There's so much to say. The same things keep being said. Loops and recycled and time after time and again and again. There's absolutely nothing left to say. All of these moments, periods, and times in this existence seem so new at the present but history shows none of it is new and the only thing known of the future is we will ultimately repeat the past. Hilarious we are we humans. So importantly unimportant. Even in this useless written rhetoric some times out of nowhere for no apparent reason an old new emerges and what was will never be again and what will be is something no one can predict and for the most part understand until quite a bit of time later. 88 serves this as fact and very true. How did Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Grif, Terminator X and the Bomb Squad all come together to make the rap album that inspired the rest. We talk samples, rapping about not doing drugs and Aaron going to an exotic animal show. Let the Record Show – the crate-dug interview series in which musicians, DJs, rappers, and producers discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl – continues with its “Socially Distant Series” of video-conference episodes. Episode 49 features indie-rap-sensation-turned-funky-drummer J-Zone. With the release of the fifth Du-Rites album A Funky Bad Time coming on November 13th, J-Zone joins hosts Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace to dig through some of his favorite tracks. Early 90s hip-hop deep cuts from Ice Cube, Terminator X, Schoolly D and Tim Dog show the clear influence seen in J’s early rap solo recordings on Old Maid Entertainment, while a selection of refined rare grooves from Kool & The Gang, Slave, and Jack DeJohnette exemplify his love for drumming as a part of The Du-Rites. In each case, oddball pressings and vinyl rarities are showcased for each song. J-Zone’s appearance on Let the Record Show marks the 49th episode in the series and the fourteenth episode of Season 4. Guests on previous episodes this season have included Cut Copy, Blu & Exile, Sofi Tukker, The Free Nationals, R.A. The Rugged Man, RJD2, Little Brother, Cam O’bi, Dudley Perkins, YehMe2, Rittz, SNAILS and Malik.

In this conversation Sean Reid and I talk about Chuck D from Public Enemy. As you will hear in this audio clip I had no idea that Public Enemy was still making new music and when Sean said that they still drop albums I thought he was lying or exaggerating. This conversation was powerful for me thanks to Sean. I doubt highly that I will start listening to a lot of Chuck D however it showed me that just because we don't hear or see someone in the limelight doesn't mean that they are not still working and creating. Sean gives a lot of his love for education and consciousness to Chuck D's lyrics. I knew that Sean was a true fan of Hip hop when i asked him who was Public Enemy's DJ and he answered it accurately. If you know who Terminator X is and you ever visit Raleigh, North Carolina make sure you stop by Hero's Pub in Raleigh, North Carolina. DJ Terminator X is always on the tables. Sean shares a classic story about how he met Terminator X and how Terminator X talked to him, which was rare because Terminator X is known for never talking. In summary, I Sat down and had a dope conversation with DJ/Comedian/Hustler Sean Reid and had a blast. Few awkward moments and lots of laughs. In this part of our conversation Sean gives his take on the Camron versus Male Rap Beef. Sean reveals to me how he is directly related to the harlem legendary rapper Camron. And of course I corner Sean into picking a side of who won the rap battle. Then we go onto discuss all the other greatest rap battles of all time. In our previous clip Sean and I briefly talk about sexual harassment in the workplace for both men and women. Mainly Matt Lauer, Russell Simmons, and Reality TV star Peter Gunz. After that, our conversation turned into a conversation about if we can separate the art from the artist. Also discussed: The Dead Lands (2014), Game of Thrones: Season 7 - NO SPOILERS (2017), The Defenders (2017), The Interview (2014), Buried (2010). Hey there, Nic, Tys and Videotape listeners!! This week, with the news breaking of Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron returning to the Terminator franchise, (this news actually broke AFTER we recorded... we're kinda psychic apparently) we figured there was no better time to go back to the dark days of the early 'naughties and take another look at TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES!!! Is it better than everyone remembers??? Probably not, but it surely can't be worse! (Spoiler.... it might be worse.) Why does the Terminator-X have such inconsistent abilities? How did they get away with 3/4 of this movie taking place inside a crappy truck or camper van? WHO'S WORKING THE PEDALS?!?!? As always we tackle the important questions here.   PLUS! We're starting to get into the real prestige end-of-year stuff in Talkin' Trailers, Tys looks at a unique action film featuring a culture that's totally under-represented in movies in What Did You Watch This Week?, and Nic gets to talk about his man-crush in Crossing The Streams! As always here are the ways to get in touch with us if you would like to suggest a film for us to talk about, or to ask a question to be featured in our MAILBAG segment: Facebook - www.facebook.com/nictysvideotape Twitter - @nictysvideotape Email - nictysandvideotape@gmail.com and don't forget to RATE/REVIEW us on iTunes so we can get the word out and keep building this ace community of movie lovers all over the world!!! You can also subscribe to Nic, Tys and Videotape on YouTube by visiting the following link (if you're into that kind of thing):  NOW UPDATED WEEKLY!! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaus3hn3D8WfTxeOC_07zZA Thanks as always to Jac D for our artwork and Zac for our rockin' theme music. NEXT WEEK!!! It's our last episode before we hit our October Spook-isodes, and what a doozy!! It's the most fun you can have with a high school graduation party (besides... you know... actually being at one). We're talking CANT HARDLY WAIT, and I have a feeling this episode is going to be more crazy than our little podcast can handle.
