Reflectors of God's LightProbably the most natural thing for us to do after working throughan embarrassing failure and experiencing forgiveness is to try to forgetthat the event ever happened. Memories of failure can be painful. What does David want to do with his painful experience? Read Psalm51:13–19.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________When a bowl or a precious vase falls and breaks into pieces, we normallysigh and throw the useless broken pieces away. In Japan there is a traditionalart called kintsugi, which specializes in re-creating broken pottery. A pre-cious metal, such as liquid gold or silver, is used to glue the broken piecestogether and to turn the broken item into something of beauty and value.Every time God forgives our transgressions and re-creates us again, something changes. God's precious forgiveness glues our brokennesstogether, and the visible breaks can draw attention to His grace. Wecan become God's loudspeakers. “My tongue shall sing aloud of Yourrighteousness” (Ps. 51:14, NKJV). We don't attempt to self-repair orauto-improve (even incrementally). Our broken spirits, our contritehearts, are enough praise for God—and they are beams of light that theworld can see surrounding us. Our experience of being forgiven attractsothers who are searching for forgiveness. What relationship is there between Psalm 51 and 1 John 1:9?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________First John 1:9 is a short summary of Psalm 51. As David knows that“a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise”(Ps. 51:17, NKJV), John assures us that “if we confess our sins, He isfaithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrigh-teousness” (1 John 1:9, NKJV). We can take God at His word.Again, David could not repair the tremendous damage that he haddone through his acts and example to his family. He suffered the conse-quences of his decisions and actions. And yet, David knew that he hadbeen forgiven. He knew that he needed to trust by faith that one day thetrue Lamb of God would come and stand in his place. How can you learn right now to apply the promises of 1 John 1:9to your own life? How should you feel after you do so and knowthat the promise is for you too?

Stop the Utility Profit Grab

The Energy Show

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 7, 2021 17:52

Copyright 2021 The Energy Show, Barry Cinnamon 6/30/21 News Story: “PG&E just asked regulators for a $3.6b rate hike to reduce fires from their own power lines” Another “in your face” profit grab from a utility that blames rooftop solar for high electric rates. This rate increase works out to $36 per month for every homeowner in California! Do they think we're stupid? The biggest threat to rooftop solar and storage is not political. It's not tariffs. Or product shortages. The biggest threat is from aggressive lobbying (which we pay via our electric bills) and outright lies from monopoly utilities. It's pretty simple: utilities are trying to prevent businesses and homeowners from installing their own solar and battery systems so they maximize their profits. They lie about rooftop solar and storage. Adding insult to injury, they are also trying to increase fees for customers who already have these systems. It's an outright, blatant, anti-competitive profit grab that will harm all current and future solar + storage customers — while at the same time increasing monopoly utility profits. And our regulators have historically gone along with these profit grabs. Utilities invented their Big Lie to convince the public that they are the good guys, only trying to protect ratepayers. BS. Did your electric rates go up because of rooftop solar? No — they went up because of high transmission costs and ridiculous utility executive salaries. Are our wildfires caused by rooftop solar? No — the deadliest fires have been caused by inadequate transmission line maintenance. Will paying utilities more money solve your home and business blackout problems any time soon? No — the fastest and cheapest way for you to get reliable power is with your own backup system. Check out this short video for a more realistic perspective: We Can't Trust Them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9TVsgUvtlI It is inconceivable to me that the California Public Utilities commission is considering another economic shift from homeowners, schools and businesses to a twice-bankrupt and criminal utility (PG&E) who already has a guaranteed 10% rate of return, who just raised electric rates by 11% this year — and is now asking for another $3.6 billion rate increase. Specifically, California's three monopoly utilities want to: * Add monthly fixed charges to solar customer bills, * Reduce solar reimbursement rates, * Eliminate annual net metering, and * Change net metering grandfathering for existing solar customers. The only way to stop this utility profit grab is for homeowners and businesses to call out this Big LieL * Tell Governor Newsom that increasing solar costs is absolutely the wrong way to solving our electricity problems. * Tell the California Public Utilities Commission that paying PG&E even more money is unfair to all ratepayers. * Tell them both that we need more local solar and storage, not more expensive long-distance transmission lines that cause wildfires and perpetually high maintenance costs. Take action now: * Contact the Solar Rights Alliance at https://solarrights.org * Contact the California Solar and Storage Association at https://calssa.org For more about this Utility Lie, please listen up to this week's Energy Show https://cinnamon.energy/the-energy-show/. We'll go through the specific changes monopoly utilities want, the falsehoods behind their Big Lie, and steps we all need to take before the utility profit grab goes into effect.

Subscribe to the newest show on the Climactic Collective from https://www.climactic.fm/show/regenonomics-downunder-podcast/ Why Regenomics Downunder? RE - because the best solutions are REgional GEN - because the best solutions  reGENerate (not just reduce harm) OMICS - because the best solutions create better economies (especially regional) Down Under - because our focus is our region - Australia and New Zealand - with stories from across the Pacific, through the “global south” and around the world. We have the solutions - and they're spreading This episode explores what the human race already knows about how to reverse global warming – starting with the commercial, scaling solutions modelled and ranked by the independent not-for-profit Project Drawdown in 2017 (and updated in 2020) Project Drawdown's findings include: We CAN reverse global warming – even if we just use the quantifiable, multi-benefit commercial solutions that WE ALREADY HAVE and are already scaling. NONE of the 80 solutions require further policy change from national governments (while it would help, all the solutions ARE  commercial and  ARE scaling) 79 of the solutions are multi-benefit solutions that make the world BETTER (the only harmful solution of significance was nuclear). The 80 solutions are WHOLE-OF-ECONOMY solutions that go way beyond electriciy generation and transport to include food, agriculture, construction, education, health and materials. The high-potential new solutions that they didn't have numbers for are likely to be every bit as powerful and even more regenerative than what we have now. The list of 80 commercial, quantified Drawdown solutions can a bit overwhelming, and each one only gets 2 pages of explanation.  So in this episode we dive in to a couple and see how they're happening in Australia, with examples from two past Climactic episodes. Tropical forest regeneration Insulation Forest regeneration ranked #5 and #12 on the original Drawdown top 80.   And here's an example of what a small group of concerned Australian researchers created, told by Jess Panegyres from The Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network Insulation ranked #21 on the original Drawdown list. We explore the action that one Perth insulation installer began back while Drawdown was still doing their modelling. Drawdown only modelled solutions where they could find a robust, peer-reviewed data sets – so there are many, many more powerful, existing solutions that aren't  that well-measured yet – from vortex water processing to cellulose-based building materials.   So it's more useful to think of Drawdown as a guide book of highlights rather than a definitive encyclopedia. We live in a world where most of the mainstream media coverage on climate action is focused on either: high-level action where big government and big business do big things; OR low-level actions about consumers using less or spending more on expensive alternatives. That's barely beginning of the story.  Those two themes like the pastry layers on a vanilla slice – necessary, but not the main event.  There's actually a wealth of accessible action when you get out and start looking for problems that need solving and the opportunities they create. Solving the challenges we face has created a quiet design revolution –  the development of systems and processes that regenerate communities and ecosystems.   It's a whole lot easier to see the best, multi-benefit solutions when you understand the straightforward principles regenerative design.   Re-gen-omics Down Under explores the solutions happening and the thinking behind them – so if you're interested in solutions, learn to find your action opportunities and listen to your gut.  LINKS Paul Hawken, founder of Project Drawdown, speaking on Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOTLtrt6OIE Key pages from Project Drawdown's website (where their open-source finding are published): Their current list of evidence-based solutions https://drawdown.org/solutions Their downloadable updates https://drawdown.org/drawdown-review The Climactic Live episode BZE - Fight for Planet A Panel for the forest regeneration story  https://www.climactic.fm/show/climactic/climactic-live-bze-fight-for-planet-a-panel/ The full Clean State podcast on The Insulation Revolution with Stephen Kinghttps://www.climactic.fm/show/clean-state/the-insulation-revolution-the-simple-social-enterprise-model-inspiring-a-state-with-stephen-king/  CREDITS Original music and audio editing by Ian Hopkinson, Human Hacker and serial digital entrepreneur. Anne thinks the plot leaves too much unexplained..too many unanswered questions! Ally thinks it's easy to accept the unexplained and be moved by the tense storyline. We CAN agree on a few things including Sarah Paulson deserved more screen time, Trevante Rhodes=yes, and of course Sandra Bullock's acting (blindfolded?!) was amazing. So what does that mean for the ratings?? Tune in to find out how we ranked Bird Box against every other Sandy B movie!Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review!
