Food has become so commercialized that many people feel guilty about eating some food. This is quite a miserable way to live, and June Jo Lee offers a solution: adopting the so-called ethnographic diet. In this conversation with Corinna Bellizzi, she explores her groundbreaking ethnographic research about the benefits of eating the food you love, not the food forced upon you by society. June discusses how to teach the younger generation to eat better and give more importance to eating healthily. She also explains how to cook more without following a rigid recipe but instead relying on the natural flavor at your fingertips.
Exploring the rich meaning behind what we choose to eat, food ethnographer June Jo Lee unpacks how our "modern hungers" — or our deepest desires and need for connection — inform every bite. She decodes what Gen Z's palate says about the present moment and the shape of the future.

In this conversation, Phil and Jo Lee explore the concept of creative confidence, its roots in drama education, and the importance of arts in fostering self-worth and community. Jo shares her journey from being a drama teacher to advocating for the arts, discussing the transformative power of drama in education and the challenges faced in integrating arts into school curriculums. They delve into the significance of experiential learning, the fight for recognition of the arts, and the personal struggles with confidence and imposter syndrome. The discussion emphasizes the need for community support and the journey of self-discovery in building confidence and articulating one's skills. Creative confidence is essential for personal and professional growth. Drama serves as a powerful tool for building confidence. The arts are often undervalued in education despite their benefits. Experiential learning enhances engagement and skill acquisition. Transformative moments in drama can lead to significant personal development. The fight for drama in schools continues amidst standardized testing pressures. Confidence is not synonymous with extroversion; quiet confidence is equally valid. Community support plays a crucial role in enhancing self-worth. Building in success can help individuals recognize their strengths. Self-reflection is key to overcoming imposter syndrome and finding one's voice. This series forms part of the 10-year celebrations for The Art of Work, a consultancy that specialises in helping organisations and individuals navigate the changing world of work. The boys have been spending the last 120 hours in captivity with each other, and surprisingly no one has been murdered... yet. This week the boys recap the wobbling dixie details of Cory's trip to NYC. But first: it's always something, and in this case, Cory's flight to NY certainly didn't happen without incident. THEN: from Outback to outhouse, Kisos and Cory talk about meeting up with some fellow musicians (the likes of Michael Love Michael, Peter Ngqibs, Jo Lee, Bryce Quartz and Homobyte!), playing minigolf (spoiler alert: Cory did better this time), Phantom of the Opera AND the infamous (lower) Lips restaurant! Jo is a first-time mama to her 4 month old son. She suffered from post-natal depression after having an emergency c-section and having feelings of disconnect from her son. Her depression worsened and she was taken to hospital and admitted into a unit for mums and their bubs. Jo talks about how much of those few months felt like an out-of-body experience and how she felt emotions she'd never felt before. She talks about how her faith in God was shaken and how difficult it was to see His goodness in the fog. And how it took her church community who rallied around her and her husband to show her God's kindness. This is an episode for everyone- not just mums! If you know of someone who is a new mum, reach out to her, cook her a meal, stand with her in prayer. It really does take a village to raise a child, but it takes a village to support the parents, too! And if you have experienced a postpartum mental illness, you are seen and you are loved. Take it from someone who's been there in the trenches too.

Michael Roberson discusses the ballroom community -- which drew mainstream notice courtesy of Madonna's 1990 "Vogue" video and Jennie Livingston's 1991 documentary Paris Is Burning -- and its ability to unify traditionally excluded individuals. These self-made families forge bonds that span a lifetime and has developed into a global subculture. He believes that the family dynamics created within ballroom culture can teach the rest of us how to develop healthy communities. Michael Roberson is an adjunct professor at the New School and Union Theological Seminary and a senior scholar for the Center for Race, Religion and Economic Democracy. You, dear listener, might have wavy, curly, coily, or kinky hair. TODAY, we're talking about the obsession with our hair. Not our own obsession with our hair, #TeamNatural. Rather, the obsession non-POC seem to have with touching our hair. You probably had a variation of this conversation at least once in your life: “I just love your hair! It’s so beautiful. Can I touch it?” A lot of the time, you’re lucky if they ask. Why is it, for many POC, our hair becomes a reason to establish personal boundaries with others? Beyond hair, we talk about expectations to conform to a particular professional (Read: White) image. Natural hairstyles like locs or afros are banned in the workplaces. Women might be "expected" to wear heels. You might dress in a manner that's "too flamboyant". How do you unpack that in order to live more authentically? Ashley Nesby is back for an encore performance. She joins the Fab Four in to create the Thriving Five. Leaning in (and leaning over) to 2020, you might be examining your relationships and grappling with people who are toxic in your life. The blurring edges between social media and real life don't make that a walk in the park. As the conversation about "cancel culture" heats up, is it okay to cut those people from your life? The Core Four dive pretty deep talking about their own experiences in dealing with toxic people. Sometimes, that's looked like letting go of people associated with toxic memories. Family members, partners, friends-with-benefits, and acquaintances can all be toxic influences in your life. They're not easy to deal with in an ongoing basis. Letting go of those people can be just as difficult. What if you are the person who needs to be dealt with? Relationships are hard. This week the QPOC crew discusses names, dead names, and the role social media plays in either affirming individuals who do not go by the names on their government documents or how those social media giants act as hurdles to people who have moved on from that chapter of their life. On this episode we talk about the Big C and talk with two fierce warriors who are fighting an awesome fight against it, Gay-Louise Aitken and Jo Lee. Fighting Breast Cancer and Lymphoma respectively, these two brave and wonderful women tell us of their journey's, their experience of chemotherapy, of Maggies, coping techniques, and coming out the other side. If you're looking for inspiration on reasons not to sweat the small stuff, embrace life and the importance of sisterhood, then you'll want to tune in to this very powerful episode. Huge thanks to Jo & Gay for sharing so openly.https://www.maggiescentres.org/If you have any questions or feedback please email us at info@weareegg.co.uk, and we’d love you to follow us on Instagram: @eggcommunityWebsite: https://eggedinburgh.com/https://eggglasgow.com/
Acclimatizing to workplace culture can already be a tricky thing to navigate. That's especially true in corporate culture. The whole crew attended an LGBTQIA+ event that Zach put together. The panel brought folks together sharing different experiences as far as their ability to self express at work. This had us thinking about what it's like being QTPOC at corporate gigs. "Tone it down." "Everything doesn't have to be about sexuality." Binarist dress codes. These are just a few of the ways that we can be limited in the workplace. Where do these rules and microaggressions come from? What's possible when we can stop worrying about whether that nail polish is appropriate for work? What can happen when we can truly WERQ the workplace? GROW THE COMMUNITY If you believe in the work we are doing, invest in our success, become a Patron on Patreon! Thank you to all our Patrons. It's the final week of scary pumpkin season! We get into a discussion about scary movies and all things spooky. The crew has lots to share on self-care this week. Jo Lee's perspectives are changing, Zach is pulling through, Carlos drops a word, and Johnathan starts new routines. The whole QPOC gang wishes you a fabulous and safe Halloween! Pull some tricks. As Halloween month continues, the crew is ready to explore their freaky sides. Sex can be a scary conversation for some, especially for queer and trans people of color. There can be shame attached to our experiences. Sometimes, we don't have all the information. Messaging we receive as young people has consequences. In the age of internet hookups, the unknown can put our physical safety at risk. There's a LOT to unpack. So... Let's talk about sex baby! Spooky Season continues as we delve into the seasonal traditions of just some of our QPOC ancestral worship. The spread of Christianity through colonization has reshaped spiritual culture for many people of color. In many cases, especially for African Americans, it's meant the outright erasure and rejection of those traditions. This week, the Credibility Crew tackle the topic of "safe space". Specifically, we discuss the lack of virtual and tangible spaces for nonbinary People of Color. Externally, it's easy to find language about "brave space", but where can nonbinary people turn to address their fears and concerns? Zach seems tongue-tied. Johnathan's getting the casting couch ready. Jojo is movin' and groovin'. Carlos whips the cointadas in shape. Ghosts? Gargoyles? Witch books!? October means everyone’s favorite spooky time of year. Halloween is coming which got us to thinking about ghost stories. The gang shares their experiences getting ghosted (and being the ghost). We also talk about ghosting on platonic friends. What are your ghost stories? Johnathan feels better, #ThisKetoLife gives Zach nightmares, Jo Lee talks ADHD, and Carlos is high yellow. From the El Paso-based indie publisher, Cinco Puntos Press. Writers talk with each other about their books. This episodes features Sonia Patel, author of BLOODY SEOUL, chatting with Jacqueline Briggs Martin and June Jo Lee, co-authors of CHEF ROY CHOI AND THE STREET FOOD REMIX from Readers To Eaters. They had a wonderful conversation about the connection and comfort food can bring us, the concept of sohn maash in Korean culture, why we should make the world bigger instead of trying to fit in, and many more great things!
Gold Fever Radio talks about Gold Prospecting, Metal Detecting, Relic Hunting and yes we even get into Politics!
Pride weekend brought the party and the bullshit, y'all. This episode is a little longer than I would normally like, but a theydie had some THOUGHTS. PrideFest and the march were incredible experiences. I'm disappointed in how much of what was going on behind the scenes was mismanaged and how that affects us as a community. The whole experience was alarmingly saturated with corporate visibility and NYC Pride needs to figure out how to get back to its roots. On June 28, I had the very special privilege of being fed by and hearing the first hand account from Martin Boyce, one of the Stonewall vets. A very special thank you to Timorell and Steady Mess for a beautiful evening at PrideTable. I won't ever, ever forget it. As incredible as World Pride and Stonewall 50 weekend was, it's important to remember there's still work to do. On Saturday, the cops forced Queen Amor (a queer person of color) out of Washington Square Park during the celebrations following the Dyke March. On Thursday night, a Black trans woman demanded to be heard to speak about the murders of Black trans women in America. The patrons jeered and threatened to call the cops on her. Among the souls who stood up for her were Leada Stray, who shared her account of what unfolded. Go to jolee.link/week7 to watch the video. In the next 11 months until Pride 2020, I'm sending you love, joy, and more Pride. Stay wonderful, Jo Lee

My name is JO! "J" to the "O" Lee. Please, call me Jo Lee. I'm a non-binary recording artist, graphic designer, and professional doer of the most. I'm born, raised and living in Brooklyn. Welcome to my new "week-lee" podcast that's more like a blog. I needed to create a space for myself away from the music to self-express and get things on my mind out in the open. A simple audio podcast seemed like the best possible idea. It's tough finding fellow non-binary POC to look up to, so I hope that talking about my experiences each week will help my queer, trans, and non-binary siblings out there. You're valued and appreciated. We're flying without Carlos and Zach this week, but Johnathan and Jojo bring the dynamics and the duo. Johnathan talk about win-wins and Jo Lee makes the face melt. We cover a lot in this episode. Kingdom Hearts 3 is being released, new works by POC to celebrate, Kamala Harris is running for POTUS, and you're never too young to wear MAGA hats. We also breakdown a discussion between Mo'Nique and Whoopi Goldberg. As QPOC, do we have a responsibility to pave the way for those coming behind us? Chime in with your thoughts on social media! 2019 is off to a blazing start and leaving us gagged. You know we had to talk about the Commander in McChief serving McDonald's at the White House. (Does that make it the White Castle?) Johnathan makes off like a bandit, Jo Lee has bestie time, Carlos is a skinny legend with a tan, and Zach knows a seven word chorus. Our very own, United States Congress wins Bloop of the Week.
