First and foremost, Black lives matter. This has always been the case but it took us until now to post it here and we will do better. At Earbuds we work hard to ensure that our newsletter is filled with podcast recommendations that include episodes produced and hosted by women and POC. The newsletter is curated by a different person each week, who sends us their theme and 5 podcast episode links. If we find that the list contains all white men, we reply asking for a more diverse selection. Sometimes, we fall short. Sometimes curators don't reply and we give up. We won't do that anymore. We’re holding ourselves accountable and you can, too. As a white woman, I am reading, listening, and donating to funds and organizations that center and support black lives and work to fight racism. And I'm learning a lot. I will continue to do so. It's on all of us to see to it that real change comes from this movement. -Arielle NissenblattWelcome to episode 36. It covers the week of June 8 - 12, 2020.This week’s theme is: *Amplifying Black Voices.*More on this podcast:Each week on this podcast, we’ll share the information that's within the newsletter put out by EarBuds Podcast Collective. EBPC is a listening movement. We send a weekly email with a theme and 5 podcast episodes on that theme, and each week is curated by a different person. Anyone can curate a list -- just reach out!We partner with Inside Podcasting to bring you the week’s top podcast news stories. Written by Skye Pillsbury, Inside Podcasting is a thrice weekly email newsletter that covers the podcast world. In honor of George Floyd, and the countless other Black men and women who’ve been killed by police brutality and in police custody, here are this week’s podcast episodes on the theme of “Amplifying Black Voices.*Scam Goddess The Welfare Queen (w/ Ayo Edebiri)72 minutes This is one of the funniest podcasts out there. In each episode, Laci Moseley, AKA, Scam Goddess has a comedian guest on the show to go through the scam of the week. They share their thoughts and jokes. This guest on this episode is Ayo Edebiri, an LA-based comedian. The Only One in the Room Damona Hoffman Is The Only One Who Thought She Was Undatable61 minutes Host Laura Cathcart Robbins is a writer who went to a writer's conference a few years back and discovered that out of 600 attendees, she was the only Black woman. Her podcast discusses peoples' "only one" stories. In this episode, she interviews Damona Hoffman, a dating coach and relationship expert. Code Switch A Decade Of Watching Black People Die23 minutes Code Switch is always brilliant. This episode, though, is required listening for all white folks. It's Been a Minute with Sam Sanders Interview: Yvonne Orji on 'Insecure'27 minutes Sam Sanders is my favorite podcast interviewer. This is a twice-weekly show. On Tuesdays, Sam interviews an author, artist, or anyone who's got something interesting going on. On Fridays, he hosts a roundtable discussion featuring newsfolk, as they discuss current events. In this episode, Sam interviews Yvonne Orji, who plays Molly on Insecure. 1619 THE ENTIRE SERIES 1619 is an incredibly powerful series produced by Nikole Hannah-Jones of the New York Times. Here's the description: In August of 1619, a ship carrying more than 20 enslaved Africans arrived in the English colony of Virginia. America was not yet America, but this was the moment it began. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the 250 years of slavery that followed. All of the Star Trek series have shown some sort of interaction between the members of its crew on screen in varying ways. The Next Generation had poker, Deep Space Nine had Vic's lounge, Voyager had Sandrine's and the resort program, and Enterprise had movie night. Since the invention of home video releases of films, many fans of movies have participated in an event know as "Movie Night!" People gather together in a group, watch a movie, and then discuss the film in a casual conversation. Sometimes they even go out for a slice of pie while they discuss.  In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala and Patrick Devlin have one last discussion for the Movie Night series of episodes with Spaceballs. I've been traveling a LOT in the past month. I have attended 3 live events during that time. So the focus of today's show is going to be on "why attend live events"?  Exactly what are the benefits? The main benefits are that they help you grow as a person, and they definitely help your business grow.   It's Been a Lot of Travel but So Worth It! I started out with a trip to Chicago for a 3 day real estate conference called "Building an Empire" put on by Andrew Holmes and the Chicago REIA. This is an event that I truly believe has the power to change people's lives.  I also had the opportunity to be one of the speakers on a panel so it was a lot of fun. I was home for 6 whole days when I hopped on a plane and headed to Orlando for Podfest. At this event, I was asked to be on a real estate investor's panel so I was both a speaker and an attendee (mostly an attendee). If you even thinking about doing a podcast of your own, I highly recommend you check out Podfest next year.  It's a great event. Besides, who doesn't like Orlando at first of March? Now, I'm a podcaster as you know. However, attending a conference with 1000 podcast minded people was just amazing. I saw old friends from last year, and I made new friends this year. After being home just one full day, I hopped on a plane to head back to Chicago to speak at two different events about probate investing and marketing and branding. (I'm actually still here in Chicago recording this show).  The Big Question: Why Should You Attend Live Events? Listen in and discover all the reasons why you should attend at least one live event this year.  Just getting out of the office and away from your normal routine will leave you energized and excited about your business again.  Be sure to get your freebie my "Probate Investing Roadmap".  You can get that here: Probate Investing Roadmap Also, be sure to stop by the Louisville Gals Real Estate Blog where you'll find more great content. Full Show Notes at: https://www.pencilkings.com/podcast-home/ When Darren Yeow created the Nomad Art Satchel a few years ago, he wanted to create a super-useful tool for artists with one aim in mind - to encourage creativity and help artists everywhere capture their ideas. Now, after the huge success of this product on Kickstarter, he's back with a brand new brand and a product which takes the design of the Nomad to an exciting new level for artists - the Etchr Lab Multi-purpose Satchel. In this interview, you'll hear about the fascinating design process behind this new product, and how Darren and Simon invited feedback from working artists to create something which truly met their needs. You'll learn why collaboration is key, and why the best people to work with might be easier to reach than you think. And, if you've ever wanted to develop and launch your own product (but don't know where to start), you'll get some invaluable insights on doing this from listening to Darren and Simon's experiences. Interview Chapters [00:00-06:49] Introduction and Overview Your host, Mitch Bowler, introduces today's guests, Darren Yeow, creator of the Nomad satchel, and his business partner, finance expert Simon Frisby. In this chapter, you'll hear why they decided to take the revolutionary design aspects of the Nomad and evolve these into an exciting new product which is set to become an indispensable tool for all artists. [07:52-14:45] Why did Darren Decide to Collaborate on This New Product? When Darren launched the Nomad Art Satchel a few years ago, he was working as a one-man band looking after everything from marketing to raising financial backing for his product via Kickstarter. Now, he's teamed up with Simon and other experts to form a new company, Etchr Lab, which promises to deliver a wide range of cutting-edge products into the lives of artists. So why did he decide to work with others on this new project...and how has this led to a new, improved product? [10:22-12:10] How Can You go About Launching Your Own Great Idea? Got a great idea of your own...but don't know how to get started on developing this into a successful product? In this chapter, you'll hear about the benefits of networking with others in your niche...and why listening carefully to the advice of others can ultimately help you create the most effective business plan and product. [12:11-17:33] What Should You Look For in Potential Collaborators? Choosing people to collaborate with can sometimes be tricky. After all, you've got to be sure they share your passion and vision for your ideas. In this chapter, you'll hear about how Darren and Simon met, and why a series of shopping trips helped them decide that collaborating was a very good idea! [17:34-23:41] It's Been 3 Years Since the Nomad Satchel Was Launched. What's Been Happening Since? Darren launched his Nomad art satchel three years ago. So what's he been up to in the meantime...and why did he decide that now was the right time to launch a new product? In this chapter, you'll also learn about the importance of marketing your product, and how to take full advantage of tools such as social media to help promote your big idea and generate a buzz around it. [23:42-24:42] What Happened When Darren Devoted All His Time to His Product? Like many artists and creators, Darren had to take on freelance work in the beginning to pay the bills while he developed his new idea. But what happened when he was able to devote all his time and energy to this one project? [24:43-30:44] How Can You Work Effectively With Other People? The success of a collaborative project often revolves around your relationship with the other members of your team. But how do you learn to hand over tasks to others and listen to their input? In this chapter, you'll get some invaluable insights into teamwork, and why learning how to listen can be one of the most important factors behind success. [30:45-39:00] How do You Find Business Contacts as well as Creative Contacts? As artists, most of us have got creative friends who we can work with and bounce ideas off of. But how do you find the business-minded people to help turn your dreams into reality? In this chapter, you'll learn about networking...and why personal recommendations can often be much more effective than searching for potential contacts online. [39:01-42:15] Where to Find Darren and Etchr Lab Online Want to find out more about Etchr Lab and their exciting new products for artists? You'll find everything you need in this chapter, including some great advice on the realities of developing a product based on Darren's real-life experiences. [42:16-44:37] Conclusion Mitch wraps up today's interview and Darren lets you know how to get behind his new product launch on Kickstarter and take advantage of some great early-bird deals.
