. Johnny shared a few stories during his time with the SEALs. We discussed terrorism in the region and the proxy war that is currently being fought in Iraq and Syria. My good friends at the Global Surgical Medical Support Group who have been on the podcast previously have been doing incredible work providing top tier surgical support for communities battling against ISIS. From very reliable sources we now know that critically injured US personnel on an intelligence collection deployment in Iraq would not have survived if it wasn't for the swift intervention of GSMSG trauma surgeons. They were able to stop otherwise lethal hemorrhaging and other severe injuries by providing Role 4 level care right at the tip of the spear. They were also able to return the less critically injured US personnel to service right away after medically clearing them in the field. This is probably a first in history that a US-based non-profit humanitarian organization provided life-saving surgery in an austere environment that saved the lives of US service members and personnel. One way you can support them is by buying one of their few remaining T-shirts from their website at www.GSMSG.org/shop. If you insert promo code "IGRecon" you will get 20% off your order. So if you want to directly save US lives. If you want to support the only nonprofit group in history to be there at the tip of the spear saving American lives, then help the good guys at GSMSG out. Lastly, they are always recruiting SOF veterans, medics, nurses and physicians. Go check out their website and do something for our boys downrange. Below is an excerpt from the podcast: Johnny Walker: I went to the base and met with one of the officers. He says you have to be careful. I said why whats up? He says the terrorist killed an interpreter with the same name was me. What he didn't know was I was heading to the base and an assassination attempt was made on me by a foreign terrorist. I saw a guy with a long beard driving a car with a male in his 20's as the passenger. In our tradition this is unusual. We always respect the religious man by driving the car and taking care of him. So I assumed the worst case scenario was playing out. I was ahead of them in my car and I pressed the break and they drove passed me. The passenger pulled out a pistol and shot me. I stopped completely. I took my AK-47, shot and killed both of them. I started to yell Allah Akbar those guys work with the Americans they are interpreters. The Iraqi Police came and conducted an investigation with the results of those investigations were sent to the American base. So they thought I was killed. John: After you killed these two guys you made it seem like they were working for the Americans in order to get out of there right? Johnny Walker: Yes.
